You know, some days, some days were actually pretty routine for the BAU. For them, anyway. You know, they flew across country, got their profile together and there was a fairly obvious suspect who was easy enough to catch. Minimal fatalities and injuries and all that. Yeah, that's what Emily would call a pretty normal day. Despite what it seemed like, they did get quite a lot of cases like that. Which was good and could be boring. But boring could be good sometimes. Sometimes you needed boring, especially after a particularly horrific case. It gave everything a sort of reset.

It was safe to say that today was not one of those days. Which, again, would be fine. You know, not every day should be mundane and a little bit boring. Soke excitement was always good.

Unfortunately, this went for beyond excitement.

"Arrows! Freaking arrows!" Morgan exclaimed as he and Emily were running.

Sprinting, really. Which was something you tended to do when you were trying to evade a continual barrage of arrows. Yes, arrows. Because, why not? Who even thought of arrows anyway? They certainly weren't the first weapons she thought of.

"Go in an S shape!" Emily snapped back at him. "Do you want to get hit by one?"

Because she would really rather not. She was pretty sure that she'd heard Reid say something about arrow usage in the Middle Ages and how even if you survived an arrow shot then you'd have to be careful about how you would extract it because if you weren't you could cause yourself far more damage - ripped skin and serious infection sort of damage.

So, yeah, she'd really rather not get hit by one. Hence the making sure that they didn't run in a straight line.

"Arrows? Where do you even get arrows?" Morgan asked, doing as he was told and running in an 'S' shape.

"Is that really important right now?"

Seriously, why was he thinking of where the arrows had come from instead of how to get away from them? Because getting away from them was definitely at the top of her list. You know, next to, don't get pierced by aforementioned arrows.

"That's the sort of information that could help us with the case."

"I think it's pretty obvious that this guy's our unsub."

Had she mentioned that, thankfully, the area they were running through wasn't completely barren and they were able to make a quick swerve and get somewhat out of sight. Too quick as they both did a tumble to the ground, Emily getting quite an impressive mouthful of dirt as she did so.

"Bleurgh!" She exclaimed, spitting the dirt out.

Oh, that was just nasty. Yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck, YUCK. Better than getting pierced by an arrow. Just about.

"Get off me," she growled, elbowing Morgan, who had landed on top of her in a way that half of his body was quite literally on top of her.

A bit of scrambling around and they were both soon on their feet.

"I'm pretty sure that they're just props," Emily gasped out, bent double as she tried to catch her breath against the wall they were hiding behind.

Before Morgan could reply, an arrow went whizzing past them and embedded itself firmly into a crate just beyond them.

"Very, very historically accurate props," she quickly amended

"We need to get out of here," decided Morgan as another one whizzed by.

"Split up?" Emily suggested.

"Sounds like a plan."

So, that's what they did. And it looked like they were successful in distracting their unsub because there was a brief pause in the barrage of arrows. Bit before either of them could sigh in relief in returned at what seemed like twice the rate. Which didn't bode well for anyone.

"Ow!" Emily cried out, immediately starting to hop on one foot as she clutched at her injured one.

Then she clapped a hand over her mouth, hoping that no one had heard her, wincing as her injured foot hit the ground. Okay, that wasn't a good move.

She quickly looked around and almost sighed in relief as she noticed that Morgan had had to dive behind a dumpster. A dumpster which had several arrows littered on the ground in front of it. Right, he was a bit preoccupied. Good.

She toed off her boot and sock quickly to look at her foot. There was a hole in the boot but it looked like it didn't go the whole way through. She'd have to check the inside of her boot at some point for the full damage but the arrow hadn't broken through any skin. On the other hand, she probably was going to get a wicked bruise on her foot. There was already this massive red spot on the top of her foot and it felt like every little bone in there ached. But no blood. Yeah, no blood. Emily heaved a sigh of relief at that. After everything that had happened today, the last thing she needed was an actual injury. Nope. All she had was a sore foot and she could live like that.

Quickly pulling her sock back on, and wincing at the feel of putting a sweaty one back over her skin (did anyone ever like that feeling?), Emily all but shoved her foot back on. Which was a bad idea when you had a sore foot, by the way. Especially when that sore foot was caused by an arrow! But she could ignore all that - there was nothing that needed her attention or medical attention right now. Though, there was an unsub that was going to need her attention.

"Hey, is that one of the arrows?" JJ asked as Emily tried to hide her slight limp.

Dammit, she had forgotten that she had had one of the arrows in her hand. She would just have to ne careful that no one connected this arrow with her foot.

"Yeah," Emily said, handing it over top her. "They're pretty heavy, look."

JJ took it from her and balanced it between her hands.

"Wow. You guys are lucky you didn't get hit."

"I was right, they are just props. They aren't even pointy."

Though, on that note, Emily was just glad that it didn't actually pierce her skin and leave blood or else there would be a lot more questions from her team.

"Yeah, but the weight of this could do some serious damage."

Oh, she knew that alright.
