this will be a brief history of my legion of steel faction.

just after the battle of adams airforce base many enclave prisoners had been taken and much equipment siezed. the brotherhood commanders that had led their men on the attack recieved a order that they considered dishonorable. the execution of all enclave personel. scientists, soldiers, engineers... all would be killed for the crime of being born in a faction that had evil intents all of the crimes of the enclave would be placed on their shoulders even if they did not agree with their leaders and were just there to rebuild their nation. sure there was some racism but at the same time the brotherhood shot at ghouls and super mutants on sight regardless of whether or not they are feral.

this choice deeply unsettled the lone wanderer (jack donner) who had been slowly getting disenfranchised with an increasingly dogmatic brotherhood. he alongside sarah lyons the daughter of the previous elder (who had died of aheart attack one week prior and had left the brotherhood in a succession crisis in its greatest time of need and under the control of the council) would order their men to disobey the councils orders with their men obeying due to the respect they had for the two.

what follows would go down in history as an event that started the downfall of the brotherhood of steel. the two would argue with the council over the radio for an hour about the order during that time any surrendering enclave personel were rounded up and some could hear the argument on the radio between the two brotherhood heroes and the council. the two would then be declared traitors by the council and connection between the two groups would cease and the lone wanderer would give an ultimatum to the assault force. leave and stay with the brotherhood or stay with him, sarah, the other, defectors and finally the enclave prisoners who would be conscripted into what would be called the legion of steel.

the legion would work its way up north passing through Philadelphia and New York gathering manpower, supplies, and support by helping locals with their problems as much as they could along the way they started looting old enclave supply stashes and prewar military bases. the goal of this exodus was to reach boston and the enclave bunker there and use it to build a resistance to the brotherhood of steel. along the way they would be harrased by raiders, brotherhood scouts, and a mercenary group known as the gunners a new york based mercenary group hired by the brotherhood to destroy and subjugate settlements to make way for the brotherhood to settle the areas. the legion would spend the next ten years fighting the gunners an Endeavor that would destroy much of the legion as well as the gunners. with both sides severely damaged to being shadows of their former selves the gunners would only hold a sizeable presence in the commonwealth with the legion making their way to the commonwealth to destroy the gunners and use the jenson bunker to rebuild.

by febuary of 2289 the legion would make it to the commonwealth and all 144 soldiers 57 scribes and scientists plus the 600 odd refugees that were brought along from their travels would end up at sanctuary hills causing a stand off between the legion and minutemen. the stand off would cool down after colonel preston garvey would talk with the legions leaders jack, sarah, and colonel autumn and would surprise them with his knowledge of jenson base and the knowledge that the minutemen controlled

the base and its occupants. the legion would integrate with the minutemen and be absorbed into the 3rd infantry division and 2nd mechanized. the civilians that were brought along would resettle across the commonwealth although mostly in rural areas because of their experience farming in the worst conditions of both phily and NYC which had been heavily bombed because of their importance to the american war effort. that combined with the 200 years of war between mercenary groups and fueding factions that turned the soil of the surrounding areas into barren wastes devoid of any kind of plant life save what could be grown by settlers.

these refugees were considered the best farmers out there and would apply their knowledge to give the commonwealth a considerable surplus of crops. combine that with the scribes and scientists of the legion and minutemen and the surplus would be so large that the amount of crops in the commonwealth would be so large that it became a problem as crops slowly rotted in the store houses in the commonwealth and devalued the farming industry. this problem would be solved when a scouting expedition from a nation known as the new california republic would make contact with the commonwealth. the expedition was one of many sent to explore the prewar united states, mexico, and canada. the scouting party had managed to upgrade the diamond city radio tower to be able to reach california which had gotten into a famine in the 4 years the expedition had been gone. a deal was struck between the united settlements and the NCR that the ncr would send hastily refurbished cargo planes into the commonwealth to land at hanscom and collect crops to bring home. a diplomatic incident would start when the cargo planes were greeted by men in APA MK1 wearing the logo of the 1st air assault on the shoulder. ( 13 stars surrounding the forward facing silhouette of vertibird gunship with the minutemen logo just beneath it) this would cause the troopers in the cargo planes to open fire resulting in the death of 5 troopers with the rest being captured and treated. despite this the men of the 1st would treat the wounded troopers and load the crops onto the cargo planes.

after word reached the NCR diplomats that were at the diamond with the rest of the expedition they would begin a stand off with the forces at the diamond and after a few minutes the standoff would end with the troopers of the NCR being disarmed and locked in the jail of the diamond with contact being established with the NCR by their diplomats who would explain the situation. the deal would still manage to go through and the troopers would be rearmed and sent home. the incident would hinder diplomatic relations only slightly as the crops arrived in california and would feed thousands of people not ending the famine but severly weakening the impact of it making it a worthy diplomatic endeavor and starting an airborne trading route between the two nations with the commonwealth dollar being minted to be accepted by the NCR so that caps would not be needed.

during this time the brotherhood would begin to prepare an expedition into the commonwealth. they swore to themselves they would subjugate the area.
