The Ghost Boy and The Super Girl

Chapter 22: Danny's First Mission

While Danny and Kara were hanging out, Superman...or rather, Clark Kent, was busy working.

He met up with Lois and they were currently discussing events unfolding.

"There you are, Smallville. Where have been?..."Lois said, sounding impatient as she checked her wristwatch to see just how late her workmate was.

"Well, you know how busy traffic gets during robberies in Metropolis..."He said, lying about where he really was.

The dark haired woman rolled her eyes at that.

"Save me the excuse, Kent. I hear that Supergirl was just spotted downtown at the robbery and word is she had help, some new rookie in a silver and black jumpsuit with white hair that no one has seen before..."The female reporter said, disappointed that she wasn't there to interview them first.

"Even worse, there were reporters there and NONE of them were from here. Obviously, Perry's not too happy to hear about it..."She muttered, with arms crossed.

That got Clark's attention.

"I somehow knew that she wouldn't be able to stay out of trouble, though I can't fault her for stopping those men..." He thought, knowing that his protége can't ignore a cry a help.

"Anyway, you better have been keeping up to date, Kent. Luthor's been spotted somewhere near here and my sources tell me that he's up to no good again..."Lois said, gesturing to the area on the map she showed.

Clark sighed.

"I figured..."He said.

"Good. Now if you're all caught up, Smallville, then you better get ready..."Lois said, stuffing her bag with things, and wanting to make sure that her work partner won't slow her down.

That's when Jimmy approached with his camera.

"Where are you going?..." Clark asked.

"Hit up a few spots Lex owned, to see if he's hiding out there..." Lois explained.

However, just before they could leave, their boss called out for them.

"Kent! Lane!..."Perry White said as two stopped their conversation.

"Stop whatever scoop you two were about to look into. I'm gonna need you two..."The editor said as marched over.

He then showed them the local news broadcast reporting and replaying what had just happened a couple of hours ago about the robbery and an appearance on that new hero making his first appearance in Metropolis.

"There is a new hero in town, some guy named Danny Phantom and everyone is trying to get to know who he is. Everyone is also trying to get an official interview with him. Obviously, we need to be the first ones to do it..."He said, still upset that his competitors got to see him in action first.

Clark heard this, widen his eyes a bit. Thankfully no one seems to notice. He realized how soon Danny's become popular and that is both a good and bad thing, given the circumstances.

"I guess that I should have expected this happening at some point..."He thought, as he received the instructions from his boss.

Lois raised a brow and leaned onto her desk, as she analyzed the image of the new superhero, while the photographer of the group made comments.

"Danny Phantom? And I thought that was just the mascot of some new video game people were talking about..."Jimmy said, before seeing the information about Supergirl and her new partner, which was now trending on social media.

"Jimmy. You, Kent and Lane are gonna go and look for anything on this Phantom kid and find out who he is. Get me some kind of fact that we can post in tomorrow's news..."Perry ordered.

Lois was still having Luthor on her mind, wishing she could deal with him instead. However, she also knew that she was a professional and Perry is in charge here.

Still, she couldn't help but make some comments here.

"That name? Seriously? Danny Phantom? And I thought Plastic Man was kind of on the nose. These heroes need to come up with more creative names..."She muttered.

"It's what he called himself and it's not like we can rebrand him now. Not like you did with Superman..."Perry said with a shrug.

"But that name. I mean, it's as if this new kid has never been around any other superheroes before in his life..."She said, unaware of how close to the truth that statement was.

Clark, however, was.

"If only you knew..."He thought, as Lois kept asking questions to their boss.

"So, is he someone's new sidekick, some upstart that's trying to make a name for himself or just a publicity stunt?..."The female reporter asked.

"That's what I want to know and I want you guys to do a story on him. The public wants to know just who or what this new young hero is and what his real story is. I want it yesterday. Gotta work fast before our competitors get ahead of us and beat us to the punch!..."Perry ordered.

"Got it, Sir..."Clark said, knowing that he had to make sure Danny stays out of trouble.

He also had to to handle this situation, before it got out of hand.

"How can you get it yesterday? We can't time travel and he just showed up..." Jimmy pointed out, being ignored before realizing he'll get no answer and moved on.

Perry soon went back to office, expecting the report done as soon as possible.

Before Clark knew it, Lois was halfway to the elevator. It was clear that her inherit skills of a reporter had kicked in full gear.

"Alright, you heard the boss. The sooner we do this, the sooner we can get back to looking for Luthor. Now, both of you boys better move your butts or I'll leave ya both behind!..."Lois warned, as she was already heading out the door.

Jimmy did his best to keep up with her pace and follow her. Clark decided to act like he can't just speed up and walk calmly, having no trouble at all.

"Sometimes I wish she knew..."He thought, adjusting his glasses as he walked.

Lois wanted to get this done quickly, and he knew that it's best not to get in her way.

Speaking of Lois, she kept walking with a determined look on her face.

"The sooner we find out about this kid, the sooner I can get back to doing some REAL work..."She mused.

She thought about where to find Lex while she's currently about to head out to do some field work, and find more about the brand new young hero that's quickly making a name for himself in Metropolis.

As the reporters went to work, Clark sighed as he knew that he had a lot of "damage control" ahead of him.

"Looks like keeping a low profile has a different meaning from whatever universe Danny is from..."He thought, as he also made some mental notes to talk to both Danny and Kara about the meaning of being discreet.

Meanwhile

Danny and Kara had just visited the arcade at the shopping mall, the retro section specifically and the ghost boy was really impressed with everything he saw here.

"So, that's what video games are like in this universe..."Danny commented, after leaving the arcade.

"I'm gonna assume more complex too..."Kara said, curious.

"I guess you could say that. There are so many games that I've never even heard of and some that sound like spin-off games from my Earth. Speaking of which, I've noticed that there's a lot more fighting games in this world compared to my own..."He said.

"I mean they do look similar, with some notable differences, though I can see fatalities with pulling out spines is a constant in the multiverse..."Danny said, recalling a similar game in his world.

"Yeah, but in hindsight, a lot of those fighting games aren't so impressive when you've actually been through way tougher fights in your life..."The disguised girl said.

The ghost boy considered what she said and realized that she had a good point in that regard.

"Well, you've got me there..."He admitted.

"Not that I want to get in a fight with someone who wants to rip my spine out..." She added.

"Me neither..." Danny responded. "Still, I have someone who wants to skin me, so I kinda have it worse..."He commented, recalling a certain foe who is responsible for him being sent here.

"Ouch. That sounds troubling..."Supergirl said, not knowing how she'd handle someone like that every day.

"It is. Good thing he's kind of a moron, otherwise I wouldn't still be here..." Danny said.

"I see. Well...still, it's fun to play these games during free time...almost like those games where people live virtual lives...sort of..."Kara said, and the ghost boy chuckled.

"Yeah, I guess in a way..."Danny said, seeing the comparison.

"Plus, I don't know if this applies to your world, but here...they're trying to work on creating a VR system for the newer games, but they got delayed due to some bugs in the early development. But still, the arcade versions of these games never gets too out of style play in my book..."Kara said.

"It's the same thing back in my world. My friend, Tucker, is trying to see if he can speed things up, working on his own version. However, he's no miracle worker and has to find money for it. Money he spends more on burgers than anything else..."Danny said, laughing at the end as he remembered how the tech-obsessed boy is still trying to patent his own tech.

Kara smiled warmly, seeing him looking happy at recalling his friends.

She then noticed that the sun was starting to set, which also meant that it was getting late as the street lights were about to turn on for the night and some shops were about to call in for the day.

"I guess that Sun's is about to check out for the day soon. Guess we're close to finishing the tour. We should head back soon..."She said.

"Huh? Oh...yeah..."Danny said, kinda bummed that the tour ended so soon.

Kara noticed this and got an idea.

"Hey...Wanna take this to the skies? I know a great spot that shows an amazing view of the city at sun down, It really takes your breath away..."She offered.

Danny heard this and smiled.

"Lead the way..."He said, still smiling as he wondered what she had in store for him.

A little later

Danny and Kara, now as Danny Phantom and Supergirl, had just arrived to the top of one of the tallest buildings in Metropolis. They were currently overlooking the entire city and the ghost boy was admiring the view.

"Wow, one heck of a sight!..."Danny said, amazed by it.

Sure, he has seen sunsets back home and they were a pretty sight to behold, but this view was definitely not like Amity Park.

It was on a whole new level.

It really does take your breath away, even better since he was sharing it with a breathtakingly beautiful super heroine.

"Yeah, it's just one of the perks of defending such a great city like this one. You just never get tried of seeing a view like this..."Supergirl said, as she watched the sunset with a calming smile on her face.

"From up here...this place shows real beauty is timeless..."She added.

"Your beauty is timeless..."He thought as he cast a glance at her, until he continued his train of thought.

"Don't say that out loud, you idiot! You're actually getting along with a super hot blonde superhero who would otherwise be totally out of your league! Don't act like an even bigger dork than on your Earth right in front of her!..."He thought, sweating profusely as he tried to act normal and enjoy this lovely moment with Kara.

Thankfully his thoughts were interrupted, once he heard Kara trying to break ice by starting up another conversation between them.

"Hey..."The blonde heroine began.

"Yeah?..."Danny asked, trying to act normal around her.

"So...what's life like in your universe... if you don't mind me asking?..."Supergirl asked, wanting to know more about her new friend from another dimension.

Danny didn't seem all that bothered to answer her question. If anything, he was happy to talk more with her. He sat down and gestured for her to do the same, as they both sat across from each other.

Usually, he was pretty secretive about his life, but something deep inside told him that it was safe to open up a little with her.

Plus, the fact that he's been talking about his Earth with good company was actually pretty comforting. Especially around Supergirl, since she genuinely seemed curious about what his home was like. He also recalled that, since he's on another world, there's no harm if he shared more about his life.

It's not like he has any reason to hide anything from her at this point, especially since she's already seen his human form and knew his real name.

Trying to hide anything else would be pretty pointless right now.

"Eh, she already knows my secret and me being from another universe. And it is nice to talking about home even if there might be a chance that I'll never see her again after this. Plus, I don't think she's in any rush to tell Mom and Dad..."He thought, taking in a deep breath then breathed out.

He decided to do it.

Danny would start by describing everything he knew that was different from this Earth compared to his own.

"So, on my world... people don't look this... uh... good looking I guess. Maybe it's our diets or whatever. Anyway, my world also, as I might've made it clear, is rather close to a dimension called the Ghost Zone. As the name implies, it's where ghosts came from..."Danny said, trying to explain as best he can.

He talked more about his home as best as he could, while the alien heroine kept listening intently.

"So... where does the whole having powers come in again?..."Supergirl asked.

"Well...I was never actually born with these ghost powers, I actually got them from a lab accident. Before I got my powers, I was just an average, ordinary kid...or as ordinary as you can be with ghost hunters for parents..."Danny said, scratching the back of his head.

"You did mention that a while back, what kind of lab accident caused you to get your powers?..."Supergirl said, curious as to how Danny became what he is today.

"The kind that probably should've ended my story then and there, but didn't. I'm still not too sure how I managed to survive, but you won't be hearing me complain about it..." Danny replied, trying to crack a joke to ease the tension.

The alien girl listened in, not looking disbelieving but rather with fascination.

"A lot of the members of the league tend to get their powers in similar ways, provided they're not aliens or magic..."Supergirl said, recalling a few of her friends who gained powers through similar events.

"Well...I guess...if I person is gonna get powers...I guess that a lab accident is the most common way to go about it..."Danny joked but worried if that was in bad taste.

Thankfully, the blonde heroine laughed lightly at that.

"I guess so..."She admitted, erasing his worries for now.

"So, what else is there to your life story?..."She asked, wanting to know more.

"Well, it's kind of a long story, but I'll to focus on the main stuff that happened back then. My parents made the ghost portal and it seemed like it didn't work. Until I put on this jumpsuit and went inside it after my friend Sam dared me to check it out..."Danny said, as he recalled that fateful day.

"Once there, I accidentally turned it on from the inside and after the most absolutely painful experience of my entire life happened in an instant. I woke up a couple minutes later feeling exhausted and lighter than air for some reason. Until I looked down and saw that I was floating off the ground. When I saw myself in the mirror, I almost didn't recognize the person staring back at me since I had snow white hair and glowing green eyes..."He said, as he even made his eyes glow for emphasis.

"After that, I found that I could suddenly walk through walls, turn invisible, fly and later get to shoot lasers out my hands..."He added, showing her his open hands as if to demonstrate.

"I see..."Supergirl said, pondering as she observed his hands.

"Yeah, I mean, I think they're lasers. I usually just call them ghost rays..."Danny said, not sure how else to put it.

The Argonian girl was still processing what she heard, seeing one major design flaw.

"Hmm...I gotta say, technology to break the barriers into another dimension is impressive. But why would they invent a machine that advanced, while leaving the On switch inside it?..."Supergirl said, baffled that any good scientist that could make such advanced technology could makes such a simple mistake like that.

"Well, my parents, especially my dad can be pretty careless and have a bad habit of not thinking these things through or stop to realize glaring holes that would make OSHA ban him from even handling a spoon..."Danny said, looking embarrassed as he recalled previous flops that involved his well-meaning but somewhat insane parents.

Still, the blonde heroine found something interesting about this.

"Still, it's actually pretty impressive to be able to create a way to another world before even seeing a ghost. Your dad's probably got the greatest accidental achievement while being ignorant to what he actually made award for that..."She said, finding the situation rather amusing.

"Well, you're probably the first to say that. Everyone else thinks my parents are crackpots for even believing that ghosts were real, and that didn't exactly improve much even after they were proven to be real..."Danny said, sighing.

"If anything, it made people more uncomfortable with them since they pretty much got more reckless after that. It probably doesn't help that they shoot first and ask questions never...and that they have a bad habit of even blasting people wearing masks and bedsheet ghost costumes almost every Halloween, well... that's mostly what my Dad does but you get what I mean..."He said, looking sheepish to admit it.

Supergirl cringed.

"Okay, that does sound pretty embarrassing. But at least you have your parents around to embarrass you..."She said, looking down as she tried not show her sadness.

Danny seemed shocked to hear this while it took him a moment to process it.

"Right... her planet... Her parents..."He thought, unsure what to say next.

"So...Anyone I should know about, like who knows your secret?..."The blonde girl asked, though it was likely to change the subject.

The ghost boy smiled.

"There's my best friends, Sam Manson and Tucker Foley. Ever since that all happened, I became a super hero and try to keep my town safe from a bunch of ghostly maniacs with delusions of grandeur and too much free time on their hands..."Danny said, explaining it all like it was an everyday routine for him.

"Sounds like most of the bad guys we deal with here..."Supergirl said, as she could relate a lot with that sort of thing.

Her ghostly friend continued to explain the details.

"It isn't easy to manage on a daily basis. Thankfully, I had Tucker and Sam to have my back. They stuck by me and bailed me out of trouble more times than I can count. My sister also found out and has been helping too. Not to mention, they help with notes in class and pretty much...everything, really..."He said, looking up with a smile as he recalled his friends.

Hearing this made the blonde heroine smiled.

"They sound great. You sound like you've got quite the team..."She said.

"Yeah, sure do..."Danny said, as he remembered the fond memories made with all of them.

"Tell me more about them?..."Supergirl asked, leaning a bit closer.

Danny blushed slightly, before he continued to share some of his more details about his life on his Earth.

"Well, where to start..."He began, trying to think about where to start.

"Well, my older sister Jazz is pretty much a psychologist in training and once called herself an adult trapped in a teenagers body...meaning she likes thinking she's the most mature out of all of us, our parents included..."Danny said with a chuckle.

"Really?..."Supergirl asked, and the ghost boy nodded.

"Yeah, she basically likes acting like a mom more than a sister and constantly tries to takes charge whenever the rest of us do things she considers immature but she's actually really cool when she's not nagging or trying to prove that she's right about something. Honestly, I can't imagine my life as normal as it is without her in it..."He said, smiling a bit as he thought about her.

He then continued.

"As for my best friends...Tucker and Sam have been my best friends since kindergarten. .."Danny said, as he thought about them.

"Tucker is a techno geek who is obsessed with meat, anything related to tech and thinks he's some ladies man in the making, but most girls at our school would disagree. He is, however, smarter than he looks and knows it and can be little full of himself at times,, but he's also super loyal and is there to lend a hand to help and he tends to know what I find fun..."Danny said, smiling as he continued to explain who his friends are.

"My other best friend is Sam, she's an ultra recyclo-vegetatian..."He said.

"A what?..."Supergirl asked.

"That's just her fancy way of saying vegan...she really doesn't like using mainstream terms..."He said, while the blonde girl sent him a funny look before he continued.

"She's a goth, and always takes pride in her individuality, and she pretty much admits that she takes to anything mostly unpopular. She's also a huge nature lover and hates anything and anyone that abuses nature for their own selfish benefit. She can be a bit pushy and bossy at times, but her heart is in the right place and keeps ups on track. We always do everything together. We've done it since even before my powers..."Danny said, before sighing.

"I miss them..."He admitted, a look of longing and loneliness on his face.

Supergirl heard this and felt sympathetic to him.

"I can definitely relate to you on that feeling of longing..."She said, knowing what Danny must be going through right now.

She knew what it was like being on a different world that you are not familiar with...and unable to see the friends and family that you grew up with, all of them just vanish before you even realized it and being unable to see them again.

The only different is that Danny actually have a chance to go back to his home and see his loved ones again. While she doesn't really have that option, at least she has Kal-el and even managed to make some great friends here on Earth, like Jimmy and Barbara.

It lessened the pain, though it was never going away.

"I hope I'm doing my parents proud..."She thought, hoping with all her heart that they would be proud of her.

Seeing her lost in sad thoughts, Danny decided to speak up.

"So...uh...you said you are from another planet? Argen?..."He asked.

"Argon..."Supergirl said, looking down.

Danny felt like he might have insulted her home world. He tried to fix this.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you. It's just I've been answering your questions about my world, I kind of would like to learn about yours..."He said.

Supergirl let out a breath with a sad smile.

"My planet...well...when our sister planet Krypton, where Superman came from, was destroyed, it negatively affected out world, causing an ice age. I was the only one to survive in stasis..."She explained.

Danny felt a spike of guilt for how insensitive he brought it up, and also felt sorry for her.

"Oh, I...I'm sorry. I had no idea..."He said, feeling like he's overstepped boundaries.

Supergirl gave a sad sigh before smiling.

"It's fine...it's not like it's any real secret among the league. I know what happened and accepted it a long time ago, but it still hurts to think about my old home and parents being...just...gone like that..."Supergirl said, as she honestly looked sad about this fact.

"When I first woke up...it was a REALLY rough time for me but Superman helped me through it and I have something of a stable life now...but I'd be lying if I said that there weren't times that I miss my old life..."The blonde heroine said, trying hard not to cry as she thought about her past.

Hearing this made Danny feel sorry for bringing up such a sensitive topic.

"Stupid, I shouldn't have brought up her home planet so thoughtlessly like that. Oh well, there's no turning back now. Filing under do no mention again!..."He thought, hating how sad she was.

"I should ask more about her time on Earth. Maybe if she talks more about what makes her happy, she might feel better and be more open. It's worth a shot at least..."He thought, gambling his chances on cheering Kara up like how she did for him.

"So... what was it like, living on Earth with your cousin?..." Danny asked.

"He's not actually my cousin. Our worlds were sister planets and that was really more of a cover. All things considered, the family who took him in had no issue doing the same to me. Their cover story is that I'm his adoptive father's distant relative and I'm staying with them after I lost my parents. Despite that I'm an alien, they've been nothing by hospitable..."She explained, her mood lifting.

Danny smiled.

"They must be nice..."Danny said, and his friend nodded.

"Pa's been gracious, reminds me of my own father, only not as scientific..."The blonde heroine said, smiling warmly.

"Pa?..." Danny asked, recognizing that term being used by people of more rural settings.

"Uh... anyway!..." Kara went, not wanting to give a hint to her identity. "I sometimes help Superman out whenever there's trouble. It gets a little boring sometimes just sticking around on the fa- in the house..." She said, hiding her identity again.

"Supergirl... you know who I am. Plus, it's not like anyone I tell when I get back home would leak the info since I'm from another universe..." Danny said.

"I... guess so..." Kara admitted, but still wasn't sure.

Danny understood.

"Look, I won't make you tell me anything you're uncomfortable with...but just know that I can keep a secret...and you already know pretty much all of mine..."Danny said, trying to be gentle.

Hearing this calmed the blonde heroine a bit. Despite not being used to opening up like this, she felt that she could trust the ghost boy. Plus, like he said, she already knew his secrets and she doesn't plan on blabbing them.

She did feel like she could trust him. She sighed, before opening up.

"I live on a farm in Kansas. They're the family that took Kal-el in and they've been treating me like their own ever since I came here..."She explained.

"Huh... neat..."Danny said.

"Yeah, it's nice. Rustic compared to where I grew up, but it's comforting..."Supergirl said, as she began to recall her time on the Kent farm and her experiences with her adoptive guardians.

From there, she started to share more on her life on the Kent farm, minus the name that she asked Danny not to ask for now. They spoke for what felt like hours.

As they spoke, Danny felt a kind of kinship as he listened. He had never talked to another supernatural being living between two worlds, deepening the connection he felt with the girl.

As the hours went by, the ghost boy found himself smiling as they talked.

It was... pleasant...to say the least.

The Next Day

Danny woke up with a yawn, and saw that he was inside a bedroom that was not his own that had all the necessaries.

It took him a moment to remember what had transpired.

Yesterday, Supergirl had brought him here and said that he would be staying for the time being. Superman soon appeared and explained that this place belonged to a friend of there's who gave them permission to use it.

He also laid some ground rules, which basically amounted not leaving without permission and to not talk to the locals as much as possible. Considering what he's seen so far, he figured staying in close range of other superheroes might have been the better option.

"This new routine is gonna take some getting too. I just hope it won't have to stick..."He thought, rubbing his eyes.

Danny had some difficulty getting some sleep the night before, but eventually he did manage to get enough rest to not feel deprived of sleep for a change.

The fact he didn't have any ghostly visitors did help, but it was weird to wake up in a place that wasn't home. Still, the day was not going to move along doing nothing, and so he got up.

Instinctively going to the kitchen for food, Danny had just grabbed an apple and a glass of water.

"At least I know it's safe to eat the food here..." He said to himself.

He was halfway finished with his drink when he was greeted by a new familiar voice.

"Morning, sleepy head..."Was heard.

Danny yelped and turned around to see Supergirl floated above, dressed in her costume and smiling in amusement as she was literally looking down on him.

"How'd you get in here so fast?..."Danny asked, having not heard her at all.

"Duh, SUPERgirl...there's not that much that I can't do. You could even say that I could outfly a speeding bullet..."She said in a bragging way.

"Wow, they should start calling you the Girl of Modesty with that confidence..."Danny snarked, while she grinned at his snarky comeback.

"Then I guess I should share this special breakfast I brought with someone else..."Supergirl said, dangling the bag filled with things such as eggs, pancakes and other delicious foods in his face.

Its smell was intoxicating as the the ghost boy almost dropped his fruit.

"That does smell way better than what I'm eating now..."He admitted.

His mouth dropped with some drool beginning to pool inside, making the girl he's staying with laugh.

"I brought some breakfast. Here's hoping that you like sunny side eggs and pancakes..."She said kindly, as she served him some, using her superspeed to place all the food neatly on the table.

Danny smiled.

"Thanks..."He said in an appreciative way, as he took a seat

The Ghost Boy smelled the homemade breakfast meal and felt his stomach growl loud enough for the alien girl to hear. Knowing full well that Danny will devour it's contents in seconds.

"Hungry? Or is that apple enough?…"Supergirl smirked with keen eyes, her gaze making the boy blush in embarrassment as she heard him chuckle nervously.

The latter put down the fruit as she floated to the table, beckoning the boy with a finger to join her.

The two ate their breakfast with calming silence, that neither of them minded too much, since they both clearly enjoyed the meal and the company they had.

As he kept eating, Danny saw this mornings newspapers and he saw his picture in it. He sighed.

"So much for keeping a low profile..."He said as picked up the paper and saw what and who just made front page.

The title read "Metropolis's new hero: Danny Phantom. staying or visiting?...". Danny read, as saw the picture of him and Supergirl flying together and raised an eyebrow at what he just read

"As local hero, Supergirl, was ending a group of robbers, a new superhero came to help as he appeared out of thin air. Introducing himself as Danny Phantom, the citizens of Metropolis are already cheering at the increase in righteousness. But the questions about the ghost boy and perhaps his relation to the girl of steel are the bigger topic our surveys find..."Danny read out loud, noting how the article was written by some people by the names of Lois Lane and Clark Kent.

Looking over the ghost boy's shoulder, the girl of steel was seen smirking as she read silently and could recognize the style of the article and knew what it secretly meant.

"I guess Clark still has the leash on..."She thought, smirking.

She never noticed the blush on Danny's face as he read over the relationship part, but that did not mean she couldn't hear his rapid heartbeat.

"Something bothering you?…"Kara asked.

"Uh…no…well maybe…" The ghost boy put down the paper. "Honestly, I'm just glad the papers aren't against me…"He said, recalling the "Public Enemy #1" incident.

Before Kara could ask what he meant by that, Danny saw another paper fly by the window and picked it up to see that it was a discarded tabloid. He saw that it was most like one of the Daily Planet's competitors, only their words were not as…friendly.

"This just in, Danny Phantom competing with Supergirl for the right to be Superman's sidekick!?..."Danny read out loud, surprised by what the news just announced.

Kara heard this and laughed.

"Geez, those tabloid losers really will just about write anything to make a buck..."She commented, as she found what was written in the news a little funny at least.

Danny raised a brow.

"I'm assuming you have some history with the press..."He said.

"Let's just say that my cousin is more partial to the newspaper side of the Daily Planet than that mouthy Angela Chen. Mostly since unlike her little show Metropolis Today, they actually TRY and print the truth in their paper..."Supergirl said, rolling her eyes.

Before she could take another bite, her earpiece began beeping.

"You're still wearing that?..." Danny asked, raising a brow.

"Kind of have to at all times..." She said as she answered it.

"Yes?..."She asked, while the ghost boy looked on in curiosity.

It took seconds, but she was nodding along to what she head.

"Understood..."She said.

"What's going on?..."Danny asked.

Supergirl had finished listening in, before turning to her ghostly friend.

"We gotta go. We need to meet with the league..."Supergirl said.

"We do? But you and I just got back to Metropolis yesterday..."Danny said, surprised that Supergirl would be called back so soon.

"Never a moments rest in this profession, ghost boy..."Kara said before stuffing her pancake into her mouth.

"Wait, you said we. That means me too, right?..."Danny asked, pointing to himself.

"Yeah. They are requesting you too, Danny..."Supergirl said.

"Me? Why?..."Danny asked, before he got an idea. "You think that they finally got a hold of that Fate guy?..."He asked.

"Dr. Fate. And there's only one way to find out..."Supergirl said as she gestured for him to follow her.

"Uh... okay..." Danny said, following her to where they're going to get a ride back.

He just hoped that there has been any progress made to getting him sent back home.

Later

Danny and Super girl soon arrived at Metro Tower, a sort of ground base for the Justice League to be more down to Earth, in more ways than one.

There, they saw Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, The Green Lantern, Hawk Girl and Martian Manhunter waiting for them.

"Glad you made it..." Flash greeted.

Once the younger heroes were lead inside, the ghost boy asked the all important question.

"So?..."Danny began. "Why'd you call for us?..."He asked.

"Well, good news. I have finally managed to get in contact with Dr. Fate. He should be finished with his mission by tomorrow and he will be able to determine whether or not he'll be able to send you back to your home dimension..."J'onn explained.

"Really? Finally! I was almost convinced that he might never show up at all. Plus, getting a job here would've been a problem since I don't have a birth certificate here..."Danny said, relieved that he'll be home soon.

"Well, there's just one other thing..." Wonder Woman said.

"What is it?..."Danny asked, confused.

"We have a mission for you..."Batman said.

"For me?..."Danny asked, as he wasn't expecting to hear this today.

"Yes, we just got word of a situation. One that we believe your abilities will be of use in..."Wonder Woman explained.

"Really?..."Danny said.

"Yes, really. Don't worry, free donuts if you manage to succeed..."The Flash said with a cheeky grin.

"Really? Free donuts?..." Green Lantern asked, while the speedster shrugged.

"Well, no sense going home on an empty stomach..." Flash responded.

"So, what exactly do you need me to do?..."Danny asked, wondering what is going on here.

"We would need your invisibility, as well as your ability to walk through walls. The fact that you are still new to this world and not many know about you and what you are capable of is something we can use. The fact that they can't factor you into any of their plans or how to handle you with their security system, which will give us an advantage..."Batman explained.

"In other words, you're too recent for them to know about...which is something that we can use..."Shayera said, not liking how Batman worded it.

"I...see..."Danny said, not sure how to respond to that.

"What do say Danny? Want a shot at a real league mission?..."Supergirl asked, hoping that they weren't asking too much from him.

The ghost boy thought about it and pieced it together. He considered his options here.

"These guys are helping me get home...plus, they were the ones giving me a place to eat and sleep. It's not like I don't owe them anything..." He thought.

"Well, when you put it like that, how can I refuse..."Danny said, thinking that this was the least could for all of them after they've been helping him so much.

"Good answer. We'll make sure you get home safely as soon as Fate is back..."Green Lantern said, thankful for his assistance on this mission.

"Is it just me or is someone else on this trip?..."Supergirl asked, curious.

"We'll be taking this mission, along with S.T.R.I.P.E. and Green Arrow as backup. This is also a sort of training mission. You, Supergirl, Speedy and Stargirl will be helping as support and try to draw away any attention from where you need to go, while we advance through the front and you go from behind..."Superman said.

"Stargirl?!..."Both Danny and Supergirl exclaimed upon hearing that name, surprised that she'll be accompanying them on this mission.

"She insisted on joining the mission and wanted to get more involved. Plus, S.T.R.I.P.E.'s can be useful in keeping her in line, among other things..."Superman said, trying to be fair and non bias as one of the Justice League's founding members.

Supergirl sighed.

"Why am I not surprised that she'd butt into another one of my missions?..."She thought, annoyed.

Although he didn't want to have to deal with her again, Danny knew he had a mission and a favor to return.

"Okay, let's get this over with and save as many people as we all can. Sooner we finish, sooner I can have a pizza with my friends and talk about this whole adventure..."Danny said, trying to both be and sound professional on his first mission.

"Good. Now listen closely, you'll each play a crucial role on this mission. I don't enjoy repeating myself, so take notes if you have to..."Batman said, as he began to explain the mission, their roles and what they all would have to do.

All the while, Danny did his best to focus and not mess up, since this went be his first...and probably his last mission with Supergirl and the Justice League.

With any luck, he'll be home soon...or at least that's what he hopes.
