A low rumble thundered across the valley, threatening rain, and dark clouds hovering menacingly over the mountains. The sound of loud laughing and curse-filled humor hung in the night air as Bae and Emma lay hidden in the brush in the close White Kingdom palace. In front of them, are several guards occupying, the pride of Evil Queen. The carriage is parked outside of the palace and a lone soldier leaned against the hood of the carriage, oblivious to any danger, his sword hung over his shoulder.
"What the hell, man, just take a piss and go inside," Bae muttered as he gazed at the guard. His hair was hidden underneath a black old worn-out hat. He glanced to his left and winced. "Sorry, Ems," he said. His dark eyes turned back to stare at the soldier as he stretched out his body flat against the ground.
Emma lifted her head just a little to look at the guard. Emma had just barely got her eyes above the brushes when Bae hand reached out and pushed her head back down.
"What the hell are you doing?!"
"Having a look, Bae. I know this place, it's my home," Emma whispered as she swatted away Bae's hand.
"If he had been looking this way …" Bae set out a frustrated sigh with Emma.
Emma stuck out her tongue at how rudely she was being treated. She's also wearing a worn-out hat, but it was insufficient to hide the unruly curls that peaked out.
"I'm going to take the bastard if he doesn't move."
"Can I?"
Bae glared at Emma and shook his head. He parted some brushes so they can have a look at the guard. They watched the soldier stubbornly stays near the carriage and at the front gate. Emma resisted the urge to groan in frustration as the guard looked around and looked out into the valley beyond. Bae sat up extremely careful not to be seen from the windows of the White Kingdom. He glanced at the palace before turning attention to the reason they were here. The important head of guards and several people are being carried out of the White Kingdom. He investigated the size of the carriage, but it was too low for him to hold onto it with the help of Emma. He shook his head and Emma looked at him with concern.
"What's the matter?"
"The carriage is too low; I can't get under," Bae whispered and pointed to the carriage where there's rope below that you can hold onto the wheels. Emma lifted her head and focused on the carriage then the sword he was holding on his shoulder. She grabbed the sword, "I can go under the stand in the back instead of being underneath as I did many times before hiding from my parents to get away from here. They will never notice me."
"No, you will get killed and I made a promise to your mama to protect you."
"Now, why would you do a stupid thing like that?" Emma hissed about the promise and protection, stupid man. "I am part of this, Bae; you keep forgetting that."
"I haven't forgotten and that's why you're out here with me, but …"
Well, I don't see you making another idea, Bae. Emma glared at Bae, "we want this to happen, right?"
"Yes."
"Unless you want me to go inside and set fire in the palace, then that would be the easiest thing to do!"
"No, we are not doing that. That's not our mission."
"Right, tell me what I have to do."
Bae heavily sighs and glances down at the sword and the guards and several important royalties start walking out to leave, people who worked for the Evil Queen.
"Fine! You go back to the carriage and hide, then wait until near the edge of the White Kingdom. First, you take care of the horses then you get them trapped."
"That's what you come in, you'll meet me there?"
"Yes, we both will trap them and make it look like it was forest killing them."
Emma took the sword and started to crawl out of the brushes. She was hidden from view from the window for a good portion of the way under the carriage when the guard walked up to open the door for the royals. She waited a moment until the guard that had his back to her moved. She quickly crawled near the back of the carriage and hid perfectly, holding one of her legs to the wheels. with the sword on her back. She closed her eyes and tried to calm her galloping heart when the royals and top guard loaded into the carriage, she could hear their faint talking. The people barely spotted Emma hidden below in the back until the child waved at her with a smile and a puzzling look then Emma shushes the child.
When they reach near the end of the White Kingdom, she crawls to the very top of the carriage, cautiously and quietly so the guard doesn't turn around. She grabs her small knife from her boot pocket and put it in her mouth instead of Bae's sword while wishing she has her own. She doesn't see anyone except the hole in the dirt with a wood trunk blocking the pathway, this is it, Emma. She flattened herself on the top when the guard spotted the trunk, but didn't see the hole. He was too late when he pulled in to stop the horses when the front wheel dropped into the holes, Emma took her small knife from his mouth until realizes she couldn't kill the man, so instead she knocked him out by slamming his head heard with her knife.
She hears the murmuring of the royals, concerned about why they are stopping. Emma saw several men with arrows and shot the royals perfectly through the forehead. Bae helped Emma down from the carriage, "oh, god, Ems," Bae whispered and smothered her in an embrace. "Are you all right?"
Emma flashed a triumphant grin, "my fingers nearly made my heart stop."
Bae leaned in and kissed her on the cheek, but before he could say anything else, the five operatives watched and cheered as the men went into the carriage to take some things.
"Good job, boys," Bae drew his sword high to cheer them then glanced up to the sky, it was almost midnight. "One good thing about them, they are punctual."
"Hope there is a nice demon waiting for them in hell," she muttered.
"Amen," Bae replied and crossed himself. "Come on, Emma, I promised your mama you will be back home safe and before midnight."
You and your promises," Emma rolled her eyes as Bae ruffled her hair. They fled away from the fire when the boys lit the carriage.
