2 Months Later
The month was now June and the students at Aldera middle school had finished their midterm exams just a day ago and they would be getting their final scores by the end of today.
Izuku was walking to school, wondering if Kyouka was ahead of him or something. 'She probably woke up early to make sure to get to school on time. Well either way I'll see Jirou in class when I get there.'
He took in a calming breath as he looked at the birds passing by him. He was certainly at a false sense of security, not knowing a certain figure approaching him from behind.
"Hey, Midoriya."
"Ahh!" The boy screamed as he looked back to see his purple haired friend right in front of him. This caused his face to go red as he looked down to the ground. "J-Jirou you couldn't have given me a warning first?"
The young girl laughed a little as she crossed her arms. "Well I'm sorry, I saw you right in front of me and I wanted to say hey."
In reality, this wasn't the first or even the 10th time that she's snuck up on him from behind. But every time he would have the same reaction and it would be so adorable every time he did it. It definitely wouldn't be getting old for her anytime soon.
She remembered the first time she did that to him about a month ago when there was one night she overslept from spending the entire night writing in her notebook about how much Izuku impressed her with his analytical skills after the two of them witnessed some heroes stopping a villain that day. She had to rush to school so she wouldn't miss walking there with the green haired boy and came up to him from behind, getting that reaction.
Ever since then, she would come up to him from behind once in a while just to see that reaction of his that she loved to see.
She knew that she should feel a little bad for taking advantage of his shyness like this, but she just can't resist seeing that reaction every time.
Soon enough, Izuku started to regain his composure and smiled at her as the red in his face started to go away. "It's okay…So how do you think you did on yesterday's exam."
"Umm, I think I did okay...Hopefully, I got at least above 70 points." The girl said as she rubbed her arm a little.
For all the studying she's been doing before the exam, she would at least hope that she did well at it. She even had to cut her time watching Izuku in class to pay attention to the teacher these past couple of weeks in order to understand the material better so it better have been worth it.
"I'm sure you did good on the exam, if anything I probably did kind of bad. Even though I felt like I knew the material, I guess I just had a bad feeling during the test. Maybe it was just the nerves." The aspiring hero said, trying to hide how nervous he was about the results.
Sure he personally considered himself to be a good enough student, but this being a midterm exam in middle school was making him crazy nervous. His future would certainly depend on his future school work, especially if he wanted to apply to U.A once he's a third year student.
Even though he knew that Kyouka would understand how nervous he was and would probably help him through his nerves, he felt like he had to keep these thoughts to himself to not burden her with his issues.
The preteen girl internally sighed at the way he talked about himself. She knew he did amazing on the test, but here he was doubting himself. She's always wondered why he's always had so little confidence, but if she had to guess it was because of his bully.
Not too long after her first day of school, she learned that Kacchan's name is actually Katsuki Bakugo from attendance, but of course, she didn't care as much that she got the wrong name as she did for Izuku. She would keep calling him Kacchan, but she assumed it was a term of endearment since all of his lackeys call him that as well.
Every time she witnessed Bakugo talk to her hero, he would always be talking down on him and she could tell that he would always be a little bit sad every time that happened.
She couldn't let her protector always have so little confidence in himself, she knew that she had to help him in any way she possibly can.
She's been trying this for the past 2 months and she's been noticing that he at least doesn't feel as embarrassed about his talks about quirks even though he still gets a little shy at times.
"What are you talking about? I'm sure you did great. Someone as smart as you is sure to ace this exam?" The young girl said with a smile as she gave him a small thumbs up.
This compliment caused the preteen boy's face to go red again as he looked to the side. "W-Well I don't know about that. I-I could only hope."
The girl would've preferred a more confident answer from him, but at least he wasn't talking down on himself so it was definitely a start.
Soon the two friends entered the middle school and made their way to class. "Midoriya, at lunch I have something I want to show you with my quirk so get that notebook of yours ready."
"W-Wait isn't it against the rules to use your quirk at school?" The boy asked nervously, not wanting his friend to get in trouble.
However, he had to admit that he was a little curious about what she wanted to show him regarding her quirk. Since they first met, he's been writing notes about her quirk along with all the ideas he has for ways she can implement it in battle or in stealth. There was a small excitement he felt at the fact that he could be adding something new today.
The purple haired girl laughed a little at how much of a goody two-shoes this boy was. "It'll be fine, it will only be for a couple of seconds, and plus no one is ever on the roof with us."
The quirkless boy sighed, accepting her logic as he nodded. "I-I guess you're right, but only for a couple of seconds okay. There's always the chance of someone coming up there and you could be reported."
"Of course, you know I don't like getting in trouble either. I promise you'll like it." She looked confident as she said that as if knowing how much the boy will love seeing her quirk in action.
Now the two of them finally reached their class and sat in their respective seats as their teacher greeted everyone before taking attendance.
After taking attendance he began to congratulate the students on yesterday's exam before going on about future assignments.
But a certain purple haired girl ignored all of this talking as she rested her chin on her hand with her elbow propped up on the desk.
Kyouka started to reflect on these past 2 months with Izuku, recalling every moment they shared together since they first met.
She could remember that day perfectly, sure it didn't go off to the perfect start she originally envisioned, but thinking about it now there was no other way she would have it.
She was so confident that her life was over that day after he started to cry and if anything her life only got better.
Since then she's had to buy a whole new notebook since her first one got filled up. Before middle school, her notes would mostly consist of one page, but now they would always be at least three pages and in some occasions, it would go up to five.
God at this rate she would have to buy tons of more notebooks by the end of their middle school life. But she wouldn't mind that, it's very much worth it to be able to write down all of her thoughts about Izuku along with all the things he's done that day.
She could probably write a whole book about him in a couple of months with how much material she has, but she won't dwell on that thought too much.
For now, she just wanted to think about how every day has been with him. From when they start the day walking to school together and ending the day walking home together. Every minute of those moments were absolutely perfect. She couldn't imagine her life in any other way right now.
Since meeting him, she's woken up every single day with a bright smile plastered on her face. Her parents were obviously happy to see their daughter wake up happy every day and didn't bother questioning the reason, figuring her middle school life was just going that well.
The only days where she isn't as happy is on weekends since Izuku doesn't really go out much unless it would be for groceries, but she knew she would be seeing him on Monday anyways so she mainly looked forward to that instead. She would use her free time either writing about him, practicing music, or practice some techniques with her quirk.
Sometimes when she's in class, watching him pay attention to the teacher in front of her, she pinches her arm to make sure she isn't dreaming. Everything just seems too good to be true. She never would've imagined that 4 years ago, she would be friends with her protector in her first year of middle school.
Unfortunately, she won't be able to see him as much in about a month since summer vacation was nearing and she wouldn't be seeing him until September. However, she knew that she could wait forever for him as long as she knew that she would be getting him back in her life eventually.
She certainly was a patient girl since she spent 4 years being content with just watching him until finally being able to talk to him.
But she knew for a fact that she would be very excited to be able to see him once the 2nd term of middle school begins. Waking up extra early that day was a must if she wanted to make sure that his first time seeing her in over a month wouldn't be a bad experience.
She was more than ready to learn a lot more about him in their 2nd term than what she's already learned.
So far she's learned a good amount about him within these 2 months and she already considers herself to be the person who knows most about him.
Her original guess about All Might being his favorite hero was correct. Actually, All Might was more than Izuku's favorite hero, he was his idol. All he wants is to be a hero just like All Might, to save people with a smile on his face. Even if he didn't realize it, he was already her hero and that's how she would always see him.
She's also learned that his favorite food is katsudon which made her want to learn how to make that one day. He would always talk about how his mom makes the best katsudon so she would definitely have to ask his mom for the recipe when they finally meet one day.
She remembered all of this stuff as if it was important studying material for the most important test in her life. She felt like every time they talked, she would understand him more and more. Life was going so smoothly for her so far and she hoped it would continue for the rest of middle school and in high school.
Maybe one day she'll gather up the courage to finally tell him everything. Then they could possibly be more than friends and-
"Umm Jirou? It's time for lunch…" She heard Izuku say to her as she widened her eyes and looked around, seeing all the other students getting out of their seats.
Kyouka then looked to the right to see the green haired boy right next to her which made her face go red. "O-Oh it is? I-I must've had my head in the clouds, my bad."
'Did I really spend that whole time thinking about me and Izuku's time together?' She thought to herself, not minding it that much as she began to stand up and walk to the roof with him like she did every day in school.
Soon the two preteens were on the roof and they both sat against the wall like usual.
"Alright, Midoriya are you ready to see what I can do with my quirk?" She asked as she opened her backpack, reaching inside of it.
Izuku nodded with a smile as he grabbed his notebook and pencil. "Yep and I even got my notebook ready like you told me to."
The purple haired girl internally smirked, ready to impress her hero as she pulled out an apple. "Alright just watch this, but it's going to get a little messy."
She then stuck one of her earphone jacks into the apple before starting to channel the sound of her heartbeat into it, causing it to vibrate before exploding into pieces.
'Please like it. Please like it. Please like it.' She hoped to herself, with the small chance of him not being impressed by what she just did.
However, she had nothing to worry about as the quirkless boy's eyes started to gleam as he began to examine the pieces of the exploded apple.
"That's amazing Jirou, with that kind of ability your quirk has so much more potential now! You could possibly destroy concrete walls with enough strength. Wait but how did you create the vibrations? Do they come from your body? Do you have to produce them? Can you control how strong or weak the vibrations are? Would the power be doubled if you used both earphone jacks? What if you could-" The quirk fanboy then began on another of his muttering sprees while jotting down all of his words into his notebook, happy with the new information he got.
With her quirk, he knew she would make a great hero someday. With abilities like these, he wouldn't be surprised if she made it into the top 10 in the future.
He was happy that his friend had great potential like this and he hoped that when she gets older and more popular that she doesn't forget about him. But he didn't want to think about that topic too much right now and just wanted to enjoy how life currently is.
Kyouka wasn't aware of her friend's inner thoughts and smiled as she watched him mutter and write in his notebook. She really did wonder what exactly he wrote about her in that notebook, but at the same time, she kind of wants to wait until he's done writing her section of the notebook. She was confident that there would be a lot more writing in the future about her quirk.
Soon the boy finished with his writing as his muttering came to an end before he closed his notebook with his face being a little red. "Umm, how long was I doing that."
"Only about 5 minutes, but I don't mind. It's pretty interesting to see what ideas you have for my quirk. Also for one of your questions, the answer is that I channel the sound of my heartbeat into the objects where my earphone jacks are plugged in." She explained to him as she saw the young boy add that into his notebook real quick.
"I didn't know your quirk could do that, that's really impressive Jirou. I can only imagine the possibilities with it." He said, being on the verge of fanboy mode. But he stopped himself before he began another muttering spree to enjoy the rest of his lunch with his friend.
The two of them now began to have one of their usual conversations as they ate lunch together, trying their best not to think about the exam scores they would be getting very soon.
It was now nearing the end of class and the teacher looked at all the students. "Alright everyone, it's time to show off your exam scores."
He then grabbed his chalk and began writing down the test scores of each student, going off alphabetical order with some students sighing in relief and some sighing in disappointment.
Kyouka was currently crossing her fingers for both herself and Izuku to get good scores. 'Come on. Come on, at least a 70.'
She then saw her name written down with the number 84 next to it which made her sigh in relief since all her studying paid off.
Soon the rest of the test scores were written down and she smiled widely at what she compared two scores to each other.
Izuku Midoriya: 100
Katsuki Bakugo: 98
She did her best to hide a smirk at the fact that Bakugo didn't do better than the green haired boy for once. 'I hope this hurts his ego.'
Currently, a red eyed boy's hand had smoke coming out of it as he spoke quietly to himself. "That nerd's dead."
The preteen girl widened her eyes as she heard that with her quirk, looking at him. 'I swear to god, that bastard better not try anything with Izuku.'
She clenched her fists, tempted to just punch the boy right now before anything happened. But she knew Izuku wouldn't want her hurting anyone even if it was Bakugo. She would say that she wished he was a bad boy, but she would just be lying to herself.
After a few more minutes class ended with the other students along with the teacher leaving the classroom. She started to get up as well and stopped as she saw Bakugo stomp over to Izuku and forcefully lifted him up by his shirt collar. "What the fuck did you do to cheat on the exam Deku?! I know you didn't do better than me with your natural talent! If there's a question I didn't understand there's no way in hell you would understand it!"
"K-Kacchan I swear I didn't cheat. I-I just studied really hard. I-I probably just got lucky on that question! Y-Yeah it must've been a fluke!" Izuku tried to explain as he frantically waved his hands, clearly scared.
"Hey, you don't have to be such an asshole to him just because he did better than you did." Kyouka said as she glared at the boy.
"Fuck off, Earlobes, this doesn't concern you! Now tell me what you did Deku!" He started to have small explosions form on his hands as the boy cowered in fear.
"Come on just leave him alone, he's not doing anything." She said more angrily as her earphone jacks started to raise up which Izuku noticed before nodding at Bakugo.
"Y-Yeah I did cheat Kacchan. I-I'm sorry…It won't happen again." He said in a defeated tone as his hair hid his eyes.
Bakugo then threw Izuku back onto the chair which almost caused him to fall. "Good, don't do it again or else I'll have to really show you a lesson."
He then left the room with his lackeys laughing at what just happened before the purple haired girl made her way to her hero. "Hey Midoriya, I know you didn't cheat. That jerk doesn't know what he's talking about. You earned that score."
"Thanks, Jirou, but it's okay. I don't mind it really." The boy said as he wiped his eyes with his sleeve before looking at her with a smile. "I'm sure you're excited to tell your parents how well you did at the exam."
'Izuku.' Kyouka thought to herself in concern as she grabbed her arm, gently squeezing it. All she wants to do right now is push into what Bakugo's issue is, but she still felt like she needed more time to get that personal with Izuku. She could tell it was probably his most personal matter.
She gave a small nod, trying to hide her sadness at the situation as the boy continued smiling. "Y-Yeah let's go then…"
The two of them now started to exit the classroom before exiting school grounds and walking home. "Midoriya if you ever want to talk about something, you know I'll listen right?"
The quirkless boy then nodded as his smile never left his face. "Of course Jirou, I really appreciate that."
She had to resist gripping her chest with her heart feeling like it was aching terribly like the last time she saw him like this.
'Why do you always have to be a hero who smiles Izuku? Why can't you show that you're hurting on the inside instead of trying to make me feel better?' She wondered to herself as she looked at him.
"Okay then, but hey before we head home maybe I can show you some other things I can destroy with my quirk. Don't worry I promise it won't be any private property." She offered to him to hopefully raise his spirits even by a little bit.
Izuku looked at her and nodded as his smile got a bit smaller, seeming less forced. "Y-Yeah that would be nice, I could add more information to my notebook."
"Then let's go to a forest, I can probably destroy some branches and small stones or maybe I can try to test it out on something bigger." She said as they both started walking to a nearby forest with less tension being in the air now
'I need to know the real deal about him and Bakugo one day. I just have to understand it.'
A/N
Now that's a wrap for chapter 8! Yes I'm aware this is being posted extremely late and that's because I didn't start working on this chapter until 8pm and even then I had some stuff to take care of. But yeah that's my bad since today I was just feeling lazy and felt way too comfortable in bed doing nothing. It was just one of those days I guess.
Honestly I think this chapter turned out pretty well. I did want to go more in depth on Izuku's and Kyouka's time together the past 2 months, but I felt like I didn't have time for it personally. But I hope you guys don't mind what I did have in here. Maybe in future chapters I can go more in depth in stuff like that.
Also I'm not sure if I want the next chapter to go into their second year or continue directly from this chapter. All I know is that for a fact Kyouka will ask Izuku about Bakugo and learn more about their history no matter if it's a time skip or not. I definitely planned on this chapter being shorter, but I got a little carried away writing some scenes.
Now onto the reviews! (I'll probably make my decision about whether to keep doing these or not by chapter 15)
Ability King KK: Yeah I think you're right about Kyouka having to find out. I know for a fact she wouldn't tell a soul, but I kind of wanted her not to know to have that secret between them. But I guess the secret of Kyouka loving Izuku is enough. But I'm not sure if I'll have Kyouka let Izuku know that she knows about One For All.
Chuck Winanaki: I'm happy you enjoyed how I wrote their interactions together. There'll definitely be a lot more awkwardness and cuteness between them in the future.
MizuToriFNN: I definitely have a plan on how to take care of Kyouka so she won't witness Izuku meeting All Might right away. Don't worry it won't be some plot device like her being sick, but I think my way will make enough sense considering the situation they'll be in.
Whitetiger789: Thank you for sticking around and I hope you stay for future chapters. I don't think my version of Jirou would encourage Izuku to work unless it was his idea since she's the type to love him for who he is.
Im The Person: Hey no need to be sorry for having a long review, I'm glad my story is causing you to write out reviews this long. I was tempted to have Kyouka comment on it not being a condition, but I didn't want to break the flow with her believing in him to be a hero if that makes sense. Regarding Bakugo, I still will have him attend U.A because I have future plans with interactions with him and Jirou and he will definitely be important in certain plot elements in the future. Also it's going to be a lot of fun to write his and Jirous interaction when I get to the cultural festival arc (which will take a LONG time considering the school festival arc will definitely start near chapter 30 with my current plan). I'm sorry if that disappoints you in any way and I hope this doesn't make you dislike my story any more.
TheCartoonKing: Yeah a ship that gets very little attention and one that I personally discovered in fanfiction myself.
Alright that's it for reviews! By the way chapter 9 won't be out until tomorrow, April 14th. I'm going to be pretty busy for most of the day after I wake up.
Hope you guys still like this story, please feel free to leave a review!
