What should of happened in session 4
Chapter 5
Meeting Halfpint.
Andrews Air Force base was a flurry of activity as they waited for the C-17 that was bringing 6 POW's home. There families had all been contacted, and were waiting in the bleachers that had been set up for the occassion. A large crowd was present, families and friends of five of the men had flown in from all over the U.S to be here for this. The Families of the Air force flight crew that were bringing home those 6 men, had also made there way out to the air field to welcome home 6 returning heroes.
Three Ambulances waited at the side of the tarmac, along with fire trucks a white limousine and a few other vechicles. A hush went threw the crowd as everyone caught there first sight at the plane. The large spec on the early morning horizon, grew until the visiable outline of the Large plane came into view clearly.
The plane's wheels gently touched down on the runway, continuing to thunder down the runway as her pilot slowed her speed, bringing her to a stop. They all watched as the pilot manovered her bulk round and made the slow journey closer to where the bleechers had been set up. Ground personel stood by, waiting, as the plane came to a complete stop, and the pilot signalled them. They immidietly secured the plane's wheels with chocs, and waited till the load ramp at the rear of the craft lowered itself to the ground.
The load master, helped the men disembark, indicating to the families that were waiting to greet them. They slowly made there way towards there families and friends, scanning the crowds before them, searching, and missing certain faces. Loved ones that had moved on, or passed away after they had been in captivity for so long. Even finding new faces of children they had never met before that day.
The Navy SEALS were next of, avoiding the crowd they walked to the jeeps that would take them to the main buildings, where Admiral Robinson would be to de-brief them on the mission. Airwolf's crew was the next to disembark, Saint John Hawke with them.
Saint John knew there would be no family there for him, his was already by his side. He was startled out of his thoughts when a young boy ran towards them. He came to a stop right infront of him. He glanced at String, Dom and Caitlin, then threw his arms around Saint John's chest and hugged him. Instinctually wrapping his arms around the small body in return, Saint John Hawke held his son for the first time.
"Le?" He asked, waiting for the boy to look up at him. "I'm sorry, I never knew about your existence. For the safety of your mother and grandparents, I'd left long before she could tell me about you. I'm not sure if you are my son, but I'd like to try to be your dad. If that's ok with you."
"That's very ok." He said. "Uncle String said he'd be my dad if you didn't want to be, but I'm glad it's gonna be you."
"Thanks," he said looking at String.
String just smiled at his brother. Cait was wiping a few tears from her eyes, which he noticed. Throwing his arm around her shoulder he pulled her to his side, dropping a kiss on her forehead. She slipped her arm around his waist resting her head on his shoulder as she watched the happy scene playing out in front of her. A flash of white caught his eye and turning to look, he spotted Michael and Marella walking towards them.
"Any problems," String asked nodding his head towards Le.
"None at all. Marella and myself have found him quiet enertaining." Michael shared as he came to a stop in front of the group.
"Thanks for watching him though." He said, before introducing him to his brother. "Michael, Marella, I'd like you to meet my brother Saint John. Sinj this is Michael and Marella."
"Welcome home Major Hawke." Marella said with a warm smile, shaking his hand before stepping back to allow Archangel to greet him.
"Thanks." He replied as he briefly wondered what all the white was about. The man String had introduced as Michael held his hand out and he took it returning the hand shake.
"I must say it's quite a pleasure to meet you Saint John, I've had to endure your brother pestering me for the past several years on finding you. I'm extremely glad that he has the out come that he wished for." Michael said with the utmost sincerity. He had over the last few years come to be quite close to Air Wolfs crew, considering them as friends rather than associates.
"Probably because you know your finally going to get the Lady back." Grumbled Dom. He was going to miss the old girl, she'd given him a whole new lease of life.
"About that." Michael said as he rubbed a spot on his chin, a small glint in his eye. "I think we all need to have a talk. I'll expect you in my office tomorrow morning, after you've safely returned Airwolf to the lair. We can discuss the matter of Airwolf then. " He stepped away from them, called Marella and moved towards his car. They watched as Michael's driver opened the door for them and he waited untill Marella got in and slid across the seat before he joined her.
"That was wierd," Cait pointed out.
"Yeah." Agreed String wondering what Michael had up his sleeve, and if he'd like it.
"Yeah, I was sure he was going to insist on Airwolf straight away. He's up to something String." Dom was stood with his hands on his hips, watching as Michaels car left the air strip and headed for the main gate. "He's a devious bastard, that's for sure."
...
The following morning they arrived at the FIRM's LA branch office, landing the Santini air jet ranger in the parking lot. They made there way up to Michael's office and was greeted by Marella. After showing them in to Michael's private office, she excused herself to attend to her duties with the promise that Michael would be with them shortly. The 3 of them dropped down into the comfortable chairs that surrounded the large desk and made themselves comfy as they waited for Michael to arrive.
After about 5 minutes the door opened, and Michael made his way to his desk, taking his seat. "My apologies for not being here, I had a meeting with the committie that took longer than planned."
"Where do you want Airwolf dropping off. She'll need some pretty extensive repairs doing, we took some damage to her systems on the way out of the camp." Hawke said getting straight down to business.
Michael just looked at him, running his finger across his bottom lip, before speaking. "As I said, I've been in a meeting with the committee. During the last 48 hours, certain things have come to my attention. We have found out a few things about the explosion of Dominicks helicopter. While you were on the mission, Marella noticed a few discrepancies in my computer logs. Namely, access to your scheduling. The access had been done on my personel log in, not unusual as I often check it. This time though I was not in the office, as Marella and myself were both having dinner at that time." Michael informed, noticing their interest in the last part. "I'd taken Marella out for her birthday. Once she started going back through my sections access reports, she found other errors. Some one has quite frequently been accessing my system to keep tabs on the 3 of you." He informed, waiting for Hawke's temper to boil over at the news.
"Michael, I'm sure all this is fascinating, but who caused the bloody explosion." Hawke growled, he was beyond angry. Someone had deliberately tried to kill Caitlin, Dom and himself. He wanted a name, and by god he'd get his revenge.
"Zeus," was all Michael said.
"What, where the hell is he right now." He shouted, getting up from his seat and glaring at Michael.
"The morgue. After we presented the information to the other members of the committie, Zeus was forced to resign. He was found by his wife yesterday morning, gun in hand, suicide note in front of him." Michael paused a moment, then added. "There is rumours of course, that some members of Zebra squad visited him, but we can't confirm anything."
String dropped back down into his seat. They all understood what Michael was saying, they didn't have to go after Zeus. Michael had already taken care of it. Zebra squad was Archangel's creation, and although the committee had full access to them, they followed Michaels orders completely.
"The committee has promoted me, I will be taking over Zeus's section. One of my first acts has been to hand over the general day to day operations of the Airwolf project to Marella. I want the 3 of you to carry on flying Airwolf for the FIRM. After the incident with space guard the President himself has started to take an interest in Airwolf. He's also really pleased with the outcome of the recent mission and has suggested it could be something that we work on again with the Military." Michael paused, watching Hawke to gauge his reaction. He already suspected the 3 of them would agree to continue flying Airwolf.
Hawke glanced across towards Dom and Cait, noting they wore pretty identical grins. They had all fallen in love with the super sleek craft, and was loathe to give her up. They had all known that once String found his brother that the deal with Archangel would be over, and had already come to terms with giving her up. Now though, Archangel had given them something positive to look forward to. String thought for a minute, then decided that maybe some ground rules and bonus's should come out of this. After all Michael wanted the three of them, they should at least get something out of the deal. "Ok, I...we have a few ground rules and non-negotiable requests." He added as he glanced at his friends.
"Of course." Michael, had already expected this. He had drove a hard bargain, last time he had done a deal with him.
"I want a full mission bio before each mission, and I still have the right to turn down a mission if I don't want to take it. We want full access to all Red Star facilities...Hanger...Repairs...Tec upgrades...The range...Medical facilities, everything."
Michael nodded his head in agreement, happy to give him the full access he demanded. "I'm assuming then that you will be wanting to bring Airwolf back to Red Star." Michael said.
"No." Hawke answered. "We'll keep her at the Lair for the time being, I'd feel a lot more comfortable if only Dom, Cait and myself have access to her for now."
"Ok, I don't see any problems with your requests. I'm assuming that you won't have any problems dealing with Marella."
"No that's fine. I'll only work with Marella or yourself Micheal, I expect to be connected or seen whenever I want to see either of you though." Hawke outlined.
"Of course, I'll have all our assistants notified of that arrangement." He agreed. It was a small inconvenience to be at Hawke's beck and call, but one which Michael would do if it meant he had Hawke flying Airwolf.
"We want paying for our time aswell." Dom put in. "And you owe me a chopper."
"That can be arranged. I don't see a problem with reimbursing you for the chopper given it was done by FIRM resources." Michael agreed. He wondered what else these two would come up with. The committee had agreed to the Airwolf budget beeing increased. They had also agreed that they would leave Airwolfs crew alone, especially with the Presidents new interest in them. Given that Michael had made a comment that, had Hawke known of Zeus's deceit with the bombing of Santini's chopper, then he would of most likely have gone after Zeus in Airwolf. It seemed the committee was scared of the idea.
"Maternity benefits, aswell." Dom added.
"What would you need with maternity benifits?" Michael was puzzled at that request, and assumed Dominick was simply being his usual annoying self.
"I'm pregnant Michael." Cait added quietly, clearing that up.
"You are? Congratulations, Cait." Michael said, somewhat confused as he wasn't aware she was dateing anyone. "I wasn't aware of you being in a relationship at prescent."
"Thank you, Michael." She didn't add no more.
Michael heard Dominick mutter something under his breath about responsibilities and marriage. He shook his head and pointed out about security with the babies father. "What's his name, I'll have Marella run some security checks on him. It can't hurt to be a little cautious, given the nature of the work you do for the firm. If the babies father try's using you both to gain access to Airwolf."
All three of Airwolfs crew began laughing. Caitlin spoke up again, "There's no need to do a security check. The babies daddy already knows about Airwolf, he doesn't need us to gain access."
Michael briefy wondered if it was someone from the FIRM. "If he already knows about Airwolf, then I'm even more concerned."
"Michael, the baby's mine." String said, watching as Archangels mouth opened and no sound came out. "I don't need to use either Cait or the baby to get Airwolf, I already have her in my possesion."
"Looks like you found a way to shut him up Kid," Dom said chuckling. As much as he was upset with the circumstances, he did so love to needle Michael.
Michael closed his mouth and then opened it again, only managing one word, "How."
"You need me to give you the birds and the bees talk Michael?" Dom asked in a sweet but sarcastic tone, making the others laugh.
"That's not what I meant." He snapped. "I mean how in the hell did that happen. As far as I'm aware you too have not been dating." He said, slightly annoyed at Dominick's antics.
"You know Michael, I've asked them that myself." Dom turned to look at String and Cait who were both looking round the room, as if suddely interested by the interior decoration. They were looking a little uncomfortable.
...
Saint John Hawke, sat up in bed as a nurse checked his blood pressure and took some blood. He was hooked up to a drip, which was helping to rehydrate and feed his body. He had also had a large dose of antibiotics injected into the drip. He had been assessed on his return by the base doctors in Washighton D.C and they had declared he was under nourished, under weight, and fighting of a severe bacterial infection. He had also had X-rays taken, which had comfirmed he'd suffered several broken bones during his years in captivity, all of which had thankfully healed correctly. None of the diagnosis had really surprised him and he suspected there would be more ailments and illnesses in his future due to everything that had happened.
His brother had spoken to the doctor and asked if it would be possible for him to be relocated to LA. The doctor had agreed that he was indeed fit enough to fly, but would need to be hospitalised as soon as they arrived in LA. So here he was, in his room in the VA hospital. He felt a little out of sorts, the nurses that were attending to his care were great, but he was having trouble wrapping his head around his surroundings. He was struggling with the idea of having furniture and proper indoor plumbing. The window overlooking the city landscape was spewing natural light into the room and Sinjin was still waiting for the dream to stop and the nightmare to return. He briefly closed his eyes and then opened them again but the view didn't change. Breathing in deeply through his nose, he could smell the disinfectant and the clean filtered air that was circulating through the room. Thankful that the smell of rotting vegetation, filth and body odour didn't assault his nostrils for the first time in 14 years.
Reassured that he was exactly where he was and not back in that hell hole, he thought back to the previous day's events. String had told him he was going to fly him back to LA in Airwolf, give them some time to catch up. After helping him into one of the jump seats in the back, String had handed him a head set so he could communicate with them. Saint John had been blown away with the chopper, everything his brother had told him was true. They had flown at 805 miles per hour, and accordig to Dom they were taking it easy. The g's had pushed him back into his seat, as String had hit the turbo button on the stick. The cockpit was full of electronic equipment, lights blinked on and of all over the place. Dom had spent the entire flight communicating to String on readings from the engineering console in the back.
Saint John had been content to sit back watching and listening to everything, most of what they were talking about was too much for him to understand anyway. Caitlin had been really nice, she kept turning round explaining things to him, helping him to understand what his brother and surrogate father were talking about. Cait had also asked Saint John for some juicy gossip on his brother, making Dom laugh and String threaten him with retaliation if he did.
Saint John laughed at Strings threat and proceeded to tell Cait a few of Strings child hood secrets anyway. How he'd broke his arm falling out the tree in front of there grandads cabin, the first time String caught a fish and had to clean it, his first crush on the girl next door when he was just 13, the time when he was 14 and put the baseball threw the neighbours window. He'd enjoyed his flight back, it had been exhilarating and fun.
Once Le had fallen asleep, he'd spoken to them about his time in the camp. How himself and the 5 other prisoners that he'd been freed with had all been pilots. They had spent there years in captivity being forced to fly for there captors. A gun stuck into there backs as they had been forced to transport cargo and fellow prisoners to other locations. It had been the only freedom any of them had, the freedom to fly. He'd told how it had probably saved his sanity over the years he'd been held. He was hopeful that the information himself and the other men were able to give could be used to rescue more prisoners.
His thoughts then drifted to Le, his son. That sounded so strange to him, he didn't know if the kid was really his. Mai had meant a lot to him, he hadn't loved her, but her and her family had done so much for him. They had nursed him back to health and took him in. If a VC patrol had come through the village, they would have killed everyone. The whole village had risked there lives for him. Saint John knew the only thing he could do to repay Mai and her village, was to raise her son.
String had suggested something called DNA testing, saying it would comfirm if he was Le's biological father. He didn't no if that was for the best or also if it would hurt the boy. Maybe he should ask the doctors what it was. If he had the information on what it was, he could make a decision on if they should have this test.
String had come by early this morning with Le, Dom and Cait. The adults hadn't stayed long, they had a meeting with the guy in the white suit. Le had asked if he could stay with his Dad, String had quietly asked him if it was ok. He'd nodded his agreement, and the 3 of them had left father and son to it.
The boy had been filling Saint John in on his schooling and his friends. He could tell what a large impact his brother had already had on the boy and was secretly glad that String had been willing to take on the boy, not really knowing if he was related by blood. Then again Dom had done the same for String and himself when they were kids. A sound at the door made him turn, watching as Le slipped back into the room after his trip to the vending machine down the hall.
...
String sat in the co-pilots seat of the Saintini Air chopper as Dom piloted it back to the air field, Caitlin was strapped in the back with a smile on her face the size of Texas. Mind Dom was the same aswell. He couldn't believe it himself, he had his brother back and he could still keep Airwolf.
Cait leaned forward in her seat, placing her hand on Strings shoulder. He turned to look at her. "I can't believe Michael let us keep the lady. Please tell me I'm not dreaming," She said with a little giddy laugh.
"If your dreaming, then so are Dom and me." String said, grinning back at her.
"I got to admit String, I wasn't expecting that. I'd prepared myself for losing the Lady when we got Sinjin back." Dom said glancing across at him. "I'm sure glad we can have both Sinjin and Airwolf."
"So am I, Dom." String glanced from Dom to Cait, both wore matching grins. "Hey, how about we all go out for a celabratory dinner."
"I'm in, kid." Dom replied instantly.
"You throw in some dancing and you got yourself a deal." Cait said.
"Ok, Dinner and and dancing it is. Gonna have to be child friendly though." He said reminding them he had Le to take care of.
"We wouldn't have it any other way, String." Cait said happily. "B52's would probably be a good place. None of the guys from the air field are gonna mind him being in there, and so long as he's in the dinning area, Bart will be ok with him being in there so late." She said refering to the Bar and Dinner near the airfield. It was used by most of the pilots in the area, they all new each other, and other than a bit of healthy business rivalry they were friends.
"Yeah the guys know Le, so he'll be just fine. You best save a dance for me Sweatheart." Dom said. The bar catered to the young and old pilots, which was why it was so popular with everyone.
"You always get the first dance, Dom." Cait said with a smile.
