Chapter 17: Questions and Answers
"Why am I here?..."Danny asked.
"Just to ask a few questions..."Superman said.
"Great, just what I need...an interrogation..."Danny thought nervously as they looked at him.
"What kind of questions?..."He asked as Green Lantern stepped forward.
"Look kid, we need to know what you've got..."He said as he crossed his arms.
"Huh?..."Danny questioned.
"He means that we need to see your powers and what you can do..."Hawk girl explained.
"Why?..." Danny asked .
"Security purposes. J'onn might have verified who you are but your abilities are an unknown variable..."Batman said, still as intimidating as yesterday.
"Especially since you took down a guy like Atomic Skull yesterday..." Hawkgirl said.
"We also need to know just what exactly are you..."Batman added.
Danny looked on edge upon hearing that.
"Why? I'll be gone when you find a way to get me home. For all we know, I'll be gone before dinnertime..."He said as a means to get out of this.
"Look kid, we understand about secret identities but we need to have a handle on what you can do if anything happens. You'll be surprised at what come our way..."Flash said.
Danny heard this and he supposed he could understand that. He sighed and decided to cooperate the best he can.
"Okay, I...I can't tell everything...at least for my own security but I can tell you this, I'm a ghost..."Danny said awkwardly.
The older heroes and Kara didn't react much to that.
"No, you're not. You have ghostly abilities but you're not a ghost. We know that much..."Batman said, surprising Danny.
"You guys know I'm not a ghost? Wait, how do you know?..."Danny said.
"You're not a bad liar but all evidence supports that you're more just a simple ghost. So, I'll ask again: what are you?..."Batman explained and Danny mentally sweated at the caped crusader's deduction.
It was then Danny had first hand experience with the world's greatest detective.
"Okay, this guy's starting to scare me... and I fight ghosts!..."He thought before speaking up. "I'm not sure you'd get it..."The ghost boy said but the caped crusader didn't change his expression one bit.
"You'd be surprised what I went through before the League. You're on a space station on another Earth with this world's best heroes. If I were you, I wouldn't try to lie..."Batman added.
"For the record, this isn't the first time we've dealt with ghosts or the supernatural. Not to mention, Batman's seen just about everything imaginable..."Kara explained.
"And on the record, we know that you're some sort of meta-human..."Batman said.
"What's a meta-human?..."Danny asked.
"Humans with enhanced abilities..."Kara answered before the caped crusader stepped forward.
"We've been at this since before you were born. So, it's pointless to lie to us about yourself..."Batman said sternly to him before continuing.
"So, you can tell us the truth. This is a safe space and we won't tell anyone about your human form,like that your hair color is inverted right now..."Superman said. surprising the boy.
"Wait, you know about what I really look like?..."Danny questioned, surprised and a little nervous.
"I saw you change to your human form when you were passed out yesterday..."Superman explained.
"I...also saw that when you passed out before I dropped you off at the apartment too..."Kara explained.
Danny was blushing with embarrassment before realizing he couldn't lie to a bunch of superheroes. Especially since they saw everything. Not to mention one seemed to figure out his powers as well.
"Then I guess it's stupid to keep the truth hidden here..."Danny sighed before looking to see the nodding faces of the founding members. "And since this is another dimension filled with superheroes, I guess I can show you my true form but I ask for complete secrecy on this. I'm not exactly the kind of guy to reveal everything..."He said reluctantly.
"Fair enough, Danny. I can vouch for everyone that you can trust us to keep your secret..."Kara promised before turning to her cousin. "Right?..."She said.
Superman and the rest of the League nodded.
Danny hesitated before he transformed into his human form.
"So, this is what you really look like?..."Green Lantern asked and the ghost kid nodded.
"My name is Danny Fenton and I am Danny Phantom, the duly deputized protector of Amity Park..."He said.
"The kid's name is Fenton? And the best he comes up with is Danny PHANTOM?!..."The Flash thought, unaware that almost all thought about that name before looking at the ghost boy.
"Anything else?..."Batman demanded as he continued to glare.
Danny began to explain his story to the heroes, giving the basic version of how he got his powers, who he is and what he's done since getting his powers. Kara, in particular, sat silently as she listened.
"So, you were in this lab accident that turned you into what the ghosts call a halfa and gave you powers, and you used them to fight ghosts and protect your own home town from danger?..."Kara asked after hearing his story.
The ghost boy nodded.
"Yes, pretty much..."Danny responded. "Uh, is that weird?..."He said, rubbing the back of his head.
"Actually, that's pretty tame by comparison around here. Me and my cousin here just happen to be two of the last survivors of our home worlds after they were destroyed..."Kara said, like it's a normal thing to say.
"It's true but we have more important matters to discuss that origin stories..."Superman said, wanting to get back on the subject.
"Specifically the extents of your abilities..."Batman added, cementing the change in subject.
"So, what do you wanna know?..."Danny asked, feeling like he was under a microscope.
"First, we want to know what else you can do..."Superman said in a stern tone.
"We would like you to demonstrate your abilities..."Wonder Woman added.
"So, you want me to show off my powers?..."Danny questioned.
"Yes..."They all said.
Danny sighed, with nothing left to lose, he decided to just go with it.
"Okay..."He said as his eyes glowed.
"I'm going ghost!..."He said before changing forms, back from Fenton to Phantom.
He just wanted to be home as soon as possible and hope the worst waiting for him was him finding the Box Ghost had stolen all of Amity Parks bubble wrap again.
Later
Danny was brought to brought to a training room and Superman, being the one in front, introduced him to the room.
"So, this is the training room. Here, we will test what you can do..."Superman explained.
"But first we need to know how many powers you have under your belt in order to know what you're capable of, so we know your limits..."Batman added, not wanting to try something that would accidentally kill the young boy.
Danny blinked and he thought about it. He was about to speak but then he recounted all that he could do. He gave a shrug and the best possible answer.
"To be honest, I don't even know how many powers I have in me anymore..."The ghost boy said.
"I see..."Batman said.
The Dark Knight could tell he's not lying to his face, he figures that Danny's powers are developing as he aged. Bruce remembered Clark saying his powers hadn't developed until he was in high school,so this is probably like that.
"We don't need to know all, just the basics of what you can do..."Superman said.
"How many powers do you know of?..."Kara asked.
"To be honest, I lost count when I reached sixty. I kinda just stopped logging them..."Danny said and the girl of steal looked surprised by that.
All of the league had a surprised face, the whole place is silent as everyone (except Batman) took a moment to register that.
"WHAT?!..."They all said.
"You have over 60 powers?..."Kara asked in disbelief.
Danny felt a little embarrassed by this attention that he was getting from everyone.
"Yeah, I think around that..."He answered awkwardly as the other heroes stared at him. "Look, I'm not that good at math..."He added.
"What exactly do you recall you can do?..." Green Lantern questioned.
The ghost boy lightly scratched his chin, trying to think of them all.
"I can fly, go intangible, I have super strength, invisibility, I can fire blasts of ecto-energy from my hands or my eyes, I can sense other spirits when they show up. I'm pretty durable, I heal fast...which is good since I've been hit by things that should've hospitalized me and expose my secret...I can't exactly go to a doctor and explain I had a car thrown at me. . I can overshadow someone when I enter their body by phasing inside them and can use their body during that time..."He said but noticed the uncomfortable look from them. "I don't do it for fun, of course. Only as a necessity..."He added before he continued.
"I can also resist others controlling me if they are weaker than me. I can also make shields, ice blasts and there's my last resort power. the ghostly wail..."Danny said before he felt a little headache, trying to remember as best as he could.
The league shared looks of uncertainty as they processed this.
"Well, at least he seems versatile..."Wonder Woman said, pointing out some level of intrigue.
"Any weaknesses we should be aware of?..." J'onn asked.
Danny winced for a moment as he thought about giving too much info, he was seriously not wanting to mention his thing with the blood blossoms, though he figured they probably don't grow on this Earth but still, his weaknesses weren't something he wanted to let people he'd just meant know about.
"Those, I'd prefer to keep to myself..."He answered.
"Very well..." J'onn said as the others thankfully respected that.
Superman then motioned everyone to clear the room for him.
"Here you go, Phantom. The floor is yours..."Superman said as the founding league members then left the training room for Danny to show what he can do.
Danny saw the League leaving and was left standing. He saw the droid and looked to Superman.
"Uh, you want me to break these things? I'm sure they're pretty expensive..." Danny asked as he pointed to the robots.
"Don't worry. These training bots are pretty durable, so feel free to go all out..." Hawkgirl said, juggling her mace with a grin. "It's fun..."She added.
"They're designed to to take full powered hits from Superman and keep fighting, you'll be fine..."The Flash added. "So, don't hold back..."He said.
Danny nodded before looking over he saw Kara. She was smiling with encouragement as they noticed all the leaguers in the observation window
However, he noticed that some of the other people were here to watch. It made him feel like he was auditioning for a spot on a TV show.
"Why are there so many people watching?..."Danny asked Kara, who was still standing with him.
"They must want to see the new guy and what he's capable of..."Kara said but Danny didn't buy it.
"You mean they're hoping I'll mess up and laugh..."Danny said, recalling the time he trained with Frostbite.
Kara shrugged and she didn't disagree.
"Probably, though most of these guys don't really seem to have a sense of humor. So, that's about it for questions. I'll see you after this..."She said to Danny as she went to others, who were all watching.
Danny sighed before he decided to get this over with.
He turned and faced off against a robot. The robot transforming into a version of Atomic Skull.
"Guess they wanted a replay..."He thought.
He then heard Superman's voice in the intercom.
"Okay Danny, we'll take this slowly. We've got these training droids at a low setting, so they won't try to attack until you make the first move. You may start whenever you're ready..."The man of steal said.
"Got it..."Danny said as he began to fight with the droid that resembled the Atomic Skull.
All the while, Kara watched with intrigued eyes.
"This is gonna be good..."The girl of steal thought as she watched Danny fly off to fight "the Atomic Skull" again.
