Index grabbed a guitar and began singing the Index song. Mikoto Misaka, Kuroko Shirai, Ruiko Saten, and Kazari Uiharu played along, which they sang their own lyrics for the song. After the song, Index tossed the guitar aside and stood up. It looked like he was getting ready to leave the room, so Mikoto Misaka tried to steer the conversation back to the cars. It was becoming very clear to all four students that Index was turning out to be not so mighty after all.
"So, anyway, the other day, these cars showed up out of nowhere. And, it caused me a great deal of suspicion… And he's walking out of the room. I don't get this." Mikoto Misaka said angrily. "This guy sits here on his butt, all alone, clearly doesn't leave the house. He talks a good game, but, he doesn't care about anyone but himself."
"Sounds a lot like you." Kuroko Shirai said quietly.
"Oh good. Thank you for your opinion, Kuroko Shirai." Said Mikoto Misaka. But he realized that Kuroko Shirai was probably right. Mikoto Misaka got up from the sofa, and went after Index as Kazari Uiharu followed him.
The two students found the older girl staring through a pair of binoculars at Academy City way below them.
"Hello, Index." They said as he approached the big girl. "What are you doing?"
"I am girl watching." Index replied as he lowered the binoculars and pushed Mikoto Misaka and Kazari Uiharu in front to let them see for themselves what he was watching. "Take a peek."
Mikoto Misaka and Kazari Uiharu stuck each of their one eyes so they can share a binocular, and saw Shirley, taking a mud bath.
"Yuck, you're disgusting!" Kazari Uiharu gagged.
"Oh yeah." Index smiled.
Mikoto Misaka looked away from the binoculars, and asked. "Look. Are you gonna help us or not?"
"I am helping you!"
"No. This is you helping. Looking through binoculars. Spying on old ladies…" Red looked down at Academy City with binoculars. He couldn't help notice a massive tent in the middle of Academy City. "Whoa, whoa. What is that?"
Out of curiosity, Kazari Uiharu pushed Mikoto Misaka aside to give her space, so she can see it herself. "Let me see!"
When the two students can see through the binoculars, dozens of cars were running in out of the tent. Other cars were handing out what looked like party to all students, and some were zipping around Academy City in their strange vehicles. When they looked closer, Red and Kazari Uiharu saw that the cars were stacking boxes of TNT all around the city. This confirmed something Red had suspected all along: the cars were up to something, and it definitely wasn't good.
"I was right. I was right." Said Mikoto Misaka, concern in his voice. "I knew it! Ruiko Saten, Kuroko Shirai, hurry up! Get out here!"
Index looked through the binoculars at the tent and all the cars and knew something bad was happening. "Uh-oh."
"Index, hey. Fly us down there, now." Mikoto Misaka pleaded.
"No." said Index softly.
"I'm sorry. What?" asked Mikoto Misaka and Kazari Uiharu, both were shocked.
"I don't do that anymore." Said Index sadly. "I'm retired. Mostly just tired. Go handle it yourself. This is everything I've prepared you for."
Both Mikoto Misaka and Kazari Uiharu could not believe it. Index was abandoning them. "What? Prepared us for?" They said in unison.
Then, Mikoto Misaka was starting to get irritated. "Hold on. Did I missed something? Let me just go through my notes really quick. Let's see. Crazy stuff, bragging, crazy stuff, karaoke. No. See, I don't see anything useful here." Coincidentally, Kuroko Shirai and Ruiko Saten came out of the cave with Index's merchandises, making Kazari Uiharu crossed her arms and glared at them.
"The whole world, everyone we know, is in danger." Mikoto Misaka continued.
"Yes, it is." Replied Index. "So, off you go."
Mikoto Misaka was fuming. "Hey. You know what? I used to believe in you. When I was a kid, I believed nothing really bad could ever happen because you were here. And now I see the fate of the world hangs on idiots like me. And that, sir, is sort of terrifying."
"I'd never found you an idiot." Kazari Uiharu interrupted, making Mikoto Misaka speechless and blushed.
"It's time for you to go." Said Index.
"You know, it's really upsetting to me that you're the only girl that can fly. And you're too afraid to do it. And I think you're not the only girl that can fly." Mikoto Misaka said, making both Mighty and Kazari Uiharu confuse, but Kazari Uiharu quickly realized that Mikoto Misaka was referring to her, which it made her blush a little. Then, Mikoto Misaka turned to Kuroko Shirai and Ruiko Saten. "Hey, guys. Come on, let's go. We're done here. He's no hero."
When his friends left first, Kuroko Shirai stayed as he told Index. "So, uh, I'm having a party next Tuesday. Could you just do a little pop in?"
Ruiko Saten carried Kuroko Shirai as they, Mikoto Misaka, and Kazari Uiharu made their way back down the mountain.
They ran down the mountain as fast as they could. As they neared the bottom of the mountain, Ruiko Saten tripped on a branch and tumbled into Mikoto Misaka. Then, Mikoto Misaka lost his balance and tumbled into Kuroko Shirai. Then, Kuroko Shirai tumbled into Kazari Uiharu. All four began bouncing and rolling down the mountainside in a big ball, until they finally landed with a crash on the ground.
The four friends untangled themselves and dusted one another off. They looked around Academy City. All the students on the island were partying underneath the big tent the cars had put up while they were away.
Mikoto Misaka, Kuroko Shirai, Ruiko Saten, and Kazari Uiharu finally made their way through the city where they discovered something awful. The cars were stealing presents from one of the nests next to a city hut. Everywhere they turned, they saw cars stealing presents from every home in the city.
"They're taking the presents!" Kuroko Shirai yelled.
"Follow them." Mikoto Misaka ordered.
As they ran after the cars, the four students watched the cars destroyed their city while taking the presents.
"Right on time. presents-cellent." Leonard laughed maniacally as he rode off on an umbrella, and zipped towards the ship.
"Kuroko Shirai, Kazari Uiharu, go shut that party down, now!" Mikoto Misaka commanded Kuroko Shirai and Kazari Uiharu.
"Me? But I only know how to get party started." Kuroko Shirai said as he grabbed two maracas, and shook them.
"Yeah, I'm a party planner." Kazari Uiharu added.
"GO!" Mikoto Misaka shouted.
"But how can I go faster?" Kazari Uiharu asked. Mikoto Misaka grabbed a vine, and tied it around her. "What am I? A kite?" Kuroko Shirai quickly grabbed the other end of the vine, which answered Kazari Uiharu's question. "Okay, I'm a kite."
"We're on it!" said Kuroko Shirai as he took off at super-fast speed, while dragging Kazari Uiharu with him. Kazari Uiharu spread her wings to help her glide, like a kite.
Kuroko Shirai and Kazari Uiharu sped into the party tent and tried to get the students' attention. They were so busy dancing and laughing, not a single girl had heard any of the explosions. Kuroko Shirai raced to the stage as he put Kazari Uiharu down in desperation, and the two jumped up and down.
"Can everybody please stop partying?! There are presents being stolen!" They shouted in unison. Then, Kuroko Shirai spotted Hors d'oeuvres, which he excitingly wanted to get them, but Kazari Uiharu slapped him on the back to snapped him out, and the two split up to warn each girl.
Kuroko Shirai spotted Toma Kamijo, and ran up to her. "Toma Kamijo, we need your help. The cars are stealing our presents!"
"What?!" Toma Kamijo cried.
"I'm airborne!" Accelerator laughed when his body was full of air.
Then, Kazari Uiharu ran to him. "We have to get back to the city!"
Finally, the music was turned off, and Kuroko Shirai and Kazari Uiharu told the crowd of students about the cars' plot.
"Stop dancing and start running!" They yelled as they ran.
While running, Kuroko Shirai accidentally dropped his food. "Hors d'oeuvres, my weakness." He cried as he grabbed his food to his mouth, and proceeded running
