Chapter 19: Breakfast in Bed
1 Year Later
I took a year doing acting, and film. I hadn't become one of the most famous, but a definitely rising star of Gotham as of late. It was time to take a break, after I'd been making and saving money this whole time, and living in Bruce's beautiful penthouse. It was also taking awhile to rebuild his mansion, brick for brick, just like how it was.
Bruce and I were no longer fake dating for the public anymore. That ship has long sailed and off into oblivion and I was left single. Alone. Sad. Broken. Life had no meaning for me right now. I felt empty. I didn't like the chains that were holding me down to this prison planet anymore. I had a few on screen romances, on and off with other Hollywood movie stars, but then they fizzled out. Most of the time I just felt used whenever I was in a relationship and it left me uncomfortable.
Nothing in my life made sense anymore. I had more than enough to get my own apartment now, and out of the Narrows too. I could live in a place like Lieutenant Gordon had. I could have it pretty good. But the penthouse was lovely, and I wasn't ready to give up my own double life. An actress. And then me who just wanted to find her place in this kind of world that Gotham lived in.
There was a knock at my door.
Alfred.
I woke up and allowed him to come in.
I could smell his delicious pancakes and scrambled eggs right through that door.
"Good morning," he said.
"Morning. MMm, having breakfast in bed is what I'm going to miss the most when I leave this beautiful penthouse Alfred," I said with a laugh.
"Well, who knows, stay much longer, and-"
"I know, I know," I stopped him from midjoke. "I don't think that would be a wise thing right now. He's not even here is he?"
"Afraid not, so it's double breakfast for you, madam," he said, giving me a small smile and left it on my bench at the end of my bed.
"Thank you Alfred. I appreciate all of what you've done for me," I said sincerely. "Truly."
"You're still my favorite house guest. You clean up after yourself even when you're lazy," he grinned at me.
I laughed. "Can't have you do all the work, Alfred. Even butlers need days off."
"Not today," he smiled. "Would you like to go with me to the bat cave after breakfast?"
"I'm allowed to go?"
"I don't see why not. He'll just kill you right after."
"Haha," I said with a roll of my eyes. "Or who knows, maybe I'll become a vigilante too, if my friend uh, doesn't find out who my long lost brother is."
"In due time, Miss Blake, in due time."
"I somehow get the feeling we have two of the same last names,"
"Oh?"
I laughed. "Yes. I did some digging of my own. And Batman's not the only vigilante out there. I mean I haven't been hopping on rooftops at night lately catching bad guys, but I know the scary ones are now being just as theatrical these days. Like clowns," I shuddered. "I hate clowns."
"I know, you've told me. I suspect that's why you haven't moved out yet aside from my great hospitality services," he said.
"You suspect correct," I said, becoming all serious. "Does that make me a coward?"
"It makes you smart," he reminded me.
"Ah, but well behaved women seldom make history," I added.
"Do you want to make history or do you want to live?" he asked.
That was a good question…. Damn I hated it when Alfred presented me good questions like that, especially when they hurt my head.
"I'll be out after breakfast, Alfred."
"With an answer?"
"Maybe. All in due time," I teased him right back. He chuckled and walked out of my room so I could have a little privacy. That was a good question. Did I want to live or did I want to make history?
Right now I wanted to live and eat these delicious pancakes and extra scrambled eggs for breakfast because I was starving.
