Soon after he had said hey Eddie had fallen asleep and Buck just watched him sleep, people may find it creepy that people watch others sleep but Buck didn't care, as long as he saw the chest of Eddie rise and fall he was happy.
Buck kept an eye on the window as nurses and people walked past, he was worried either Chim or Hen would appear, he knew what they were like and they would find a way past. It annoyed him though that they expected to be informed why he was here like they had some entitlement on what was going on outside their work lives, yes most of the time they shared stuff but normally after it had happened, this was something personal, but at least Bobby had kept quiet but no doubt he would be getting a few calls off Maddie soon.
His thoughts are stopped when he feels the hand in his squeeze and he looks back to see Eddie awake again.
"I can see you overthinking again, don't, it will make you get headaches and a wrinkly forehead." Eddie chuckles quietly.
"God, not long awake and giving me grief. But I guess I can allow it this time." Buck says and stands to kiss Eddie on the lips.
"You love it really. So glad to see you though." Eddie says.
"Not as much as I missed you, for you it was a quick sleep, for me it was hours of waiting." Buck replies.
Eddie coughs a bit and Buck quickly gets the glass of water and hands it to Eddie to drink, he watches as he tries to shift.
"Don't move too much." Buck says.
"I know, Just want to sit up, that's all." Eddie replies.
"Fine, let me go get a nurse." Buck responds.
He goes to move but feels Eddie's hand firmly grip his arm and he looks down to see tears rolling down his cheeks.
"Hey, what's up?" Buck questions, he moves and Eddie pulls him in for a hug and Buck wraps his arms around him.
"I was… scared I wouldn't wake up, you know." Eddie states and Buck just hugs him tighter.
"Don't be silly, we both know you're too stubborn to go like that. But I did have the same thought and it scared me. Ed's it really did."
They hug for a while, until the door opens and they both look to see the doctor standing there. Buck moves and sits down, taking hold of Eddie's hand again.
"Mr Diaz, glad to see you're awake, how do you feel?" He asks.
"Groggy but ok." Eddie replies.
"To be expected, and the pain, how is it?" He asks next.
"At the moment I cant feel anything but guess that will change." Eddie replies.
"That it will, we will slowly lower your pain medication and go from there, you obviously will feel some discomfort and it may be a while before you are used to the change." The doctor adds.
"You mean from losing a ball?" Eddie states.
"Eddie, really?" Buck interrupts.
"What Buck, it's true there's only one it's gonna be different, am I right doctor?" Eddie asks.
"I mean it's one way to put it and yes you will, but it's also the side effects so you may need to speak to someone professionally." The doctor adds.
"Looks like Frank may be seeing more of you." Buck chuckles, and Eddie groans.
"But down to the main thing, come on doc what do the results show?" Eddie questions, Buck can feel his blood pumping hard, he knows Eddie's is as the heart monitor is beeping faster than it was.
"Mr Diaz, obviously we have removed the area, and on investigation it was infected with cancer cells. We will wait a few days to look at the blood and move on to Chemotherapy once your body has healed a bit." The doctor explains.
"Can he not start straight away?" Buck questions.
"It's not advisable, your body just had surgery and yes it may not seem like a big one it still puts a strain on the body and it has to heal, we will watch closely and in a few days we should be able to start, this gives us time to do a few scans and see if it has spread to other areas." The doctor replies.
"So can I go home?, I would rather be at home." Eddie asks.
"Not tonight, we need to keep you under observation and obviously lower your pain meds over the course of the night, so depending on how you are tomorrow with the pain and if someone can change the gauze over the wound then maybe. But no promises." The doctor explains.
"Yes, so no lying if you're in pain you own up ok, no trying to get out sooner." Buck adds and Eddie rolls his eyes.
"Look, I'm gonna leave you to it for a while, a nurse will be in soon to check your vitals and most likely change the gauze." The doctor explains.
"Can I watch?" buck asks.
"Buck really?" Eddie moans.
"No, I want to know how to change it so when you're home I can do it ya dummy." Buck chuckles.
"That would be handy, right I'll be back later, rest up Mr Diaz." The doctor says and leaves.
"Well that was embarrassing." Eddie says.
"Why is it?" Buck questions.
Eddie knew full well why it was embarrassing, having to lose a testicle was one thing but being unable to change the gauze himself and someone else having to it was silly, but also it was intimate and he only let people he loved and trusted to see his private area, now some random person was going to see him.
"It's nothing." Eddie says.
"Edmundo." Buck says and gives Eddie the eyes. "What did we say about bottling things up?" Buck states.
"Fine, it's just to me seeing my private area is personal and intimate and only to be seen by people close to me." Eddie says. "I know some people don't care and flaunt it around but that's not me Buck." Eddie states.
Buck is quiet, he never thought of it like that, yes Buck would be first to admit his junk is most likely all over the internet but he didn't care at the end of the day it's a part of the human body so why not flaunt it, but hearing Eddie explain it to him this way made him feel bad and got why he felt embarrassed.
"Hey, I get you feeling embarrassed, but just think of the good thing that has come from it, yeah." Buck explains.
"I know but still.. You're right look at the positive, but as long as it's not a woman." Eddie says.
"Eddie, I don't think you have a choice and I'm sure whoever is coming in has seen way more penis's and vagina's than both of us combined." Buck chuckles.
"I mean that is a lot especially when we think of your track record." Eddie chuckles and Buck slaps his arm.
"Cheek, wait till you're better you will regret that comment." Buck replies.
"I'm sorry Buck." Eddie says feeling shitty at saying something like that.
"Eddie it's fine, I mean ok below the belt comment but at least you are having a joke and that's what I like to see not the mopey man." Buck teases.
"Don't Buck, I mean it, don't say it." Eddie starts to laugh.
"Hey there mr grumpy gills, when life gets you down, you know what you gotta do? Just keep swimming." Buck starts singing.
"Argh, please shut up. You know I hate it." Eddie laughs as he tries to hit Buck.
"Nah, payback for that comment, just keep swimming, swimming." Buck continues.
Eventually Buck stops and takes a seat next to Eddie again and they look at each other and start laughing again, soon though Eddie is feeling tired and nods off to which Buck again watches him, though after a while he takes his phone out realizing he hasn't messaged Abuela that Eddie was awake and he knew what she would do if she found out he had been awake for hours.
Quickly opening his phone as predicted there we loads of messages asking what was going on, by several people he just swiped the screed to clear them away pulling his face and send the message to Abuela stating that Eddie was awake be it grumpy and that he had put her and Chris on the visitor list, he left out the reason why and hit send.
He decides also he needs to send a message to Owen more than anything just to say thank you for the support.
'Hey, Owen, it's Buck, thanks for today you were a great support.'
Once he hits send he places it back in his pocket and sighs. He was glad the day was almost over and that Eddie was awake, even though he kept drifting in and out of sleep.
"So, what was the face for when you swiped across your screen?" Eddie asks, making Buck slightly jump.
"Thought you were asleep? And it doesn't matter." Buck replies.
"Was, and what did we say about hiding things?" Eddie smirks at him.
"You're so annoying. But when I came back after they rang saying you were out, I kinda bumped into Hen and Chim, who obviously had just dropped someone off." Buck says and he sees Eddie swallow.
"Let me guess they wanted to know what you were doing here and that they made you feel like you owed them an explanation?" Eddie coldly states.
Buck was taken back abit but he knew what Eddie meant they had expected to be told.
"Yeah, but the nurse put them off and told them to keep away." Buck replies.
Eddie sits there for a minute as much as he loved the firefam it was annoying how they got involved in everyone's business even when it had nothing to do with them, it was part of the reason he was looking at other places to work, though he won't admit to that. But he just wanted to be able to focus on him, Chris and Buck and the start of his recovery before everyone found out.
"Good, I just want to focus on us." Eddie states
"Good, and I will focus on you, and get you better." Buck replies.
Eddie sat there watching his boyfriend and just smiled he could watch him alday, he wanted to get better and show Buck the world and that he would be loved no matter what, but getting better with people hovering around was going be nice at first but he knew how much he hated having people pather around him, he just wanted sort it on his own. He started to think about maybe going to his parents and doing his treatment there at least there would be no one annoying him as much and his parents would keep themselves busy as they knew how he could be.
"So whatcha thinking about? I can hear the cogs going." Buck chuckled.
"Just that maybe it be better to go back Texas for treatment if I can, I mean I don't want it to look like i'm running away and id want you there, it's just it would be so much easier for me to be there and not annoyed by everyone here, ugh, I don't mean it to sound harsh." Eddie says and looks to Buck who looks in shock and now Edddie panics that he's said the wrong thing again.
"Yes." Buck says.
"What?" Eddie replies.
"Yes, let's do it, sod them here, let's do it, you need somewhere quiet and where they can't turn up, so yes let's go." Buck replies with a big grin on his face.
"You sure, I mean you have Maddie? The job you love." Eddie explains, he knew how much it meant to Buck to have the job.
"It's fine we will sort out work and they can call. All I want is to get you better." Buck says.
"Really?" Eddie questions.
"Yes." Buck replied he already had an idea on work and it could work out.
They both sit there smiling at each other for a while before the nurse arrives explaining it was time to change the gauze and he was happy for Buck to watch and learn for Eddie it was horrible, he felt violated but the thumb running over his hand by Buck kept him calm and knew it was to get him better. Once the nurse left, they quickly face-timed Chris to show him that Eddie was awake and promised he could visit soon, eventually Eddie started to drift again and so did Buck.
Eddie tried to get Buck to go home but he refused and set up the chair ready to sleep in it, he watched Eddie until he drifted off and then slowly drifted off himself the thought of a new start swimming around his head.
