A/N: I am so sorry for the long wait! I just did not how to continue this. I wrote chapter two quite awhile ago, but I wasn't sure how I felt about it, so I let it sit for a bit and then decided to scrap it and start over. Again, due to technical difficulties, {} means flashback.
Frigga pushed her bedchamber doors open, letting them slam behind her. On the surface, Frigga appeared to be the most levelheaded person in the royal family. Which meant it was much more significant when the queen did lose her temper. There were servants bustling about the room, Odin standing in the center with Gungnir in his hand.
"Leave us!" Heads snapped in her direction before the servants obeyed and Frigga was alone with her husband.
"Frigga, what is the meaning of this?" Uncertainty and worry tinged his voice, yet Frigga did not care.
"Where did Loki get the Mind stone and the Chituari?" Her voice held none of the love and compassion it usually carried, instead it was cold and hard.
"I do not know. Besides, why would it matter? What is the point of this inquiry?"
"I do not believe Loki is guilty."
"Don't be fooled by the Trickster's lying tongue. He killed another realm's king, tried to destroy said realm, likely let the Frost Giants into Asgard, committing treason, tried to kill Asgard's prince and attacked Midgard."
"Was it not you who conquered the Nine Realms? Was it not you who killed his own daughter? Was it not you who stripped Jotunheim of it's power in the first place? Do accuse Loki of crimes you have committed tenfold!"
"Do not disrespect me!" Odin boomed, banging Gungnir on the floor, sparks jumping from the tip.
"Then perhaps you should do something that demands respect!"
"I am king! I am the AllFather!" Odin barked as he stormed forward several steps. Anyone else, including her sons, would have stepped back.
"And I am queen! AllMother!" They stared each other down, neither willing to back down or submit. The AllMother took a deep breath, trying a different tactic. She should have known anger wouldn't work on her husband.
"What did you say to Loki?" The question caught Odin of guard and it took a second for him to formulate a response.
"I have exchanged many words with Loki." And you wonder how Loki got his Silver-tongue.
"What did you say to him after you made me leave?" Odin's gaze dropped a tad before he stared her down, eye ablaze with fury that attempted to hide the guilt.
"I told the prisoner his verdict." She strode forward. She knew when Odin was hiding something. The AllFather kept many secrets from Asgard, granted, it was better the realm not be troubled by the secrets and atrocities. And yet, a small voice whispered, look at what could have been avoided had Loki knew his heritage.
She stopped about a foot from Odin and said,
"Do not lie to me." Before he could react, Frigga pressed her palm to his forehead and fought back his mental defenses, gaining access to his memories.
{ Loki walked up to the throne with his head held high albeit the chains that rattled with his every movement. How could he betray them? Why was history repeating itself. This was exactly what Hela would do before- Stop thinking about her. The need for bloodshed must run in the family. Your family. A voice whispered fiercely. He would not make the mistake of letting the deed go unpunished.
"Loki." Frigga called Loki's name, as if she could bring him back. There was no redemption for people like him. What about you? The voice whispered. Is it Hela you see? Or yourself?
Loki stopped, and turned his head in Frigga's direction.
"Hello, mother. Have I made you proud?" Frigga was quick to answer, eyes searching for a glimmer of the Loki they raised.
"Please don't make this worse."
"Define worse." Loki responded almost coldly. Odin just wanted to get this over with, perhaps teach the prisoner some respect and remind him who held the power.
"Enough! I will speak to the prisoner alone." Odin boomed, killing the conversation. The queen left, the Einherjar stayed. Loki laughed and Odin immediately knew this would be a long conversation.
"I really don't see what all the fuss is about." He truly did remind him of his mother. Hela had told him that numerous times, almost word for word.
"Do you truly not feel the gravity of your crimes? Everywhere you go, there is war, ruin and death."
"I went down to Midgard to rule the people of earth as a benevolent god. Just like you." Those last three words were truly the work of Loki Silver-tongue. They cut deeper than his daggers ever would.
"We are not gods. We're born, we live, we die, just as humans do." Loki frowned, nodded and then smiled.
"Give or take 5,000 years." This was not his son. His son would always argue the opposite.
"All this because Loki desires a throne."
"It is my birthright!" Loki snapped angrily.
"Your birthright was to die! As a child, cast out onto a frozen rock. If I had not taken you in, you would not be here now to hate me." He had leaned forward slightly, so he now sat back as Loki replied.
"If I am for the axe, then for mercy's sake, just swing it. It's not that I don't love our little talks, it's just... I don't love them."
"Frigga is the only reason you are still alive and you will never see her again. You will spend the rest of your days in the dungeons." Loki stepped back, shock evident. He tried to cover it up by saying,
"And what of Thor? You'll make that witless oaf king while I rot in chains?"
"Thor must strive to undo the damage you have wrought. He will bring order to the Nine Realms and then yes, he will be king." With that the Einherjar took Loki to the dungeons. Why did his children go rogue? He could only hope Thor would stay true and good. As soon as they were gone, he slumped tiredly in the throne. He felt Heimdall's gaze leave him. Perhaps Loki hated him, perhaps he had good reason to, but Odin was protecting him from himself.
If he had won Midgard, he would regret it for the rest of his life. The blood affected everyone, given time. A chill swept over the room. Weak! Whispered his daughter's voice. You are a coward for not killing him, for not killing me. I am coming, Father. I will take him back and I will burn Asgard to the ground. How long could he keep her at bay? If it weren't for the Odinsleep, she would be free.
A white flash and another scene started playing. Odin stood at the top of the stairs. The temperature had dropped several degrees due to Loki holding the Casket of Ancient Winters.
"Stop!" He knew worry had escaped into his voice, but he did not care.
"Am I cursed?" I wish that was the case.
"No. Put the Casket down." Too late, his daughter whispered as Loki turned, skin blue and eyes as red as the blood his parents spilt.
"What am I?" My son, Hela whispered.
"You're my son." Hela laughed.
"What more than that?" Loki asked, voice low yet demanding.
"The Casket wasn't the only thing you took from Jotunheim, was it?" Again, Hela laughed.
"No. In the aftermath of the battle, I went into the temple and I found a baby. Small for a Giant's offspring, abandoned, suffering, left to die. Laufey's son." You still continue to lie. You stole him from me! You stole everything! After all I had done for you! Odin could feel Hela's anger from where she seethed in her prison. The Odinsleep was coming.
"Laufey's son." Loki repeated. My son, Hela answered in Odin's head.
"Why? You were knee deep in Jotun blood. Why would you take me?" To punish me. Though I suppose you can't tell him that. A wave of tiredness hit Odin Hela tried to escape. They both knew Odin should have slept long ago. She had been in his head constantly for weeks now.
"You were an innocent child." Your parents would have ruined you. Just as you ruined me.
"No, you took me for a purpose, what was it?" Smart boy, his mother whispered. Odin did not know what to say.
"TELL ME!" Unshed tears shone in Loki's eyes. Go ahead and lie, AllFather. For once he listened to her.
"I thought we could unite our kingdoms one day, bring about an alliance, bring about a permanent peace, through you. But those plans no longer matter." His words were not chosen well.
"So I am no more than another stolen relic, locked up here, until you might have use of me."
"Why must you twist my words?"
"You could have told me what I was from the beginning. Why didn't you?" You still don't know the half of it, Hela mused.
"You are my son. My blood. I wanted only to protect you from the truth." So now you admit I exist. How loving of you.
"Because I-I-I am the monster parents tell their children about at night?"
"Don't-"
"You know it all makes sense now, why you favored Thor all these years. Because no matter how much you claim to love me, you could never have a Frost Giant sitting on the throne of Asgard!" Hela throbbed inside his head, trying to escape. Odin was exhausted and Loki was not helping. If Hela came- Odin collapsed into the Odinsleep. The scene changed again.
Loki and Thor were hanging off the edge of the broken Bifrost. Odin had Thor's boot, Thor had the head of Gungnir and at the end of Gungnir, hung Loki.
"I could have done it father! For you! For all of us!"
"No Loki." This is not the way.
"Loki no." Thor saw it before he did. Loki let go. What have I done? His older boy screamed in grief as Odin struggled to pull him up. Loki was gone.} The scene flashed white again, but Frigga withdrew her hand, not able to watch anymore. She left, anger coursing through her veins.
"Where are you going?" She turned, facing a man she did not know. She need not wonder why Loki refused to call him father. He was a fool who destroyed everything and everyone around him.
"I told you that lies and secrets would destroy this family. You lied to everyone, even me. I am going home. Do not stop me."
A/N: Okay, I should probably explain a couple things. Because Odin cast a spell to ensure everyone forgot Hela, she's connected to his head and the Odinsleep is to fight her off and keep her locked up. However after Odin dies, Hela thinks people will remember her because the spell would wear off after he died. I think that the spell is what killed Odin not the other way around. Odin died because that spell was tied to his life force, constantly weakening him. I don't know if I consider it a head canon, but I definitely consider it true for this story. Next chapter might be Loki's POV, I haven't decided yet. Thanks for reading!
Guest, thank you for your review. I don't know how long this will be, but it should be a decent length. I'm playing it by ear.
