Pairing: Gideon/Hotch (M/M) hand, ping pong paddle

Robespierre once wrote, "Crime butchers innocents to secure a prize. And innocence struggles with all its might against the attempts of crime."

This chapter is roughly based on Season 2, Episode 8 "Empty Planet"

Jason Gideon couldn't help but notice that Derek was squirming in his seat. If he didn't know any better, he would think the young agent was sitting on a freshly spanked bottom. The whole team was out having a very elegant dinner at Ocean Prime, a steak and seafood place that was pretty swanky. Gideon liked the steak here, but was glad everyone was paying their tab. Rossi was on his book tour and unlike him, Gideon didn't have cash to burn.

The team was in high spirits and everyone was drinking and chatting amicably, but Derek.

Gideon leaned over, "What's wrong, Derek? You don't like your steak? We can send it back..." Derek had ordered the 12 oz bone-in filet for about $60 a pop. Jason himself always added the black truffle butter, but Derek said plain meat was fine for him.

"Oh no, it's great. It's just I got in trouble two days ago. At work...With Hotch," Derek said pointedly.

Gideon smiled, "I know, Son. I've been there a few times when you kids have acted up. I bet you got your bottom smack pretty good. Wait, did you say you got in trouble two days ago? And you are still in pain!" Gideon's smile faded and he looked at Aaron, who was laughing for once. Hayley was with him and she was telling the story of how they met in high school.

Derek nodded, "It's my fault, I guess. We disagreed on a case and I smarted off to him. Or I said something that made him mad. I'm not really sure..."

Jason patted his hand, "I'll have a talk to him, Derek. Why don't you get your food wrapped up and maybe you can eat it later."

"Yes, Gideon. I'll do that. I think I'm going to take off, if that's okay," Derek mumbled, embarrassed.

"Hey, it's okay. I mean it, this isn't going to happen again. You go relax," Gideon encouraged.

"I will," Derek said. Gideon watched Aaron. He seemed oblivious to what was going on with Derek tonight. Yes, Gideon was going to deal with this once and for all.

Quantico, Virginia

Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU)

Federal Bureau of Investigation

Monday Morning

J.J. had a recording playing of a bomb threat. She went on, "Virtually identical threats have been made to most of the coast-to-coast new networks in the country...so it's not a recorded message or script."

Derek shared, "That displays a measure of confidence."

"He could have easily just called one network," Emily agreed.

After Reid discussing the unabomber and the team agreeing that this case was urgent and possibly a personal cause bomber, the team was dispersed to get ready to head to Seattle.

Gideon stepped out quickly after Hotch, "Aaron, I need to speak to you-privately."

Gideon almost missed it but he saw a spike of fear in Hotch's eyes.

"What is it? I said we were leaving," Aaron complained.

"Young man, you want to do this in the hallway?" Gideon asked with a hint of disbelief.

Aaron tightened his lips, "Sorry." He stepped aside and let Gideon enter his office first. He closed the door.

"So I know you didn't notice, but at the seafood place the other night, Derek could barely sit in his chair. He said that you had given him a spanking several days earlier?" Gideon revealed.

Aaron Hotchner looked frustrated, "This is what this is about. Jason, he was very rude and disrespectful to me. God, if I had spoken to my father like that, I'd be dead right now. I paddled him hard enough so he learns a lesson."

"First of all," Gideon breathed, "you have mentioned that your father was abusive. So that is not an appropriate example. Did you want to abuse Derek?"

Hotch snapped, "Of course not, I love every one of them. They are my family, too."

"But you went overboard. Aaron, how many times have I reminded you that you can't give out consequences when you are upset? You need to calm down and think rationally and then act, just like in the field," Gideon commented.

"I know," Hotch answered, he looked guilty this time. "But he deserved it!"

"Aaron, you are way out of line here. He was in pain two days after you punished him! I know a spanking is supposed to sting and a sore bottom can last a few hours, but days...No, not okay. And Derek wasn't even clear on why you disciplined him. That is important. You crossed the line," Gideon said somberly.

"I can punish my team however I want. You are not in charge anymore, Jason. Get over it," Hotch screamed, right before grabbing his jacket and brief case and storming out of the office.

Gideon was stunned. He went to his office and got his things, he was too upset to even process what had just happened. A part of him wanted to grab Hotch and bent him over the desk and swat him until he came to his senses, but he was too angry himself. He had to follow his own advice.

Seattle, Washington

Hotch tried to get Derek to step away from the car. He might die here, if he didn't.

Derek said, "I respect you, Hotch. But I'm not leaving her."

Hotch growled, "I'm ordering you to step away now."

Gideon could see that Hotch was losing his temper with Derek. Gideon was worried, too, but the agent was keeping the woman calm. They were all in the BAU to save innocent lives and that's what Derek was doing.

Gideon grabbed Hotch's arm, "You're too emotional. Go wait for me in the car."

"No, he's going to get himself killed," Hotch spat.

Gideon pulled Hotch firmly in front of him, he repeated his order, "Go wait for me in the car and that is an order, Aaron. Now."

Hotch cast one last look at Derek and turned and obeyed Gideon. Ten minutes later, the civilian was safe and so was Derek. Gideon took a deep breath and turned to deal with Hotch. This had gone on too long. Yes, the bomber was still out there, but the team was in trouble.

Aaron was still lingering outside of the black SUV when Gideon came over.

"I told you twice to get in the car," Gideon reprimanded. "Derek's fine. Now, you ought to worry about yourself." Gideon gave the seat of Aaron's pants a mighty smack as the younger man got into the SUV. Aaron moved a lot quicker and buckled himself in quietly. Gideon got in and they drove to the hotel without speaking.

When they entered the lobby, Gideon directed Hotch to head upstairs and go to his hotel room. Aaron thought he heard him ask the attendant of they had a game room. Why would he need that?

Aaron took off his jacket, used the bathroom, then washed his face and hands. He sat on the bed, waiting. A moment later, Gideon came in openly carrying a ping pong paddle. Aaron wanted to run, but he stayed frozen in place. Was this how Derek felt that last time?

Gideon raised the paddle, "I thought it was fitting since you spanked Derek with one."

"The paddle I used on him was a lot worse. That thing looks like it would barely sting," Aaron quipped.

"We'll see. Now, how would you have reacted if one of the others spoke to you the way you spoke to me yesterday?" Gideon asked slowly. "Go ahead and lean over the edge of the bed."

"Jason, we are still in the middle of a case. We don't have time for this!" Hotch whined. He stood up, but didn't bend over.

"Answer my question," Gideon insisted. "And bend over."

Aaron cleared his throat, "I probably would have spanked right there in anger. Fine? Is that what you wanted me to say?"

"Bend over. You might lose the attitude while you are at it," Gideon scolded.

"Yes, sir," Aaron said in a sarcastic manner. He leaned over defiantly as if he didn't mind.

Gideon leaned over and spanked him with his bare hand five times. Slap. Slap. Slap. Slap. Slap.

"Do you think you deserve a spanking then?" Gideon asked.

"Yes, I shouldn't have acted in anger," Hotch choked out. The spanks were burning his behind.

"So why am I spanking you now?" Gideon asked. He picked up the paddle and smacked it down on the center of Hotch's slacks. Pop!

"Ow," Hotch gasped. The paddle did smart, more than he imagined. "Because I disciplined Derek in anger and was too hard on him. I've been frustrated lately and stressed."

"Yes, and that's okay. But you need to admit when you need help. You can delegate some jobs to us, paperwork, whatever. But you cannot take out your stress on your loved ones. It becomes a habit. Would you yell at Hayley like that? Or even discipline your son when you are angry?" Gideon prodded. He was tapping the paddle on Hotch's rear lightly. Only popping it down sporadically. Pop! Pop! Pop!

"Ahhhh, no, I would never hurt them like that," Hotch shouted. Pop! Pop! Pop!

"That you don't hurt your other family like that. I expect you to apologize to Derek and give him a big hug. He loves you so much and I saw how much you care about him," Gideon shared. Pop! Pop!

"But he could have died today!" Hotch cried. Pop! Pop! Gideon could not hear the sobs, but Hotch's shoulders shook with emotion.

"Yes, but he was doing his job. You can't protect him from that, nor will you punish him. Now, I want you to get over my lap," Gideon demanded quietly.

Hotch stood and wiped his face. He looked at Gideon without the anger and attitude and got over his knees. Gideon applied the paddle where he thought it would do the most good, right on Hotch's rear.

Whack! Whack! Whack! Whack!

Whack! Whack! Whack! Whack!

After a minute or two of paddling, Gideon ordered Hotch to take down his pants.

He stood, unbuckled his dress belt and slid his suit pants to his knees. He leaned back over with his upper body resting on the bed. Gideon began to paddle Aaron's briefs and every now and then giving him a good swat on the tops of his thighs. Aaron tried to take his punishment, but the burn built up and became too intense. He squirmed and fussed until he almost managed to push himself up.

"No, settle or these brief will be around your knees, too," Gideon warned. Whap. Whap. whap. whap. whap.

"It burns so bad. Stop, Gideon. Please," Hotch yelped.

Whack! Whack! Whack! Whack!

Whack! Whack! Whack! Whack!

"I'm going to paddle you until you learn a lesson. Then, we will talk and get back to work. You will think of this spanking every time you get the urge to lose your temper," Gideon fired back. Aaron wiggled violently and tried to move his behind away from that dreadful, round paddle.

"That's it," Gideon stated.

Aaron then felt his briefs being lowered and he shrieked. Gideon held him in place and paddled in a flurry of fast swats until Hotch's buttocks were evenly pink. Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop!

A few minutes later, Gideon threw the paddle aside and lifted up Hotch. He let the dark haired agent in charge, sob into his white dress shirt while he held him.

"It's okay. All forgiven. You talk to Derek and make up to him. You will feel a lot better," Gideon promised.

"You're not mad at me," Hotch sniffed, looking directly at Gideon.

"No, Hotch. I never was mad at you. I was furious at your behavior, but I will always love you and be there for you. Even when you misbehave," Gideon confided.

"Love you, too. But I hate that stupid paddle. I'm going to blow it up," Hotch fumed. He rubbed his sore cheeks and they both laughed.

"Let's get back to work," Gideon said, helping Hotch pull his pants up over his aching, throbbing behind. He would not forget how handy Gideon was with a paddle, but he would be fine by tomorrow.

Jet back from Seattle, Washington

The team had a harrowing few days of catching the bomber. But they did catch the guy, who thought an author of a science fiction novel was his long-lost mother. She was not. Derek, his behind now healed, leaned back in the jet seats in comfort. Gideon was sitting across from him.

Derek smirked a little, "I heard you were worried about me."

"Excuse me?" Gideon replied dryly.

"The bomb at the garage under the car?" Derek prompted, "'A young man that I greatly admire and respect is putting his life on the line.'"

Gideon nodded, "What you did with the bomb. Stupid."

"Gideon, I couldn't leave that lady out there by herself like that," Derek defended.

Gideon gave a small smirk of his own, "I didn't say you were wrong. And what he said I said..."

Derek smiled, "I knew that."

"Hotch talked to you?" Gideon asked casually.

"Yeah, he apologized and even gave me a hug," Derek smiled. "You didn't have anything to do with that, did ya?"

"I can't say," Gideon smiled. Then, Reid came over for a game of chess.
