Vegeta sighed into the pilot seat of the ship and stretched his legs as he hopped out of the canopy. He caught up his bag and looked over the water's edge. He never regretted coming home. The horizon before him always awed him and was one of the few sights that humbled him, he was grateful for the peace he had until his thoughts trailed to the women he'd brought home. They definitely forced him to think differently and he hadn't been prepared for all of the pushy merchants when he'd gone to get them clothes. He complained to Briefs about it only once before Videl said she could sew clothes instead, as long as he brought fabrics. And though the merchants for textiles were just as pushy they were far easier to haggle with.
He'd also made sure to listen to Briefs when he said that women preferred softer fabrics, and not to buy anything too loud in color. Calm colors, soft knits, and plenty of needles to supply the machine Briefs had made for Videl. He closed his eyes and took in a steady breath, he wasn't good with people, but the gods above were trying him.
He touched the front pocket at his chest, making sure the small sachet he had was still there before he made his trek up to the houses. He craned his neck and carted himself up to Videl's home before knocking. The door opened, he paused seeing Videl's large smile at the sight of him. "You're home," she said.
He coughed and rolled his shoulders, suddenly uncomfortable under her happy gaze. "Here," he grumbled as he pulled a sachet of seeds from his pocket. She took them up and looked them over as she poured them out into her hand. "Seeds?" Videl murmured. Vegeta took up her hands and dropped them into them. "For your daughter." He merely turned away then and left her. Pan's head snapped up from her reading. "S-Seeds?" she called. She rose and Videl watched as Vegeta walked away without another word. "Yes," she responded, showing them to her. Pan looked them over as her mother held them out to her. Her lips twisted as she said, "I haven't seen these before. Did he say they have fruit? Or food on them?" Videl shook her head. "Nothing, he said, nothing else." Pan took them and looked them over. "They're spiraled, meaning they'll dig into the soil. Hm," she commented. She took one up and murmured, "Maybe a crawling vine. I'll have to build a picket." Videl slid the seeds back into the small bag and said, "You'll have to thank him." Pan nodded quietly before she walked through the house and out the back door. She went to work quickly. She ran towards the forest line across the meadow. She plucked up a fallen branch and lifted it easily onto her shoulder. She walked it back to the house and Videl took a seat at the porch side. She watched Pan's fingers splinter the wood to break it down. It was a rudimentary way to break the tree down to smaller pieces. Pan laid the pieces across the grass and Videl's eyes squinted at the brightness of the double suns'. She rose and went inside before returning with a bucket of water.
"Pan," she called. Pan was focused and working and finally looked up when Videl said a second time, "Pan." She sighed and rose from her work. She walked to the bucket and dunked her face into it before running her hands down her next and letting the water drip down her. "You hungry?" Videl asked. Pan shook her head. "Not yet. I'll work until tonight." Videl's small smile curled her lips and she rose to go rest inside. Her daughter was a hard worker and stubborn when it came down to it. No matter what she was doing or forced to do, she did it with the same gusto every time.
Videl whistled quietly and pulled up the broom at the door side. She swept through the house happy knowing Vegeta had gotten home well enough. She knew her cheerfulness could be irritating at times but she couldn't believe how truly lucky she'd been with Pan and Briefs and Vegeta. She paused in her sweeping.
She couldn't bring it to herself to tell Vegeta she'd heard tales of him, that he'd been just as powerful if not more so than Gohan. She tilted her head, leaning into the broom handle as she internally scolded herself for being so drawn to him. After all, she couldn't decide if she was drawn to him because he was kind or because his ki was familiarly comfortable to her. Being around other powerful creatures tended to put her on edge but Saiyans, maybe because of Pan, always put her nerves at ease.
She didn't know how to explain it to him, but seeing Vegeta brought her happiness in ways that she couldn't explain or quite understand. It was better to keep her thoughts to herself when they didn't hurt anyone.
That evening:
Trunks rolled his shoulders and tossed his bag into his room. "You won't be home for long," Vegeta called. "There's another job but, you've been on request." He groaned. "But you just got back too! Who the hell requested me?" he groused. He eyed Vegeta before he saw the stern look in his eye. "Contacts of Brolick," he said, "believe they found him." Briefs felt his skin goose pimple, he hadn't told another soul that he and Vegeta were looking for the scum that was selling Videl and Pan. Moreso, they were quietly killing the network of traders. He just nodded, agreeing. "I'm going to soak," he called back to him. He walked out to the backside of the house and threw the hot water on in the outside tub. Once it filled he eased into it without a second thought. He looked up and saw the moon was full and he sighed into the tub. It had been a while since he was home for a moon's phase.
He rests his elbows on the side of the tub and rests his chin on his forearms. He grumbled, "I won't be home for long. I just want a day to sleep…" He dipped beneath the surface and scrubbed his hair before he rose. He let out a heavy sigh and stretched his arms and his feet flexed. He washed his arms and cupped his legs to wash them as well.
He stilled when he heard footsteps. Quiet, but, he heard them. He let his night lamp dim away as he watched for an intruder. He turned over and rested his forearms on the side of the tub, making sure to not slosh the water. His eyes slipped over the darkness and just barely, as his eyes adjusted, he saw the noise maker.
Pan. She was smiling in the moonlight. Walking calmly through the gardens she had grown in the short time they had been here. He watched her as her fingers gently grazed a night blossom and it bloomed within her hand. His eyes narrowed as she did the same for another one. Her smile seemed to glow in the night as she opened another blossom from the crawling vine. Whatever she was doing was emitting a soft glow that would light up her face and they softly slip away. He frowned, trying to see closer but, couldn't figure it out.
"Briefs." He nearly jumped out of his skin. "Shit!" Water split over the ledge as he looked over at his father, peering out the back door at him. "You're on call and it's been confirmed, they're on the move," Vegeta reminded. Briefs could hear his heart pounding and he shook his head as the back door closed once more. He looked back to find her staring at him, in the rays of the moonlight, she looked ethereal. She didn't smile, didn't even blink, but, watched him as she walked up to the back door of her home. She ducked her head inside and disappeared.
Pan felt her heart racing as she eased into a room she called her own. She knew Briefs didn't know her window could look perfectly down onto him. She watched as he looked around before he lifted himself up and out of the large tub. Her eyes widened when she watched him, while he was nude, until he wrapped a loose towel around his hips and shook his hair free of water. He looked around and she eased away from the window, making sure he wouldn't see her. She took to her knees to still watch him through the window. She rested her arms on the windowsill and then, her eyes widened when he peered up at her window. She shot back but, she knew, he'd seen her. Maybe for just a moment but, he'd seen her.
She sat back on her rump and gulped back her surprise until her face went beet red. His head popped up through the window and she jumped, staring at him. He tapped on the window and she pressed herself up and crawled to the window, opening it. Her wide eyes gave her completely away and he smiled as how youthful she could be. She crookedly smiled.
"Hey," he called. She pressed her lips together and was relieved to see he had the decency to put pants on. She looked at him with wide eyes and he rested his arms on the window, keeping himself at her level. "Sugar," he teased, "you saw me." She could barely get her words out when she whispered, "You saw me too." He nodded. "You look nice," he complimented. She quickly crossed her legs when his eyes dropped, looking at her bare legs. She asked, "You're leaving?" He nodded once more. "Thought I would come say goodbye before I leave." Again, he was so blunt with his flirting. She murmured, "Do you say this to every girl?" His eyes widened and he smiled wistfully. "I do," he admitted, "but, you're not much of a girl hm?" He arched a brow and said, "I'll see you when I come home." And, he floated away. She watched him go and he eased into his home without looking back at her.
Briefs scoffed. He wasn't expecting her to ask that. He was almost upset because she assumed he visited with other women. But, it wasn't a lie. He spent plenty of nights with other women in his travels. After all, he wasn't committed to her, let alone anyone else. Hell, she hadn't even shown too much interest in him. Seeming to play nice but, he also didn't know much about her tastes in men. She probably didn't know either, from her background. He rolled his shoulders and Vegeta groused at him. "You haven't left yet?"
"I'm going! I'm going!" he snapped right back. "Lemmie get dressed dammit."
