Chapter 4: Classes

Once upon a time, Harry Potter was asleep. He woke up late and had to rush to classes without breakfast. Just kidding, he was woken up by two boys shooting each other with silly string. Harry was mad. He was woken up by two eleven-year-olds that acted like they were five.

Harry looked over at the clock which was on his bedside table and sighed. It was currently 5 in the morning. Harry guessed he wasn't going to get any more sleep that day so he went to the bathroom and took a quick shower before he had to go to breakfast in two hours. Harry was still mad as he got out of the shower because it was still 6 AM. He decided it would be good to spend his time studying his classes.

"Stop acting like Esel. Get ready you idiots." Harry grumbled as he got his Dark Arts book out.

He flipped the pages to where he left on page 117. He began to read an interesting chapter that focused on power in spells.

Chapter 19: Power of Magic in Shields

Power can be shown in magic in many different ways. It can be in Charms or Transfiguration. Most students at Durmstrang will not have Transfiguration until their third year when they begin to have better control over their magic. All students however all trained and groomed to be proficient in the Art of Defense and Dark Arts.

Shields are efficient for defending yourself. The reasons shields work and are great for defense are quite complicated. It's not complicated Arithmancy that I'm talking about. The way shields work is that a portion of your magic is pushed out of your body through your wand which is like what lightning is to a lightning rod. The lightning is drawn to the rod. It works similarly to that except your magic is pushed out instead of coming in.

Your magic forms a curved wall. The wall is thick enough so that spell hits it and gets trapped by the curve of the wall that links together and traps it. It quickly destroys the magic and intent that was put into the spell. The wall is quickly formed again except it is thinner. The magic gets sapped out of you. You can't feel a bit of it anymore because the energy was used when blocking the spell.

Similar to muggle electricity after it is used a bit there is less of it. It takes longer to produce magic than electricity because it takes nutrients from your body and creates energy that takes the form of magic. You can strengthen the wall by pushing more magic into the wall, but eventually, it will run out as your magic if left out for a long time is released into the atmosphere.

Harry thought it was a very interesting chapter and concept. He was very interested in learning more about the topic in general. Harry was surprised they knew about muggle things like electricity. Most magical German households had electricity in their houses though so it made sense.

He looked at the clock and put his book away. It was time to get to Breakfast. Harry got the other two boys and began walking to the dining hall. It was a few minutes later that they made it to the hall. They had explored the day before in preparations for classes so they wouldn't be late. It was 7:30 PM meaning they had an hour to eat which was more like 40 minutes since they needed to get to class and get their book bag.

It was around half an hour later that Harry began to wait for Max and Karl to finish eating. He was already full and energized for the day ahead of them. They finally finished about 5 minutes later and began to head over to the hidden place they found where they had stashed their book bags in.

Harry grabbed his bag and slung it over his shoulder and began to go to the third floor where the General Spells classroom. They walked with relative silence with only their footsteps being heard from the cold stone floor. They walked through the door that was the entrance to the classroom. They picked some seats at the center of the classroom so they wouldn't be noticed, but at the same time were able to pay attention.

"Welcome class, today is your first class of the year. Since you don't know me, how about some introductions? My name is Alexandra Castillo. I grew up in Spain where I went to Beauxbatons before I got a Mastery in General Spells. I then became a teacher here 3 years ago." She said with a smile as she walked in.

Professor Castillo was wearing gray robes that matched the stone floor. She was arguably good looking and was fairly young for a teacher. Harry was starting to enjoy the class as she began to tell them about General Spells. She was quite hyper and upbeat which helped the class to stay awake.

"General Spells isn't just any type of spell. It is a broad spectrum when you think about it. In this class you will learn Charms and basic Transfiguration which will help you shall you choose Transfiguration as an elective in your third year." Castillo said with a smile as she began to write on the white board.

She then taught them a color changing charm which would change the color of the targeted object. She then gave them a paper with questions which they were supposed to answer from the book of spells they had. After 40 more minutes of practice the large church bells rang out signifying the end of class.

"She's great at teaching." Karl said with a grin.

"I know she must be great at so many other things." Max said with the same grin which was mischievous.

"Fucking perv." Harry muttered under his breath.

"Oh come on Clara is like the same age as her. It's not like you haven't been around beautiful women." Max said, looking annoyed.

"Your point?"

"I. . .I don't know." Max said with a shrug, clearly not expecting the question.

"Then shut up idiot." Harry said.

"Are you guys friends or not?" Karl asked, finally cutting in.

"Bro you aren't friends unless you insult each other." Max said as Harry nodded in agreement.

"You guys are actually kinda right." Karl said with a grin.

"Well no shit when have you seen friends not be cruel to each other." Harry said.

"Fair point."

They walked across the school to cooking class. The class was right next to the dining hall and was connected to the kitchen. The kitchen was quite modern looking with fridges and microwaves in there. They were surprised that the muggle appliances worked since magic tampered with electricity. After asking Professor Kaminska how they worked she said there were wards that formed a shield around them that protected them.

Professor Kaminska taught them the proper technique of knife holding. Harry struggled a bit because he wanted to hold the knife like a serial killer. They did however receive a cookie each for their hard work which Professor Kaminska said would happen a lot if they did a good job.

They went to lunch in the dining hall where hundreds of owls swooped in and delivered letters and the Weltweites Nachrichtennetzwerk or Worldwide News Network. The three boys quickly gave a Euro to the owl and took their news. Harry's eyes widened as he looked at the headlines.

The MEU Kicks Out the UK!

The MEU or Magical European Union has decided to kick the United Kingdom out of the Union. That's right, the United Kingdom has been kicked out after a vote in the Parlement of European Nations. Out of the 27 European countries only 13 voted in favor of the British while 14 voted against. A few of the countries that voted against them are Germany, Poland, Denmark, France, Norway, Spain, and Italy.

Surprisingly the Soviet Union has voted in favor of the British. It makes sense because the Soviet Union is on the verge of collapse and needs foreign aid. They need it especially after the few wars that plagued them in the last 5 years and after the German invasion of the Baltics, Ukraine, and Belarus.

Things Are Heating Up in England

After the removal of the British from the MEU large political rallies have started in the streets of Diagon Alley. People are even calling for Minister Fudge to declare war on the Alliance. Fudge hasn't spoken on the matter as of yet, but there are more concerning problems in Magical Britain. Lots of popularity has been rising for a new party in Magical Britain that calls themselves the Knights of Blood.

There is even evidence of them being fascists which has caused lots of national unity in Germany, Russia, and France who all hate the fascists even though they were all once fascist. Even though the Russians weren't fully fascist most of their population was under fascist control at some point.

Harry continued to read and was shocked that they might even strike soo. This was a serious problem that was happening in Europe while the other non-European nations were looking at Europe peacefully. They were probably thinking they were never going to Europe because of all the political tension.

Nobody even knew how or why the vote even started in the first place. The only thing they knew was that the representative of Croatia created it. When looking back on his history there weren't even signs that it was for his own agenda nor did he want anything to do in Britain.

"That is insane." Max said as he took a sip of juice.

"I know…like how does that even happen. How stupid can you be to support the fascists." Karl said while a few other first years nodded. Harry and a few older students nearby didn't because there were many reasons.

"They are desperate. They've had incompetent leaders for the past few decades. They are in a war torn nation that has gone through a long decade of death and destruction which caused the deaths of 200 thousand people. The majority of their population is lower to middle class and are suffering due to economic downfall in Britain. Suddenly these people come promising wealth and great fortune to all the people and they have lots of support. Especially after the United Kingdom was kicked out of the MEU." Harry explained to them which was received by nods from the seventh years.

"It's a bit like the rise of Hitler," Harry continued."Hitler joined the NSDAP and became chancellor of Germany after promising lots of things which he did give to the people which gave him lots of support."

"Hitler is bad though he didn't do that." A small first year said.

"He is bad and did bad things, but he did increase their economy and improve the lives of Germans. Mainly the Aryans, but he did improve their lives." Max said to the kid. They weren't defending Hitler they were just correcting that Hitler didn't improve the lives of German citizens.

"The fuck is wrong with Europe. The exact same thing is happening each damn decade in the magical world. There have been 10 wars in Europe the past decade with one lasting 10 years. The Soviets were desperate after the invasion and are probably going to collapse then reunite after a leader promises lots of things." Karl said in annoyance.

"Most likely." Harry said with a nod of the head."Man, where has the world gone where children are now worrying about politics."

"I don't know. Honestly ever since the war in England finished Europe has been a blood bath. I'm confused. How did Magical Europe gain population? They gained 30 million people in the last decade. There is currently a baby boom of 10 million so far born." A seventh year student said. He was called Arka and was from Finland.

They then began to forget that conversation and began to tell jokes and laugh. They were told of the first time Max saw a Muggle map of Europe. He was shocked that France had Alsace-Lorraine plus he was shocked that Germany didn't own eastern Prussia and Posen.

In the magical world European countries looked as if it was 1913. That was if you didn't look to the east or south in the Balkans. Germany still had their borders before the first World War. They didn't change because muggle wars didn't affect the magical ministries.

The group of 1st year Wolverines stood up and walked to Dark Arts class where they would meet their head of house. Dark Arts was on the ground floor and right in front of the stairs to the Wolverine common room. They entered the classroom and claimed a few seats at the front of the class because they were told to pay attention to class because Professor Melkov would randomly quiz you on something they were learning. They also just wanted to learn more about curses and how to defend yourself.

Professor Melkov told them they would only be learning defensive spells in the second half of the year or after Christmas. Harry didn't really care as they would still be learning about spells and the history of simple defensive spells. They would also learn about deadly magical creatures.

They went to potions class after DA was over. Professor Garcia was nice and was a great teacher from Spain. Overall potions class was quite fun as they had a small discussion on how to cut magical ingredients.

History was boring to say the least since the professor looked to be on the verge of death and was basically deaf. They even tried yelling at him and he still didn't hear it. They literally had to write questions on a piece of parchment so he could read and understand it. Overall his classes were great and fun except for the final class which was history.
