Carmelita was still pretty upset with Skylar not being able to have time to recover. Despite this, she had to push her feelings to the side; it was for Sly after all. Skylar was pretty much healed and ready to go, her nose just was not in the best shape. She was glad Skylar didn't have to stay too long, it was hard for her to juggle watching Silvester and be with Skylar in the hospital all at the same time.
Carmelita, Skylar, and Silvester all sat on Bentley's old couch, waiting. Luckily for Skylar, her mother brought her up some fresh clothes before leaving the hospital. She wore her favorite long sleeve purple shirt, some fresh jeans, her favorite black sneakers, and had her long black curly hair tied in a ponytail. Silvester wore his favorite basketball shirt, some fresh jeans, and some Jordans he had received from his grandma for Christmas. He wasn't a basketball fan, but he liked the fashion.
Carmelita bundled herself up in a thick blue coat, an orange jacket, some jeans, and some fluffy brown boots. Her hair was in her signature braid, but mostly covered up with an oversized brown beanie. She was freezing outside, and she couldn't understand why her kids weren't that cold. It was 30 degrees Fahrenheit outside!
After what felt like forever, Bentley finally wheeled in, holding the old vase Silvester had given him. Right behind him was Murray, ready to go back into action just as he said he was.
"Okay guys, we have a lot to do." Bentley brushed off the vase, but didn't manage to brush much of the dust off. "This thing has certainly seen better days." He smiled.
Murray waltzed in with his usual happy self. "Hey Carmelita!" He shouted. He soon looked down and noticed Skylar and Silvester, staring at him with confusion. Murray raised an eyebrow at the two. "Hey, you look just like Sly!" He pointed at Skylar when he said this, wondering if she was a relative or something. "And you…you look like Carmelita!" Murray pointed at Silvester, trying to piece together who they were before being told anything.
"Murray, these are the two I wanted you to meet." Bentley wheeled behind the chair and placed his hand on Skylar's head. "This is Skylar." He put his other hand on Silvester. "This is Silvester. These are Carmelita's kids."
"Oh, congratulations, I think." Murray wasn't the biggest fan of Carmelita. Remembering his past with her he quickly wondered what she was doing in Bentley's house, even more so what her kids were doing here too.
Carmelita stood up nervously. "Murray, these are Sly's kids, too."
Murray backed up slightly in shock. He had no idea Carmelita was even pregnant at all, especially with Sly's kids. He had no idea how to respond, and even felt a little sorry for the kids. He knew what it was like to grow up without a father, but unlike him the kids had a mother. "So, both are Sly's?" He asked nervously. He didn't want to come across accusatory, but he suspected Silvester might've not been related to Sly.
"Well…yes." Carmelita blushed and scratched the back of her head. "These are…well me and Sly's twins."
Skylar and Silvester didn't respond. They never heard much about Murray and soon became a little bit intimidated by his figure. Skylar wasn't as intimidated as her brother, but regardless she wasn't about to tick him off. She swallowed her fear and quickly stood up to shake his hand. "I'm Skylar. Skylar…fox."
Despite what Skylar was fearing, Murray happily shook her hand back. "I'm happy to meet you, Skylar. So I guess you're a Cooper, huh?"
Skylar shrugged. "I think…" She eyed her mother, who was eyeing her right back with a frown. "Well, the good parts anyway." She smiled nervously at Carmelita, who soon turned away accepting her answer.
Silvester really did not want to acknowledge Murray, despite his friendly nature. Murray was very intimidating to him, so he refused to even look at the hippo. Murray tried to say hi, but Silvester ignored him.
"He's shy." Carmelita pointed out. "He's just going to have to get used to you is all."
"Hey Bentley, did you ever figure out the time machine?" Skylar interrupted.
"Oh, yeah." Bentley sat the vase down on his kitchen table. "I didn't really talk to Penelope much, on account I still don't trust her."
"Wait, Penelope?" Murray blurted. "I thought she was still in prison."
"Well, she hasn't been locked up in a while." Bentley looked at the ground for a bit. "It's kind of a long story, though. She was the one who managed to track down Sly. Despite her lies in the past, I think she's telling the truth on this one."
Just as Bentley was finishing what he was saying, there was a loud knock on the door. Bentley started to wheel to the door to answer it, but Murray got in his way. "Don't worry pal, I got this." Murray walked over to answer the door, revealing Penelope on the other side. Her hair was still in a long ponytail and she wore her yellow jumpsuit with black boots, still wearing the ankle monitor Carmelita locked on her. She stood nervously at the door staring at Murray, hoping it was Carmelita or Bentley that answered the door.
"Oh…hey Murray." She nervously answered. "May I come in?"
Murray lowered his eyes angrily. He couldn't stand her after what she had done to his best friend. He had never seen Bentley have a heartbreak like he did, and he blamed her all the way. "That depends. What do you want?"
Bentley wheeled over to Murray to diffuse the situation before it got worse. Murray doesn't get angry often, but when he does it often does not end pretty. "She's…okay Murray." He signaled for Penelope to come in. "Come in."
Penelope did as she was told, walking nervously and slowly to the couch. She continued to stand, feeling as if she was not welcome to sit next to Carmelita and her kids. She started to sweat nervously, but felt a bit calmer as she cleared at least a little bit up with Bentley. "First off, I'm sorry about all of this, and what I did to everyone." She turned over to Carmelita. "Thanks for not arresting me, too. I promise I'm going to uphold my deal." She turned back over to Bentley. "If I can, Bentley, I just want to mention I found out a little more where Sly might be, and it's not pretty. I'm afraid he's in trouble or something."
Bentley straightened his glasses. "I'm aware." He boldly stated. "Where did you find this vase anyway?"
"Oh, me and Savannah took a summer trip to Egypt and I found it in a tomb we were touring. I'm not a historian, but I figured it was from the right era."
Silvester perked his ears up hearing that name. "Wait, you know Savannah?"
Penelope smiled slightly. "Well, yes. She's my clone. I built a cloning machine and she was my prototype. Do you know her?"
Skylar smirked a bit, remembering her trick she had played using poor Savannah. "She's in our class."
"Oh, that's funny. Small world, isn't it?" Penelope unstrapped her backpack and pulled out a thick folder full of paperwork. She sat it on the poor excuse of a coffee table in front of Carmelita. "This is everything I gathered to prove my claims about Sly…that is if you want to see it."
"Well, regardless, we need to figure out what exactly this vase is." Bentley picked up the vase and carried it into his tech room. "Come follow me." He signaled for everyone to follow him. The room was big enough for everyone, but just barely.
With everyone watching, Bentley went into the corner by the storage closet and placed the vase into a machine. "This machine is going to tell me where exactly this vase came from." The machine was large and had a cylinder shaped tube with a glass door. Bentley opened the door and placed the vase inside, causing the machine to light up the room. Very shortly later, the monitor by the glass door on the machine lit up, revealing the details of that vase. Bentley read it quickly, turned to everyone, and expressed the saddest look on his face he has had in a very long time. "This isn't matching the time period Penelope said." He said, almost crying. "This isn't going to find Sly."
"Wait, Bentley. It's not the end of the world. I'll just go back to Egypt and see if I can find something else." Penelope tried to calm the situation down, but was unsure how to do it. She didn't intentionally give the wrong artifact, she really thought it was going to help. She felt more guilt enter through her body watching her ex grow sadder, clearly avoiding crying. She almost cried herself, but quickly sucked up her tears to not draw attention to herself. She never meant to hurt him, but she just can't stop breaking his heart.
"Penelope, it's no use." Bentley closed his eyes, losing all hope. "Egypt isn't going to give up their goods that easily, I'm surprised you made it this far with that vase. It's not worth it, I mean who knows if there are any artifacts left. It's not worth it."
Carmelita quickly started to grow angry hearing Bentley say this. "Bentley…" She interrupted in a demanding tone. "Since when do you just give up?"
Murray chimed in. "Yeah, buddy. You didn't give up when you lost your legs or when you…well…" He looked over at Penelope, dismissing what had happened so he didn't open up another can of worms. "Anyway, you never gave up, even though you wanted to."
Bentley didn't really hold much truth to what his friends were saying. The truth was, he felt like giving up entirely. Sly had been missing for years and he felt he never got past square one. When he felt like he was actually getting somewhere, he got knocked back to the point where he was.
"Uncle B?" Skylar approached him, looking at him with her large sad eyes.
"Yes, Sky?" Bentley is eager to listen to Skylar, or really do whatever Skylar asks. He loved to spoil her and thought the world revolved around this little foxcoon, along with her brother. The twins were all he had left of Sly, so he held them as close as he could.
"The museum has an Egyptian artifact. Maybe it's from the correct time period? Maybe we could try that."
Carmelita was quick to interrupt. "Absolutely not." She barked at her. "We are NOT going to have another museum incident again."
"But mom, it could get us to dad." Skylar begged.
Carmelita crossed her arms. "I don't care. We aren't committing a crime, not under my watch anyway."
Bentley quickly was trying to think of an excuse to change Carmelita's mind. Skylar didn't have a bad idea, and the museum hasn't failed them before, but Carmelita could only be pushed so far. "Maybe Skylar is right, you want to find Sly don't you?"
Carmelita took some deep breaths, trying to let go of her irritation she was feeling. "Well, yes. But I am not going to let my kids commit a crime again. I didn't raise criminals."
"But Carm-" Bentley tried to beg.
"If this is what the solution is, fine. I don't want anything to do with it." She pulled Skylar and Silvester by their wrists and forced them to walk with her. "I'm going home, and I'm going to find Sly myself. I am NOT having my kids be criminals, Bentley."
Bentley was taken back, trying to figure out what he said. Skylar was the one that suggested it, but he figured maybe Carmelita had to cool down. She still had a hot head despite what having kids did. Carmelita marched the kids out of the room and slammed the door, leaving Murray, Penelope, and Bentley all alone.
"Well, so much for that." Penelope groaned.
"What is her problem?" Murray asked, a bit frightened.
Bentley sighed. "I think she still has the mindset that Sly was a criminal. The whole issue was she was trying to prevent her kids from being like Sly and…well in her mind…be criminals like him. I don't know. I try to respect her, but sometimes she confuses me."
Carmelita calmed down quite a bit on the car ride home, but her kids were still terrified. Skylar heavily regretted ever mentioning the museum, as she thought her mother was over that. Silvester didn't mutter a single word, nor look at anyone the entire time. Carmelita parked her car at her apartment and opened the back door, letting the kids out.
The kids walked silently to the front door, waiting for Carmelita to unlock it. She dug around in her bag, retrieving the keys, and opened the front door. "Can you two sit on the couch?" She calmly asked.
Skylar and Silvester did as they were told without question. Carmelita stood in front of them and sighed. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that. You just don't understand being a criminal, and I'm terrified you two are heading down that path."
Skylar sank in her seat. "I know, mom, but I figured it was different because it could rescue dad."
Carmelita frowned. "No, committing a crime is committing a crime no matter what. I'm sorry, Skylar, but I cannot let you take anything from that museum again, no matter what. I cannot allow that."
Skylar sighed. "I'm going to bed."
Silvester got up following her, unsure what to do. "I…I'm going to bed too." He muttered.
Carmelita sighed and threw herself on the couch as soon as the twins went into their room. She sank her face into her hands and started to cry. She didn't know what to do. She felt anger and disappointment when Bentley found out the vase couldn't help them, and just didn't want to accept it. She worried in her mind she was soon going to have to accept that Sly was never coming back and the twins were going to live out the rest of their lives without him. She knew Skylar's plan was valid, but she was raising her kids to NOT be criminals. She sacrificed a lot, but she wasn't going to sacrifice their freedom for something like this. She thought aggressively in her mind if there was another way, not really coming up with anything. After crying for a while thinking about this, she laid her head down on a throw pillow on the couch and drifted off to sleep, still in her clothes she had worn that day.
Skylar rolled around restlessly in her bed, just trying to figure out another way to find Sly herself. She didn't care what her mom had to say, she wanted their dad here. Silvester felt the same way, but feared his mother more than anything. Skylar stared up at the ceiling, brainstorming a plan to get that artifact they needed. "Silver?"
Silvester groaned. He knew exactly what she was about to ask. "What, Skylar?"
Skylar just smiled. "Let's just go get that artifact ourselves. I'm tired of this."
Silvester grew angry. "Skylar, no. I'm not going to get in a giant amount of trouble for you again." He rolled over and pulled his pillow around his ears.
Skylar grew irritated. Does anyone want their dad to come back? Now her brother doesn't want him back either. She just couldn't understand. "If you aren't going to help me, I'll just do it by myself."
Silvester perked up when she said this. He didn't want his sister going alone, as she would most likely either get caught or get hurt. Sure she's a pretty good thief, but she was horrible with planning jobs. She relied on her brother for that most of the time. "You can't do that." He groaned.
"Watch me." Skylar hung upside down to stare at her brother. She narrowed her eyes straight at him angrily.
Silvester rolled back over and narrowed his eyes back at her. "Skylar, if you go by yourself you're going to get caught and I don't think the police will be so nice again, especially if mom catches you."
"Okay. Then come and help me then."
"I'm sorry, Sky. Mom said-"
Skylar flipped over off the bunk and landed on the floor. She stood up and crossed her arms. "I do NOT give a rats behind what mom says. Do you want dad back or not?"
Silvester blinked several times to try to sort out what she had just said. "Excuse me? I want dad back just as much as you do, but I don't want to get in trouble again. But even if dad comes back, does it even matter? I mean we made it this far without him."
Skylar started to turn red. "Oh, so I'm the only one who cares now? Fine. Such a brother you are. I'm getting that artifact from that museum with or without your help. I can handle it just fine by myself, I'll show you. I'm a Cooper."
Silvester felt his heart break hearing his sister say that. He felt his face start to leak tears, despite him hiding it. He cared so much for his sister, but he also cared for his mother. He had no idea what to do or think at this point. "Skylar-"
"I'm getting that artifact. I'll see you later." Skylar interrupted. She pinned her long curly hair into a bun and dug around in her dresser, finding her black beanie, her mask, her black shirt, and her black leggings. She slipped all these items on, pinning her hair underneath the beanie. Silvester couldn't help but watch helplessly, as Skylar had made up her mind what she was going to do.
"Skylar. Please wait."
Skylar paused before exiting the window. She looked back at her brother, not really caring about what he had to say, but felt she had to listen anyway.
"I'll…I'll help you." Silvester looked down at his long white socks he wore to bed. "Just, let's just figure this out. Don't go. You're gonna get caught like last time."
Skylar removed her beanie and mask. "You're…you're right." She sat on his bunk and buried her face in her hands. "I just want dad to come home."
Silvester scooted to her and placed his arm around her. "I do too. I mean, you're right. I'm sorry. I just don't want to make mom mad again. You saw how much it upset her."
Skylar looked over to her brother and furrowed her brow. "Mom obviously doesn't care about our dad. Look at the facts, she didn't even tell us much about him because he was a 'criminal.' Let's face it, Silver, we have to find dad on our own."
Silvester was torn on who to agree with. He wanted their dad back as much as Skylar did, but at the same time he hated to upset his mother. After thinking for a bit, he realized his sister was right. He couldn't understand how his mother had been feeling, but he understood how his sister felt. "Okay, let's just come up with a plan. This time, avoiding getting caught."
Skylar stood up and took off her clothes, revealing the pajama set she never took off. She took off her boots and climbed onto her bunk, letting her feet dangle down. "I don't even know if there is a way." She said with disbelief.
Silvester grabbed his notebook off the end table and his blue pen. He opened the book and tapped his chin with the pen, brainstorming an idea. After a few long minutes, he finally came up with a plan. "Isn't there a homeless shelter being built next to the museum?"
Skylar perked up. "Yeah. Don't we get extra credit for helping out or something?"
Silvester's face lit up as Skylar mentioned this. He jumped out of bed and went to their closet, grabbing their backpack. He fished around and found his Tuesday folder with some paperwork in it. He pulled out the paperwork that Skylar was talking about. Indeed she was right. The paperwork stated if students helped set up the homeless shelter, they would get extra credit. "You're right. Let's go help out the shelter and scope out the place. Since it's near the museum, maybe we can use it to get to the building without being seen. Nobody is moving in for quite some time."
Skylar fell back into her bunk. "Silver, I'm suspended. I can't do that."
Silvester laughed. "Oh, sure you can. Your suspension is technically over, you spent it in the hospital healing your nose."
"Still can't go back for another week regardless." She moaned.
"Nothing in this paper says if you can't go to school you can't go here. It's worth a shot, I mean you could use the credit." He handed the paper up to Skylar and she glanced at it.
"Yeah, I guess you're right, but who knows if mom is going to let us."
Silvester raised an eyebrow. "Sky, it's a homeless shelter. Mom will help us, she isn't like that." He smiled a bit. "And we aren't even doing anything technically bad, you know. We are helping the community."
Skylar smiled a bit. "Yeah, I guess you're right. I guess we will ask mom about it tomorrow." Skylar glanced at the calendar that hung above their dresser and noticed the next day was Saturday. "There goes our weekend."
The next morning while everyone was eating breakfast, Silvester handed Carmelita the flier about the homeless shelter. Carmelita carefully read it. "Skylar, you want to help a homeless shelter?" She was suspicious about this, as Skylar wasn't the type to normally do charity work.
"Well, it'll help with my grades. I already checked and I can go." She smiled.
Silvester's heart was racing. "I figured I'd help her, plus I like to help."
Carmelita was hesitant, but she decided to let the twins go. "Okay, fine, you two can go. Lord knows Skylar needs it."
Silvester smiled real wide at his sister. "Awesome! We just need you to drop us off at the shelter by 11 if that is okay."
Carmelita handed Silvester back the flier. "Okay, and I guess I pick you two up at 5? Are they feeding you?"
Silvester didn't know, but he had to come up with something. "Yes, I think they're having…"
"Sandwiches. They're having sandwiches." Skylar nodded to her brother.
Carmelita was still suspicious, but decided to let them go. After all, it was charity work, how bad could it be?
Carmelita dropped off Skylar and Silvester at the homeless shelter and kissed them goodbye. After she left, Skylar harshly rubbed her cheek, trying to wipe the kiss off. "I hate it when mom does that."
"And I hate lying to her." Silvester growled.
"Hey, don't try to blame this on me. This was your idea."
"Well you just HAVE to go take that artifact."
"Only to get dad back." Skylar felt like their fight last night was starting all over again. "Look, let's just get this over with. You and I will get the extra credit and also get the scope of this place."
The shelter was mostly finished. It was a 3 story solid red brick building with lots of windows symmetrically placed around the building. It almost looked like a jail, or perhaps a very old school. The landscaping was nonexistent, but it had a concrete path that led to the large wooden front doors. The twins walked up to the doors and knocked, shortly being greeted by a friendly owl. She was dressed just like an old teacher, wearing a long brown skirt, a button up short sleeve white shirt, round glasses, and her blonde hair was tied in a bun. "Why hello!"
"Hi." Silvester waved back. "We're from James Taylor elementary, and we're here to help with the shelter." She showed the lady the flier he got from school.
"Oh, yes! Come in!" She invited the twins inside, leading them through a solid white room. The room was covered with dirty white tile and had white painted walls. "This is the lobby. As you see, we aren't finished with it yet. Here, I'll take you to the cafeteria and I'll brief you two on what we need done. What are your names anyway? I'll write you down to receive your extra credit."
"I'm Silvester Fox, and this is my twin sister Skylar Fox."
The lady smiled. "Oh, you're Carmelita's children! I've heard so much about you two. I volunteer at the interpol once a month. My name is Miss Hargrave."
Skylar looked over at Silvester and just shrugged. They followed the lady into the cafeteria, which was clearly unfinished. It was a very large room with another room hidden in the back. The room had no doors and had some counters in it covered with glass and places to put food in. The floor was the same solid white tile in the lobby and the walls were painted a light gray color. There were a handful of tables, but not many, and they looked to be in rough shape. The tables were white folding tables and had a few black folding chairs circling around them. Skylar spotted some other students sitting at these tables, and looking even closer she spotted Savannah. She sighed with relief knowing someone from her class was in this with her.
Skylar sat next to Savannah with Silvester sitting across from them. "So you're here too huh?" Skylar whispered to Savannah.
"Yeah, my mom made me come." She whispered back.
Skylar examined Savannah closely and could tell she was for sure a clone of Penelope. She looked just like her, just without the glasses, and her hair was shorter.
"Okay everyone!" Miss Hargrave entered the cafeteria with an excited attitude. "There are lots of things we need to do today, but if we all work together, we can get it done fast!" She opened a large box full of supplies that was next to her. "First, I need people to make the beds upstairs. We have the mattresses ready, so all you need to do is put some sheets on the mattress, a pillow, and a blanket. Who wants to volunteer for that?"
Skylar smiled big. She knew this was something she had to do so she could get a good look upstairs. She happily raised her hand, with Savannah even following. Skylar smiled, as she was glad someone other than her brother was going to help her out with something.
"Okay, awesome! Skylar and Savannah! What two lovely ladies." Soon, a few more people entered surrounding Miss Hargrave. They quickly grabbed some pillows, blankets, and sheet sets for the girls to work with. "These are my helpers." Miss Hargrave explained while the helpers were working. "If you have any questions, please ask any one of these guys, okay?" She grabbed her clipboard and examined it. "Okay, next is the pantry. I need someone to help us organize the food into the pantry and the cooler. You won't have to lift anything heavy, in fact I don't want you to. All you will need to do is just help organize. Sound good?"
Silvester smiled as he thought this was the perfect job for him. He could get a close examination on any back entries the building might have, and how the building is structured from the outside. He happily raised his hand, along with another young boy who he did not recognize.
"Okay, so Silvester and Mason." Miss Hargrave explained some other roles as well including decorating, cleaning up, stocking the restrooms, and a lot of other things. The assigning seemed to take forever, but it eventually ended. Skylar and Savannah quickly took the bedsheets and marched upstairs. Skylar was eager to get a good look at what was going on, so she happily ran up the stairs.
"Slow down, Skylar. We have to work together." Savannah gasped as she was walking up the stairs. When she got to the top to meet the impatient Skylar, she examined the blue cast around her nose. "I see they casted your nose." She laughed.
"Don't remind me. We should probably get started on these beds."
"So tell me, how did you manage to beat up Kennedy?" Savannah eagerly asked. "The whole school has been talking about it all week."
Skylar rolled her eyes. She walked into an empty room with a set of twin beds. The room had matching white tile and white undecorated walls. She almost felt she was in some sort of asylum. "I bet they have. Look, I just want to get this over with. I'm only doing this to get my grade up."
Savannah laughed a bit. "Well, you might want to know Kennedy isn't coming back."
Skylar looked back at her and raised an eyebrow. Now she had her attention. "She's not?"
Savannah shook her head. "Nope. Her mother pulled her out of school after the incident. Word around school is that she doesn't want Kennedy to get in trouble."
Skylar shook her head in disbelief. "That spoiled brat. She just gets whatever she wants."
Savannah shrugged. "I don't know for sure, it's just what everyone else has been saying. I mean, she was supposed to come back a few days ago after the suspension, but she never came back. In fact, her Tuesday folder isn't even on the shelf anymore, and you know what that means."
Skylar smiled. If what Savannah was saying was true, she would never have to deal with Kennedy another day in her life. She was unsure what her mother did about the situation, but Skylar imagined they probably pressed charges. Skylar remembered having to speak to the principal and a police officer several times when she was in the hospital, but they never explained why. Skylar wasn't really too mad about what had happened anymore, but she was still upset about her dumb looking nose. She wasn't supposed to get the cast off for another few months.
"If it makes you feel any better, the cast looks cool. Blue suits you." Savannah smiled, trying to cheer up Skylar.
Skylar smiled. "Thanks." She started to fit sheets around the beds and fluffed up pillows. As she was working, she looked around the building to see if there was anything unusual. She noticed several holes and loose ceiling tiles. She figured she could climb through the ceiling to the other end of the building, but she would need to clarify with Silvester if this was possible. She also noticed several air vents that she could easily squeeze through. She quickly thought of a way she could climb through these, but continued to make the beds to not draw suspicion onto herself.
"My mom has told me a lot about you guys." Savannah paused her bed making and frowned. "Hey, I'm sorry for not really hanging out with you guys before. I've always wanted to talk to you and your brother, but I was afraid you guys were not willing to talk to me. I heard about your dad."
Skylar perked up when she said this. She never considered Savannah a friend, more of just a friendly acquaintance or a buddy at most. She found it rather unusual for her to be speaking to her this way, but continued to listen to what she had to say.
"I hope I'm not intruding on your personal life, I'm not really good with these things." Savannah scratched the back of her head. "If it makes you feel any better, I don't have a dad either, like at all. I was made in a lab. It's…well it's not easy to live knowing that." She giggled a bit. "I know you and your brother used to get upset when your dad was brought up. I'm sorry I never really mentioned anything to you then, I should've. I just don't like getting close to people as I…well I move a lot."
Skylar looked over at her curiously. "Why is that?"
Savannah shrugged. "I'm not sure. I mean I haven't moved in a while, since second grade. I guess mom finally got comfortable I guess. She always got nervous when police cars started to patrol our streets, so she would just pack up and move."
Skylar didn't bother to ask why that was, since she already knew the answer. "That sucks. I'm sorry to hear that."
Savannah smiled a bit. "Well, I'm glad we are getting to talk now. We'll probably see a lot of each other in the future, so I figured we should start to get to know each other now."
Skylar smiled. She loved the idea of potentially having a new friend, someone she could easily relate to besides her brother. "Yeah, I'm glad we're talking too. You seem super cool. We should hang out sometime, you know, without our moms around."
"I agree." Savannah fluffed up some more pillows for the beds. Skylar did the same, still thinking about a plan to break it through the shelter. After all, as far as she knew, they were getting that artifact tonight.
Silvester lifted semi heavy boxes into the pantry, organizing each box on the shelves. The pantry was huge, one of the biggest rooms he has ever seen. The floor was concrete and the walls were the same brick the building was made of. Black shelves were securely attached to the walls and freestanding around the room. Silvester and another young boy had a large pile of dry food to go through, so they didn't really talk as much. Silvester also was a bit shy, so talking to new people was not really his thing.
He paused for a bit to look around, acting as if he was taking a break. He noticed an exit door on the other side that didn't appear to be connected to a fire alarm. He looked over at the young boy's direction and spoke rather loudly to make sure he was heard. "Hey, uh Mason? Hey man, I'm going to go outside real quick to get more storage boxes. I'll be back." Silvester hurried out the exit door, noticing a dumpster that was fenced in. He looked up and noticed several vents surrounding the building. They appeared to be air vents, and if Skylar could spot the other ends from upstairs, she could possibly squeeze out one of them.
He also noticed some wires coming from each window. They only appeared to be clothes lines, despite a washer and dryer being present in the building. He observed one of the clothes lines tied onto an antenna on another building neighboring the shelter. He quickly realized that Skylar could run along the line and hop onto the other building, which would allow her to enter through the other side of the museum. He looked over at where his mother worked and noticed it was facing the opposite direction, so Skylar was most likely not to be seen. Quickly gathering a plan in his head, he smiled and grabbed some empty boxes so he didn't look suspicious. He re-entered the building and continued his organizing, all the while planning out the heist in his head. He knew this time, Skylar and him were going to succeed.
