For the first time in a long time, his anxiously happy facade crumbled. In its wake was the endless sea of tears. He couldn't care less about condolences or words of encouragement. Would that bring everyone back? Would it stop people from dying?
He wished he could go back and fix it all. Protect them all. Love them all. But it's too late. He has to keep on living for them, and for her. He made a promise. He would make sure she would grow up into a great hero. Now, he could do that. Finally, he made a society where his daughter can grow up happily.
From the second they found out she existed, they planned, prayed, and hoped for a beautiful society that could accept their little girl. A small bundle of blonde hair, sharp teeth, and an unimaginable amount of energy. Alongside, a small amount of bloodlust. Given her mother was less than stable, it wasn't a surprise to see his one month old daughter latch her canines into his neck.
Now under the falling rain, he barely felt the hand of Shoto. He should have expected Todoroki to come and look for him. He was his last close friend. After losing Iida, Uraraka, and Aizawa, he relied on Shoto. Sometimes, even needing Shoto to tell him when to eat and sleep.
Shoto jostled his shoulder "Lets get you home man. Now is not the time to get sick." Subdued, Izuku followed the lead of Shoto.
Once the door opened, Izuku took one step and was knocked down by his energetic daughter.
He ruffled her hair "Hey Kiba." She smiled and her sharp canines peeked out. His energetic mess of a daughter nuzzled her head under his chin. Izuku suppressed his welling sadness and hugged her back with a tight grip. I'm sorry. I'm sorry you'll never know your mom. I'm sorry I couldn't save her.
"Hey Shoto. You wanna stay for dinner?" Izuku asked from within his daughters hair in two messy buns. Shoto replied with a stoic "Hm". After a few moments, Izuku stood up while holding his daughter in his arms. She squealed loudly at his action. She started rapidly and giddily speaking "Daddy, you won't believe what happened today." Izuku tried to reply with a 'Oh Yeah' but she just kept talking. "Today me and grandma watched a bunch of movies and there was this one. It was about this girl like me. She had sharp teeth and liked blood and red things. It was so cool. She could turn into a bat and fly wherever she wants. I wanna be a bat sometimes. Can I Daddy?" Izuku chuckled at his daughter's naivety. "Maybe one day Honey. Some day you'll grow wings and fly far away." He spoke solemnly. Kiba shook her head rapidly "Will you come with me?" Izuku involuntarily let a few tears fall "Hopefully, I will. Just wait until I'm ready ok?" Kiba nodded enthusiastically.
Izuku finished pouring the bowl of soba in one arm and held the plate of rare steak in the other. He set them down in front of their respective chairs. "All right, Dinners Ready." He called. Once the other two seated themselves, Izuku asked Shoto "What do you want to drink, Shoto?"
"Water is fine." Shoto responded. Minutes later, Izuku emerged with three glasses. To Shoto he handed the water and for himself coffee. Kiba excitedly bounced her seat and tapped her chopsticks against the table.
Izuku took notice "Alright, Alright. I've got it." Then he set a glass of blood in front of her. Upon him taking his seat, they all dug in.
Izuku hefted Kiba onto the nearby stool, so that she could see herself in the bathroom mirror. He helped get her toothbrush ready and handed it to her. "Now make sure to get all the blood out. That'll stain your teeth. Alright?" She nodded and happily took the brush. Together they brushed their teeth, side by side. After that, they washed their faces and patted them dry with a hand towel. Izuku spoke "Alright, time for bed Ms. Vampire." Kiba pouted in retaliation, but ultimately raised her arms to him. Happily, Izuku lifted her up and rested her against his body. He walked them into his bedroom and slid into bed. They had begun sleeping in the same bed some years past. It began when Kiba began to unearth repressed memories in her dreams. She experienced painful memories of her mother and her untimely demise. That added to Izuku's loneliness and turmoil. They found that they helped calm each other. Their nightmares happened less and less when they embraced the company of each other. He laid the already asleep Kiba in his bed. To pass the time, he busied himself at his desk. From under the desk, he pulled out a metal container with a keyhole. After unlocking it, he pulled out a stack of letters. They dated all the way back to his second year at UA. They were his letters to Himiko in secret. Even though they were hero and villain, he never gave up hope in her. Involuntarily, silent tears dripped down his face onto the old papers. He couldn't bring himself to stop or to wipe them away. After exhausting himself, he crawled into bed. As they do most nights, Izuku cradled Kiba on his chest and drifted off to sleep.
Izuku rubbed a hand down her back and enjoyed the low purring coming from her. He slid said hand around her stomach and pulled her tight against his own body. That action resulted in her muttering "Zuku, stop that. I'm tired." Unfortunately, he didn't stop. He trailed his other hand lightly down her side. He stopped and rested it on the naked skin of her hip.
"Himiko, wake up. We can't stay in bed all day." As if taking all her combined effort, Himiko rolled over.
She tiredly opened her eyes and pouted "But I don't wanna." Izuku wiped his finger across her lips and pulled one side up into a smile.
"Don't worry, we'll be back in bed later."
She responded "We better." They gradually got out of bed and dressed themselves.
Before leaving out the door, Izuku kissed Himiko "I'll be back. See you later." Himiko waved him goodbye while caressing her small baby bump. Through the doorway, the world was enveloped a bright white light.
Izuku groggily woke to sunlight shining in his eyes. On top of him, Kiba softly purred. He slowly rubbed up and down her back. You're just like Himiko. He ran his hands against her cheeks. Briefly, he pulled one side of her mouth into a smirk, and watched the pearly white canine glisten in the morning light. Kiba began to wake and take in her surroundings. She yawned widely which accentuated her sharp teeth. Then she spoke "Good morning Daddy."
Izuku replied "Ya, Good Morning Honey." He continued "Come on, you need to get up Kiba. Daddy has work today remember."
Kiba whined "But wwwwhy? I want to stay with you."
Izuku placated her "I know, I know. But I'll see you later today. How about tomorrow we do whatever you want, ok?" Kiba nodded reluctantly and left to get ready. Upon her leaving his room, Izuku slumped down and rubbed his tired eyes. He spoke "Geez. I've got so many things to do today. Then I have to make room tomorrow.Uuuhhhhh." Izuku groaned frustratedly.
He checked the straps of her black and red plain backpack. "All set?" Kiba nodded and walked over to Inko's side. Inko spoke "Alright let's have fun today. We can tell your father all about our fun when we come back." Inko turned and started walking down the stone path. From his doorway, Izuku watched them leave. Before he closed the door, Kiba came running back "Daddy! I'll be back later and we'll have lots of fun too." Kiba jogged off towards Inko and waved. She yelled "See you later." The sight of his daughter turning away from him and walking off into the distance wrenched free a well of emotions. His gaze blurred and there he saw Himiko. Her blonde hair was set free down her back. She watched him as he studied her. He could barely make out her mouthing the words "Wake up, Zuku."
The declaration brought Izuku back to his porch. Determined, he reentered his house and made way for his work desk. On there were endless amounts of papers for his agency, which is on hiatus. A few from friends and a bundle from Himiko herself. The letters had been read so much lately that they were permanently crinkled and had tear stains. Gingerly, he set them aside in their box and began working on the overdue paperwork. While working through it, he began to feel his eyes droop. Eventually, he fell asleep on his desk.
The cloudy darkness took shape. In front of him stood him arch enemy, Tomura Shigaraki. Izuku kept Himiko behind him with an outstretched arm. Izuku tried to fight off Shigaraki but was pushed back. After backpedaling and dodging narrowly missing hands, Izuku was hit and a palm flattened against his abdomen. Quickly, the shirt and suit dissipated. Next, his skin dried and felt odd. A handprint of bleeding exposed muscle remained on his abdomen. Before Shigaraki grasped Himiko's face, he said "I can't leave any pieces unaccounted for." Before his eyes, Izuku watched as Himiko crumpled to dust and was blown away by a current of wind.
He bolted up from his desk and looked in every direction. He tried to reorient himself after the tragic nightmare. He tried to continue the basic paperwork, but kept catching himself feeling disconnected. He felt like he was slowly falling into a haze of unidentified time. Eventually, he snapped back when he heard the doorbell ring. Izuku walked to it and opened it softly. "Hello, how can I-" he was interrupted by his giggling daughter "I'm back Daddy. I told you I'd come back." Izuku shed some tears and hugged her tightly "I knew you would, because you are best daughter I could ever ask for."
