The month was now July with clear skies and nice warm weather with many middle school students preparing for final exams for the first term of their second year.
Meanwhile, Kyouka was doing her best not to yell out in frustration right now as she walked home with Izuku, doing her best to keep her emotions in check.
Tomorrow was July 15th, a very important day for her. Possibly being the most important day of the year.
Was it her birthday? No.
Parents' anniversary? No.
The day of the final exam? No.
That day would mark the day when the most amazing boy in the world was born. Tomorrow was Izuku's 14th birthday. But why was the purple haired girl so frustrated out of her mind?
She just couldn't think of what to do for the boy's birthday. For the 5 years that she's watched him, he's never had a big birthday party like most kids or even went out to eat with friends just to have fun. From what she could tell is that he's always just stayed at home, possibly celebrating with just his mom.
The girl remembered the first time she learned when Izuku's birthday was. She was still 8 years old so it hadn't even been a year of her watching him at the time. It was when he was walking home from school and had a little pin on his shirt that said happy birthday on it. It was probably a tradition that his elementary school had to celebrate every student's birthday and she confirmed this a year later when she saw the same pin on his shirt the same day.
But getting a gift wasn't the issue at all, the quirkless boy would probably be easy to get a gift for. For example, she could get him any type of All Might merchandise and she knew for a fact that he would love it. Hell, even if she didn't get him any gift it probably wouldn't make a difference to him.
She knew that he didn't care much about gifts or anything like that. That just wasn't in his nature. Like last year, when she wished him a simple happy birthday he started to cry tears of joy and acted like he got the most expensive birthday present.
She remembered when she panicked at his crying like usual before she saw his smile, feeling relieved that she didn't ruin his birthday.
She knew that she didn't really do anything for his birthday last year, but she thought that she hadn't earned that privilege yet considering they had only known each other for a few months at that point.
Maybe that was just her being scared about being too forward, but that's in the past now. This was a new year with the two of them being friends for over a year now and becoming officially best friends back in November. She had to properly celebrate his birthday this year, but the question was how she would go through with it.
She knew that she couldn't think too big, she didn't want to risk scaring him off with a big gesture like taking him to an expensive concert or something. Plus, she wasn't even aware of what kind of music he even likes so that would be hard enough as it is.
It definitely couldn't be too small either like giving him a high hive or buying him lunch. She didn't want to be that lame of a friend. She wanted to do something that would show him how much of a good friend she is.
'I just have to think of something soon! I'm going crazy over this!' She thought to herself, resisting pulling her hair out of frustration.
She then gently bit the tip of her thumb, trying to come up with anything to make Izuku happy for his birthday. She wanted this to be one of his most memorable birthdays of all time.
After a few minutes of thinking, the young girl started to have an iron-like taste in her mouth but decided to ignore it. 'I don't have much more time for this. If I don't think of anything by tomorrow, it'll be too late.'
However, her thoughts were interrupted as a green haired boy had a nervous look on his face. "J-Jirou, your thumb is bleeding."
Kyouka widened her eyes a little and took her thumb out of her mouth before seeing some of the blood. "O-Oh I'm sorry I guess I was just a little worried about the final exams next week."
"Yeah, I know the feeling, but with the studying we've been doing I'm sure we'll have decent scores." He said with a smile.
The teen girl smiled back and nodded as she gently blew on her thumb. Thankfully it wasn't bleeding too much so there was no need to worry about it. She could easily put a bandaid on it once she got home. "Of course Midoriya, you've never gotten below a 90 in all of our exams so far."
Izuku's face got a little red from the compliment as he scratched the back of his head. "W-Well I do study hard, I have to make sure I keep my grades up. That'll be especially useful when we're 3rd years."
The purpled haired girl nodded as she continued walking with her hero. She's so happy that he seems pretty confident about both of their scores, especially his. He may not be overly confident like saying that he'll definitely get a great score no matter what, but he mainly says his good grades come from his studying and not any natural talent. Izuku was just a naturally modest person and she wouldn't change that for the world.
She remembered back in their midterm when they were 1st years, the preteen boy at the time felt like he didn't even do good at the exam. But now he would seem more confident in his abilities.
He also has had some more moments of standing up to Bakugo recently. She remembered at the beginning of this school year, his confidence shined when Bakugo yelled at him and the green haired boy didn't flinch as much when it happened. Unfortunately, that confidence would always get shut down once Bakugo got rougher and used more threats, but she knew that one day Izuku would overcome it all and finally stand up to him like he does for other people.
There was a part of her that just knew that she was the reason for his growing confidence and she was absolutely proud of that.
But even though she's helped him a lot, she still feels like she owes him so much for the way he's changed her life. She knew for a fact that it would be impossible to fully repay him for what he's done, but she would be damned if she didn't at least do as much as she humanly could.
Kyouka was now at home, currently writing in her green notebook as she was brainstorming ideas while sitting on her bed with a bandaid on her thumb. 'And I thought writing songs was hard, but this is something entirely different.'
The purple haired girl sighed as one of her earphone jacks grabbed the pencil out of her hand before she picked up a cup of tea, slowly drinking it.
"God why does this have to be frustrating? It should be easy to come up with something. I could always take him out somewhere to eat. But what if he misinterprets it and thinks it's a date? He really would think I'm weird at that point." She said to herself as she felt her face starting to heat up before shaking her head. "No I have to do something with that kind of simplicity, but nothing to be possibly misinterpreted."
"Kyouka it's time for dinner, I made your favorite meal today!" She heard her mom call out for her as the girl sighed.
'I guess I can brainstorm after dinner...Wait a minute.' She thought to herself as she had an idea before smiling widely and writing it down in her notebook. 'That has to be it.'
The Next Day
Izuku was walking home alone today for the first time since the end of elementary. He had to admit, he was extremely confused today. Kyouka acted normal for most of the day, even saying happy birthday like she did last year which made him resisting to tear up at the fact that she remembered.
However, about an hour before the final bell of the day she started to act pretty strange. She was acting like she was anxious about waiting for something. He assumed it was about the call she got to allow her to go home early for the day. He wondered if there was an emergency today. Maybe someone close to her was in the hospital and she wanted to see that person? Either way, she didn't say a word to him before getting out of the classroom as soon as possible.
Of course, he didn't hold it against her at all. He wouldn't dare budge into her personal business and if it was something she didn't want to talk about then he would have no choice, but to respect her decision. But he had to admit that he was just a little curious about why she had to go early. Maybe tomorrow at school she'll bring it up without him having to ask.
Soon the teen boy made it to his apartment complex before walking upstairs and pulling out his keys. He began to unlock his door and enter his home. "Mom I'm home!"
He then closed the door behind him and started to take off his shoes, leaving them in front of the door before seeing another pair of shoes right there. Unfortunately, he didn't have time to recognize the shoes.
"Oh, Izuku, I'm glad you're home! Your friend has been great company so far!" He heard his mom say to him which caused the boy to widen his eyes.
'Friend?! Wait, is Kacchan here?! Oh crap, why is he here today?! This is so new, I don't know what to expect!' He thought to himself, thinking that Bakugo was the only friend his mom knew about. 'Okay I can do this, Kacchan wouldn't dare do anything in front of my mom… right?'
The quirkless boy then took a deep breath to prepare himself before walking into the living room. His face showed pure shock as he witnessed the scene in front of him.
It was Kyouka and his mom drinking tea together at the dining table while smiling. "J-Jirou what are you doing here?!"
His face was becoming red as he started to think about the situation he was in. 'There's a GIRL in my home!'
"I'm sorry for not telling you Midoriya, but I wanted to surprise you for your birthday." The purple haired girl said as she smiled.
"Izuku why didn't you tell me that you had a new friend in middle school?" Inko Midoriya asked her son. "I would've loved to meet her sooner."
"W-Well it's just that I thought she wouldn't want to be talked about, I'm sorry." He tried defending himself, hoping his friend wouldn't be mad.
"I understand Midoriya, I don't tell my parents this about this kind of stuff either. Especially cause of my dad." The young girl said with a small laugh.
"Now how about you two talk while I bake a cake for the 3 of us to eat?" Inko offered as she stood up, internally crying to not embarrass her son. 'My baby has such a nice friend!'
The purple haired girl smiled widely and nodded. "Thank you Mrs. Midoriya, but you don't have to do that."
"Don't worry about it, I was going to bake a cake anyways. You just relax and make yourself comfortable." The green haired woman said before she walked to the kitchen.
'Wow, Jirou and my mom got really close huh? I'm definitely glad about that… wait a minute. Did my mom show her my room?!' He thought to himself, internally panicking at the thought of Kyouka seeing his room full of his All Might merchandise.
He did his best to calm down, but still couldn't help but be nervous with a girl being at his house and potentially having already seen his room. "S-So what made you decide to come here Jirou? D-Don't think I don't like it or anything! I-It's just unexpected."
His friend took a sip of her tea as he sat next to her at the table. "Well, you didn't seem like you had any big plans for your birthday so I figured it would be a good idea for me to come and celebrate with you and your mom. And don't worry, I told my parents I'll be at a girl's place so they aren't worried about me or anything."
"W-Well thank you Jirou, I really appreciate you wanting to celebrate with me. I think you can tell I'm not the most celebratory person when it comes to my birthday." He said as he gave a shy smile.
"Hey, I'm happy to be here. Your mom has been nothing, but nice to me since the minute I walked in here. It did take some explaining of us being friends though and I think I heard her crying from her room for like 10 minutes after I came in. But it's nice, she was really happy to know that her son was happy at school." The teen girl explained as she reached for her backpack. "Actually I got you something."
The boy's face went red again as he shook his head. "O-Oh you didn't have to get me anything at all Jirou."
The girl laughed as he said that as she reached in her backpack. "I knew you would say that, but don't think that's going to stop me."
She then found what she was looking for before pulling out a purple guitar keychain and handing it to her hero.
"I-I know it's lame for a present, but I figured a good present would be something to make you think of me since we're best friends and all." The girl said in an embarrassed tone as her face became a little red.
Izuku widened his eyes as he took the keychain and looked at it, feeling tears coming out of his eyes. "N-No… it's a great gift Jirou. T-Thank you so much."
The young girl smiled widely at the boy loving the gift as she looked at him. 'He loves it! I was so scared he would think it was lame, but it's Izuku. He's too amazing and would love anything as long as it came from someone close to him.'
"I'm just happy you like it Midoriya. I hope I made this a good birthday for you." She said, feeling less nervous at the fact that he loved her present.
The quirkless boy nodded and wiped his tears as he smiled back. "Y-You definitely did, I think this has been my best birthday ever."
The two continued to talk until Inko was done with the cake and all 3 of them ate it together.
The day continued on with the 3 of them celebrating the young boy's birthday with everyone enjoying themselves.
Like every other year, Inko got her son some new All Might merchandise which obviously made him start fanboying and planning to put it in his room after his friend leaves of course.
His mom also told stories about Izuku's antics while wearing an All Might onesie, but Izuku tried his best to stop her from telling those stories out of embarrassment.
Luckily for him, his friend didn't seem to mind that much and instead called it cute for a kid to do stuff like that which of course made him go very red.
Talking and laughter filled the Midoriya apartment that day. This was truly the happiest Izuku has been in a long time and that made Kyouka happy as well.
The young girl knew that there would be many more birthdays where she'll be with him and maybe one day they can celebrate his birthday when they're both more than friends.
But for now, she was going to keep being there for him no matter what and enjoy every single moment with him.
'Please always be happy and keep on smiling, Izuku.'
A/N
Okay chapter 10 is done! This feels like a bit of a milestone, hitting my 10th chapter of this story. I do admit that this chapter doesn't have as much passion as the others considering this is a filler chapter. But overall I think it was good for being filler.
Yes I know I could've expanded on the birthday scene a lot more than I did, but I didn't want to linger on it too long personally and plus there will be more birthday chapters in the future that'll hopefully be more expanded than this one. I mean I made this chapter longer than planned, originally I only planned to do less than 2k words. The next chapter might have that many words since it'll mostly be a prelude to chapter 12 which will be the adaptation of the first episode.
I'm sure that's when most of you guys will enjoy the story even more. Because I'm sure the elementary and middle school stuff wasn't the most fun for some of you.
Now onto the reviews!
Chuck Winanaki: Well for Bakugo, I think we get enough of that in the actual series, but maybe I can expand on it a little in the future. Yeah Kyouka and Izuku both have dreams that are different, but with near equal determination.
HeroLuffy726: To be honest I'm pretty horrible at doing research since I mostly do it very late at night. I'll think about doing the whole retcon thing, but no matter how I change it, it won't affect my story so no need to worry much about that. Thank you for liking how I handle Bakugo. I don't hate any of my hero characters at all and I plan on letting that show in this story. I promise no character will get unnecessarily mistreated.
Lightgiver: I'm glad to have proved your expectations wrong and thank you for the compliments on my writing. I hope you stick around in the future.
shadowwriter01: I definitely plan on Kyouka remembering Izuku being called Deku before being quirkless. I don't know if I plan on having Kyouka trying to get Bakugo in trouble in the future, but I'll keep developing the story as I go forward. Only a couple of events are set in stone so far.
Ability King KK: I imagine Izuku not mentioning that since I doubt it was very important to him and something he would do normally. I know that moment was the most important to Bakugo since he felt like he was being looked down upon.
Drouppi: No, thank you for reading it! Well I figured since class was ending soon anyways it wouldn't matter much and I doubt the teacher or Bakugo would have him just standing or sitting on the floor.
Darkfang1416: Oh no don't worry, she won't be completely insane.
Im The Person: I'm glad I'm making you feel emotions about Bakugo even if they're bad ones, it makes me think my writing is decent enough to cause that. Bakugo's fate is left unknown at the moment, but I do plan on making him redeem himself at least a little better than in canon. It will take some time though(A long time). Also for Kyouka, I don't think she's as obvious as Ochako was in canon and even then he didn't notice. I think my version of Kyouka is semi decent at hiding her feelings.
Well everyone I hope you've been enjoying my story so far and I plan to keep improving as this story goes on!
Please feel free to leave a review!
