Kyouka Jirou wanted nothing more than to die right now at this point of her life as she looked down at the ground.
As soon as she said that to Deku, everything just stopped for her as if seconds stunned into hours in an instant.
She couldn't believe what she just said to him and what's worse is how she said it. Stuttering from embarrassment was one of the worst possible ways she could've talked to him for the first time.
She had a clear cut plan for the rest of the year, watch him from afar like usual and get used to his activities at school before finally talking to him. But this was a scenario her plan could never have accounted for.
'Why was he even leaving the roof?!' She thought to herself as she tried her best not to freak out.
This had to be a nightmare, just some cruel nightmare right before her first day of middle school.
There's no way that she's been able to be this unlucky in a single day. Her first year in middle school with him was supposed to be perfect. Not a single thing was supposed to go wrong, but everything did go wrong.
This being all one big nightmare was the only explanation she could come up with at the moment, but in her heart she knew that everything that's happening was reality.
'Life is so cruel. Why did I have to be the unluckiest girl in the whole world?' She internally asked herself as she was on the verge of tears.
However, one thing she didn't notice was that she wasn't the only one on the verge of tears.
The green haired boy didn't really notice the stuttering or the girl in front of him saying thank you to him. But he did notice one thing that stuck out to him as soon as he heard it.
Deku
He didn't have to remind himself why he disliked that name so much. That name was just one big reminder of how useless he is and how he'll never amount to anything in life.
Unfortunately the boy wasn't as good as holding in his tears as the purple haired girl as tears started to form in his eyes.
Did Kacchan really start to spread the word about him so fast? Did he have everyone in his class call him Deku on the first day? What if he's already having the entire school call him that? Was this girl sent by Kacchan to mess with him or is she trying to make a name for herself by targeting him almost right away?
He couldn't believe that his entire middle school life was ruined on the first day before lunch even ended.
'Life is so cruel. Why did I have to be the unluckiest boy in the whole world?' He asked himself as his tears began to fall.
Kyouka noticed a drop of water land onto the floor, but was very confused since the sky was clear with not a cloud in sight.
Then another drop of water landed on the floor followed by a couple more.
She now decided to slowly look up to see what was wrong with the sky. 'They're all landing on the same spot so what's happe-'
When she looked up, she saw the sad face of her protector with tears streaming down his face. It wasn't water at all that was dropping onto the ground, it was Deku's tears.
'No. Did I do this to him? Does he hate me now? After what he did for me 4 years ago, this is how I pay him back?' She angrily thought to herself as she began to cry now, no longer being able to hold in her tears.
Her life was now officially over. All that time watching him, all that time admiring him, all that time planning her meeting with him was all for nothing now.
Tears started to stream down Kyouka's cheeks as they began to fall onto the ground next to Deku's tears. She couldn't believe this. She couldn't believe that she lost any chance she had with him in an instant.
Meanwhile, the quirkless boy soon tried to stop his tears as he reminded himself that All Might always smiles no matter how bad things get. He could make it through this, a real hero wouldn't give up so easily.
A real hero would always face his greatest fears and greatest weaknesses with a smile.
He started to wipe his face with his sleeve, trying to dry the tears as he began to force a smile on his face. "Y-Yeah that's right, it's Deku."
Before he got to say anything else he finally noticed the girl's face. She was crying just like him. What reason did she have to cry? He didn't make her feel bad did he? Even if she was a bully, she doesn't deserve to feel as sad as he is.
"A-Are you okay? P-Please don't cry." He said to her in a bit of a choked up voice while keeping a smile on his face.
Showing this type of kindness to someone crying just seems like the right thing to do. Even if that very person hates his guts.
Kyouka widened her eyes at what she just heard. Is he concerned for her? But that can't be right, she just made him cry. He has to hate her. It doesn't make any sense. Is her mind playing tricks on her?
"I-I hope you're not sad or anything." She heard the green haired boy say as if he's the one that did her wrong.
That smile of his was starting to make her feel better, it made her believe that everything would be alright. That's the smile of her hero.
But she didn't deserve to see his amazing smile. So why was he showing it to her? She knew Deku was a good person, but this is too good for her. She didn't know anyone could be so pure hearted.
Kyouka then looked at the hand that was still outstretched to her even after all of this time and gave a small smile as she took it, starting to pull herself up.
His hand felt so soft and caring like an angel from heaven. Even if the hand was frail, she could feel a certain strength from it as if it could protect her from anything. She wanted nothing more right now than to hold this hand forever up until her death bed.
But as she fully stood up, she reluctantly let go of his hand in order to avoid further complicating this situation. She didn't realize that tears were still streaming down her face as she looked at Deku.
The green eyed boy was now trying to do his best to make this situation go as well as possible. "I-I'm so sorry for making you cry! P-Please forgive me!"
Kyouka looked at the preteen boy, very confused on why he was apologizing to her. All he did was be helpful to her even after making him cry. Finally she gathered up the courage to finally say something else to him. "W-Why are you apologizing? Y-You've done nothing wrong."
She wiped her tears as she said that, trying to stop the crying, but they just continued to stream down her face.
"B-But I made you cry. What kind of person makes someone cry on the first day of school?" He said as he continued to keep that smile on his face, feeling less forced.
Kyouka gave him a small smile as she shook her head as her tears slowly began to stop. "I-I could say the same thing about myself. I don't know what I did to make you cry, but I'm so sorry."
The boy widened his eyes at hearing this. So this girl didn't come to bully him? So why did she call him Deku when seeing him? Is she not aware of what that name means to him? He was now curious about why she was here to begin with. "S-So if I may ask, what are you doing up here?"
The purple haired girl flinched a little at the question, not knowing how to properly answer. She couldn't tell him that she followed him here or else he would think that she was creepy. It started to seem like things are getting better between them now and there was no way she was going to ruin it. This was a once in a lifetime opportunity to turn this situation around and she would die before wasting it.
"Umm I...I've always liked eating lunch in unique places so I figured the roof was a nice place to start my first day with." She said, hoping Deku would buy her story.
The boy had absolutely no reason to doubt her whatsoever. She seemed like a nice and honest girl so he would accept this story with zero issues. Now there was one more thing he wondered. "Oh okay, but I have one more question. W-Where did you learn the name Deku?"
He clearly felt nervous asking the question and Kyouka noticed. Was something wrong with her knowing his name? Does he know that she was late to attendance? But that couldn't have been the case, he was too focused in his notebook to notice that she was sure of it.
Once again, she had to make up some story about that. Telling him that she's remembered that name for years would be even weirder than following him up here. But she just couldn't come up with any situation where she could've heard that name without sounding like a total weirdo. "W-Well you see umm…"
The green haired boy then sighed as he looked at the ground. "I'm guessing you were there when Kacchan talked to me in the halls right before class huh?"
Kyouka had no clue what he was talking about whatsoever, but she just nodded since it seemed like the best way to get out of that question. "Y-Yes that's right...I was there."
She felt absolutely horrible lying to the innocent boy, but she had no choice if she wanted to get off to a better start with him.
Deku looked really nervous as he continued to look at the ground, hesitating to tell her the truth. "I-I'm not sure if you're aware, but my full name is…"
Kyouka widened her eyes as her smile began to grow a little. She would finally learn his full name after all this time. No longer would he be just Deku to her. Now she would finally have a proper name to call him by.
"Izuku Midoriya."
Kyouka's smile instantly disappeared as she heard that name. 'Izuku Midoriya?'
No that couldn't be right, his name had to be Deku. She couldn't have been wrong about his name for 4 years. There was no way that she's had another stroke of bad luck after so many right?
"I-Izuku Midoriya right? S-So why were you called Deku from the other boy?" She asked, feeling scared for his answer.
The boy whose actual name is Izuku started to play with his sleeves a little, only getting more and more nervous as he answered her questions. "A-Actually Kacchan calls me that to insult me. I-It's supposed to mean I'm useless."
The preteen girl immediately felt an arrow pierce right through her heart as he said that. She had been indirectly insulting her protector for 4 years without even realizing it. How heartless could she be to do this to him? She didn't even have the right name and worst of all the name she's been calling him this whole time has been an insult.
She felt like she truly didn't deserve someone like him to be around her now. He's so amazing and considerate while she didn't even know his real name until now, but instead was calling him an insult from the same guy she hated. Is she just like him then? These thoughts started to make her tear up again as she gripped her skirt.
'I guess it really is over huh? And here I thought I could salvage this.' She hopelessly thought to herself as the tears streamed down her face like before.
Izuku then looked at the girl's face and started to panic as she started to cry again. "H-Hey why are you crying now?! I-I'm so sorry if I did anything else to make you feel sad just now!"
"I-It's just I can't believe that I thought your name was Deku when in reality it was just an insult." Kyouka said in a choked up voice. "I-I swear I didn't mean to."
Izuku rapidly shook his head and smiled to try to calm her down. "I-It's no problem really! I-It's not your fault for not knowing my real name. T-There's probably a bunch of people who think my name's Deku!"
"S-So you're not mad or sad for me thinking your name was Deku?" The young girl asked as she started to wipe her tears, feeling more safe as she saw his smile.
"N-No of course not! I-If anything I should feel bad for not knowing your name at all. At least you had something to call me." He said to try to reassure the girl.
The preteen girl started to wipe her tears as she looked into the green eyes right in front of her. "Oh yeah...My name is Kyouka Jirou."
Izuku smiled a little wider as he looked at the girl whose name he just learned. "Again I'm very sorry for crying right away. I should've asked questions before jumping to conclusions."
Kyouka shook her head as she began to smile again. "It's okay, I'm also at fault for crying and making you panic. Maybe we can properly start over and have introductions while we have lunch together?"
She didn't know why she took that shot, but with how today has been going it seemed like her only option. Usually she would wait a long time before saying this time, but today felt different. Today was full of risks and she hoped that she wouldn't regret asking this.
The boy's face turned a little red at this offer as he tried to contain his inner thoughts. 'Lunch? WITH A GIRL?! WAIT I WAS TALKING TO A GIRL THIS WHOLE TIME!'
He couldn't believe that he was able to do all of that talking before without being frozen in place, but he's thankful he did. Unfortunately he felt like he was going to freeze up more in the future now that he fully realizes that this girl is being nice to him. 'I hope I can survive this.'
Izuku nodded as he did his best to hide his embarrassment. "Y-Yeah that sounds nice Jirou."
He figured he could get his pencil after lunch. After all, now he had something else to do other than write in his notebook. Getting to know Kyouka Jirou.
Kyouka's face also had a light shade of red as he said her last name before she bent down to pick up the boy's notebook before handing it to him. "Let's take a seat then Midoriya."
She began walking to a wall on the roof as Izuku followed. With the both of them feeling nervous for two different reasons. With one being too shy to talk to a girl and the other being too shy to talk to the one she's admired for 4 years.
'I can't believe this is happening, after 4 years I'm finally talking to him. This wasn't supposed to happen so soon, but there's a part of me that's thankful it did. Maybe I can make this work after all.' She thought to herself with hope as she sat down against the wall.
'Time to finally get closer to Izuku Midoriya, my one and only hero.'
A/N
Okay wow sorry guys for taking so long to update! After publishing yesterday's chapter I used the rest of the day as personal me time and when I worked on today's chapter, I procrastinated a lot. I also tried to decide how exactly the meeting went between Izuku and Kyouka.
Either way I hope you guys liked this chapter even though I personally feel like I could've done way better. I'll try to get the next chapter published earlier tomorrow, but I won't make any promises.
By the way, I hope you guys didn't mind the stuttering that much. I promise that this chapter will have the most stuttering in the entire story. I just thought it would work for this chapter considering that they're both crying and nervous almost the entire time here.
Also I have a few important questions regarding this story:
Do you guys think I should make these chapters a lot longer or is the length just fine(not counting the A/N section of course)? If I were to make them longer then of course updates would come slower.
Should I hurry up the pace or go slower in my pace of the story? So far I personally like the pace and to give you guys a reference of the pace, I plan on adapting the first episode of MHA in either chapter 10 or 11 and the actual UA entrance Exam in chapter 16 or 17. But of course the entrance exam could always happen sooner or later depending how many chapters I plan on making the first two episodes with adding content in between the 10 months when Izuku trains.
Last question, should I continue with these review sections at the end of the A/N? I'm just wondering if people like that I respond to reviews or if they're a waste of time to read. Personally they don't affect me at all since they're all really easy to respond to unless I'm tired or something.
Please give your feedback on these questions and be brutally honest. Any feedback is appreciated, negative or positive.
But for now I'll keep doing these review sections!
Ability King KK: Yeah I was a little tempted to make this a perfect meeting, but I find it entertaining when the characters face obstacles. And trust me Kyouka will be having future obstacles, especially in UA.
shadowwriter01: It's a little brief, but in chapter one Bakugo calls Izuku Deku right in front of Kyouka.
Im The Person: Okay first off wow that is one long review, I'm impressed to be honest. Don't worry, I already plan on how Kyoukas friendship will affect Izuku so you don't have to worry about forcing me to do anything. Regarding Bakugo, I will be semi bashing him, but I won't take it overboard. The bashing will mostly come from Kyoukas side. He will definitely get into UA cause remember Bakugo isn't all hype. He's actually really talented and intelligent. I'm not sure exactly what I plan on handing him after, but I know Izuku with his good heart will still respect Bakugo. And with Izuku's muscles, I think I will do something for Kyouka fangirling, but it would only be for a moment and for comedic purposes. But I promise you this will not make her love him more. I plan on pointing this out when it happens. Alright I hope you liked my long response to your long review.
SnarkySensei: Oh don't worry, Kyouka won't be getting THAT creepy. It will be a mostly innocent obsession, but of course when they're older she'll get a little possessive over him.
Well I hope you guys are enjoying this story so far, please feel free to leave a review!
