The minutemen. an organization dedicated to the preservation of freedom and the lives of innocent people. at one point the group was considered destroyed by a group of well armed mercenaries known as the gunners as well as fierce infighting and leadership struggles the group only made it out of quincy by the skin of its teeth and would then proceed to take a long hard journey to a long forgotten and abandoned pre war neighborhood loosing everyone of its members to dessertion and the harshness of the boston wasteland. by the time they had made it to concord there were only two remaining minutemen a number quickly shortened to one during an ambush by a local raider gang seeking to capture one of the settlers.
by a sheer miracle a man from vault 111 arived and killed the raiders and a deathclaw. the man (who introduced himself as nathan prescott and his wife as nora) had been a soldier from before the war who was frozen in the vault with his family and sometime before he woke up his child had been kidnapped from him and his wife with them being cryogenicly frozen again after being tricked into thinking the men and women in hazmat gear were vault tec employees.
after getting settled in sanctuary hills the minutemen recieved word of a settlement that had been getting extorted by a group of raiders from the corvega car manufactering plant. the settlement was the small town of abernathy which had just enough guardsmen to make destroying the town costly but not enough to attack the raiders who had been ignoring the town in exchange for food, water, and a steady supply of caps.
by this point 5 months had passed and sancuary hills had become a boom town because of its saftey and had attracted 43 settlers 15 of whom had been trained by nathan (who used to be a drill instructer following the liberation of anchorage and had only moved to sanctuary because of his job which required him to work at the army training grounds located on the outskirts of the town where a red rocket had once been.) to become minutemen. by this point nathan had become the general of the minutemen and the town had underwent a massive renovation with nathans brief but usefull experience as a carpenter before the sino american war coming in handy as he directed repairing efforts of the buildings in the town as well as construction of new scrap metal huts. the quality of these huts would become widley known as they had electricity and a professional design reminicent of pre war housing with the electricity coming from a pre war fusion generator scavenged from the museum of freedom.
the raiders were easily crushed by a 5 man squad of the sanctuary minutemen led by colonel preston garvey and the town of abernathy agreed to join the minutemen with the 34 citizens with 12 being guards adding to the population of the now called united settlements of the commonwealth.
2 months after the uniting of the two settlements a population boom hit both of them with abernathy growing to 57 people while sanctuary grew to the size of 77 with the total number of 35 minutemen patroling the area around the settlements and clearing out concord an restoring the towns underground fusion generator which had ties to lexingtons municipal power grid lighting up part of the city. with the power restored in the western parts of lexington and concord settlers began to move into the towns under minutemen protection.
6 months had passed and concords population grew to the size of 44 with sanctuary (having built so close to the town as to have merged with it and being close to abernathy.) having a population of 97 and abernathy having a population of 59 with lexington having rebuilt a small district of the town had a population of 48. the number of minutemen at this point had grown to 66 which had caused the gunners to become worried about them again but neither side was close enough to do anything to the other being seperatated by a few miles and hundreds of things that were willing to kill anything they saw.
by the start of a new year the minutemen had gained the settlements of tenpines, the slog, greentown, sunshine, geygarden, and oberland station which had quickly become the hub of minutemen logistics and was turned into a military base after the sisters who owned it being killed by raiders from the beentown brewery with the raiders being killed and the brewery being turned into a water purification plant. the raider gang known as the forged had been destroyed with the ironworks being turned into a hub of weapons manufactering using pre war schematics of the M16 the plant was able to pump out rifles for minuteman troops. to save on scrap the minutemen used wood for the handguard and stock, with some rifles being sold for extra cash in minutemen settlements. the good news was the minutemen had new weapons with the bad news being the commonwealth was flooded with a reliable weapon with good damage and high accuracy replacing the handmade pipeweapons overnight and making the minutemen rich. more good news was that the minutemen controlled most of the gunners supply of weapons without the gunners knowing and the minutemen finding out soon after causing the to make a batch of guns designed to explode on the gunners when they fired them with much of the batch still being useable but made with shoddier parts so they failed more often. this was something the minutemen did with raider gangs across the commonwealth to great effect as wrongdoers died of weapon malfunctions. the only difference between the pipe weapons and the so called Boston rifle being that one was made to explode and the other was just shit.
by this time the united settlments had a population of 189 civilians with 99 minutemen making the minutemen the defacto power of the commonwealth. save for two challengers. the gunners and the institute.
