Chapter 19: Meetings
After the training exercise was complete, Danny had left the area. He was still winded from the experience. Supergirl was with him while her cousin and the others had a meeting to attend and then in order to talk to Doctor Fate and get his help.
The ghost boy really hoped that whoever this man is, he will be able to help.
"I feel like they're going to go over everything I did in there..."He thought, uneasy as he noticed some of the other heroes talking to each other as they noticed the ghost boy, no doubt because of the "advertisement."
"That kid is tougher than he looks..."One hero in a purple suit, whispered with a stretched head to another that had a blue and white outfit.
"He's strong for a rookie..."A female hero in a green ensemble said to the guy next to her.
Danny gave nervous chuckles and blushes in embarrassment as he heard everything.
He wasn't used to being the center of attention.
"So, Danny...how are you feeling?..."Supergirl asked him after the others had left.
The ghost boy sighed.
"Well, I am not getting mocked, teased, pranked, or made fun of. At least, that's a plus to being here..."He said and Kara chuckled at that. "So, yeah...it's alright but it's a bit awkward. At least, it's only temporary..."He said before looking at her. "So, this Doctor Fate guy can really help me get home?...He asked
"Yeah, that's what my cousin says. Trust, me...this guy knows his stuff. He's been doing magic like that for centuries..."Supergirl said.
Danny took her word for it and nodded.
"Come on, it'll be okay. You're with the worlds greatest heroes who have access to some of the most advanced tech with connections to magical beings. We'll get you home safe and sound..."Supergirl said with an easy going smile. "So, feel better now?..."She asked.
Danny, despite it all, sent her a small smile and nodded.
"Yeah..."He said as his mood brightened a bit.
Meanwhile
In The Conference Room
The founding members of the Justice League were all gathered and were now discussing their "guest".
They had seen the ghost boy's power and after his training exercise, they asked him a few more questions and he admitted that he held back using ALL his powers since there are some he only uses for emergencies.
It made them wary of what he could do in an actual fight.
"So, what do you think of him?..."Green Lantern was the first to speak.
"Well, the kid is definitely a powerhouse, he might be able to give some of the tougher bad guys a run for their money..."The Flash commented while the other heroes agreed.
"I don't know about that. I'm still impressed that he has quite an arsenal at a young age..."Shayera admitted.
"As I said, he is a skilled young warrior..."Wonder Woman said, still surprised that the boy possessed such skills in battle.
"You've been in his head, J'onn. Do you think he might overpower us?..."The Green Lantern asked while looking at the martian.
"I can't say for certain how powerful he can get..."Martian Manhunter said, plainly. "But he does have experience for one so young..."He added.
Hearing that made Wonder Woman recall something.
"Earlier, he told me that he is the only super-powered hero in his home dimension..."The amazon said, recalling that conversation.
"Really? The only one?..."Superman questioned, surprised by that.
The amazon nodded.
"Yes, the only other hero...or hunters...it seems he's at odds with them..."She said, recalling what the ghost child told her.
This surprised the other heroes. While most usually fought alone, being the only meta-human in the world must make the job difficult. It was admirable yes, but they couldn't help feeling a bit sorry for the boy.
"He also mentioned something about having allies that had no powers but he spoke about them as if they were his equals..."She added.
"While he treats them as his equals, he is still the only one with powers among his human allies and the number of ghostly allies can be counted on one hand versus the many foes that he has against him..."The Martian Man hunter said.
"Wow, that's a lot of pressure..."The Flash said, feeling bad for the kid.
"No kidding..."Green Lantern said.
The next person who spoke is the Dark Knight, who had been deep in thought since he saw Danny's display.
"Regardless, we have to get him home..."He reminded them and Superman nodded.
"Yes, we have to contact Doctor Fate. He IS suppose to be an expert on things like that..."The man of steel said. "Speaking of which, where is he?..."He asked.
"The doctor has yet to return from his mission in the fifth dimension..."The Martian Manhunter responded. "I've spent the majority of this meeting trying to initiate psychic contact with Doctor Fate but it seems that he is out of my range..."The Martian Manhunter said.
The others frowned at that.
"So, I guess to find another way to call the doc..."The Flash commented under his breath.
The other's were silent for a moment before they discussed ways to contact Doctor Fate.
Back with Danny and Supergirl
The two teen heroes were staring out the window. The darkness of space with the twinkling stars was soothing for the ghost boy. It reminded him of his dream back home.
"So, you wanted to be an astronaut?..."Supergirl said as she kept him company.
"Yeah. There was always something about space and the stars beyond that drew me in..."The ghost boy said.
"It is pretty amazing..."The blonde girl said as she thought about her own time in space.
She then looked to the ghostly boy and recalled their first encounter and everything since then.
"You know...you did good job...back with Atomic Skull, Danny..." Kara said, smile while the boy rubbed his head with a blush.
"Thanks..." Danny stuttered.
The girl studied the boy for a moment and smiled as the ghost boy looked out the window again, amazed by space.
"You know...he is a pretty okay guy..."She thought as she looked at him.
He's kinda cute and that white hair and glowing green eyes combo was cool, but he didn't seem like boyfriend material. It was mainly due to the fact he comes from another world and is younger than her. But other than that, she might have given him a chance.
"Is something up?..." Danny asked, his face now all red by her staring.
Supergirl realized she was staring and looked embarrassed now.
"Oh nothing. ..."She said coolly. "Just thinking..."She added.
"So, how do you like it here so far?..." Kara asked.
Danny heard this and thought about this world and the people that he's met so far.
"Well, I haven't been here for long but it's not as bad as I thought it'd be. Everyone's been nice except Stargirl. No offense, but she's a hothead ..."Danny said, only to suddenly hear an "ahem".
He turned around and saw Stargirl, looking annoyed and scowling, making it clear that she heard him talk about her.
"And she heard me..."Danny said as he dragged a hand down his face.
Stargirl, on the other hand, frowned even harder.
"Yeah, I did. A hothead am I?..."She said angrily but Kara stepped in.
"Relax Stargirl, we're all on the same side here and you haven't exactly exactly given Danny a warm welcome..."Kara said, while the other blonde "hmpt".
"The guy just appeared out of nowhere and suddenly he's got the founders' attention and calls me a hot head? Who does he think he is!?..."Stargirl thought before she glared at Danny, who looked awkward now as she spoke to him.
"Well… let me make this clear, New Guy. I've got better things to do then babysit a newbie, so just say out of my way..." She said pointed her finger at his chest.
Danny frowned at this.
"She's got a worse temper than Valerie does..." He thought before he cleared his throat.
"Okay, I think we got off on the wrong foot here. Let's start over..."He began as he gave his hand. "I'm Danny, Danny Phantom..."He greeted.
"Don't care..." She responds, rolling her eyes.
Danny put his hand down at the rejection while Kara frowned and crossed her arms.
"Sheesh, Stargirl! Just chill!..."The girl of steel said while her rival rolled her eyes.
"How about this instead? Tell your new boyfriend to mind his business and stay out of my way!..."Stargirl said dismissively and both Danny and Kara have a deep blush at that.
"He's not my-..."
"Courtney..." A man's voice said in warning.
Danny then saw a man in a flight suit walking over to them. He looked upset at Stargirl.
"Danny, this is S.T.R.I.P.E. He's another league and Stargirl's partner and stepdad..."Supergirl said to the ghost boy.
"I think you owe these two an apology, young lady..."S.T.R.I.P.E. said while Stargirl frowned but complied. Mostly since she didn't want to be in this situation any longer.
"Sorry..."She said sarcastically and the other teens frowned.
"Say it like you mean it..." Her stepfather warned.
Stargirl shot a glare at that before groaning, wanting to get out of this.
"Fine... I'm sorry." She said, trying hard to sound sincere but the other teens didn't buy it.
S.T.R.I.P.E. sighed before turning to the other teenagers.
"I apologize for my stepdaughter, she isn't usually so confrontational..."S.T.R.I .P.E. said while Stargirl looked annoyed.
Danny frowned and nodded.
"It's okay. No harm done..."Danny said, trying to deescalate the situation
"Whatever..."Stargirl said to the two before walking away in annoyance.
Her stepfather shook his head.
"What am I going to do with that girl?..."He thought before following her.
As Stargirl and S.T.R.I.P.E. walked off, Kara turned to Danny.
"So,you were saying before we were interrupted?..."She asked.
The ghost boy paused for a moment before turning to the female hero.
"Uh, right. I think we were talking about space and the fight with the skull guy..."He said, feeling better as he kept talking with the pretty alien girl.
Back to the meeting
The adult heroes were trying to come up with a way to help their visitor.
"What if Mr. Terrific could help?..."Superman suggested but the others shook their heads.
"I don't think this is his field of expertise. Besides, he's he's coordinating the relief mission in Kaznia..."Batman answered as they tried to come up with more ideas.
"Then why not Zatanna or Captain Marvel? They do magic..."The Flash suggested.
"I don't think Zatanna will have the understanding of inter-dimensional travel that we need. As for Captain Marvel, he's still not exactly on speaking terms with us, even after we were proven right about Luthor..."Wonder Woman pointed out.
"Oh... yeah..." The Flash went, embarrassed that he suggested that.
"Then why not try this ourselves?..."Shayera suggested.
"And risk the kid ending up in in who-knows-where? Bad idea..."Green Lanter said. "We'd need every detail possible before even attempting anything..."He said.
"What about contacting Inza to reach Doctor Fate? She could find him, right?..."Wonder Woman suggested but J'onn shook his head.
"It's possible but it could take time..."The Martian Man Hunter said.
"Then we have to be patient here..."Wonder Woman said.
"What do you mean?..."The Flash asked.
"We have no choice but to be patient and keep the boy under our watch until Doctor Fate is contacted..."Batman said.
Besides, he still wanted to investigate the boy more. While he did give an impressive demonstration, he is still cautious and wanted to just how much power has.
"Exactly..."Wonder Woman nodded.
Superman heard this and was on board.
"I'm not to sure about this but he hasn't done anything yet..."He mused before his thoughts went to his cousin. "Plus, Kara won't want her new friend to be stranded here..."He thought as he tried to think of something.
However, before they could continue to discuss more of the problem, the alarms went off.
"What now?..."Superman said as the other heroes headed towards the monitor room.
Back with Danny and Kara
The alarm suddenly went off and Danny was caught off guard for a second while the others heroes scurried down the halls and prepared for possible trouble.
"Supergirl? What's going on?..."Danny asked and Kara looked around.
She used her X-ray vision and soon saw what was wrong. She saw something outside that made her frown.
"Trouble..."She answered as she narrowed her eyes.
