Chapter 11

Ruby has woken up in the morning and tried to wingle herself out of Sienna hug, but she could not do it, without waking her up. Little Rose decided to stay and wait for Khan to wake up.

For the next two hours Ruby lied comfortably in the bed, while being used as a body pillow. Finally her leader awoke and she was able to stand up in her pyjamas and say "Good morning miss Khan"

The high leader stood up half naked and answered "Good morning Ruby", while reaching her wardrobe for clothes and her weapon. Ruby also changed her clothes into daily combat gear.

"Bring us breakfast and a cup of coffee for me. After eating we will talk about your mission" Sienna ordered her, while getting to sit on the chair next to a table.

Ruby left the room, leaving the doors partially open and used her semblance to deliver everything in two courses. After eating, she collected the plates and cup. Ruby then returned them to the canteen and closed the doors on her way back to the bedroom.

"Now that we are ready, let's discuss your mission. Your target is Gregor Grey, the owner of Bauxer Mining Company. He is going to leave his safe house in order to meet Jacques Schnee in three days to discuss a new mining site. The meeting will take place inside a private room in a high class restaurant called 'the atlas finest' inside Atlas city. All private rooms have armored windows that can stop most of the weapon calibers, but it should not be a problem for your scarlet rose from what I read. Your job is to kill Gregor Grey. It can be done before, during or even after it any way you want, but it needs to be done. Jacques is too important and valuable to Atlas kingdom and any charm befalling on him will bring major consequences in the form of a mobilised Atlas army with hunters. You can take the bullhead filled with weapons going to the local white fang cell nine in the morning, where you will be supplied with the map of the city. They should mark the safe house too. We do not know in which room the meeting will be. Your codename will be 'Black Rose'. Don't use your real name. The Atlas cell leader will be briefed soon. Any questions?"

"No miss Khan".

"Then good luck Ruby".

Ruby checked the time and saw it was already eight thirty seven. She took her prepared backpack from yesterday and went proudly to the landing pads. Ruby managed to arrive ten minutes before the take off and started looking around for a proper bullhead. There were some people loading crates to one, so she went there and asked "Is this bullhead going to Atlas city at nine?" while she took one of the smaller crates into the cargo of the freighter.

"Yes. No need to help us"

"Well I received a mission there, so it would be great if you allowed me to stay inside".

"Who ordered it?"

"High leader Sienna Khan. She also informed me of this bullhead" Ruby dropped her bomb onto them.

"In that case you are welcome inside. Also there is no real need for you to keep loading these crates, as we are finishing it" he repeated himself, as Ruby took another box and loaded it inside.

Ruby this time listened and decided to find a place inside for her to fly comfortably. After a moment she found one and decided to sit down.

Couple minutes later she heard "All engines check, system green, takeoff in ten seconds. Destination Atlas city outpost"

After a short countdown they started and flew towards Atlas. The flight itself took four hours, making her take a short nap inside, which she was woken up by landing procedure.

Moments later the ramp lowered and Ruby took the first step outside. The landing pad was hidden in the middle of the forest far from the city and it contained a guard squad against grimm and a couple of vehicles with open trunks to load the supplies. It took her a while to spot the person in charge, which she decided to approach and report.

"Black Rose reporting for mission".

He took a moment to judge her by the looks and said "You are shorter and younger than I thought. Here's your Intel. Dismissed". He then threw her a map with an attached piece of paper while still managing to be a complete asshole to her.

Ruby caught the map and checked it out. They marked the safe house and hotel on it. The piece of paper had only 'Time: unknown, Room: unknown, Day: march 15 Additional info: All private rooms are facing south with windows on that site as well'. Ruby thought seeing this 'four days and there is no info on anything else. I need to check the area, find the position, the meeting room and exact hour, or the way he would travel, but then there will be no impact on a Schnee bastard. Damn. Need also a place to sleep'.

Ruby approached a leader and asked " Can I stay inside the base for a couple of nights during the mission?"

"No. Your mission is too risky for you to stay with us brat. Find your own place. You will be able to go back to the high leader next week at the same time as now with the next transport".

Ruby did not comment on this and just left going in the direction of the city. During her way there she got ambushed by beowolves, but taking out the Scarlet Rose in assault mode chambered with standard 7,62mm rounds she managed to kill them all with one precise bullet and her semblance to get her in the right position to shoot. She then reloaded mentally noting to fill the magazine with spare bullets from the backpack, as half of the rounds insolide were gone.

One hour later Ruby found herself outside the Atlas walls. She wore her hood to hide the ears, took the mask off and strapped her weapon back to its place, Ruby used the semblance to bypass the defences while stopping on the nearest roof.

Taking a quick look around on busy streets and buildings, Ruby took out her map in order to find herself. She was in the factory part of the city, where most of the dust was refined, ammunition forged and other things created. Most of the workers here were faunus that were barely able to sustain themselves and families with the earnings made here. She then saw children begging on the street for money and further inside in a dark alley a drunk human beating a faunus child while saying that "animals should not be able to possess lien and it need to be given to their masters".

This made Ruby cook herself in anger as she unsheathed the Gentle Rose and wore the mask. Using the semblance, she moved behind the human and stabbed him through the heart, killing the bastard immediately. The blood flowed freely from the wound as he collapsed on the ground next to the kid. Ruby then remembered her first kill in the mine.

It was after one of the explosions, when she had the bad luck of collecting the remains again. One of the miners who lost his hands, eye sign and had wounds across his stomach was asking all the time "kill me please. Have mercy and kill me". She remembered how her hands placed themselves on his throat and squeezed so he would stop asking. His last words were "thank you". She cried and puked that night.

The child looked at her with fear and happiness. She nodded at him and he ran away leaving her at the scene. Ruby wiped her sword on the clothes belonging to the dead person, sheathed her sword and used semblance to travel back to the roof and onto a street a couple of alleys later.

It was at this moment that she realized that she just murdered a person in cold blood in the middle of the day to save a child. There were other options like knocking him down or just taking the child away, or simply leaving it alone. What she did felt right and wrong at the same time, but at least one scum was gone from remnant face.

Ruby focused back on her mission consisting of finding the hotel. After two hours of walking through the streets, she found it and checked the south wall. There was nothing special about it from the ground level. Looking around she spotted a problem. The hotel and restaurant 'the atlas finest' was way higher than any building in the vicinity of the south direction. Most of the roofs here were able to get her to see the five floors.

Ruby took the roof and checked the visible floors. All of them were corridors connected to an open bar, dancing hall, massive restaurant, and other things.

'Need to find a better position to check the floors above' Ruby though looking around. She spotted one about two kilometers away. It was a local police department building. 'Just my luck' she thought, making her way there.

Reaching it in fifteen minutes of walking, she saw that there was no way to climb it, even when using her semblance during the day as the police and drones were patrolling the area near this place. 'I will need to get here before sunrise and spend the whole day here in order to check the rooms without burning my position, before shooting and then retreat from it. It will be hard and long days, but shocking for the public when they will find out that the shoot was taken from the police department. Now I need a place to sleep. Preferably empty and cozy, so breaking into a huntress or hunter room, when they are away will do the job, but the risk is that they might come back during my stay and the aftermath might not be so gentle. There are also students with quarters outside the academy. They are required to sleep in their rooms with the team during the week, but weekends are free and they can come back home'. Lucky for her it was sunday and soon students will need to move back to the academy.

Three hours of searching for an apartment with a single person, or a team living inside, she managed to find one. She watched them slowly preparing to leave while talking. All of them were humans, so she didn't feel bad for planning to crash for a week in their residence. One hour later they left and she used Gentle Rose, aura and semblance to cut the lock in the door, making it easy to open them. What made her happier was that there was no security system installed on the door and the only one was on the windows for break-ins.

She then used one of the stools to block the door handle, destroyed the security system without causing an alarm and took a long bath, ate something from the fridge, set up an alarm to go before sunrise. It was a strange feeling to break in and live in somebody else's apartment. She was afraid of being caught, despite knowing that there will be no one for the next couple of days, excited for achieving her target, wrong for breaking the law and finally relieved in a temporary safe place for the night. Going to sleep, Ruby hopes that everything will go according to the plan.

Next day, when the alarm rang, Ruby turned it off and took a look outside. It was dark with a couple of lights on the streets being on. Through her eyes she saw everything in darkness and decided it was time to go. Ruby packed her things and food supply for her day of camping on the roof, as she needed to find these private rooms on the hotel wall. Opening the window was not a problem and it let her go back here the next night.

Leaving the apartment, traveling throught the roofs and climbing the roof was not a problem for her and getting to her destination was even easier than she imagined before. Ruby after getting on the roof placed her backpack on the ground, unsheathed the Gentle Rose and placed it next to her for emergency use in case of being found out. Then she removed the scope from her Scarlet Rose and waited for the sun to come up for a better view of the rooms.

Next four hours she spent waiting, examining rooms and checking distances. She saw that the higher the room was, the better it was in terms of luxuries and looks. The top even had its own fully stocked bar with an ice machine. Thinking she assumed that one of these rooms was a meeting point, since the second party was a Schnee, the richest family in the whole Atlas, or maybe in the world. The range to these rooms was about two thousand one hundred fifty meters with strong static wind. A pretty hard and for most people impossible shoot adding a 0.5cal bulletproof window. Good thing her baby had 0.67cal (17,02mm) bullet making it much more penetrative. Using her notepad, she noted the distance and correction for it. Then she checked the wind, but there was a high possibility of change, so she counted a couple of variations and noted them down. Now she had to wait for a nightfall, so she took the stolen sleeping bag from her backpack and lay in her place waiting and prepared in case of somebody finding her.

Next two days she spent observing the target house and noting any weak spots in case of her failure and target running away. It was a private mansion with guards all around the place, security cameras and alarms all over the place. Maybe she would be able to get here during the night and assassinate him. It would be a fast action and extraction, due to security going off the moment she were to break inside.

Before the sunrise of 15 march Ruby was preparing her Scarlet Rose to fire at the target on the roof of the police department. She mounted her scope and a wind meter at the end of the barrel to check the wind strength before shooting. It would take the bullet about 3 seconds to hit the target, confirm her hit and then she needed to evacuate while losing any possible pursuit. Ruby knew that her shoot would be hearable for a wide area, as she was in open on the highest local point. She took one last look of her target picture, before leaving it on the roof. Five hours later she saw one of the rooms light up.

Ruby lied down on the roof, wore her mask, leveled the rifle on that room and applied all of the corrections to scope. Three people entered inside. Two of them were adult males and the last was a girl in white little higher and older than her. Ruby zoomed in and confirmed that people in that room were Jacques Schnee and Gregory Grey. The third person sat on the sofa behind the Schnee and she concluded that it might be his daughter.

Waiting for them to sit and start the meeting, Ruby checked again the wind and found no changes to apply. After they all took their places, Ruby aimed at the head and shot. A loud bang came out and she watched the bullet going to the target. Two seconds later it broke through the armored glass and blew up the head of Gregory Grey causing panic inside the room and Jacques to hide behind the wall outside her view and for his daughter to freeze with shock and vomit on the floor as pieces of his brain landed on her.

Ruby transformed her sniper into a travel mode and strapped it to her back. Wore her backpack while picking up a mass of footsteps on the stairs going to the roof. She then used her semblance, while leaving some rose petals on top going down the roof by the walls evading cameras into the streets of Atlas and materializing here she started walking though the factory part of the city with the mask getting hidden inside the backpack.

Later Ruby could be found on one of the roofs in the factory part of the city watching the news on her scroll.

"Urgent news. Gregory Grey murdered inside the famous restaurant and hotel 'The Atlas Finest'. He was shot to death during a meeting with Jacques Schnee and his daughter Weiss Schnee. We can see that the bulletproof window was broken and there are many reports of a loud gunshot coming out from the Southern Police Department of Atlas. The SPDA does not comment on this, only telling that an investigation is ongoing. Was that an accident, or planned execution? Was Gregory Grey the target, or the richest person alive, owner of famous and at the same time infamous company Jacques Schnee? Maybe it was his daughter? Was that a way to threaten him? Ruby shut down her scroll and waited. She had nothing to do for the next two days for her transport and no place to stay. She would have to break in some kind of factory for this and tomorrow night and did not want to risk going through the city, as there was a high possibility of getting caught on camera during her leave, or a random search getting interested in her arm and gun. While the huntress could talk it out, she was too young to be one and did not have a record of going to school or academy.

Next day she found an old human woman helping out a faunus child in an alley, by giving him prepared hot soup in a plastic box. She observed them for any sign of suspicious activity, but she found nothing and found herself to listen into her story. Ruby learned that she lost her kids in the mountain Glenn incident, which was due to a company experimenting and catching Grimm alive. After a while she left the child happy and not hungry anymore.

Ruby, from lack of things to do, decided to follow her home and make sure she arrived safe and sound. She went through the roofs, while checking out the area and watching the old woman carefully. Nothing happened during the walk and she relaxed, when the old woman reached home. Ruby took a piece of paper and wrote on it 'your action today warmed my heart in this cold place - RR'. She placed one hundred lien on top of the paper and Ruby took down from the roof onto the street. She placed it on the welcome carpet, rang a bell and retreated into the street. The woman opened the door, looked left and right. Finding no one she looked down, picked it up and smiled saying "thank you RR", before closing the doors. She spent that night inside the factory.

Next morning Ruby woke up before the opening and escaped. She went outside the Atlas and back to the landing pad, where she waited for it to land in a couple of hours. Opening the scroll, she selected the news and started watching the ones after the first one.

"The SPDA confirmed that the target was Gregory Grey, through the picture that was found on the roof of their headquarters. How the assassin managed to get on the roof and leave it without anybody noticing is still unknown. There were also some red rose petals found created by aura that dissipated, when police arrived and secured the roof. The rumors are that it was one of the officers that took the shot and the rest are protecting him. The bullet examination shows the gun used in murder was not following the standard pattern, which shows that the shooter is a highly skilled individual with his own weapon. Possible rogue hunter, or assassin is causing mayhem outside of law. Who is next on his list? Will he strike again? Stay tuned for more news at eight. This is your Atlas news. See you soon"

She then launched the next video "the murderer of Gregory Grey still not found and police are asking for help in getting a suspect. They confirmed the caliber used in murder was seventeen point zero two millimeters, which managed to break through the bulletproof windows with bullet resistance able to hold ten rounds from famous zero point fifty cal weapons. The perfect shoot taken with these bullets from more than two kilometers away and strong wind shows for a highly trained individual. If you have any suspicions, please tell them to SPDA, as the chief woved to get the criminal personally for shaming him, the whole police of Atlas and the kingdom. She turned it off seeing there was no more news and relaxed on a tree branch with her Scarlet Rose lying on her knee in assault mode.

She heard the engines of offroads types of cars incoming and prepared herself for safety measures, but they were most likely a white fang members coming to pick up their incoming supply transfer. Ten minutes later she saw them through scope and relaxed as they were hers. She took off her hood and wore the mask so they wouldn't shoot her the moment they spotted her. They settled down under her and prepared vehicles. She spotted the leader sitting calmly on the back of the trunk. They were all relaxed and waiting for their arrival in thirty minutes. Ruby decided to wait until the bullhead was about to land to drop in and get inside.

Forty minutes later it arrived and proceeded to land. After the touchdown, the ramp opened and she dropped onto it from a nearby tree, surprising everyone.

"So you finally showed up. Took you long enough to reach this place. You are lucky that bullhead got delayed by weather" it was the local leader.

"I hope your ass doesn't hurt from twenty minutes of sitting on the back of a trunk as gaping at that cow faunus" she answered, while pointing gently at the now red faced faunus.

"How!?" He yelled at her.

"I was there long before you, but none of you decided to look up for even a moment" Ruby calmly answered and entered the bullhead.

After unloading, the pilot started the engines and lifted the bullhead on the way home. She could not wait to see the high leader.
