Hey everyone. Welcome to chapter 3. It is a little hard doing this series since I have to rewatch dragon ball to know what the hell i'm writing. I hope you can all understand. But this series isn't dead. Far from it… though it would be more accurate to say it's got a weak immune system… But alive nonetheless.
Now again, a lot of Dragon Ball will be skipped, as this will only have minor changes. So please keep that in mind when reading.
So I hope you enjoy it, and thank you for the support.
Last time on Dragon Ball ZMX, Goku had said farewell to the friends he made on his journey, and returned to his home to tell his mother and grandfather about all the amazing places and people he saw on his adventures. Before leaving once more to be trained by Master Roshi, the Turtle Hermit who trained his grandfather.
Though Gine was sad to see her son leave just after coming home, she knew this was what he wanted, and so allowed him to do so. So after a long heartfelt goodbye, Goku set off on the Flying Nimbus and headed towards Kame House, the Turtle Hermit's home on a remote island.
As he was landing, he grabbed all the things his mother had packed for him as he jumped off the Nimbus. "Hello? Master Roshi?" He called out. "I'm here!" He then looked to the door as nobody answered. "Huh, that's weird. Where is he?" he wondered out loud.
As he went to the window, he heard a woman's voice. "That's it, kick those legs, one two, one two, one two."
Roshi was just chuckling to himself as he was watching a women's workout show. "Ah aerobics, a gift from the heaven's themselves…" he chuckled.
"Goku smiled as he saw the Turtle Hermit. "There he is!" he said happily as he jumped through the window. "Master Roshi, I'm here for training!" he said excitedly. But Roshi paid him no mind. "Master?" still nothing. So Goku decided to take a deep breath, and with all his might, screamed at the top of his lungs. "MASTER ROSHI!" scaring the old martial arts master.
"W-what is it?" he asked in shock.
"I came for you to teach me." Goku explained.
Roshi sighed. "Can't you see I'm in the middle of my morning exercises?" he asked as he went back to watching the show.
Goku sighed but decided to wait. Only for his stomach to grumble. "Master, I'm kinda hungry."
"Huh? Oh, just… the fridge is in the kitchen. Find whatever you like…" Roshi spoke, pointing to the kitchen, barely paying attention.
Goku didn't really know what a fridge was, but he saw a big box and looked inside of it, and was amazed to see so much food inside it. Of course it wasn't going to stay that way for long.
Meanwhile, the show had finished, and Roshi had a big grin on his face, before getting up and stretching. Of course, he was shocked when he walked to the kitchen to see Goku had eaten everything. "M-My food?! You ate everything, even my last stick of butter?!"
Goku just gave a chuckle. "Hehe, it was really good!"
Roshi sighed. "Look kid, why did you come here again?"
"Don't you remember? You offered to train me." Goku said with a smile as he got up and went out to grab his stuff.
"Ah right. Training." Roshi sighed as he looked around outside a little. "So… where is that lady friend of yours? Did you bring her?" he asked in an excited tone.
"Oh, you mean Bulma? No, she left with the rest of our friends. They are probably back in the big city by now." Goku explained, not knowing how wrong he currently was, but that was a different story altogether.
Roshi had a look of disappointment. "Ah well… you know martial arts training isn't easy, right?" Roshi asked.
"Of course not. I know I will have to work hard if I want to be stronger than you." Goku nodded.
"Hehe, well maybe the first lesson should be on your manners." Roshi chuckled. "But… before we start, how about you bring me a gal." he said with a mischievous smirk.
"A… gal?" Goku asked in confusion.
"A gal! You know, a girl!" Roshi explained.
"Oh, okay." Goku nodded as he went to get ready to leave.
Goku had managed to find a few girls, of course him being the innocent boy he was, he didn't really understand what the hermit was asking. He had some basic knowledge due to his mom and Grandpa teaching him about boys and girls. But he was still a little young to know about what the Turtle Hermit wanted.
Roshi was a little annoyed, but he wanted to make the most of that dogooder turtle being away. However, another young boy came along. A bald boy by the name of Krillin. He had asked to be made into Roshi's student, and when Roshi said he didn't just take on every child that came to his island, Krillin had offered him a dirty magazine, and Roshi instantly agreed. His one condition was to help Goku find a pretty girl.
Thankfully for Roshi, Krillin knew exactly the kind of girl Roshi wanted. Of course there was a bit of trouble since Krillin was unable to ride the Nimbus, and so they came to the solution of him, much to his embarrassment, riding on Goku's back.
They were flying over a cavern, as Goku then heard what sounded like a girl screaming for help. Krillin wanted to stay clear, but Goku insisted on going in. Of course Krillin was afraid of going up against guys with guns, but it wasn't really any trouble for Goku. When he beat the two men, who turned out to be police officers, Goku suggested Roshi might like to meet Launch, to which Krillin more than agreed too.
So with the girl in hand, they made their way back to Kame House. Launch was confused, but thought living on an island with the boys who saved her sounded nice. Launch thought the house looked lovely, but Krillin was still getting used to the pink.
When Roshi got a look at her, he was really excited, and was more than willing to take the two as his student's. He decided to offer Launch a chance to be his student, just as an excuse for her to stay there.
Just then as they were talking, they heard a very deep voice call out. "MASTER ROSHI!"
"Huh, wait, I know that voice." Goku said as they all turned to where it came from.
In the distance, they saw what looked to be a hover car, with a very large man in it.
Krillin was screaming the second he saw the man. "W-who the heck is that?!"
Goku however just started laughing. "Hehe, it's the Ox King!"
"Huh, I wonder what he is doing here…" Roshi said in confusion.
"Um… excuse me, Master Roshi, but do you know him?" Launch asked.
"Oh, well you see, he and Goku's grandfather, Gohan, used to be my old student's." Roshi explained.
Krillin was surprised by this. He turned to Goku, shocked to hear that his grandfather was the famous Gohan. He was probably just as legendary as Roshi in the martial arts world. And this goofy kid was his grandson?!
When the hover car landed down on the island, Ox King excitedly got out and bowed to Roshi. "Master! It is so good to see you again!"
"Um… You too, Ox. But… what brings you here?" Roshi asked.
Just then, Chichi came out of the car. "Daddy brought us here so I could ask you to train me!" she said in a determined voice. Only to blush when she saw Goku.
Krillin was even more surprised now. "W-wait, what?" he wasn't expecting this really cute girl to be the daughter of… a giant like the Ox King.
Roshi however, was skeptical. First because he wasn't keen on getting another axe blade to the head from her, but also… "Hmm… I'm not quite sure you are the type for martial arts training."
This made Chichi angry as she had a look of rage on her face. "DON'T YOU DARE JUDGE ME BEFORE GIVING ME A CHANCE!" She shouted before stomping the ground. In doing so, she caused the whole island to shake.
Ox King just chuckled at this. "Hehe, she is really spirited, Master."
Roshi just had a nervous look. "Well… I can see she got something from you after all…" Krillin hid behind Roshi, scared of this crazy strong girl now. "Well… I suppose I can give it a chance, but… why?"
"Well, I was amazed when I saw you use the Kamehameha Wave. And I wanted to learn more about it." Chichi answered. Before turning to Goku with a blush. "Also…"
Roshi chuckled as he understood. "Hehe, I understand, little missy. You got it." He said with a wink.
Chichi had a very happy look on her face, while Ox King scooped Roshi into a hug. "Oh thank you, Master! I can't begin to tell you how grateful I am!"
Roshi just chuckled and assured his disciple that he would train her well. Though now he couldn't do his idea for the sexy aerobic leotards for Launch to wear, as he was afraid the young Chichi would be less than happy. His head still hurt when she chuckled the axe blade on her helmet at his head.
Though he later learned that was for the best, when eventually, they all got acquainted with Launch's other half. She seemed to really hate pigheaded men. Chichi she seemed cool with, but the others had to be careful not to make angry, since she always seemed to have a gun out of nowhere. Of course it did help as extra training.
When the training started, it was pretty difficult, as it left them with lots of hard work. Running around wearing heavy shells, while delivering milk. Plowing fields…. The bees… It was easier for Goku and Chichi then it was for Krillin, given Goku's saiyan dna allowed him to adapt to it, while Chichi inherited her fathers strength, Krillin was just an ordinary human however, and so had a lot of difficulty. But he had his fellow student's to rely on through it all, and the three of them became close friends over time.
Months went by, and Roshi had called them all forward. They were excited when he had told them it was time to move on to the real training. They were shocked to learn they hadn't really started, but were excited to finally learn some combat training. Chichi and Krillin had both also mellowed out a little, thanks to the discipline that came with martial arts.
Meanwhile, back at the city, Bulma and the others had eventually made it back, and Yamcha had been living with Bulma. They hadn't gotten together though. Not for the lack of trying. But Bulma for some reason just… didn't feel like a relationship with Yamcha. The bandit was disappointed, but respected her decision. She was at least willing to help him with his fear of girls, so he was grateful to her.
When they got word that the world martial arts tournament was coming soon, Yamcha decided to leave and get some training done as well. He had wanted to participate in it for a long time, and wanted to be ready.
Bulma was a little annoyed that he just up and left to train. But it wasn't like he was her boyfriend, so he didn't really need to let her know about these kinds of things.
Bulma had often thought about Goku. That silly monkey boy she traveled with really left an impact on the girl. There was so much about him that was a mystery. She had gone to the island to visit him, only to be shocked that they were gone. House and all. She was hopeful that he was alright.
When the training progressed, Roshi had the kids take off their shells, and the second they did, they instantly noticed how light they felt.
"Wow! I feel like I'm made of paper!" Goku chuckled.
Killing nodded. "Yeah. I never felt this light before."
"W-wow… this is… amazing!" Chichi said in a stupefied tone.
The three students then jumped to see just how light they were, and were shocked that they jumped into the air.
"Oh, and I almost forgot!" Roshi said as he had presented his students with their own turtle school gi. Chichi was very excited about this, as she had seen that her father had a set just like this, although it was far too small for him now. But even still, to know that her father wore something like this made her surge with joy.
"I'm going to go change!" She said excitedly as she grabbed the gi and ran inside. When she went to another room to change, she took her helmet off and looked at it. "You've helped me out so much. But… it's time to move forward." she said sadly as she put it aside, and began to change into her new gi. When she finished, she looked at herself in a mirror, and smiled. This was the beginning of a whole new journey for her.
When night began to fall, Chichi went to the edge of the beach. She and the others had been learning a lot about combat, but Roshi had yet to teach them about ki manipulation. She remembered seeing Roshi unleash his kamehameha wave, and destroyed Castle Ox. And mere minutes after, Goku had managed to use it.
Remembering this, she got into the stance the best she could remember. Of course she had no idea what to do next. She usually only shot beams with her helmet.
"What are you doing?" came the voice of Goku.
Chichi jumped in fright. "G-Goku? I was just… trying to do the kamehameha…" she said in embarrassment.
"Oh, well I could help." Goku said with a smile.
"R-really?" a smile spread across Chici's face.
"Yeah. You should be more like this." Goku then began to adjust Chici's stance, causing Chichi to turn beat red, embarrassed at Goku touching her. "So now you gotta dig deep into yourself. Find your energy, and then pull it in your hands. It feels kinda weird, but it's how I do it." he explained with his trademark goofy grin. He then took the stance and demonstrated. Energy then began to form in his hands.
Chichi nodded, as she tried to visualize her energy, and tried to do as Goku did. She felt like water was flowing through her, as she began to guide it to her hands, as suddenly, an orb of energy appeared between them. Chichi's eyes lit up with excitement. It wasn't as big as the one Goku made, but that didn't matter. "I-I did it! I did it, Goku!" she said excitedly.
"That's great, Chichi! I knew you could!" Goku chuckled. This made Chichi smile more at him, so grateful for his help.
The day soon came for them to leave. But before they did so, Launch came forward. She had blue hair so that meant everyone was safe. "Before you all leave, I wanted to give you three something." She said with a sweet smile. She held out a box.
When they opened it, they saw three snazzy outfits. Two suits, a dress, and three hats.
"Wow! They are so beautiful!" Chichi said with a starry eyed look.
"Did you make these, Launch?" Krillin asked as he looked up at her.
Launch blushed with a look that showed how happy she was that they liked them. "Yes, I did."
"Hehe, I never wore one of these before!" Goku chuckled as he put the suit on.
Krillin chuckled as he looked at Goku.
"What's so funny, Krillin?" Chichi asked.
"The fact that Goku is in a suit." Krillin said with a smirk.
Chichi huffed. "Well I think he looks very handsome."
Goku tilted his head at them. "What are you talking about?"
Chichi's entire face turned red. "N-nothing!" Krillin just smirked at Chichi, knowing exactly what was going on.
After that, they all went to the nearest airport to fly to Papaya Island, where the tournament is often held. Launch decided to stay at Kame House, to make sure the place was kept nice while they were gone, and to not cause trouble if she accidentally sneezed again. It was a long and grueling flight to Papaya Island, and Goku spent the majority of it sleeping. Krillin was nervous, while trying to act confident. But Chichi was excited. It was a chance to try out all she had worked towards.
When they finally landed, Goku was amazed as he had never seen so many people. Goku just chuckled at how Goku was looking at aliens. For some reason, he had a strange feeling of irony.
While master Roshi was signing the three of them up for the tournament, Goku heard a familiar voice. "Hey, Goku!" the voice called out.
Goku turned, and had a surprised look as he saw a man with short hair. "Huh? Who are you?"
The man smirked as he did a very familiar pose. "This jog your memory?" he asked the young boy.
"Yamcha!" Goku said happily. "I didn't recognize you! Did your hair fall off?"
Yamcha had an embarrassed chuckle. "Bulma thought it would be easier for me to get a girlfriend if I cut my hair. She said long hair was out." Goku just titled his head, not knowing what that meant.
Krillin went up in confusion. "Uh… who's this guy?"
Chichi however had a happy look. "Hey I know you. You were also helping my father look for me!"
Yamcha was surprised. "Wait… aren't you the Ox King's daughter?"
Chichi nodded. "That's right! I decided to train under Master Roshi too!"
"Seriously? That's pretty amazing! So the three of you trained together?" Yamcha asked.
"That's right. My name is Krillin." Krillin nodded.
"Well it's nice to meet a friend of Goku." Yamcha said as he shook Krillin's hand.
"Hey, Yamcha, did you finish signing up!" Asked Bulma as she, Puar, and Oolong came over, only to be surprised to see Goku. "Goku! You're here!" she said happily.
"Looking snazzy there, kid." Oolong chuckled as he saw Goku in a suit.
"Hehe, thanks, Oolong." Goku chuckled as he was happy to see his friends again.
Chichi smiled seeing Goku was happy to see his friends again. Only to hear a voice call her. "Chichi!"
When she turned around, she had a big smile on her face. "Daddy!" she said, seeing the Ox king was there as she ran up to hug him.
The Ox King was more than happy to see his daughter as he scooped her up into a big hug. But as he hugged her, he noticed something was… different. "Wow! You've gotten strong. Your hug feels different." he chuckled.
"Huh? Really?" Chichi asked in surprise. She did notice she bulked up a little. But she didn't know it would be that noticeable of a change.
"Hehe, yeah! Where is the master? I want to thank him for taking good care of you." Ox chuckled.
"He went to sign us up for the tournament." Goku answered. Only to be surprised when someone from behind scooped him up into a big hug.
"My baby boy!" Gine said happily.
"Mom!" Goku said excitedly as he hugged back. He then looked behind her, and saw Gohan. "Grandpa! You're here too!"
Gohan chuckled. "We wouldn't miss your first tournament for the world."
Krillin and Yamcha were shocked. Right in front of them was Gohan. A legend in the martial arts world. Right here.
"Wow… Goku really is the grandson of Gohan…" Krillin said in amazement.
"Yeah… Goku is full of surprises isn't he?" Yamcha asked. He was still surprised at what he had seen the last time he and Goku saw each other.
Bulma however, was happy to see Gine and Gohan again. "Hey, long time no see."
"Oh, Bulma. It's lovely to see you again." Gine said with a smile as she looked to the blue haired girl. "How have you been?"
"I've been great!" Bulma said as she returned the smile.
"Any luck with finding a boyfriend?" Gohan jokingly asked with a chuckle.
This made Bulma blush hard. "I'm… still looking."
"Hehe, well keep looking, dear girl. I'm sure you will find one." Gohan said with amusement. Chichi just pouted as she saw Bulma was already chummy with Goku's family. She was worried Bulma might be a rival for Goku's affection.
Ox King however, gave a hearty laugh. "Hahaha! Gohan! It is so good to see you again!" he said as he greeted his old friend.
"Ah, Ox King. How long has it been?" Gohan asked fondly.
Ox King then scooped him into a hug. "Too long, old friend, too long! Hard to believe I have a daughter, and you have a grandson. Where did the time go?" he said through laughter.
"Hehe, too true."
It was a grand reunion. Old friends reuniting, and new ones being made. After months apart, Goku began to catch up with his family and friends, and told them all about his training, while Roshi talked with his former student's telling them how far their daughter and grandson had come along. While nursing a few sores given to him by Bulma and Gine for his lecherous attempts. All while they got a meal together. It was a good thing that Ox King and Bulma were rich, as Gine and Goku racked up a hefty bill. Everyone was shocked at how much they packed away, save for Gohan, who just chuckled.
"Hehe, still have that healthy appetite I see." he said as he watched them chow down.
"Nothing healthy about that…" Krillin said as he was wondering how they could eat so much.
"And I thought I was a pig…" Oolong commented.
When Goku and Gine had finished the meal, they both smiled, making everyone hopeful they were done. "MORE PLEASE!" they both called out, making EVERYONE in the restaurant fall over in shock. Needless to say, they made the restaurant run out of food, but at least they had enough money to replace it all.
The next day, the tournament was in full swing. Goku, Krillin, Chichi, and Yamcha all got ready for the elimination round. Unfortunately, none of the others could watch, due to it apparently being a fire hazard.
Thankfully, Ox King gave a hand as he carried them in their arms and shoulders to see through the windows. Though… Roshi seemed to be missing. But they were happy to see their friends tearing through the elimination rounds. And thankfully, they didn't end up facing each other, so they could get a chance in the actual tournament.
Bulma was amazed. Now that she could actually see Goku fight without being in danger, she noticed just how in his element he was. How natural he seemed. Like this was exactly where he belonged. She didn't really know what to think, other than to be amazed. Gine smiled when she saw the look Bulma had. It reminded her of when she would watch Bardock spar.
After the elimination rounds, the final eight had been chosen. The ones to participate, in order, would be Krillin against… the disgusting Bacterian, Yamcha against the mysterious Jackie Chun, Chichi vs Nam, and Goku vs the monster beast Giran.
As Krillin went to have his match, Gohan and Ox King had seen Jackie, and they instantly recognized his ki as they went over to him. "Master, it's you!" Ox king said excitedly.
Jackie, now revealed to be Roshi, jumped in shock. "Keep it down! You are going to blow my cover." he hushed.
"Huh? What do you mean?" Ox King asked in confusion.
Gohan however, understood perfectly. "I think I get it. You plan on defeating the children so that they can manage to remain humble, fearing they would grow complacent with victory."
Roshi nodded. "That's right, Gohan. They are young, and incredibly talented, but still have so much left to learn. This tournament could be a great chance for them to grow. However, I am afraid that if any of them were to win, their pride and ego would know no bounds, and give up on training, believing themselves to be the strongest." he explained.
"But Roshi, I can't speak for Krillin or Chichi, but I know for a fact Goku wouldn't. The boy lives to train and fight. To him, fighting is his life, and he always seeks to get stronger." Gohan argued.
"And my Chichi has always been a sweet, humble girl." Ox added.
Roshi let out a sigh. "Maybe so, but better not to take any chances if you ask me."
The two former students looked to each other, and ultimately decided to trust their old master, and promised to keep the secret of Jackie Chun's identity.
When they got back, they saw Krillin had won his match, and the staff of the tournament were busy cleaning the arena to remove Bacterian's stench. It had been time for Yamcha to face off against Jackie Chun.
Yamcha was of course suspicious, as he had never heard of a fighter by the name of Jackie Chun, and remembered how he was able to demolish his opponent's in the elimination rounds. Yamcha had attempted to see what kind of style the old man used, but every attack he threw at Jackie was effortlessly dodge. Even the Wolf Fang Fist was nothing to him.
Jackie had then used a blast of wind to send Yamcha flying out of the ring, and so in losing the fight, Yamcha's suspicions began to grow even more. He felt like he had known him from somewhere. Especially when Goku and the others told him that Master Roshi wasn't around, and yet Goku could smell him somewhere. It was then that Yamcha began to connect the dots, and figured out that Roshi and Jackie were one in the same.
Roshi had left the ring, and had seen Chichi looking excited for his match, but most of all, she looked as though she was confident she would win, that she didn't see Nam as all that strong. And so, he went over to her. "Hmm… why are you fighting, kid?" he asked plainly.
"E-excuse me?" Chichi asked in confusion as she turned to Jackie.
"You should try to take every battle seriously. You shouldn't underestimate your opponent, or you may just have victory snatched from you, since you are holding back, and your opponent will go all out. No matter how strong you are, victory is not always certain." Jackie explained. Before Chichi could say anything, Roshi walked off, giving his wisdom to the young girl, and hoping she heeds it. The rest was up to her.
Using his psychic powers, (yes he had those) Roshi could sense just how desperate Nam was. How he was fighting so that he could use the prize money to save his village, which was going through a drought, and couldn't afford to buy any water. Roshi was torn. He felt bad for the man, and wanted to help. But he also wanted his students to all make it to the semi finals. It was a tough decision, and decided to just see how the match played out.
When Chichi and Nam got to the arena, Nam had not dropped his ever serious look. Him and Chichi began to trade blows, and Nam could sense the sincerity in Chichi's blows.
"I can see you are very mature, for one so young." Nam complimented.
Chichi was surprised, but smiled. "Thank you." She then got back into a ready stance. "But I'm not done yet." she told him.
Nam nodded to her. "Good. Neither am I. I refuse to allow anything to get in the way of my mission." he said as he flew right at her with another attack. It was a difficult battle, and certainly a close one. Especially with his signature aerial attack, the heaven cross. Chichi had to give the fight her all, and finally, by the skin of her teeth, Chichi is just barely victorious against him.
Ox King cheered for his daughter's victory, along with her friends. "I knew you could do it, Chichi!" he cheered.
Chichi smiled as she waved to him. "Thanks, daddy!" she replied. Before turning to Nam, who was now standing over her.
Nam had a crushed look on his face, but gave Chichi a smile. "You had fought well. I am honored to have fought you." he said as he offered his hand.
Chichi smiled back as she shook his hand. "It was a really close fight. You could have beaten me too."
Nam nodded, before heading out of the ring, ready to pack his things while having a defeated look.
"That was quite the fight you put up." Jackie complimented.
"Huh?" Nam asked in confusion, before turning to Jackie. "O-oh… thank you…"
"Aren't you going to stay to watch the rest of the tournament?"
"I…I would love to. But… I have very important matters I must focus on." Nam then began to fill with anguish, not knowing how he could face his village, his family, after failing them like this.
Jackie gave a small smile as he tossed something to Nam. "Here, catch."
Nam was surprised but managed to catch it, before giving it a look. "This… this is a capsule? But it's empty. Isn't this normally used for storage?"
"Yep. You could fill just about anything in it." Jackie explained, before smirking at him. "Even a whole reservoir of water perhaps."
Nam's eyes were wide in shock. "H-how did you know?"
Jackie gave a small chuckle. "Imagine the mind like a book. If you can figure out how, then you could read it."
Realization hit Nam. "Then, that can only mean one thing... You are the great Master Roshi!"
Roshi froze in shock. "SHHHHH! Quiet! Follow me outside." Roshi told him as he led Nam out and explained his reasons for why he was doing this, in order for his students not to learn just how amazing they really were. Nam was surprised, but grateful for Roshi allowing him to know his secret.
Nam then offered to return the capsule, only for Roshi to explain that unlike his home, water was abundant where they were, and completely free. So he was able to take as much as he liked. Nam was even more grateful to him, as now his village could be saved.
Eventually, it was about time for Goku's fight against Giran in the fourth match. Giran felt he had a bone to pick with Goku for snatching some of his food earlier, so to him, it was personal. Some of Goku's friends felt a little concerned since Goku would be facing a literal monster. Even Gine was concerned. After all, she couldn't stand to see her baby boy hurt. But Gohan, he was sure the boy would be fine.
However, the fight would have to be put on hold due to… weather conditions. The gang decided to hang out in a bar, relax, and talk about the next match.
"I think you should be careful, Goku. I'm not too sure about that Giran guy." Yamcha spoke.
"What do you mean?" Bulma asked in confusion.
"I remember hearing some of the other fighters talk during the elimination rounds. He isn't known for playing fair." Yamcha explained.
Gine had a look of anger. "If that lizard thinks he can cheat against my son, then he has another thing coming."
Oolong had a calm look. "Trust me, the kid's got this in the bag. I've seen him fight plenty of times." he said confidently.
"Well I'll certainly try." Goku told him.
As they were talking however, they noticed that someone was still missing. "Hey, have any of you seen, Master Roshi?" Krillin asked.
Ox had a nervous look while Gohan stayed calm.
"Huh, actually I almost thought I saw him over there." Bulma said as she pointed to Jackie Chun.
Everyone looked to where Jackie was seated. Yamcha looked at him in suspicion, as he could swear it was Roshi, he just had no way to prove it.
Eventually however, Giran had showed up to the bar, and of all things, ordered milk. Something that some monks of the Orin Temple, Krillin's old school, made fun of him for. It eventually led to a fight breaking out between the monks and the monster. With the monks the ones who lose, despite outnumbering him. However, Giran wasn't satisfied with his victory, as he was prepared to kill one of them, before Yamcha had stopped him.
Giran however couldn't stand it when someone would pretend to be a hero, and so mocked Yamcha by saying he had a rash from it, and the only cure was to pound him into the ground. But Goku cut in, believing that their fight came first, before Jackie Chun jumped it, stopping them by saying they would be disqualified for fighting out of the ring. Goku decided to abide, though it took reminding Giran of the prize to back down.
Eventually the rain subsided, and it was time for the tournament to resume. Of course it took Goku longer to arrive since he was taking a nap… But he still made it in time for the fourth round to begin.
Of course, Giran decided to start things off with a dirty trick, before hitting Goku into the wall. Though he was shocked to see the young boy get back up.
Goku's friends cheered for him, telling him he could win. Goku smiled at their cheering and managed to get the upper hand in the fight, allowing him to grab ahold of the massive monster, and send him flying miles from the arena.
"Yeah! You did it Goku!" Bulma cheered, thinking it was over.
"I'm afraid not." Gohan spoke.
"What are you talking about? He is gonna get a ring out." Puar asked.
"You all seem to have failed to notice a few extremities Giran had." Gohan noted as he pointed up.
Just as Gohan suspected, Giran unfolded his wings, and began to fly back to the arena. The fight was far from over. And unfortunately for Goku, Giran would continue to play dirty, as he fired purple cement like substance around Goku, making him stuck. This was none other than Giran's Merry Go Round Gum. An elastic substance that couldn't be broken.
Gine was beyond pissed at how this beast was cheating against her baby, and so gripped the barrier that kept the audience away from the arena, and crushed it in her palms, scaring some of Goku's friends.
"W-wow! Maybe you should have joined the tournament…" Bulma said nervously.
Gohan chuckled. "Gine was never one for fighting. It isn't something she enjoys like her son." That surprised everyone. Guess Goku didn't get everything from her.
Just when it seemed like Giran would win as he paid Goku back for throwing him, Goku had managed to call on the flying nimbus for help to keep him from ringing out. Though it saved him once, the judges forbade him from using it again, which made his friends think Goku had no chance of winning.
Just as Giran was about to punch Goku as hard as he could, Goku suddenly disappeared from the beast's sights, leaving him confused. Only for him, and everyone else, to notice that Goku was hanging by Giran's arm… by a tail!
Krillin, was shocked to see Goku had a tail, Roshi, Chichi, and Ox King were shocked to see it was back, after JUST realizing it was gone, while Bulma, Yamcha, Puar, and Oolong was horrified that it was back, as it could only mean one thing.
"O-oh no… its back…" Yamcha said nervously as he hid behind a wall.
"Anyone else feel like a moonlit stroll?" Oolong asked as he was covered in sweat.
"N-no thanks…" Bulma shivered.
Ox King looked at them in confusion, not understanding why they were scared.
Gohan sighed. "Well, I was wondering when it would grow back." he was clearly expecting it to happen at some point.
"Why are you acting like growing a tail back is normal?!" Bulma shrieked.
Gine however, just smirked. "He's won this fight." Now this surprised everyone, save for Gohan. They had no idea what she meant, but she seemed confident.
Goku cheered happily that his tail was back, as he jumped off Giran's arm and balanced off the appendage. He then began to try to break the gum, to which Giran said he was wasting his time, while still stunned at the fact the kid grew a tail. Only to be shocked further, when Goku broke free, Giran's eyes nearly popped out of his sockets. Only for Goku to suddenly kick the same wall he was flung into, and smash it to pieces.
"H-how did he do that?!" Puar asked in shock.
Gine's smirk didn't vanish. "You see, me and Goku always feel stronger when we have our tails. So since his tail was gone, his strength was severely weakened. But now that it's back, he is back to peak condition." she explained. Everyone was surprised by this. To think, Goku had gotten this far with a massive handicap.
Goku was ready to continue the fight. But Giran, seeing the boy had broken from the gum, which again, was supposed to be unbreakable, had pulled out a white flag and surrendered. Goku fell over in shock as he basically got cheated out of a fight when he was all revved up to go.
Goku's friends were happy he had won. But… those that saw just how much trouble that tail could cause, looked nervous.
"We have a real problem…" Bulma spoke up.
"Yeah!" Puar nodded. "If he transformed in a city like this, who knows what could happen…"
"You kidding? If he went ape, the whole world would be doomed…" Oolong said, already having flashbacks.
Gine pat Bulma on the back. "I'm sorry you had to find out the way you did. But don't worry. My son would never look at a full moon. Save for the reason he did last time." she assured.
Bulma sighed ."Alright. It's still just… hard to imagine someone as nice as you and Goku could turn into… that…"
Krillin meanwhile was just looking at Goku, confused as hell, while Chichi was now wondering why he didn't have his tail for so long. "So… why do you have a tail growing out of your back, Goku?"
Goku just looked at him quizzically. "Well, that's where tails are supposed to be. Would be silly looking anywhere else!" he chuckled. This made Krillin deadpan.
"But how did you lose it before? I remember you had it when we first met." Chichi asked.
Goku had a nervous look. "W-well… some things happened that made me have to lose it…" Krillin and Chichi were confused about what he was talking about.
Meanwhile, Yamcha was growing more and more suspicious of Jackie. He knew he was Roshi, and made no attempt at hiding his suspicions. Even going so far to try and rip that wig off his head, to no avail.
Soon the time had come for Krillin to face Jackie Chun. However, Krillin was completely outmatched by the elderly fighter, as he was much faster, and stronger, then he looked. They did however have an incredible fight in the blink of an eye, and were kind enough to give a demonstration to explain to the crowd what exactly happened.
When they got back to the fight, Krillin used Jackie's clear perversions to trick him, before he sent him flying out of the ring. It looked like Krillin was going to win, only for Jackie to use the Kamehameha Wave to fly back to the arena. Which confirmed Yamcha's suspicions of the master, while the turtle students were surprised to see their master's technique used.
At this point, Krillin was desperate, and his attacks showed it as he began to attack wildly, only for him to be tricked by Jackie's afterimage technique, getting a hit from behind and knocking Krillin out.
When the fight ended, and Krillin recovered, Yamcha had called out Jackie., insisting that he knew the fighter's identity. It started to make Chichi and Krillin suspicious. Though Goku was confused, especially since he didn't smell like Roshi, due to wearing cologne.
However, it was time for the next match, which would be Goku against Chichi. Ox King and Gine were both cheering on their kids respectively. Meanwhile, Roshi had to come up with a plan to get rid of Yamcha's suspicions, and so he asked Nam for a favor as a way of thanking him for his help. And so, Nam was to help make Yamcha no longer suspect him to be Jackie Chun. By having Nam disguised as Roshi. That way, Roshi could focus on the tournament, and not worry about being found out.
The match between Chichi and Goku was underway as the two turtle students looked at each other. "Ready, Goku?" Chichi asked with a smile.
Goku chuckled and nodded. "Yeah! I can't wait!" he cheered.
"You can do it, sweety!" Ox King called out.
"Do your best, Goku!" Gine added.
Chichi giggled. "Looks like our parents are excited." Goku however just waved at his mom a little, before the match began and they began to fight.
Goku tried to think of what attack he could start with, before deciding to use the one Jackie used to beat Krillin, and so, he perfectly copied the afterimage technique. Chichi was shocked by this, and ended up just barely dodging.
Everyone was surprised at how Goku was able to mimic another technique after only seeing it once, just like with the Kamehameha Wave. None were more shocked than Jackie, though he could tell that Goku had a lot of potential. This young boy could likely master any technique he put his mind to if he tried.
Bulma was simply amazed. She couldn't stop watching Goku fight, for whatever reason. She found it amazing to see Goku in his element.
Puar and Oolong meanwhile were wondering who would win, as they both seemed pretty good as the fight went on.
Goku however, had the advantage, as he had been training to fight far longer than Chichi, and was creative with using his tail to help fight. Chichi put up a good fight, but in the end, Goku overwhelmed the girl.
Chichi was getting nervous, but she tried her best to get the upper hand. But Goku's potential, and heritage, gave him a massive advantage, as he came up with a spinning tornado attack on the spot. The young girl was shocked before she got slammed off the stage, and ringed out.
Chichi was disappointed, but she knew Goku earned that victory. And she had a fun time facing him. Besides, she was glad that at least one of them made it to the finals. She decided to go over to where her father was and watch the rest of the tournament with him and the others.
Bulma looked at her and smiled. "Looks like you really mellowed out training with them. Hard to believe you are the same princess we met a while back." she chuckled. "Hey, when this is over, you wanna hang out? Get a little girl time?"
Chichi was surprised by this, but then had an excited look. "Sure!" she said happily. She had always wanted to have a girl to be friends with. But being the daughter of a king made it hard to have any.
Soon though, the match between Jackie and Goku would go underway. Goku's friends and family began to cheer for him, wanting to see him win. Ox King and Gohan however, were nervous, as they weren't sure who was going to win. Their old master, or the young prodigy.
The second the match started, Jackie intended on finishing this quickly, and before Goku could react, he was sent flying out of the arena, much to the shock of all his friends.
"Goku!" Bulma shouted in shock. Chichi couldn't bear to watch, as she looked away.
Roshi mentally apologized, but felt like it was best to make things quick. But before the match could be declared over, Goku did the most shocking thing. He used his tail to fly back into the ring like a helicopter.
Jackie was starting to get annoyed, especially when Goku said he could have used the Kamehameha Wave to blast back like him. Roshi thought it would be impossible for this young man to do so, since it took him fifty years to master the technique.
To prove his point, Jackie fired his kamehameha at Goku, only for the young boy to fire back, with equal strength. The crowd was all terrorfied when the two beams clashed, causing a massive blast that sent the two fighters flying.
When the light show ended, Bulma was coming out of hiding from cover. "That was… terrifying…"
"I would say it was more impressive." Gohan argued. "To think that Goku could have become so masterful with the technique after only witnessing it, instead of being taught…"
Ox chuckled. "Well, that's your grandson for you."
Gohan laughed back. "Hahaha! I suppose so."
Gine however couldn't help but see how much fun her son was having. She was sure Bardock would be proud of the warrior his son had become.
The fight went on with Jackie using the afterimage technique, and making two after images, before kicking Goku into the wall so hard it shattered. Once again it looked to be over, but Goku was still perfectly fine. It was like nothing fazed him. Not only that, but he countered with three afterimages, and struck Jackie in the head.
Roshi was really running low on patience, and so he then started acting tipsy. Gohan instantly recognized what his master was doing. Drunken boxing. A style he was familiar with. Once again, Jackie had the upper hand, and Goku couldn't predict his moves. So Goku decided to pull out a style of his own. Acting like a crazy monkey, and smacking Jackie around.
Goku's friends all cheered for him, happy to see him have the upper hand. But Jackie had enough. He was ready to end this, as he began to gather his energy, ready for his next attack. "It's over, Goku. I already won." He proclaimed as he waved his hands around.
Gohan and Ox king had terrified looks as they realized what was going on. Before everyone knew it, Jackie had put Goku into a hypnotic trance.
"You are so sleepy. You are so tired." Jackie chanted.
"W-what?" Goku asked as his eyelids began to get heavy. Roshi began to continue chanting, and soon, Goku fell fast asleep. Jackie then told the announcer to start counting, so that he could win.
"N-no way, he is going to lose!" Puar called out in fear.
"Wake up, kid!" Oolong called out.
"Sweetie!" Gine called out.
The announcer was getting closer to counting to ten, only for Bulma to have an idea. "Goku, wakeup, your dinner is ready!" she shouted.
Goku instantly woke up, and looked around to find the dinner. "W-what?! Where?! Where's the dinner?!"
Roshi got annoyed with him acting like an idiot, but Bulma just smiled. "We can all go out for a big dinner after the tournament, Goku!"
Gine chuckled. "Pretty clever. You really know my son."
Bulma blushed. "T-thanks." This made Chichi pout.
"But you do intend to get a big dinner, right?" Gine asked, making everyone nervously sweat. Like mother, like son.
Now Goku was determined to end this quickly, and so used the Janken fighting moves his grandfather taught him. Gohan just sighed. "That won't work…" he said to himself. After all, it was Roshi that taught him that style.
And he was right. Jackie countered all of Goku's Janken attacks. Just then, Goku had an idea, and went to use the style again. He charged forward, calling out paper, and so Jackie readied for a palm strike, only to get hit in the face when Goku used rock right in the nose.
Roshi couldn't help but think it was clever as he just got up, barely beating the count down. "Ugh… that little runt. Pretty clever, calling out paper, but using rock. Guess I'll have to make you submit." he told the boy. Though he was afraid to use this next technique, as he was worried he might kill him. "I'll try to make it quick." he said as he rolled up his sleeves and clapped his hands together. Energy began to flow from his body, as sparks began to shoot from his fingers.
Gohan now had a horrified look. "WHAT ARE YOU THINKING, YOU MIGHT KILL HIM!" Gohan shouted.
"W-what?! Gohan, what do you mean?!" Gine asked in fear.
Gohan began to tremble. "That attack… he is going to use the Lightning Flash Surprise attack. I know it all too well."
Ox King was shocked. "W-wait, that's the attack master used on you…"
"Yes, it is an attack that sends twenty thousand volts of electricity through the opponent… If overused, it could be fatal…" Gohan explained.
Everyone's eyes went wide. "N-no way! And he plans to use it on Goku?!" Bulma shrieked.
"H-he can't do that!" Oolong protested.
"Oh Goku…" Chichi said in fear, hoping he will be okay.
Just then, Jackie fired a blast of lightning at Goku, causing the boy to scream in agony, as he was flown into the air.
All of his friends were horrified to have to watch Goku in so much pain. "Say you give up!" Jackie demanded.
"N-no! I'm s-still f-fighting!" Goku refused, as he wouldn't give up at all.
"Don't be stubborn! You will die if you don't!" Jackie told him.
"Just give up, Goku! It's not worth your life!" Bulma shouted from the stands.
"No! I won't!" Goku shouted in refusal.
Gine was trembling with rage and fear. Her maternal instincts were screaming at her, she was just about to jump into the arena to save her son, only to be stopped. "G-Gohan?" she asked in confusion.
Gohan shook his head. "There is nothing we can do. Goku must either find a means of escape, or give up. We can't help…" he said with a sad look in his eyes.
His friends kept shouting for him to give up, wanting him to save himself. Gohan was horrified. Not even he could withstand that attack for as long as Goku was.
Just when it seemed Goku was about to give up, he opened his eyes, only to be shocked when he saw the full moon. He suddenly started screaming again as he began to transform.
"Oh no! Not again!" Bulma shrieked.
"The full moon…" Yamcha said in fear as he looked up to the sky, while Krillin, Chichi, and Ox King's eyes were bulging from their heads in shock at seeing Goku turn into a giant monkey.
"Gine, your glasses!" Gohan shouted. Gine nodded and put on the sunglasses Gohan got her, not wanting to transform too and make things worse.
As Goku transformed, he broke free of Roshi's attack, shocking him as that wasn't possible. Goku, now in a rage, began to destroy the arena, tearing it apart, and causing innocent people to flee in fear.
"Goku, calm down! You're taking the fight too far!" Krillin shouted. Only for Goku to then launch debris at him.
"G-Gine, can't you stop him?!" Bulma asked.
"I-I would, but I'm worried I might make things worse if I transform too. I never did so in the middle of a city before!" Gine explained. Last time was in Mt Paozu, where there was plenty of mountain and forest to wrestle against Goku, and Gohan could get to cover. Here, there were too many people and buildings, and she wasn't too good at controlling herself in that form either.
Jackie had a determined look. "I have no choice…" he then threw off his shirt as he began to get ready.
Krillin and Yamcha ran to the others. "What can we do to stop him?!" Krillin asked.
"Last time this happened, we stopped him by cutting off his tail!" Yamcha explained. "Puar, turn into a pair of scissors!"
"W-wait!" called out Oolong. "The old man seems to have a plan!" he shouted, pointing to Jackie.
Jackie then drew on his energy, causing his body to bulk up. He was determined to stop this rampage as he looked up in Goku's direction. "Alright you beast! Kamehameha, maximum power!"
Yamcha's eyes went wide. "Oh no! He thinks the only way to stop Goku is to kill him!"
"What?! We have to stop him!" Gine said as she and Yamcha ran towards Jackie.
"Tell him about the tail! It's the only way to save him!" Bulma shouted.
"Goku! Please Don't kill him!" Chichi begged Jackie.
Both Gohan and Ox had horrified looks. Their master couldn't possibly resort to that… could he?
Jackie began to gather his energy into his hands. "KA… ME…"
"STOP!" Gine shouted as tears began to well up in her eyes.
"WAIT!" Yamcha shouted desperately.
But Jackie paid them no mind whatsoever, as he continued. "HA… ME…"
Goku roared as he stomped towards Jackie.
"NO!" Gine begged. She couldn't lose her son. She already lost her husband, her family, her world.
"HA!" Jackie called out as he fired the blast right at Goku.
Everyone went blind from the flash, as all they could hear was one final roar from Goku. Then, everything went still and the light vanished. When they all looked around, Goku was gone. All of his friends began to break down into tears.
"No… he… he…" Chichi hugged her father, unable to hold back her tears, as Bulma did the same with Yamcha.
Gine fell to her knees, sobbing like never before. Gohan put his hand on her shoulder, before looking to his teacher. "What have you done…"
Jackie sighed. "I'm… sorry… I only did what had to be done…"
Gine gritted her teeth. "What had to be done?! YOU MURDERED MY SON YOU MONSTER!" she roared as she glared at the man. A grief stricken mother, who had to witness her own son's death.
Jackie turned to her. "Calm down. Look over there." he said as he pointed to the rubble.
Everyone was confused until they saw a tail. They all went wide eyed. Not daring to hope, for fear they may be wrong, until the rubble cleared, showing Goku, naked as the day he was born, but very much alive, albeit unconscious, but still alive.
A smile spread across Krillin's face. "H-he's alive!" he cheered. Everyone joined in, happy to see he wasn't dead.
Gine put her hands over her mouth, tears falling harder down her face, this time of joy. Her baby was still alive.
"Goku wasn't the target of my attack. He had nothing to worry about." Jackie explained. Everyone was confused by what he meant, before Jackie slowly pointed up to the sky. "That was."
Everyone was shocked when they realized that something was missing. The moon. It was gone. He had destroyed it. Gohan chuckled, thinking that was pretty clever of his old master.
When the announcer was freaked out, Jackie scolded him to start counting, but too late, as Goku woke up, though confused why he was naked. The match was back on, Goku got into a fighting stance. Jackie however, was not feeling too hot. He used up all his energy blowing up the moon. Everyone could tell he was winded. But at the moment, something else was pretty obvious. Goku being buck naked. Chichi was a blushing mess, and Bulma was looking away in embarrassment. A few other girls in the crowd were giggling and blushing. That was until Krilling lended Goku his gi, leaving him in his underwear, before changing into his old robes.
"So… what was it like turning into a big scary monster?" Krillin asked.
"Huh… you mean… I ended up transforming?" Goku asked in shock.
Krillin raised a brow. "Uh… yeah? You don't remember?"
Goku then shook his head. "No. Whenever I do, it's like a dream that I don't remember when I wake up."
"Huh, that's weird." Krillin responded, before chuckling. "But if i could do that, I would love to jump on mountains and make earthquakes!" he said while laughing.
Goku laughed with him, before he looked at the arena, feeling bad that he caused all that damage, before getting back to the fight. However, he was feeling kind of hungry, leaving him distracted. Jackie tried to take advantage of this and fire another Kamehameha Wave. However, he had used up so much energy, it immediately failed.
Goku smiled as that meant Jackie couldn't fly anymore. Goku charged his own energy wave, much to Jackie's fear as he begged him to stop. When Goku fired, Jackie jumped into the air to avoid it, which Goku expected as he jumped up and kicked him in the stomach, causing him to fall out of the ring. Just when it looked like Jackie had lost, and as the people cheered for Goku's victory, along with his friends.
Only for it to be revealed that it was far from over, as Jackie had forced his foot into the side of the ring, and so he hadn't touched the ground. Both fighters were tired and out of energy. So they would have to settle for simple physical attacks. Hand to hand. Kick to kick. Old school martial arts.
They fought one another with great intensity. This fight had gone on for four hours by this point. And it was obvious with how exhausted they were. Goku had managed to get a few good hits in, but it wasn't enough to take the old fighter down. Jackie had certainly gave as good as he could take.
Jackie then had a plan as he suggested one final charge as they both delivered flying kicks to each other. Of course Jackie had longer legs, so he managed to get Goku in the face. Both fighters were left down on the ground, looking to be unconscious. When the announcer began counting, he proclaimed that since they needed a champion, they would have to wait for one of them to get up, and proclaim themselves the winner.
And so it became a race between Goku and Jackie trying to get up. Goku's friends were cheering him on, while the crowd was split. Goku was able to get back on his feet first. All he had to do was say he won, but before he could, he suddenly fell flat on his back, leaving him unconscious, despite the smile on his face, much to the shock of all his friends.
Just then, Jackie had gotten to his feet. He looked at the boy, before smiling. "I'm the world champion!" he called out over and over, celebrating his victory as the crowd cheered, while Goku's friends had looks of disappointment. Roshi had a nervous look. He had just barely won, and it was because he had longer legs.
When Goku finally came too, he was disappointed he had lost. But his friends and family cheered for him as Jackie received his five hundred thousand zeni prize.
Krillin and Chichi ran over to Goku. "Hey, Goku, let's go find master Roshi!" Chichi shouted.
"Yeah, then we can go eat!" Krillin smiled.
This lifted Goku's spirit as he had a massive smile as he followed them. Of course they couldn't find Roshi anywhere. And Goku and Gine were having some hunger pains.
Just then, Roshi came over to them. "Sorry if I kept you all waiting. I wanted to get Jackie Chun's autograph." he chuckled.
Krillin smiled as he ran over. "Did you see us fight?"
Roshi smiled at his three student's. "I certainly did. You three did great for your first try." he complimented. "But remember, just because you almost won, doesn't mean you have nothing left to learn. There are plenty of people just as strong." he explained.
The three nodded, excited to train more. Though Chichi felt like she needed some downtime to hang out with Bulma. She was still a princess at heart after all.
"Now then, why don't we all go have dinner to celebrate your first tournament." Roshi suggested. Goku and Gine drooled at the mention of dinner, which made Roshi know they were more than happy with that idea.
Of course, just like the last one, Goku and Gine ended up making the restaurant run out of stock. Bulma was shocked. "They just… plowed through fifty seven full course meals…" she shuttered.
"I lost track after forty…" Yamcha gulped.
Gohan chuckled. "Looks like you certainly worked up an appetite, Goku."
"Well what's his mom's excuse?" Oolong asked.
Just as they finished, Goku held his bowl. "Can I have more?"
"Me too!" Gine smiled. Causing everyone to be shocked.
"I… I think you had enough…" Roshi told them.
"Oh? Really?" Gine asked.
"Well… alright. We should save room for dessert!" Goku smiled.
"Oh, good point!" Gine chuckled, shocking everyone more.
Once it was time to pay for the food, the total ran up to four hundred and seventy thousand zeni, making Roshi almost have a heart attack, as that was almost ALL his prize money from the tournament. And so his hope of having some fun with it, was dashed into the wind.
And so it looked like Goku got to make use of that prize money after all, and that brought a close to this exciting adventure, and opened the door for a brand new one. But that was for another day, next time, on Dragon Ball ZMX
And that's it for this chapter of Dragon Ball ZMX. I hope you all enjoyed it. I'm sure some of you are surprised at me adding in the "If Chichi became a Z fighter" what if. Trust me, so am I, but I thought it would be interesting.
But I should ask, should I still have the "What if Bulma married Goku" what if, or would that not work? Or if you have other ideas to make it work? Of course, Chichi will end up with someone else if she doesn't get Goku, and it will at least be someone with a steady income like she always wanted.
Anyway, thanks for reading. I hope to see you all again soon.
