Chapter 84: Madara's Revival
Normal P.O.V.
Angry Obito glared at his former teammate and sensei with resentment and frustration.
"Sensei, why did you stop Kakashi from killing me. Isn't that what everyone wanted. Isn't that how you plan on winning this war?" he mocked.
Minato smiled sadly and softly, "Obito, you've seemed to forget one of my most important lessons. There is more to winning a battle or war than winning," His two students turned their heads and stared at their sensei in confusion. Minato chuckled and continued, "Do you guys remember the missions that the four of us went on? Do you Rin's roll? She was a medical-nin. Being a medical-nin, she was not supposed to be on the frontlines. Her job was to offer support and protect the two of you. She cared about both of you as if you were a part of her family. Hn. I still even remember when she scolded me for failing as your sensei," he chuckled fondly. "Rin may be long gone, but she would have never wanted a situation like this to happen. She would be disappointed in us all, especially me,"
"Sensei, why are you talking all of the blame. All of us had a hand in this situation," Kakashi asked.
Minato shook his head, "You're wrong. This started with me. I was supposed to be your leader, sensei, guide, and protector. Instead, after Rin and you passed on Obito, I became the Yondaime Fourth Hokage. An ironic name, if you ask me. The one time I was late… I single-handily destroyed my team; terrible blemish to have on a Hokage's record," When neither of his students responded, Minato continued, "It's no coincidence that I, should have remained dead, is standing before you now. Although realistically speaking, Orochimaru was the one person who reanimated us; I think Rin also played a part in this. Perhaps is it her way of punishing me for failing our team,"
"How dare the two of you talk about Rin so fondly!" Obito screamed, causing the other two to jump in shock, "Rin… Rin was everything to me. She was the light and hope that guided me in my worst moments. That night when I lost her, I lost the will to continue. Hatred filled every vein in my body down to my core. After that, I saw the world differently, too. I saw it for what it really was: cruel. I was living in hell, and there was no way out,"
"Obito, you are not alone in your feelings. I felt the same when I lost you all. Despite what you or anyone thought, I looked to you as a friend and brother. You were my rival that pushed me to do better than I was yesterday. Within a short time, I lost my father, Rin, and you. I thought I would go insane. I started to lose control and motivation to do anything. My body ran on autopilot. I became a slave to the Hidden Leaf and my own mind. Like you, I saw this world as cruel, and I wanted to see it burn to the ground. But, at the same time, I wanted to die. I didn't want to live this hellish life anymore. The final straw was 16 years ago when I lost sensei and Lady Kushina the night of the Nine-Tails' attack. After that, I… didn't know where I was going to go from there," Kakashi said as he tried to hold back his tears.
"But, I remembered the last conversation with Lady Kushina before they passed away. She asked me to help watch over Naruto, but she also wanted me to live for myself. She told me that she knew life seemed bleak for me, but I needed to keep my head up and try to look at things as you used to, Obito. Her words gave me the encouragement I needed to continue onward. From then on, I used your Sharingan to change my view of this world. As long as I had your Sharingan and my memories of our family, I felt that I could become my old self again,"
Kakashi turned to look at Minato with sad tears in his eyes as he bowed his head, never getting up from his spot on top of Obito, "Please forgive me, sensei. And tell Lady Kushina that I offer an apology to her as well,"
"What do you mean, Kakashi? What do you have to apologize for?" Minato asked.
"I didn't do what I could have to protect or watch over Naruto. You both asked that task of me, and although I tried hard initially, I couldn't do it. I wasn't strong enough, mentally and physically. I was too lost in my head and tried to do everything to save myself from drowning that I let everyone down. The only peace I find in my mistake is knowing that the Nine-Tails were there to raise Naruto. Please forgive,"
Suddenly, Kakashi gasped when he felt Minato's fingers running through his thick silver locks before scratching his ears, "You have nothing to be sorry for. As both of you understand now, even Hokages make mistakes. At the end of the day, we are full of flaws. But that's where we build our strength from. Being able to recognize and correct our mistakes or learn from them is what makes a shinobi great. I'm sure Kushina would feel the same way if she was here,"
Kakashi looked up with a peaceful expression at his late sensei. He couldn't explain it but knowing that the resentment and the remorse that hung over his head for years had finally lifted off his shoulders.
"Kakashi," Obito called out, interrupting the moment. "You mentioned earlier that Naruto reminded you of me, correct? But how do you know that he won't fail and follow the same path?"
Kakashi looked down at the defeated feline and smirked with a shrug, "That's the thing, I don't. Naruto could very well fail. Hell, we all could fail and lose this war, but that doesn't mean that I won't fight for or follow him until the end,"
"Why, though? Why would you go so far for him then? Why wouldn't you want to take the easy way; a way that can guarantee a victory,"
"Obito, you never listened to sensei," Kakashi chuckled as he stood up. "Because I can say for the fact that he has a less likely chance of failing than you do right now. I am his sensei, and despite our sensei's thinking, I learned a lot from him. I knew that no matter what happened, I would be there to support my students along their journey. They have much to learn. And, as long as I am able, I will be there to catch them when they stumble and fail. I will help them realize their mistakes and how they can better themselves. That is my role in life. So, I put my faith, not just in Naruto but in all my students. They all have shown tremendous growth. I am incredibly proud to have each of them as my students,"
Obito's eyes widened after Kakashi's speech. The passion that his former friend had for his students made something inside of him grow. Was it hope? Obito couldn't say for sure. However, the older feline could tell that a small part of him wanted Kakashi to be right.
…
…
…
Naruto and Sasuke made their way to the tree on the other side of the battlefield and started jumping up towards the purple bud on top.
"Do you have a plan for when we get to the top?" Sasuke asked as he followed Naruto.
"Yeah, once we get to the top, I can use my sage powers to search for Madara. Once I find him, we can attack from there,"
The couple raced until they reached their destination. Once up there, Naruto used his sensory abilities and eyes to search the crowd until he found Madara.
"Ha! Found you, fucker! Alright, Sasuke, let's go!"
"Right!"
Naruto summoned two shadow clones so they could form a giant Wind Shuriken Rasengan. "Bigger! We need to get it as big as we can, guys," Naruto commanded from his clones. Once it grew large enough, Sasuke added some of his Amaterasu flames to the attack." Take this!" the blond fox screamed as he unleashed his attack.
Below in the ground, Madara was encased inside of Hashirama's Wooden Dragon.
"Don't try to struggle, Madara. My Wooden Dragon will absorb your chakra until you're completely drained. Then, your days of stealing others' chakra are over!" Hashirama declared.
As Naruto's attack got closer, the rest of the Allied Shinobi raced towards Madara. Their goal was to seal the man away and hopefully stop the jutsu from activating. However, they were quickly running out of time.
"Everyone! We have to work together and fast! We cannot let this opportunity go to waste!" Tsunade yelled.
"Naruto, Sasuke!" Sai called out as he flew towards them on his Ink hawk.
"Sai?! You're healed?!" Naruto happily gasped.
"Yes. Sakura did a fantastic job. Now hurry and hope on so we can finish this!"
Sasuke and Naruto nodded before they did as they were told. Then, together, the three of them flew towards Madara to prepare what came next. As they got closer, it was clear that Naruto's attack did not finish Madara off, but it did deal a great deal of damage.
"Fuck! What does it take to kill this bastard!" Naruto screamed in frustration as he grabbed his hair.
Suddenly, several wooden gates appeared and landed on top of Madara. Hashirama and Tobirama appeared beside them, "Don't worry, my gates will hold him in place until the sealing shinobi arrive,"
"Naruto," Kurama called out, "Be careful, kit. The Ten-Tails' Jinchūriki is not like the other Jinchūriki,"
"What do you mean?"
"Even if the beast is extracted, the Jinchuirki won't die,"
"How is that possible?" Naruto gasped.
"Because the Jinchūriki is just a husk for the Ten-Tails, not a host. The Gedo Statue still remains. That is where most of its lifeforce resides,"
Minato, although miles away from the rest of the Allied Forces, through his connection to Kurama, heard the explanation. Then, thinking quickly, he needed to act.
"Kakashi, watch over Obito. I'm going to rejoin the battlefield,"
"Yes, sensei," Suddenly, Kakashi looked down and gasped when he saw Obito lace his fingers together, "What are you trying to do?"
"The same thing that someone I tried to use did when he betrayed me," Obito closed his eyes and thought of Nagato before opening them again, "It's the Gedo Art of Rinn Rebirth Jutsus,"
"What kind of jutsu is that?" Minato asked.
"Not too long ago, a man named Pain attacked our village looking for Naruto. At the end of the battle, when Naruto defeated him, Pain used that jutsu to revive everyone who died during that battle, including me. Obito! Are you out of your damned mind?! That jutsus will kill you!"
"I know, but that is the only way I can give back and atone for my sins,"
"Obito… are you… are you sure about this?"
"Yes. After all, I don't want to take the easy way out, right?" Obito smirked before he closed his eyes. "Think of this as my final farewell," Suddenly, a black hand appeared and wrapped itself around Obito's body. Obito gasped and struggled as he looked to his left and saw Zetsu appear. "Bastarded. I thought you were dead,"
"I have many parts of my body scattered throughout the nations. Some of me may have been killed elsewhere, but I will always have another part of me hiding somewhere. That was the real reason Madara attached me to your body when a situation like this arises. I'm sorry, Obito, but it's time to switch places,"
More of the black hand spread onto Obito's body until he was completely covered. That allowed the jutsu to activate, and a beating heart was teleported inside of Madara's chest.
…
…
…
As Naruto, Sai, Sasuke, Hashirama, and the others tried to keep Madara contained, the heart that was teleported thudded loudly in Madara's chest. Then, everyone froze when a blood curling laugh erupted from Madara.
"It's not a battle without a beating heart! Now I can fight for real."
Suddenly, Madara gasped as his Rinnegan eyes cracked and fell out of his eyes, and his body was lit up with Sasuke's Amaterasu flames, "Ancient relics should stay ancient!" Sasuke yelled with his Eternal Mangekyou Sharingan activated from on top of Sai's bird.
"A brat whose level that doesn't even come close to mine should learn his place!"
Madara's armor was all that burned off after the blackened flames disappeared. However, as he stood there in nothing but black pants, sandals, closed eyes, and his chest exposed, Hashirama gasped in fear.
"Madara… what did you do?" he continued to gasp as he saw a white, mock version of his face merged within his rival's chest.
"The one who possesses both genes of the Uchiha and Senju clans can obtain true happiness. I have made you a part of me, Hashirama, as it should have always been. Now, watch me show you what our powers combined can really do!" Madara bit into his wrist hard enough to draw blood and prepared himself for his next attack, "This was all planned. I used Obito to bring myself back to life. The only thing that wasn't planned was your appearance. However, it matters not. Prepare for the destruction of this world!"
Before anyone could understand what happened, a blind Madara rushed them. Naruto was the first to go. Madara punched Naruto in his stomach. As the wind and blood were knocked out of him, Naruto didn't have time to react as one of his tails was grabbed, and he was thrown into a nearby wall. Next, he landed a roundhouse kick to Sai's side and sent him flying.
With those two out of his way, Madara lunged for Hashirama and grabbed his neck. The First Hokage gasped as he struggled to breathe while his Sage Chakra was absorbed.
"So, this is the precious Sage Chakra you've been hiding from me, Hashirama, you naughty boy," he smirked as Hashirama's Sage markings appeared on the face that was embedded into his chest.
Sasuke jumped down from Sai's hawk during their encounter and raced towards Madara with his sword ready. When he was close enough, he swung his sword and attacked Madara, but the older feline was too fast and dodged him. This continued as they battled. Like most battles, they danced around each other as Madara avoided each of Sasuke's attacks. Finally, Sasuke caught up to Madara and thrust his sword forward.
"I'm going to make you regret being revived,"
Sasuke's sword thrust through Madara's arm and almost hit his chest. Madara grabbed the sword and held it in place.
"You insolent brat. You're a thousand years too early to outrank me. Perhaps It will be a good idea to take your eyes until I get my Rinnegan back, Sasuke,"
…
…
…
Kakashi and Minato stood over a gasping Obito as the black essence of Zetsu melted away.
"Obito, what did you do?" Kakashi asked.
"Madara… has come back to life…." That was all Obito said as his lifeforce was drained away.
"Obito? Obito!" Kakashi screamed out.
"This was the final step of Madara's plan. This boy was nothing more than a puppet and a vessel for Lord Madara. Don't worry, though. He will last a little while longer while I am attached to him," Zetsu said as he moved his essence towards Obito's left side and sat Obito's body up. Now, if you will excuse me, Lord Madara needs his eyes," As Zetsu reached for Obito's lifeless eyes, Kakashi and Minato rushed him. "I suggest you come no further," Zetsu's words stopped Kakashi and Minato in their tracks, "Remember what I just said; I am the only thing keeping him alive for the time being. So, if you want to keep him alive, I would rethink your actions," The pair watched his terror as Zetsu made Obito's body stand, "I am Lord Madara's will incarnated. Therefore, I will stop at nothing to make sure his plan succeeds. So, gentleman, what is it that you will do?"
…
…
…
Sasuke held onto his sword tightly as Madara, and he continued to battle over control.
"Your eyes, Sasuke, burn with the Uchiha's fiery passion. I would hate to waste an eye like that, so allow me to make you one last proposition; join forces with me,"
"You must think so little of me to think I would betray my mate and my country for the likes of you again. But, make no mistake about the outcome of this battle. You will be a dead man once again," Sasuke growled.
"If that is your choice, little one, then prepare to join our clan and your mate in the afterlife. Hidden in Ash Jutsu!"
Suddenly, a large explosion of ash and fire erupted by Sasuke. The feline managed to jump out of the way in time, with only his clothes receiving light burns.
"Sasuke! Sasuke, where are you?!" Naruto called out.
"Dobe?! I'm over here!"
Naruto used his wind element to blow away the smoke before rushing towards Sasuke's side. "Are you alright?"
"Yeah. I'm more annoyed than anything,"
"Well, the war's not over yet, and it looks like we have a bigger problem on our hands,"
The couple looked up to see Madara standing on top of a cliff in front of most Allied Shinobi Forces. Even without telling where his gaze would have been with his eyes, the couple could tell that his next targets were the Tailed-Beasts they extracted earlier.
"Naruto, Sasuke~." Hashimara tried to warn.
"We know. Lord First, we will take care of my siblings if you help the Allied Forces and other Kages," Naruto commanded.
"Right, please be careful,"
Sasuke and Naruto nodded before they took off towards the Tailed-Beasts. As they got closer, Gaara used his sand to lift them onto his sand clouds. The trio acknowledged each other before their attacks began. As Madara raced towards them, Gaara and Shuakau led the attack.
"Get ready, Shukaku!" Gaara commanded. His Tailed-Beast and he laced their fingers together and readied their jutsu, "Sand Bomb Bullets!"
The force from the attack blew Madara back until he found his footing. Once he did so, Madara tried to lunge for them again before something stopped him. Inside of him was grains of sand embedded in his bloodstream and restricted his movements. While he was stunned, the other Tailed-Beasts attacked. Some clawed, kicked, headbutted, and smashed him with their tails. Finally, Shukaku and the Six-Tails slug, Saiken, worked together to seal Madara away inside a sand pyramid.
"Ha! That bastard won't EVER take another breath of fresh air!" Shukaku laughed.
Suddenly, two blue arms emerged from the sand pyramid. Madara's Sasusnoo clawed its way out and stood tall against its opponents.
"Soon, I'll be putting collars on all of you. None of you will escape from me,"
"Not if we have anything to say about it!" Naruto yelled as Kurama's chakra form rushed Madara.
"We Tailed-Beasts wag our tails for no one!" Kurama said after his attack. "Siblings! Let's attack together! Stack Tails Attack!"
Every Tailed-Beast followed their older brother as he led the attack. Then, one by one, they slammed at least one of their tails on top of Madara and his Susanoo. Finally, Madara dispelled his Susanoo and evaded the attacks with ease before he landed on the ground. He looked down and noticed that his right arm had been severed but was not concerned. Next to him, Zetsu appeared out of the earth with something in his right fist.
"I apologize for being late, Lord Madara,"
"It matters not as long as you have what I need,"
"Of course," Zetsu said as he opened his fist and offered Obito's Rinnagan eye.
Without hesitation, Madara sliced off Zetsu's arm and attached it to his. The cells connected with Madara's easily and became functioning immediately. After that, Madara inserted the new eye into his empty right socket. After allowing time for him to adjust, Madara's right eye opened and relieved his success. To test himself, Madara brought his blood-covered arm up and licked it. Suddenly, his body started to shake with joy as he let out a loud, menacing laugh.
"Finally! I can fully savor the taste of battle again!"
Once his laughter died down, Madara used some of his blood and whipped it onto his palm. Next, he slammed it onto the ground and performed a summoning jutsu. This caused Obito to scream in agony as the Ten-Tails was extracted from his body. To stop the teleportation, Kakashi used his Kamuri Jutsu. It wasn't too long before it disappeared in a cloud of smoke.
"Did it work?" Minato asked.
"No… I think it failed… " Kakashi said with fear laced in his voice.
And unfornately, he was correct. The Ten-Tails appeared behind both Madara and Zetsu. Madara turned to see that one of the beast's arms was cut off, but it did not concern him. All he needed to do was reabsorb the Tailed-Beasts again. Except for this time, he would make sure to get all of them.
