The day had been relatively quiet, Darius and Heinkel had been winding Edward up, from what I gathered. I don't know what about, but Edward would lose his temper and then get in some pain so would have to stop for a moment. I do think it was because of this morning… did they really hear us?
We stayed in the apartment and Edward sorted out the letter for Darius to take to the bank tomorrow to get the money. Edward grabbed one of the coats I made off the side and looked at it,
"It sucks I can't wear my normal coat." Edward mumbled,
"Well, they would recognise you too easily with that coat." I explained as Darius looked at me,
"She makes sense." Darius nodded, Edward sighed as he looked at me and I had my guitar on my lap, I was tapping the belly of the guitar gently, just thinking about what our next move would be. I plucked at one of the strings, hearing the deep rumble in the guitar sometimes helped me think as I would wait three beats of my finger before pulling that one string gently.
"Can you play?" Heinkel asked as I blinked and looked at him,
"Hm?" I asked,
"Can you play that?" Heinkel repeated as I looked at my guitar,
"Yeah, I can play." I smiled as Edward walked around and sat on one of the other chairs with a grin,
"She's very talented with it!" Edward smiled as I felt my cheeks burn,
"I've had a long time to learn." I admitted,
"Still, it's a talent!" Edward smiled as I looked away, I sat there for a moment. I took a moment to think about how I was feeling, I was okay, but there was so much going on, so much to consider. I started to play the guitar with a low beat.
"I keep tryin' just to make it.
"To the end of the day, you know I hate it!

What do you do when the hero needs savin'?" I started with a small quiet melody, I had been a bit overwhelmed these last few weeks, with Kimblee reappearing.
"Honestly,

Yeah, honestly, I can't take it!" I started to raise my voice a little more, as I continued to sing and play.
"I say that I'm just fine,
But I don't feel alright on the inside!

Tonight, I don't feel alright on the inside." I continued as Edward had stood up, he moved to be in front of me as he knelt and put his hand on my knee, I smiled at him as I continued,

And I'm not okay, I'm not okay, no!" I stopped as Edward looked concerned.
I gave a sad smile as he looked over my face, he then stood up a moment later and offered his hand out,
"Let's go out." Edward spoke,
"I-Is it really safe for you to go out?" Heinkel asked,
"I don't care. I'm taking Reaka out," Edward spoke as he just stared at me, not breaking eye contact as I smiled.
I moved the guitar from my lap and stood up after taking his hand, Edward gave me the other black coat I made, and I looked at the two chimeras.
"Make sure to get the money for the two downstairs." I smiled as Darius nodded; the two men smiled at me as I left with Edward.
Closing the door, I looked at him and he was just staring at me,
"What?" I asked, Edward grabbed my wrist and pulled me along. I just looked at him as we walked together down the corridor, down the stairs and out the building. "Wait… Edward." I made him stand still as I grabbed the tie in his hair and pulled it out quickly, "too recognisable." I pulled my hair back and lifted it into a messy bun, using the tie that Edward just had.
Edward didn't say anything as I pushed his hair over his shoulder, I suddenly noticed that Edward was taller than me now, I stood beside him and he was looking down at me as I brushed his hair across,
"You're taller than me now." I smiled sadly as Edward frowned, he looked at the top of my head and then down at me and smirked,
"See, my growth isn't stunted." Edward smirked as I chuckled,
"Mine is-" I sighed as Edward pulled me to him and kissed me, cutting me off as I squealed in surprise.
"Every time you mention it, I'm going to stop you. We will fix this." Edward pulled back and poked his finger on the centre of my torso as I gently smiled and nodded,
"Sure." I smirked and Edward grabbed my hand as he walked down the street.
I smiled to myself as Edward held my hand, it was reassuring to know he was looking out for me. I looked up at him and I felt warm inside as he glanced at me for a moment,
"What do you want to eat?" Edward asked, I looked down the street as we stopped by a store,
"I'm not fussed, I'll eat anything to be honest." I shrugged,
"Apart from mushrooms." Edward smirked as I pouted,
"I hate the texture. How do you know that anyway?" I asked, Edward chuckled,
"I've seen you avoid them like a pile of crap whenever they've been in a dish we've eaten." Edward smirked as I felt my cheeks heat up,
"I- Well- I don't like them." I folded my arms as he chuckled,
"I know." Edward put his hand on my head as I looked inside,
"Let's have a look anyway." I spoke as Edward opened the shop door.
We bought a few bites to eat and a few to have on the way back to the clinic. Edward paid for the food as we were quick to pick what we wanted. I held the door open as he carried the bag outside,
"Thanks." Edward nodded as I smiled and pulled out a stick with some treacle treats on it, I took a bite out of one and Edward took the stick from me after I offered it and had a bite of another. We had another one in the bag, but I was a bit hungry.
We walked around town for a little while until we sat down in a park behind the clinic. I leaned back on the chair and closed my eyes as I normally did when I wanted a moment of peace and quiet. Though I felt something tap my foot as I looked down, I saw a ball roll and a child running up to get it.
"Sorry! Can you kick it back?" The kid waved as I smiled, I tapped it with my foot as I got up and then kicked it with the side of my foot a bit harder as it rolled towards the children who were playing, "thanks!" The same kid yelled and waved as I nodded.
I watched them play a moment as I frowned, I subconsciously put my hand on my stomach and turned and walked back to the bench as Edward watched me. I saw Edward look at my hand and then look away, seemingly embarrassed as I stopped and frowned in confusion.
"Everything okay?" I asked as Edward glanced at me and then turned his head,
"You're thinking about kids, aren't you?" Edward asked as I looked away and felt my face heat up,
"I- Yeah." I nodded as Edward smiled, "I know it's not something we have to do. Want to make sure I'm mortal first." I laughed awkwardly,
"We'll do- I mean… erm-!" Edward suddenly got embarrassed as he looked up at me, he looked terrified as he kept looking around,
"What's gotten into you?" I chuckled as Edward looked away, he sighed, and I put my hand on his leg, "Breathe, take a deep breath." I smiled as he nodded, Edward looked at me.
"A family… it's something I've not thought about." Edward looked at the kids as I smiled,
"It's not something most people your age would think about." I chuckled, "it's easy to forget my real age." I shrugged as Edward nodded, "Emotionally, I think I'm aware of what I want. I know how to process things. I'm in a very lucky place. I guess that's a benefit of immortality." I watched the kids as well, "it's helped me understand how to control certain aspects of my emotions and deal with things. Trauma, being something I've been able to learn to control." I explained as Edward frowned, I smiled and looked at him, "I'll always take moments like this to my heart though. I'll never forget them." I grinned as Edward smiled, "I love spending these moments with you." I added as Edward grabbed my hand, he didn't need to say the same back, but I could tell he enjoyed them too.
We spent some more time relaxing and then slowly went back to the clinic, as we got back though, we saw some military personnel. I put my hand on Edward's back gently as I felt a little bit on edge. Edward was eating the other stick of treacle bread sticks as I followed behind him, we noticed an officer by the door who looked at us both and stepped out,
"Hold it, do you two work at this doctor's office?" the man spoke as Edward held the bags, he looked incredibly pissed off as I was just behind him, "Have you seen anyone unusual frequenting the clinic lately? He's described as a red coat, blond hair worn in a braid, and short." The man spoke and the wooden stick snapped, Edward lost it, I put my hand to my forehead as the man was out cold on the floor within a second.
We heard yelling inside and quickly moved away, another officer came out and looked at the man on the floor,
"Harris! Harris, what happened to you? C'mon, snap to! Harris!" the officer picked up his friend as we both moved behind the man, both our fists landed on the back of his head to knock him out cold and I moved back to the wall to hide as Edward snuck in the room. I heard a large bang as I walked in and saw Edward's automail arm through the wall and I sighed as I saw the officer fall to the floor, and he smirked at me as I shook my head.
Darius got out of the bed holding his gun and sighed as Heinkel stood up,
"Well, damn. You just had to take 'em out on your own, huh? You're both pretty reckless, kids. You haven't even fully recovered yet." Darius spoke as he looked over the man on the floor, Edward walked into the doorway, and I moved to Heinkel.
"Don't treat me like I'm an invalid. My injuries are completely healed and I'm revving at full throttle." Edward clenched his fist as I rolled my eyes around his head for being so dramatic,
"Shall we make a move?" I spoke with a smile as Coral stood up,
"Please, do… we've got a mess to clean up now." Coral nodded as I looked at her,
"Sorry about this, was hoping we could sneak away without causing any issue." I laughed awkwardly and put my hand behind my neck,
"Yeah, sorry about this." Heinkel spoke as Tony looked at the men outside.
We grabbed our things, and I locked up my old apartment and gave the key back to Coral, putting a small backpack on my shoulder I moved outside the clinic in the hallway with Edward as Darius and Heinkel followed with the doctors.
"Thanks for everything you've done, doc." Darius spoke,
"Don't worry about it. Just hurry up and go." Tony waved his hand,
"We've had about all the trouble we can take for today." Coral added as we all turned to leave, and I grabbed the piece of paper from the floor and Edward looked at it over my shoulder. I was right that the description would be limited, a red coat and a braid was clear distinguishing features of Edward as I kept telling him. I glanced at Edward over my shoulder and saw a roll of bread in his mouth as I chuckled to myself.
"Freeze!" someone yelled, and we heard guns cock as we all turned and saw two soldiers at the end of the corridor, "Drop your weapons!" the soldiers called as I just stood next to Edward who looked blankly at them,
"We took too long." Heinkel muttered,
"Get your hands up in the air! Do it now!" the other soldier yelled with his gun aimed at us,
"Move it, kids! Those guys are dangerous!" The first soldier called, and I blinked in shock, did they think we weren't with them? I noticed Edward finish eating his bread roll as Darius and Heinkel nodded at one another.
Darius suddenly grabbed Edward, and Heinkel grabbed me,
"Stay back or their dead!" Heinkel spoke as Darius put a gun to Edward's head and Heinkel did the same to me,
"Don't force us to blow the kids brains out!" Darius yelled as I was just stunned at what was happening, the soldiers were shocked and pulled their weapons away, Darius lifted Edward under his arm and Heinkel carried me over his as I just let my head fall.
Darius kicked the door down and they saw more soldiers outside, Heinkel was able to shoot a roof ledge just above the soldiers and knock down a lot of snow on them. We kept running down the street,
"I'll hotwire some wheels for us." Darius spoke as we were just going along with whatever they were planning at this point,
"Okay" Heinkel nodded.
Getting around a corner into an alley, Darius opened the car door and started the engine within a minute as we were put on the back seat. Driving off I took a deep breath and Edward looked at me, he put his hand on my leg for a moment and then put his hair back in a ponytail. We both looked back and saw more cars on our tail as Edward looked back around,
"Hey, Gorilla! Step on it!" Edward yelled,
"Don't call me that!" Darius yelled as I glared at Edward slightly,
"Just drive faster!" Edward added,
"These guys are from Northern command. We're never gonna ditch 'em!" Darius explained as I frowned and looked away for a moment, Darius suddenly yelled, and the car swerved as we dodged a lorry and I banged into Edward as he put his arms around me. The car settled and I grabbed my chest as that made me jump,
"That was a little too close." Heinkel spoke as I took a sigh of relief,
"How's it lookin behind us?" Darius asked as I looked back with Edward,
"They're still there…" I spoke as Edward frowned, "Get a shift on, Darius!" I snapped,
"Damn it." Darius groaned, Edward suddenly moved forward and pointed at a road,
"Turn there! I've got an idea!" Edward spoke,
"What?" Darius asked,
"Just shut up and turn!" Edward yelled as he sat back, Darius looked angry as I held onto the car seat,
"Ahh! This better be a good plan!" Darius yelled, as he turned the wheel and we started moving,
"Just park the car as soon as we turn." Edward spoke and clapped his hands; we turned a corner and Darius quickly did a half turn in the car and we lined up with the pavement. Edward put his hands on the roof of the car, and it suddenly changed shape and design as I watched it move around us, it pushed me and Edward closer together in the back as we saw the military cars drive right by us.
We all sighed as they disappeared, Edward put his arm around me and smirked,
"Whew… and you doubted me." Edward spoke as he looked over my face,
"Yeah, well can you change it back into a normal car now?" Heinkel asked, Edward looked at Heinkel a bit hurt and frowned at him,
"And why's that? I think this car looks cool as hell." Edward complained, I sighed and put my thumb and forefinger on the bridge of my nose,
"Just change it back. Please, we're begging you. Even your girlfriend hates it." Darius spoke as he drove off,
"Oh yeah?! You guys got a problem with my sense of style?" Edward yelled and looked at me,
"You don't have any!" the three of us yelled as Edward pouted and sat back in the car.
"I'll do it then." I spoke and tapped my foot and the car changed back into something normal, but I kept a little bit of Edward's style in the back seat as he noticed and smiled to himself, I leaned into him, "It's not all bad, but not everyone is gonna like it, you know?" I whispered as Edward looked at me and nodded, he moved his hand and arm behind me again and around my waist as I smiled and looked out the window.
We left Mebbo and headed out onto the open road, Darius needed to take a toilet break as I wanted to stretch my legs. We all got out the car and Darius went to the tree not too far away and I stood a bit away from the car and stretched my arms in the air,
"So, I guess this means we're drifters again." Heinkel spoke,
"Yep." Darius nodded and I glanced at Edward as I leaned forward and tried to touch my toes to stretch my back, he was deep in thought.
"Hey, Fullmetal… quit spacing out. So, what's the next plan of action?" Darius asked as I stood up tall and reached my arms into the air,
"Well… let's see. The first thing we need to do is meet up with Al. He should be with Doctor Marcoh by now." Edward spoke as I leaned my upper body to the right,
"Well, where are they?" Darius asked,
"You do know how to find them, right?" Heinkel added, Edward sat down on the car side and was looking directly at me as he put his hands together to think. I leaned forward again, and Darius moved around and hit Edward across the head,
"Stop staring." Darius snapped, Edward grabbed his head,
"What the hell?! She's my girlfriend! I can look!" Edward snapped as Darius folded his arms,
"Don't do anything else with us around." Darius glared as I stood back up and looked at the three of them.
Edward took a moment and sighed as he looked away,
"I think I know where Al might go." Edward spoke finally as I walked back to them at the car,
"Shall we make a move then?" I asked and Edward nodded, he opened the car door, and I climbed in, and Edward put his hand on my back as I was surprised, he was helping me in, he never did anything like that normally. I heard Darius and Heinkel growl as I sat down and looked at the two chimeras outside,
"Stop winding them up." I mumbled and folded my arms,
"They keep forgetting you're my girlfriend." Edward snapped, "before we were together, everyone thought we were together, and now we are, people keep forgetting." Edward sighed as I chuckled,
"They are probably just being protective." I chuckled as Heinkel and Darius climbed in the front seats.
"Are you okay, Rea?" Heinkel asked, I nodded with a grin,
"Fine, thank you!" I nodded as Edward pouted and folded his arms,
"Where to, Fullmetal?" Darius asked and looked back at him,
"There's a house on the edge of Central. We hunkered down there once. Remember, Rea? When we had Gluttony?" Edward looked at me and I nodded,
"Yes, that makes sense." I nodded and the two chimeras turned back to the front and the engine started once more.
It took the rest of the day to get to the house in question, we ditched the car further down the hill and started walking together up, I was besides Edward, and he took my hand as we walked up. My heart would jump at the little gestures as it made me smile to myself. Getting to the top we looked at the broken-down house and I frowned, feels like a lifetime ago since we were last here…
"Where are we?" Darius asked as I stopped besides Edward,
"We've used this place as a hideout before." Edward spoke,
"And you're positive that your brother's here?" Heinkel asked as he looked at Edward,
"Oh, yeah. I know Al better than he knows himself." Edward smirked, "This is the only place he would be." Edward closed his fist with a smiled, I frowned looking at the building as it looked deserted.
As we moved inside Darius found a gas lamp and turned it on, we could clearly see no one was here as I walked further inside, Darius hit Edward over the head,
"Hey! There's nobody here! Yeah, you really know your brother." Darius snapped,
"We busted our tails for hundreds of miles for an empty house?" Heinkel spoke and then sniffed, I heard quick movement before and the sound of a gun cocking as I looked back and saw him point at the hole in the house. Edward jumped down and I ducked behind a crate as Darius killed the light.
As we heard the footsteps, I peaked around and saw a familiar face, Edward froze as well and we both looked in shock. The body of Ling collapsed and fell to the floor in front of Edward,
"Ling! I mean, Greed!" Edward was surprised as I stood up from behind the crate, Ling's stomach growled loudly as I stepped forward,
"Hungry… Need, food." Ling spoke,
"Jeez, it's Ling." I leaned forward and put my hands on my knees as Darius and Heinkel looked at him.
I went to sort Ling some food from what was in our bags as Edward, Darius and Heinkel moved Ling somewhere while he was out cold. I put the food out for Ling as Edward kept an eye on him. Ling was quick to take the food I put in front of him as I tried to make sure nothing was off or gone bad.
Heinkel and Darius were standing to the side as I sat next to Edward and Ling ate all the tins and cans I could find. Ling finished the food quickly and laughed,
"Well, that did the trick! Thanks, Edward, Reaka… You're too kind!" Ling smiled,
"It's amazing that you're not a giant fat-ass." Edward smirked as I chuckled, Darius started shaking the bag,
"He ate all of our rations." Darius spoke,
"Are you gonna introduce me to your pals?" Ling asked and looked at Darius and Heinkel, Edward pointed at Darius,
"Well, that's Mr Gor-!" Edward started but I covered his mouth quickly as Darius was bout to lose his shit for Edward calling him Gorilla again,
"That's Darius, and the other gentlemen is Heinkel." I grinned, the two chimeras nodded,
"We're ex-military." Heinkel explained, "But we wound up getting stuck working with these two somehow." Heinkel added as I moved my hand away from Edward as he was glaring at me slightly.
"Now what's this guy's story?" Darius pointed at Ling, Edward put his hand behind his head as I sat back,
"Well, let's see… It's really kind of complicated." Edward spoke,
"I'm a Homunculus." Ling just came out and said it as I sighed,
"Can you try to be more discrete?!" Edward snapped,
"Seriously?!" Darius asked,
"It'll take too long to explain. And what are you doing here, I thought you'd be in Central." Edward spoke as he looked at Ling,
"Well, to put it lightly, Greed had a falling out with the other Homunculi… So, I took advantage of his confusion and managed to regain control of my body. I had to get out of Central… and needed someplace close by to hide… So, I-!" Ling winced as he started to shake,
"What's the matter?" Edward asked as we leaned forward and I put my hand on Ling's arm gently,
"It's Greed, he's starting to fight back." Ling put his hand to his face as he leaned forward and Edward hit the back of his head as I shot a surprised look at him,
"Hey! No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no! Fight him back you idiot! Don't let him overpower you!" Edward kept hitting Ling's head as I kept my hand on his arm softly, Ling grabbed Edward's arm quickly,
"Jeez! Listen… that guy beneath Central... The one that they call their father. He's gonna open the portal on the 'day of reckoning.' I could be wrong about this… but I think you and Al should jump in when he does. It's the best chance you have to get your bodies back." Ling explained, Edward gasped as I leaned back on my heels,
"Wait a minute. That makes sense and everything but there's a toll that must be paid to even open the portal." Edward spoke and paused a second as he looked even more shocked, there was something he hadn't told me yet… "This 'day of reckoning?' Do you know the exact day he's gonna open it?" Edward asked,
"It's happening…" Ling started and then grabbed his face again,
"Ling? Come on…" I cooed gently and rubbed his arm as he winced,
"Damn it… I can't hold him much longer. The message…" Ling removed his hand slowly and started to sweat, "You got it to Lan Fan, right? You gave her the message?" Ling asked and looked at me, I nodded,
"Al took it to her… she's doing okay." I smiled at Ling,
"We don't know where she is, but she's safe." Edward added,
"Thank you, Ed, Rea. That's good to hear." Ling started wincing again,
"Ling!" Both Edward and I spoke,
"Sorry, that's it for me… I'm gone." Ling frowned and sighed as he stopped shaking and I closed my eyes and put my head down.
"Damn, pain in the ass prince." Greed spoke as he sat back and I removed my hand, "He needs to learn to keep his big mouth shut." Greed growled,
"Is that you, Greed?" Edward asked, Greed looked at Edward and glared,
"Yeah, what tipped you off?" Greed glanced at me for a second and we heard a gun cock, Heinkel aimed it at Greed who stood up,
"Don't bother… you can't even scratch me with that thing." Greed put his hands in his pocket, "Well, see ya later." Greed walked by us and both Edward and I were surprised he wasn't really attacking us again,
"Hey! Aren't you gonna try and capture us?" Edward stood up and looked at Greed, I moved beside him, and Greed looked back at Edward and I,
"Huh? Were you even listening to anything that prince told you?" Greed asked, he pointed at himself, "I'm working on my solo career now. All these memories came flooding back, and I kind of went nuts and attacked Bradley. Who knows what they'd do to me if I go crawling back. And I don't really work well with others, so it's probably for the best. And that's that." Greed explained and turned to walk away.
Edward took a step forward,
"Why don't you team up with us?" Edward asked, Greed suddenly stopped, Darius and Heinkel looked at Edward, "You've got nowhere to go. Why not come with us?" Edward added, Greed slowly turned around and looked at us, he started laughing,
"Team up with you? You want me to follow you? Thanks for the laugh." Greed grinned, "Up yours, kid! This world is my possession, not yours. Now it's a different story if you wanna follow me… you're welcome to join my team." Greed started chuckling, he turned on his heel and started walking away, "later." Greed spoke as I looked at Edward.
"We need him…" I spoke as Edward nodded,
"I agree." Edward nodded,
"Shall we go after him?" I asked, and Edward grinned he took off as I followed Edward. Darius and Heinkel followed behind me.
We saw Greed up ahead,
"Hey! Ling! Wait up!" Edward yelled,
"How many times do I have to tell you? I'm Greed, not Ling." Greed looked at Edward as we stopped in front of him,
"It's too difficult to keep track of… I'll just call you Greeling from now on." Edward frowned,
"No! You will not-!" Greed started,
"Listen to me, Greeling. I'll follow you." Edward folded his arms, Greed looked shocked suddenly, "I thought about it, and I've decided to join your team after all. And since these guys seem to follow us everywhere, you've got two chimeras on your team as well." Edward pointed over his shoulder at Darius and Heinkel, the two chimeras suddenly push Edward to the floor and start beating him up as I sighed and put my hand to my forehead,
"Who do you think you are?! You don't get to make that call!" Darius yelled,
"Nobody said you were out boss, pipsqueak! You little runt!" Heinkel yelled,
"You deserve this…" I sighed, and Greed looked at me.
Darius and Heinkel stopped shortly after and Edward was laying on the floor,
"I realised something… I've been a follower ever since I became a dog of the military. I lost my pride a while back. So, I'm already used to rolling over on command…" Edward lifted himself off the ground, "And besides… there's too much at stake. I can't let any information you've got slip through the cracks." Edward chuckled, "I really can't let my ego get in the way." Edward smirked, as Greed was listening and soon started laughing.
"Alright, kid. But workin' for me means you haveta' live in the shadows, I don't wanna hear any regrets." Greed pointed at Edward,
"Give me a break. I've already got a million regrets. What's one more?" Edward grinned,
"A million and one." Darius and Heinkel spoke,
"Good, then it's settled… so then you guys are working for me too." Greed walked over to Heinkel and Darius as Edward looked at me,
"Doesn't seem like we have much choice." Heinkel spoke,
"I don't care who I follow as long as they're feeding me." Darius put his hand on his stomach.
"So, what kind of Chimeras are you?" Greed asked as I saw Edward smile and he put his hand on my back,
"I'm part gorilla," Darius answered,
"And I'm part lion." Heinkel added as Greed chuckled. Edward suddenly froze as I looked at him as he pulled his hand out of his other pocket and I saw a handful of earrings,
"Heh, well that's pretty cool." Greed smirked, as I looked back at Edward.
"Winry's?" I asked as Edward nodded,
"She gave them to me, before we were split up." Edward frowned as I watched him close his fist and I put my hand on his,
"We'll see them again." I smiled as Edward nodded.
"Mother…" Greed spoke as Edward cringed and looked at Greed.
"Don't call her that-!"
"Don't call me that-!"
Both Edward and I spoke at the same time as Greed raised an eyebrow,
"Whatever, what are you doing?" Greed asked as I blinked,
"Well, I go wherever Edward goes." I smiled and Greed smirked,

"Where else would Alphonse or Winry go?" I mumbled, Edward looked down as I looked to the sky, "Resembool?" I questioned, Edward nodded as he looked at Greed as he walked away with Darius and Heinkel, "I'll see if we can get to Resembool." I smiled as Edward nodded.
