The faunus smiled as she let her lips run along the woman's neck, her ears twitching at the moans from the woman under her. She brought her face above hers, their foreheads touching, silver staring into amber… burning into each other.
Blake let out a soft groan letting her hand rest on her face, giving her best attempt to hide from the sun. With the ever growing headache and sun in her eyes she felt like her head was going to explode.
She dug her palms into her eyes hoping that the pain that throbbed in her head would cease. After a few moments of trying to make it go away she sighed giving up letting her arm rest on her forehead, slowly she opened her eyes before blinking a few times hoping to adjust to the morning light. Was it morning?
She huffed, reaching her hand behind her head, patting under her pillow for a few moments behind her head. After a few attempts, some failing, she finally managed to grab her scroll. A few taps later she unlocked it looking at the time.
9:45
'Thank the dust it's Saturday.' She thought resting her arm back on her forehead before closing her eyes. A few moments went by before she yawned, she knew herself even on the weekend once she woke up the first time she wouldn't be able to fall back asleep. She got up slowly situating herself with her surroundings, the first thing she noticed was how cold the room was making her frown.
Blinking a few times she looked down confused for a moment, a blush spread across her face as she gripped the blanket pulling it up to her body. She was naked, naked as the day she was born.
She sat there for a moment trying to process how exactly she got to be here. Just then she remembered the piercing headache that throbbed in her head making her groan. What happened last night for her to get to this point?
It was just a regular Friday?
"I trust you.'
She flinched resting her forehead into her hands pulling her knees closer to her chest.
The door to the dorm opened causing her to scramble for the blanket making sure it was covering everything. She watched as Ruby walked into the dorm keeping her eyes down clearly thinking about something, only when she looked up, silver meeting amber did she stop.
"Blake! You're awake." The redhead said, giving a nervous laugh as she walked over to Blake's desk, setting it down. The faunus noticed that the younger woman kept her eyes away as she turned back around rubbing her neck. "I'm going to go…to the bathroom… if you need anything." She said quickly, before Blake could say anything to her the redhead vanished in a puff of roses, the door closing soon after.
For a few moments she stared at the door before her eyes went over to the mug on her desk, just then did she notice a few pills set right next to it. With this she quickly got up, well as quickly as her head could manage and got herself dressed.
As she did she tried to replay how she got herself into this situation… and why Ruby was acting the way she was. At the thought of the redhead she felt her stomach drop making her sigh. It wasn't normal, Ruby was the one that brightened the team, she was energetic and carefree.
She walked over to her desk picking up the pills, tossing them back before taking a small hesitant sip from the tea. She was surprised to see that the tea was just the right temperature, not enough to scald her tongue.
The door opened behind her as Ruby hesitantly peeked her head out with a hand over her eyes making Blake laugh a little. "I'm decent Ruby."
"I… made you tea… and medicine." Ruby mumbled passing by the faunus going to sit on Weiss' bed.
"I saw, thank you Ruby." Blake said, letting her hands rest on the back of her chair, her ears twitching lightly, a frown forming on her face.
The two stayed quiet neither one wanting to break the silence in the room, but Blake knew she had to say something to break it. But what?
She glanced over her shoulder looking over at the redhead, noticing the woman flinched slightly with her head down. As she looked up and down Ruby she couldn't help but… feel the overwhelming feeling of being nervous? She's been nervous before in her life, when she left the White Fang, getting admitted to Beacon… when her team found out about her being a faunus, even when she thought about said redhead in front of her and her feelings towards the leader… but something about this was different?
She sighed running a hand through her hair, she picked up the mug before walking over to her bed, she sat down taking another sip from the cup before looking over at the redhead. She cleared her throat wrapping her hands around the mug as she looked around the room before scratching her cheek.
"So…Ruby… last night?" Another flinch came from her making her frown, she watched as the redhead fiddled her thumbs keeping her face down, was Ruby blushing? Something deep in her stomach just wanted her to walk across and pull her into a hug, but she stopped herself with another sigh. Why all of a sudden was she feeling like this?
"I…I think we slept together?" The redhead blurted out, making Blake pause as she stared at Ruby. "Like… had sex sleep together. Not just in the same bed." Ruby muttered barely, thankfully because of Blake's hearing however she heard the redhead clearly.
Oh dust.
The faunus took a deep breath leaning forward resting her elbows on her knees as she cupped her mouth with her free hand. A million thoughts went through her mind as she stared at the ground.
It would explain why she woke up naked, but still how did it come to be? Her eyes went wide as she looked back up to the redhead, their eyes meeting. "I didn't force you into anything did I? Oh my dust I'm sorry if I did-"
"No no! You didn't." Ruby said, holding out her hands in front of her, shaking them as she shook her head. "I guess like you… I don't remember much? I woke up this morning… only to find myself naked… next to you." She paused holding the back up her hand to her face tearing her eyes awake from Blake. "All I remember was Nora inviting us over to team JNPR's dorm… since Yang and Weiss were out on that mission… I think Nora spiked the drinks?" The redhead rambled on making Blake sigh.
"I trust you." Ruby mumbled her back arching into Blake's hold, a choked moan leaving her mouth. The faunus hummed, running her nose along the redhead's shoulder before leaving a light kiss on one spot.
"I love you."
The faunus felt her face heat up as she closed her eyes letting her forehead fall into her hand. "I'm sorry Blake, this is all my fault, if I didn't drag you out yesterday this would've never happened."
Blake shook her head keeping her eyes closed as she pinched the bridge of her nose. "No Ruby, please don't apologize. If anyone should be apologizing it's me." She said lifting her head running a hand through her hair, as she opened her eyes she looked at Ruby again before she felt her whole body freeze.
No no no, please don't be what I think that is.
Her eyes locked on the redhead's shoulder, a shiver running down her spine. She felt her stomach twist as she shot up from the bed and within a second she found herself in the bathroom in front of the toilet.
She heard the woman take a deep breath as she moved her hips forward slowly. She set both of her hands on both sides of Ruby's head lifting herself up looking down at the redhead. A frown tugged at her mouth, she rested her hand on Ruby's cheek wiping away a stray tear.
"I'm okay… I promise." The redhead gave a reassuring smile leaning into the hand. Blake nodded slowly, hesitated for a moment before she pulled her hips back, she leaned down resting her forehead against Ruby's staring into her eyes, she thrusted forward keeping their eyes locked together.
She felt Ruby hesitantly gather her hair into a hold as she emptied the contents into the toilet bowl in front of her. The burning in her throat made her groan, she sat up slowly resting her elbow against the toilet seat.
How could she miss such a thing? It was what she thought it was… wasn't it? Is that why…she took a deep breath reaching up pulling on the handle flushing the toilet.
She felt a hand rest on her shoulder before a hand towel came into her vision, it took her a few moments before she accepted the towel giving the redhead a quiet thank you. She sat back against the wall across from the toilet letting her head fall back against it. She brought the towel up to her mouth before she sighed.
"Do you need anything?" Ruby asked, pulling her knees to her chest, she rested her chin on top looking over at the faunus.
Blake shook her head as she held her hand on her stomach.
"Mom?"
Kali hummed looking over at Blake who clutched a book to her chest. "Can I ask you something? Something… I read in a book?" The woman smiled, wiping her hands on the apron before gesturing for Blake to come closer. As the little girl got closer she squatted down before taking the book from her.
"Let's see." She hummed skimming through the book before stopping on the bookmark the younger girl had stopped on, as she read she nodded putting the bookmark back in its place. "What is your question, little one?"
Blake hesitated for a moment as she took the book back pulling it back to her chest. "It's about the mark? What exactly is it?"
Kali smiled, running her hand through Blake's hair before scratching between her ears. "It's called a mates mark, something that is between faunus mostly," She hummed, tugging on her shirt showing her neck where a small lotus flower crown was. "Of course it can be with a human, however it is more rare. It is like proposing to someone, marriage."
"It said that it is believed that part of your soul is shared with the partner? Is that true?"
The woman paused for a moment bringing her hand to his face thinking for a moment. "They do say aura is a manifestation of one's soul, at least some believe that. When you mark your partner you share part of your aura to create a mark, creating a bond with them. It has been said that partners can feel each other's pain, emotions, sometimes where they are… and it has even been said that some can hear each other's thoughts."
"But why mark someone?""A lot of people believe it is because that person is our soulmate, that we are destined to be with that person."She looked over to the redhead watching as she sat up quickly when the faunus looked at her. "Blake?"
Why her. The woman sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose. "I'm sorry Ruby…" She whispered, bringing the towel back to her mouth.
"You don't have anything to be sorry about either Blake. We both made a choice… it's …sure it was a drunk choice but…" Ruby frowned, leaning her head back. "Whatever… this was… we can forget about." She muttered her hand gripping her pants. "If that's what you want."
Blake felt a pang of pain in her chest, her hand tightening around the towel, she watched as the redhead's hand went to her shoulder as she closed her eyes with a sigh. She bit her lip, her body shaking.
"A lot of people believe it is because that person is our soulmate, that we are destined to be with that person."
Why did those words hurt her so much? She just wanted to tell her that she was wrong, they shouldn't forget about that… she wanted the redhead to remember that. But she wasn't meant to be loved… not by her. Ruby was a light… she felt she could never hold.
When a partner is marked by another they will obtain an initial mark that will last for a short while, this will be a test for both sides if they wish to continue onto the next stage.
'I need to leave…'
She looked over at the redhead seeing that she made no effort to move. Her chest tightened as she took a shaky deep breath… it hurts to breathe… why?
She was right where she wanted to be, this is what she wanted, right?
Ever since she met the young redhead, she thought that she was just a young ambitious child with a big dream. Yet, as time went on she learned more about her… falling more in love. The purity she held, that light she wanted it so bad. Ruby didn't look at her like she was a monster for being a faunus… she wasn't afraid of her… for being an ex member of a terrorist group. Why?
It wasn't until she felt a hand on her cheek wiping away her tears did she realize that she was crying, the redhead staring at her with a concerned look on her face. "I… I… why." She whispered, bringing her hand up resting it on the redhead's.
"Blake, are you okay?" Ruby whispered, wiping away more tears that fell.
No, I'm not okay… I want nothing more than to run out that door and wait until this is all over… never tell you what that bruise on you neck meant… forget.
Blake took a deep breath, her eyes slowly going to the bruise, she bit her lip her hand slowly going to the mark, she hesitated for a moment before she lightly brushed over it a shiver going up her spine… by the look on Ruby's face she too felt something when she did that. They didn't say anything as their eyes met for a moment, neither one of them saying anything.
"I… marked you… Ruby." She whispered her ears twitching before they pressed against her head, she watched as Ruby tilted her head to the side slightly, her eyebrows pulling together showing her confusion.
"I do not know what that means, but if you can explain to me what it means?"
Blake frowned, letting her thumb run along the back of Ruby's hand.
If I tell you… will you hate me?
"I… faunus…" She sighed her eyes slowly going to the bathroom door before she shook her head.
"I trust you."
She took a deep breath trying to slow her ever going heartbeat pounding in her chest. "During the time we spent last night… at some point," She paused letting her hand go back to Ruby's shoulder tugging lightly on her shirt looking at the bruise that pulsed purple. "I marked you." Another shiver went up her spine, the pulsing purple growing as her hand got closer… the warmth blossoming in her chest.
Ruby scratched her cheek feeling the heat grow on her face, she looked down at the bruise on her shoulder watching it for a moment before looking back up at the faunus. "What does it mean exactly?"
You'll hate me if I tell you… hate me… please hate me. She sighed, pulling her hand away letting it fall into her lap. "I marked you… to be my mate." Don't tell her. "That bruise on your shoulder, isn't a bruise… it's my aura in you."
She watched as Ruby's eyes went wide for a moment as she slowly sat back letting her hands rest in her lap. "You can do that?" She whispered her hand resting on top of the mark, a warmth pulsing through her hand. "That's your aura?" She asked surprised. "That's a weird feeling…"
The faunus nodded slowly. "I'm sorry, I did it without your permission."
The redhead hummed for a moment as she ran her fingers along it, shivering as she did. "Well considering you still haven't told me exactly what it means, you have nothing to be sorry for." She paused looking over to Blake. "How about this, you might not be hungry… given you just disposed of your dinner, but we should probably eat something. I'm pretty sure it's breakfast time still too, let me get breakfast… and we can talk about whatever this is." She said pointing to the mark.
Blake gave another nod watching as the redhead got up slowly before she held her hand out to the faunus. "Anything you want in particular?" Ruby asked, wrapping her signature cloak around her shoulders looking over to the woman as she sat down on her bed.
"Whatever you get is fine… as long as it's not too sweet."
The redhead gave a small nod before she gave a salute and in that moment she was out of the room in a puff of roses leaving a few behind. The faunas' eyes lingered on them for a moment before she looked up to the door with a sigh.
She liked Ruby… no she loved Ruby. Those emotions… the nervous feeling and that warmth in her chest… that was Ruby…did she feel the same?
It has been said that partners can feel each other's pain, emotions, sometimes where they are… and it has even been said that some can hear each other's thoughts.
That light, the purity… she could feel it even now as the redhead went to get breakfast. The curiosity lingered in the back of her mind, questioning. She laid back on her bed letting her hand rest on her chest, her heart pounding against it like a drum… threatening to burst at any moment.
She closed her eyes with a sigh.
She ran her fingers lightly down the faunus' chest one by one, her palm resting just short on the stomach… those silver eyes staring up at her… with such curiosity.
Blake groaned, jabbing the palms of her hands into her eyes as she turned to her side a heat spreading on her face.
Would you accept me?
Ruby sighed holding the bag in her hands as she slowly walked down the path outside of the cafeteria, her eyes stayed on the floor as she walked, her mind returning to morning conversation.
"That bruise on your shoulder, isn't a bruise… it's my aura in you."
She frowned her hand absentmindedly going up to her shoulder.
What did this mean? Marked me to be her mate?
She knew the meaning of mate, it was something small that came up while she was at signal. However the mark Blake spoke of she never learned about, what exactly it meant. What did it mean for them? What did last night mean to them? She had suggested just to forget about it… never talk about it again, yet even she knew that was a lie.
She couldn't tell if it was the woman's normal nature, but she felt as if the faunus was holding something back, she couldn't quite tell however. Blake wasn't an easy person to read, one moment she thought she knew yet then the next she was wrong.
Last night only confused her even more.
Ever since the first day in the courtyard when she exploded and that time she first spoke to the faunus about the book she was reading… She wanted to know more about her. When Blake ran after it was revealed she was a faunus… she wanted nothing more than to run after her, but what would she say? She was a coward.
As she rounded the corner she ran right into something… more like someone. A small squeak was heard as she fell to the floor, the bag landing next to her. She looked at who she had run into, praying that whoever it was didn't get hurt either.
"Velvet?" She groaned standing up slowly rubbing her bottom with a frown, she quickly held out her hand to the woman helping her up. "Ruby! Oh my dust I'm sorry for running into you!"
The redhead held out her hands shaking her head. "No that's my fault, I wasn't paying attention to my surroundings, I honestly have my head in the clouds." She said looking down at her hands before spinning around grabbing the bag before checking inside, a sigh escaping her lips as she did.
Velvet gave a small laugh making the redhead blush as she turned back to the woman. "I can understand that, is everything okay?"
The redhead hummed her hand gripping lightly on her cloak, right above the mark. She shook her head looking back at the faunus who gave her a look of curiosity. "Yes, everything is great! Just… concerned about Weiss and Yang! Not being with them… stresses me out. I trust my partner and sister, but I can't help but not be worried you know?"
The faunus nodded. "As you should, you never know what you're going to be sent on, but I believe they will be fine, those two are strong."
Ruby smiled rocking on her heels adjusting her hold on the bag. "They are indeed," She paused looking down at the bag before looking up at the faunus again. "Listen I do apologize for running into you Velvet, but I should probably get back, breakfast will get cold."
Velvet smiled. "No reason to apologize, I should have been watching myself. Tell Blake I said hello, I'll see you around." She said waving at the redhead watching as she burst into a puff of petals.
Her eyes lingered in the direction the redhead went before she smiled continuing on her journey. "Very unexpected, those two." She whispered.
Blake's ears twitched as the door to the dorm room opened, she quickly sat up seeing the redhead walk in with a bag in hand. "Breakfast has arrived!" She said, giving a small laugh as she walked over to Blake's desk.
"Something simple, I figured pancakes wouldn't be too hard on our stomachs, I got fruits for yours." She said, handing Blake her food. The faunus smiled sitting down at her desk while Ruby hopped up onto Yang's desk, they both stayed quiet as they ate their breakfast. Neither one of them wanted to break the silence they had, both thinking.
Blake looked towards the redhead out of the corner of her eye as she took a small bite from a strawberry.
She watched as Ruby smiled to herself taking a bite from a pancake with what she assumed had chocolate chips in it. A small smile tugged at her lips before she looked back at her food.
"If we always fear we will lose something, we will always regret, Blake."
The faunus took a deep breath as she set the fork down. "Ruby." She said getting a hum from the redhead.
"I… I'm in love with you." She whispered, closing her eyes. I really do. She let out a shaky breath. "Dust I'm never this forward… I-I just, I guess I didn't want to lose my chance. You would think with all those books I read… talking would be easy for me, and yet here I am mumbling like a mess." She leaned forward, setting her elbow on the desk before resting her forehead in her hand. "I just wish… last night… I wish I told you before anything like this happened."
The redhead said nothing as she slowly set down her now empty breakfast box. She got up slowly from the desk taking a step towards Blake before she hesitated for a moment, her hand hanging in the air as she looked down at the woman. Slowly she wrapped her arms around Blake's shoulders feeling her tense at the touch before she loosened into the hold leaning back.
"You're scared?"
"Terrified…actually. Ruby… I don't want to forget about last night… yet I'm scared." Ruby nodded resting her forehead on Blake's shoulder listening to her breathing.
"Would you believe me if I told you I was scared as well? Last night was my first time… with someone… I'm glad it was with you, even if we don't remember fully what happened." She paused for a moment leaning back from the faunus watching as she turned around in the chair looking up at her. "I love you too Blake, I have for a while now… we may not know right now what happened between us or where this will go… and I still don't know much about this mark, but I want to find out with you."
Blake bit her lip before exhaling slowly. "You don't hate me?"
The redhead shook her head smiling. "I could never."
