Back again with another Future Bluey chapter, this time starring Jack, Rusty, and Indy.
Alright so big notes here. This chapter is going to be a bit more serious compared to the previous two. Also, this is the only chapter so far I have planned to NOT have Bluey and Jean-Luc, who are like the main characters of this fic. However with them I feel like they would throw off the feel of this chapter.
Another note, unlike Rusty I did have a military parent but I wasn't as into it as Rusty is, so I'm only going off of what I could remember from what my parent said about their experience on base.
Last note, since the characters are vastly aged up (still can't settle on a set age so the characters are barely in their late 30's in my current timeline, might change my timeline to mid 30's. The tags in my Valentines Fic give a better picture of what is current, but I might change it.) and Jack is old handling his ADHD while I'm barely entering my 20's handling ADHD, so I'm sorry if Jack feels a bit off from the official series.
Alright with that out of the way let's begin.
Keep moving forward Rusty!
Rusty had just gotten back from work on base. Of course as per usual he is greeted by his partners Jack, and Indy. Jack was on his computer, hopefully looking for any jobs that would hire him. Indy was making tea, getting ready to off on her job.
"Afternoon Babe!" Indy called from the kitchen.
"Oh Hey Rusty!" Jack looked up, not knowing he'd entered.
"Hi guys." Rusty said, a bit dead panned.
"I'll get that for you." Indy said as he grabbed his bag.
"Thanks." Rusty said with a small smile.
Indy proceeded to kiss him on the cheek, and walked into their room. However something was a bit off today.
"How's job hunting?" he asked Jack as he sat down.
"These dang employers man." Was all he could say.
"That bad huh?"
"Yeah."
"Well then. You still doing to basic exercises to help with you not staying still?" Rusty asked.
"Yeah, they've been helping a lot, I'm staring to actually sit still." he said enthusiastically.
"That's good."
"Yep."
"Alright you two I'm going off to meet Coco at the Marketplace." Indy said as she kissed Jack and Rusty on the cheek.
"Bye Sweetheart." Jack said.
"Bye Hun." Rusty said.
With that Indy was off.
So yes. Indy, Rusty, and Jack are currently in a Polyamorous Relationship. It came to be after Rusty came to term with that fact he wanted to be with both Jack and Indy. He loved them both romantically. But he was dating Indy first. Of course she was completely opened to the idea of multiple partners, but not in a one-night stand way, having a genuine loving relationship with him and Jack.
However, Jack was the one not too keen on the idea at first. He did realize he was bisexual because of Rusty, but he was mostly firm in the idea he was completely monogamous. Until he and the others gave it a chance. First it was a week, which turned to a month.
Five years later here they are, happily in this relationship, just as neutrally loving as any other one.
But right now Rusty was about ready to pass out. Jack noticed and lifted his computer so Rusty could plop his head in his lap. Which he did. He normally did when work tired him out. Jack moved the computer on the couch next to them, still looking for potential job openings.
"Oh?" he said as one caught his attention.
"You find something good mate?" Rusty asked.
"Yeah. But it's a fair bit away. You think Indy will be cool with taking me to work every morning?" Jack asked both jokingly and seriously.
"If she could take me, she'd probably take you too. Depending on the route anyway."
"Then that's a yes."
"What's the job anyway?"
"Retail. Apparently I'm the only one to apply within the last month. So I guess I lucked out."
"That's good." Rusty said.
"Employer says we could make an interview later this week."
"Dang. Why so soon?" Rusty asked.
"Dunno. But it's not like I'm busy. About time I start pulling my own weight around here." Jack told mostly to himself.
"But that can wait until I'm done." Rusty joked, still laying his head in Jack's lap.
Days would go by. Jack had gotten his retail job, Rusty was spending a bit more time on base than usual making him come home more burnt out, and Indy was getting worried about both of her partners. She knows the environment that Jack was getting himself into, she wasn't sure if he could handle it because of his ADHD. And Rusty was a different story. It's almost like he was scared to go to work as of late, and when he came home, he would be more relieved, but very on edge.
Now she mostly is allowed to take a few days and start doing the housework, which wasn't very hard because they took good care of their house. But it didn't hurt to do a few extra things to make Jack and Rusty welcomed and loved in their own home.
Now Rusty was at the store, going through the different produce for Indy's diet. She was only allowed/able to eat certain foods. She never told him why, but he went with it. He was going to grab a cabbage until his hand was ran into by another. He looked over to see who it was to apologize, but he was met with a familiar face.
"Rusty!" Honey said, happy to finally see Rusty after what felt like years.
"Hey Honey. How've you been?" Rusty asked, shocked to run into her.
"Well, I've been doing great. But what're you doing here? Normally Indy does the food shopping." she inclined.
"She…Told me I needed to head out more. Outside of work. Ya know how it is, right?" he joked.
"I know how Indy feels. Mackenzie's just barely reconnecting with old friends, who aren't work buddies. If you ever do make actual friends, it makes a big difference at home." Honey went on.
"That…sounds nice. I might get back in touch with him if I get the chance." Rusty said.
He then continued to reach for cabbage.
"Oh Please do! He may not like to say it, but…he really misses you. You know how he is."
"Yeah. I miss him too." Rusty said unconsciously.
"He has the whole week off. Maybe you, him, and Jack could do like a 'guys night' type thing."
"I could, but work has me this week. Maybe next time I'll ask him."
"Great! I'll let him know. But if you ever go through with it, you bring him back in one piece. Got it?" Honey joked.
"Yes Ma'am." he said with a smile.
With that Rusty continued to shop as normal.
Indy was currently making dinner. Tonight the boys would be having hamburger patties, while she would have potato stew with a salad, hence why Rusty needed the cabbage.
Jack came home rather aggressively and tossed off his uniform.
"Hey Jack." Indy greeted.
"I am going in the room. To cry now." he calmly said. Tears making it very obvious he was already doing so in the way.
"What happened?" she asked. Obviously concerned for her partner.
"I had an episode at work. And I got put on the block, and I got my pay cut this next paycheck." he explained.
"Oh Jack. If you want Rusty and I are here for you." Indy comforted, as she lightly held him.
"I don't know about Rusty. He seems…out of it lately. Did you notice that?" he asked.
"Yeah. I did. We'll talk to him about it after dinner, alright?"
"Okay." Jack said as he reciprocated the hug.
After about half an hour Rusty finally comes home.
"Hey Rusty!" Indy greeted as she set the plates of food down on the table.
"I'm sorry I took long, the traffic was bad." he said expecting to get scolded.
"Don't worry about it you're just in time to eat alright. And be careful around Jack. He told me he had an episode at work today." Indy tells him.
"Oh Dang. Was it because of his…condition?" he asked.
"Most likely, but he didn't tell me."
"Okay."
"Jack dinners ready!" Indy shouted. Their room was across the house.
Jack heard her and slowly walked out of their shared bedroom. Seeing Rusty, made him feel better. At the same time, he knew they were going to have a serious conversation.
The three were mostly happily eating dinner together. However, it was a bit quieter than usual. Normally Indy and Jack would talk about what they had done at work, and Rusty wouldn't get too into detail, but gave enough to hold the conversation up. Because of this unusual silence, Rusty felt on edge, just like he'd been the last few weeks.
"Rusty." he heard Jack say quietly.
"Yeah?"
"Um…You've been very jumpy as of late. And I want to talk about it." he said.
"It's nothing." he was quick to dismiss.
"Rusty… It's obviously not nothing." Jack continued.
"Don't worry about it." Rusty said, getting slightly more aggressive.
Indy was getting worried now. So she jumped in.
"Rusty. Jack. We will talk about this later." she said to both of them.
"No Indy. Rusty. I want to talk about it. You've been on edge the last few weeks and it's been distracting you from us at home." Jack said defensively.
"Jack. Just drop it." Rusty said calmly, still holding on that slight aggression.
"Did you even notice how burnt out I've been? How much I wanted YOU to ask if I was okay? Is it work? Did something happen at work?" Jack tried to pry.
"Rusty I'm sorry but I'm with Jack on this. I'm sure if we just talk about it-"
"NOTHINGS WRONG!" Rusty suddenly shouted. Making both Indy and Jack jump a bit.
"If that's how it is…I'll sleep somewhere else tonight." Jack said as he got up and started towards the room.
"Jack…Jack wait." Rusty said as he got up as well.
Jack ignored him. Still walking.
"Chloe has an extra room, I'll sleep at her house tonight." Jack calmly said.
Rusty started breathing heavily. It almost felt as if time was slowing down. His whole life with Indy and Jack flashed before his eyes. He could NOT afford to lose someone he loves.
"Jack." Rusty said.
He wasn't aggressive however, if anything it sounded like he was desperate. Jack looked at him, ready to hear what he had to say.
"They're deploying me next week." he said regretfully.
Indy and Jack were shocked. He's never been deployed before. And they were worried about him not coming back home.
"That's why…I've been the way I was. I…was scared of going…and of not coming home. I'm so sorry for not telling you. And I swear I'll do everything I can to…make it up." Rusty said as tears unconsciously streamed down his snout. As he sobbed between phrases. As his knees nearly gave out.
Jack and Indy approached him from both sides. He was expecting the worse. That's what he was taught on base. To always expect the worst.
But they hugged him. Jack from the front and Indy from the back.
"Rusty. As scared as we all are. You can tell us anything. Sure we might scold you, or scream at you. But we'll always love you." Indy told him.
"You're the one who taught me to stand up for myself in spite of my condition. I'm the last person to lecture you about not being scared." Jack continued.
"I'm sorry. I…I can't lose either of you." Rusty wheezed. He returned Jack's hug by putting one arm around him, and Indy's by holding her hand.
After minutes of Rusty letting it all out about what he was being deployed for, Jack and Indy processed everything. Indy got up.
"Well, if that's all there is. Then we probably need to get to bed. You might as well start making it up to us tomorrow. Jack and I have something planned for all three of us to do." she calmly said.
Rusty wasn't one for surprises, but if it meant spending more positive time with his partners, by God he will hop on that train so fast. He wiped the tears from his eyes, and sniffled a bit.
"I love you both." Rusty said comfortably.
"We love you too." They said in unison.
"Hey Jack? WHEN I get back…Guys Night with Mackenzie?" Rusty asked in a cheeky manner.
"Of course." Jack said. Then he abrasively pressed his lips on Rusty's. Took him by surprise, but ironically it made him happy. He returned it passionately. After some time they broke off.
"Now then. Come on you two I have a kitchen to clean, and we have a big day ahead of us tomorrow." Indy said.
"Let me help." Rusty said gingerly.
Another chapter done. As one could tell there's always that certain fear of deployment when it comes to anyone you care about being in the Military. That's what I really wanted to make this chapter about.
However, I understand if you wanted more Jack, however I can't write characters with ADHD very well. (Crazy considering I have it myself.) So I didn't want to misrepresent people who have it, as the experience and struggles vary from person to person.
But I really hope you enjoy this chapter either way, I really do.
Now question for next chapter, Ellie and Daniel will see Nana Chilli? (they have a good relationship I swear this is the latest of her many visits.) Or Mia and Captain chapter? Once again I have ideas for both, but what do you wanna see first? Let me know.
