Kato POV
For the third time this morning, I rolled over trying to get comfortable, the sunlight that was shining through the window was hurting my eyes. I was too tired to get up and do anything about it. I was mentally drained from Ino-san picking through my brain for hours. I just wanted to go back to sleep and wake up the next day.
The bed creaked for the fourth time, I merely cringed at the sound of it. The bed that I had wasn't the best but it was better than sleeping on a cold, moldy, floor. The conditions of my old house were ruthless, I am beyond grateful to even have a bed to sleep on.
"Kato if you roll over one more time I'm going to kill you." Sasuke barked, he was currently laying on the floor of the room. The bed was big enough for the both of us but he refused to sleep beside me.
I scoffed, "I don't speak to people who have commitment issues."
"What!?" My back was turned to him but I could hear every move that he was making. For a fact, I knew he was sitting up staring at my back.
I rolled back over so I was looking up at the white ceiling, the architect in this house was beautiful. "You had issues committing to Sakura-san, committing to your team, committing to your family, committing to a healthy mental state." I looked over to Sasuke with the biggest grin, "Should I continue?" A giggle escaped my lips as I watched his face fall.
"You're making me regret adopting you." Sasuke sneered, he threw the blankets off of his body. He stalked over to the balcony of our room and slammed the door shut. By the way, he was acting. I knew he was in his emo phase right now. We'd have to give him a few minutes to come around.
"Kato!" My neck broke as I looked in the direction of my name being called. Sakura-san sweet voice ranged through my ears, I jumped from the bed nearly falling on my face. She was standing near the door with a bag in her hand, she held out her hand toward me. "Would you like to come to the market with me?"
My eyes lit up, I nodded my head viciously before taking off back into the room. Sasuke-san was still on the balcony, through the blinds I could see him reading some type of scroll. I'll be reading that once he goes to sleep, I have a habit of sticking my nose where it does not belong. Curiosity always killed the bird…or was it the cat? I can't honestly remember how it was supposed to go but it was something in that category.
The door to my room opened, it was Sakura-san standing at the door with a smaller bag. "Curiosity killed the cat, Kato." She had caught me spying on Sasuke-san, She smiled while handing me the bag.
Currently, I was struggling to put my shorts on, "But satisfaction brought it back." I winked at Sakura-san, which she only laughed at. My mom would always say that whenever I would stalk her when she went out.
"Leave Sasuke alone, you know how he gets when you're in his personal space."
"Naruto said that you don't get any personal space when you get married or have kids. They're always a pain in your butt so, therefore, Sasuke-nii chan has to get over it."
Sakura-san squinted her eyes, that weird vein in her forehead popped out."Really? When did Naruto say this?"
"Yesterday, he also said that when you get a wife that they never shut up when you're trying to go to sleep." I casually said, I grabbed the bag from her hand and walked out of the door. My shoes were placed perfectly at the door, usually, I'd just take them off and throw them across the room. I get excited to play outside so when I get home I toss my shoes to the side.
I sat patiently at the door waiting for Sakura, she was taking longer than usual. I thought she was behind me but in reality, she walked back to her room. I was generally confused as to why Naruto-nii chan was screaming, it was more of a terrifying scream like someone was threatening his life. You'd casually hear it whenever Saukura-san was around. He kept screaming which was odd, that man was so scary.
Sakura-san finally walked down to the door, she had the biggest smile on her face, her hand went down to grab my cheek which I hated but Sakura-san was the only one allowed to do it.
"I just love how you say things without thinking about it."
"Oh! Sasuke-niichan said I get that from Naruto-niichan, that's why he doesn't like me being around him." I said as I opened the door for both of us to walk out. Instantly I grabbed Sakura's hand, she always made me feel safer, especially when we went to crowded places like the market. When things got crowded and people were yelling it tended to make my chest tighten, I get this warm feeling when things are too chaotic.
"What are we getting Sakura-san?" I skipped along with Sakura-san's hand with mine. The new house was a far walk from the city but it was fun to see all the animals along the way.
"We need more vegetables, your adoptive father keeps eating them all."
"He loves tomatoes." I giggled, I would wake up in the middle of the night to find him eating tomatoes and reading scrolls. If I had a nightmare or feel uncomfortable he'd allow me to climb on his lap and sleep. Those were the best days because people portray nii-chan as a bad person. He's not, he just needs to learn how to adapt to his feelings.
"He also loves you as well." Sakura-san smiled down at me, "Don't you forget that either."
I returned the smile, I knew Sasuke-san loved me. I want to show him how much I love him by changing my last name to his but I think that would cause a lot of problems. I overheard Shikamaru-san talking about it, apparently, it would cause an uproar with everyone.
I sighed, I didn't even know my own last name but I wanted one so that when I go to school I could be like the other kids.
"Kato? Do you want to stop by the park before we go to the market? I need to take a breather, being pregnant is hard."
"Sure!"
The park wasn't that far from the house but it was still a bit away from the market. It was crowded but not as crowded as it usually was. There were about 10 kids around, they were about my age or older. I loved to play in the sandbox because people always left their toys around for me to build sandcastles. I had the body of a six-year-old but the mind of a thirteen-year-old. Sometimes it made me question my sanity.
"Here make sure you drink water, it's hot outside." Sakura-san handed me a bottle of water, typically I hated water but since it was hot outside I decided to take it.
Luckily for me, the sandbox wasn't filled with anyone, it was only me and myself. I had my back turned to the sun so it wasn't in my face. It was actually better because the sand started to cool down.
There was a shadow that was blocking the sun from me, it seemed to get cooler. At first, I tried to ignore the presence behind me until I felt a finger on my shoulder. "Hey! How old are you?"
"I'm six," I said quickly, I didn't bother to look behind me, whenever I played on the playground I never made friends. Friends were temporary, they were all going to die soon anyway.
They all laughed, "Cool we're eight so you have to listen to us."
"I only listen to my mom." I continued to make the sandcastle.
"Well, where is she?" They walked in front of me blocking my way to get more sand.
"She's dead so I guess I don't have to listen to any of you…am I right?" I smirked, their faces were priceless, and they all looked stunned by my answer.
One of them grew agitated with me, I could tell by the frown on his face. I shrugged it off, their attitudes didn't bother me.
"That's a lie, you have to listen to your dad." The boy said, he nudged his friends as they all laughed. "One squatted down next to me, he was currently face to face with me. "Where is your dad?"
I motioned for him to bring his face closer to me. I grabbed his head so my lips were inches away from his ear. "Too busy fucking your mom." I burst out laughing, he quickly stood up.
"You're a freak! Who are you!"
I grabbed more sand from my bucket. My cocky attitude was slowly surfacing. "The name is Kato or you can call me your stepbrother. I don't mind."
"We'll beat you up just so you know."
I tilted my head to the side, "I'll kill you without blinking."
"Liar! We'd like to see you try."
I took a sip of my water bottle, I stood up so now I was at eye level with them all. They all circled me as if they were going to jump me. Without thinking, I grabbed one of them by his arm and shoved the water bottle in his mouth. Before he could register what was happening I squeezed it so it would shoot out of his nose and ears.
He began to hysterically cough out, gasping for air and flailing his arms.
"Are any of you guys CPR certified? My mom was but now she's six feet under."
I sat back down with my yellow bucket in my hands. I could hear his other friends slapping him on the back begging him to stop choking. I taunted them, it was funny to me. How can you beg someone to stop choking? It didn't make any sense.
"We're going to tell our mom about you!"
I stuck my tongue out and pulled down my lower eyelid "Bahh!"
They ran in the direction of their moms. There goes my peaceful day at the playground. I threw the bucket to the side, my sandcastle was halfway made which made me mad because I was almost done.
"Sakura-san are you ready?" I huffed.
"Kato?" Sakura laughed, "We haven't been here for 10 minutes."
I looked back to the boy who was now pointing in my direction. Their mom looked confused, one of them looked terrified as she checked on her son. "It's getting hot don't you think."
"A little but you love to play in the sandbox."
I nervously laughed, "It makes my butt itch…so let's go."
Sakura only laughed at me but time was ticking. I didn't mind getting in trouble, it honestly didn't bother me. It was more of the fact that Sakura-san would be disappointed in me and I hated that. I already felt like a burden, there was no way I could cause her more problems than what she was facing now.
"Come on Sakura-san." I drug Sakura-san from the commotion that was about to surface. Luckily we made it out before the other boys could get their story together.
Sakura snorted, "Okay, Okay, you know I wobble and do not walk."
I laughed out heartily as Sakura walked towards the exit of the park. We grabbed ice pops on the way there, the blueberry was the best. I was happy that Sakura-san was pregnant because whenever she had a craving I got to eat it too.
The walk wasn't that much farther, it was loaded with people but luckily the vegetable sections weren't that packed. I ran towards the tomatoes and filled them in my bag until I couldn't fill them anymore. There were also some carrots that I took for the bunnies outside. They always got into Naruto-niichan's garden, he'd always fussed about how he never had any plants due to the bunnies eating them. Little did he know that I am the reason why his plants were getting eaten because I kept feeding the bunnies.
The man in charge of the booth leaned against the tomato stand, "Save some for the rest of the village kid."
I laughed, "They're for the bunnies at my home."
The older man helped me stuff more carrots in my bag."Bunnies? How many do you have?"
"There's six of them, they're my friends."
"You don't have any friends your age?"
"No, well I did but they're too busy choking." My mind began to fill with images of the boys at the playground. Technically they were my friends because we both had a lot in common, we loved to torture people.
"Excuse me."
"Nothing." I smiled, I jumped down from the stand that I was using to reach the tomatoes. I waved gently back to the older man, "Thanks for everything."
"You're welcome, Kato."
My walking came to a halt, "How do you know my name?"
"I know everyone's name, it's my job. Keep your vegetables, they're on the house."
"Well that's not creepy, maybe you're the one who needs friends." I gave the man one last wave before walking off to find Sakura-san.
I held the heavy bag to my side while I walked around. In the mix of trying to get tomatoes and carrots, I lost Sakura-san. She was around here somewhere, most likely she was in the ramen section. She was nowhere to be found. I looked around more before I walked outside to the main street of the market.
"Sakura-san?" I yelled, there were people walking around me left and right.
"Kato?"
Sakura-san held a bag full of fruits, like the gentleman I was, I offered to help her out with them but she declined.
The house was still the same when we came back, Sakura-san walked to the kitchen to start dinner. I was going to help her in the kitchen but first I wanted to go check on my emo father.
"Sasuke!"
"Kato," Naruto growled, he stood by the window guarding the back door. His face was red with a little discoloration.
"Did the wife get a hold of you again?" I laughed, he only growled back at me in response.
"You little shit."
"Bahh!" I stuck my tongue out at him before pushing him aside. From afar I could see that Sasuke was in the garden. He was resting perfectly against the oak tree that hovered over the garden.
"Sasuke." With my leg, I kicked his foot.
"What?" His eyes were closed with his arms wrapped around the back of his head.
"Can we train?"
"No."
"Why not!? Come on!"
"I don't train with brats."
I kicked him in the shin this time, "You're such a fucking loser."
"Watch your fucking mouth." He sneered, both of his eyes were now open. It seemed to me that I had started a little fire in his soul.
"How are you going to tell me to watch my mouth but you just cursed as well." I pouted, my arms wrested crossed perfectly over my body.
"Shut up before I ground you."
"Shut up before I ground you." I mocked back, Swifty Sasuke kicked me in the legs. It caused me to fall down on my butt. "Ouch! That hurt!"
"Get up."
I stood up again only for my buttocks to hurt. Before I could properly stand up again he kicked me down to the ground. "That hurts! Why do you keep doing that!?"
"If you only stare at your opponent's eyes then you can never figure out what they're doing with the rest of their body. You don't observe Kato, you never do. Instead of looking me in the eyes, try looking at my entire body. If you did then you would know that I was going to kick you."
"Mhm."
"Try it again."
I pushed myself up from the ground. Sasuke went on to close his eyes, he was getting comfortable against the tree again. This time I was not going to allow him to bring me to the ground. My eyes scanned his body as I patiently waited for him to move a muscle. The birds chirped, the leaves even blew in my face, none of those aspects stopped me from focusing on Sasuke.
His leg twitched, that's when I saw it. He tried to kick my feet from underneath me. I was quicker, I jumped into the air allowing his feet to kick the air. That's when I felt a strong connection to the side of my face, it sent me back flying onto the porch. I lay there in distress, my inner mouth was bleeding from Sasuke's inhumane punch.
"Expect the unexpected Kato." He stepped over me without helping me, "Ouch!" I yelled for the third time that day. That was probably payback for torturing those kids at the playground.
Sakura-san walked over to the door, "Kato? Are you okay?"
"No," I spat out the blood in my mouth. "I think your boyfriend and his friend just sat me up."
Sakura-san only rolled her eyes, "That doesn't surprise me. Those idiots always have something going on."
I rolled over on my side, it was the easiest way for me to push myself off of the ground. From the inside, I could hear Naruto laughing hysterically at me. Sakura-san handed me a napkin to wipe the blood from my lips.
"Bitch." I barked out, I looked over to Sasuke who was smirking by the door. "And you are too!"
Naruto continued to laugh in my face, and my irritation slowly started to consume me.
Sakura walked me back to the bathroom so I could wash my mouth out. It was only a little scrap yet it made me bleed so much. No amount of pressure could stop the blood from coming out of my mouth.
"Owwww!" The pain that was radiating from my cheek was unbearable. The punch was one from hell. "This hurts!"
"If you stay still then I'd be able to heal you faster."
I pushed her hand away from my cheek, "You shouldn't be wasting your chakra on me Sakura-san." Glancing back at the mirror I could see how much damage was done to my face. My hand softly touched the purple spot on my cheek. "He's going to pay."
Sakura-san laughed, her hand intertwined with mine, "You don't have to get back at them. I'll handle them."
"But it's not the same Sakura-san, I need them to pay."
"Not every action needs a reaction."
"But Newton's Law clearly states that every action has a reaction." My smile widened when I saw her surprised reaction. I have been reading up on things so I will not be behind when I enter school. That way I can graduate and be the best ninja in the world.
Sakura smiled at me, her hands went back to heal my cheek. "And every action has an equal and opposite reaction Kato."
-Later that Night-
Naruto and Sasuke were both called to the towers, apparently, it was urgent because an Anbu was sent by the house. I could tell Sakura was nervous and a little agitated so I volunteered to sleep with her. That didn't last long, once she fell asleep I ran back into my room. The night sky illuminated my bedroom. I slowly glanced over to the alarm clock by my stand.
The nightmares of my old life started to slowly consume me. It was getting harder for me to eat, sleep, and breathe. Every day was like I was fighting for my life.
"Just go to sleep, dobe." Sasuke's voice appeared behind the door, before Sasuke walked through the door I could tell that something was wrong.
I rolled over on my side so I could see him. He was emptying all of his pockets, "So are we dying or not?" I half-heartedly joke, it seemed to catch him off guard. He grumbled at me to go to sleep but I was wide awake. I wanted to press him to get a reaction.
"Why? Do you have something to tell me? What's going on?"
"Do you want to be grounded?"
"You don't have that authority over me…yet." I mocked back, Sasuke didn't say anything. He only turned his back to me which was like a slap in the face. Usually, he would bicker with me, he would even go as far as to put another bruise on my other cheek.
"You're still fighting for the legal right for me to be yours aren't you? They don't think your suited enough to be my father so they're going to put me in the orphanage."
Sasuke lay on the floor like a bed, his back still facing me. "Go to sleep."
"Let me testify! It's my life, why can't I have a say-so!?"
"Because those are the rules and tone your voice down. You sound like a chipmunk." Sasuke said softly, he wasn't looking at me which only told me that he felt bad about the situation.
I huffed, "Rules are meant to be broken. You're a great dad to me."
"Look at the mark on your face."
I shrugged my shoulders, "Violence is your love language, there's nothing we can do about that."
Sasuke laughed, he put his entire soul into it. It caught me completely off guard. He rolled over to face me with a tiny half-smile. "Go to bed Kato, we have training in the morning."
"What if they take me away from you?"
"They won't, I won't let them break us apart."
Tears pricked my eyes, my voice felt scratchy. Just the thought of leaving Sasuke, Naruto, and Sakura scared me. "How…" The tiniest voice in my throat cussed a tear to slip down my cheek. "How do you know?"
"I know, I won't let them take you away from us. I don't care how much I have to fight."
I wiped my tears away with the blanket in my hand. Jumping down from the bed, I used my tiny legs to make my way over to Sasuke, he opened his blanket to make a little hole for me to come in.
I looked up at him with the smallest grin on my face."I love you."
His entire face fell which made me laugh at him, "You're pushing it Kato."
"And you're pushing old age you fucking old geezer."
He pushed the blanket over my head causing me to giggle crazily. "Go the fuck to bed you demon brat."
