When Amelia got home, she was feeling pretty bad. She knew it was a horrible situation for Arizona and she needed to apologize, even if she decides that she needed to be alone for a while, and not in any kind of a relationship. Although she wanted to do that in person and not over a text message, it was too late to just show up again at her hotel or even to call, since Arizona would have to be at the conference again in the morning. Amelia decided to text her instead, trying to make a mend somehow.
Didn't want to do this over text but it's late and I needed to apologize. I had no idea Kai would show up, but I wanted to leave with you. Can we meet tomorrow and talk? Again, I'm sorry, the last thing I wanted was for you to feel bad in any way. Good night. Sleep well.
Arizona was already sleeping and only saw the text in the morning. She didn't know exactly what to say or even what to feel about it. The last thing she needed was to be stuck in the middle of a chaos. She already had enough of that in her life. At the same time, she knew it would be rude not to answer and at least a talk could put an end at that properly.
Of course we can. I'll be at the conference until 6pm. Tell me how it works for you.
In the middle of the day, Arizona was still feeling weird about what happened last night. She liked Amelia, somehow more than she should. It was a little overwhelming how much she cared for something that barely started – and specially that barely had a chance to work out due to the long distance between them. But yet, she cared, and she liked Amelia. She was jealousy seeing Kai touching her, knowing how careless they were with her. She was jealousy imagining if Amelia went home with them. Did she? Did she want to get back together? Was she hoping for them to talk just for her to end things? Her thoughts were interrupted by a familiar voice.
"Arizona?" – Maggie was surprised to ser her ex-colleague there.
"Pierce! Oh, hi! It's nice to see you!" – Arizona exclaimed.
"You, too! I didn't expect to see you here, you should've let us know you were coming!" – Maggie said.
"It was kind of a last minute decision, they invited me to do a talk yesterday" – Arizona explained.
"I can't believe it! I was caught up in a surgery yesterday and missed it. Well, why don't we have dinner tonight? I will talk to Meredith and Amelia, they would love to see you, too!" – Maggie suggested and Arizona was a little embarrassed to explain she couldn't.
"I-I… Actually, I don't think I can tonight, I'm sorry" – Arizona was stammering. She was the worst liar.
"Why? Wait, something happened? You don't like them?" – Maggie noticed how fast Arizona was blushing.
"What? No! Oh my God, no, I love them!" – Arizona said and immediately blushed again because of the word 'love' and tried to correct – "Like them. Very much"
"Why are you being weird? Oh, c'mon, I want you to meet my husband!" – Maggie insisted.
"Wait, you got married? To whom?" – Arizona asked.
"His name is Winston Ndugu, he's also a cardiothoracic surgeon and actually we've worked together years ago when I was in Boston" – Maggie told her.
"Oh, well, I can't wait to meet him! But can we do this tomorrow? I'll meet Amelia tonight, actually" – Arizona decided to tell Maggie before it could get out of control.
"Oh, really? Why don't we join you, then? I mean, is it ok?" – Maggie asked and quickly noticed Arizona uncomfortable – "Oh my God, it's a date?"
"No! It's not. I mean, we just need to talk, that's all" – Arizona was evasive.
"Wait a minute. Were you guys together last night? Amelia had a dinner, and I genuinely thought it was an excuse to meet Kai and I thought I've confirmed that when they showed up at Grey Sloan later" – Maggie explained – "But now I think they weren't together. This 'we need to talk' seems like something else. Like, maybe, you guys were in a date...?" - Maggie smiled.
"You're very creative, I must say"- Arizona laughed.
"Well, I am. But something tells me I'm getting close" – Maggie insisted.
"Do you realize you just told me a bunch of Amelia's stuff that maybe she didn't want anyone to know?" – Arizona asked.
"I do. Now" – Maggie was a little ashamed.
"Relax. I won't say anything. If you stop asking me things" – Arizona bargained.
"Ok. I won't insist anymore. But I still want us to have dinner tomorrow, can we?" – Maggie insisted.
"Yes, of course. Name a place and time and let me know!" – Arizona agreed.
"Deal. I'll text you" – Maggie said, and Arizona squeezed her hand and started to walk away, when Maggie called her name – "Arizona?"
"Yes?" – Arizona turned around.
"I would love if you were the one in a date with Amelia. Just so you know" – Maggie said smiling and left.
