CHAPTER 18

Next day Ruby found herself wandering through the docking area looking for an easy job, such as lifting and moving crates from shipments, or other things.

Asking some of the workers, Ruby managed to find the person responsible for volunteering workers.

"Hello, I am looking for a small one day job here for some lien, also my aura is unlocked and I am capable of using it. Is there anything available?" Ruby greeted and asked the person inside a small office in one of the open warehouse buildings.

"First off. We are not responsible for any injuries you receive during, before or after work. Second, any thievery, or destruction will lead to the lawful persecution. Third, you cannot sabotage, or slow down others work, if you do you will not get paid and you will be forbidden from working here. Four. Don't take the size three or more crates as shown on this picture here, you will not get paid for them, unless the worker asks for your help, then you will be paid accordingly for it. Five and last. Size one, also known as small size crates goes for one lien per crate, size two goes for two lien. You need to move the crates from the ship, or container to the unloading area, which is the building or spot near the blue line around. Any questions?" The manager looked at her, before continuing "Now the closests shipments are tomorrow at ten, and day after tomorrow between fourteen and fifteen. Dock two and dock six respectively. For more you need to check regularly on the list at the board next to my office. One of the workers will be writing down the crates at the entrance of the unloading area, which will be later used as proof for payment. Now go home kid, there is nothing to do here now for you."

Ruby nodded her head and left, heading back to the hotel, where she started her usual workout, reading, watching, weapon maintenance regime that she started during her self isolation, leaving only for dinner and breakfast the next day.

After breakfast, where she usually meets up with Roman, Ruby decided to tell him that she already found something and thanked him, before leaving for the docks.

At dock two, she had to wait half an hour, before the delayed ship arrived, so she could board it with other volunteers, which were mostly Faunus, or muscled people and workers in order to start moving crates. Using her aura she managed to lift and transport easily size one, the small ones, but the medium sized crates were more difficult, due to weight and size. The work was also taxing on her aura, so she had to take about fifteen to twenty minutes break every five to six medium crates, or eight small ones. The other volunteers either worked alone or in pairs, but later they would need to share money for crates.

After unloading the ship she heard a call "All of the volunteers come here for your payment" and followed the voice. She was third in line, so she had to wait a while before reaching the desk and hearing.

"Ok young girl, you managed to transport thirteen size one crates and twenty four size two crates, so in total you earned sixty one lien. Here's your payment and good luck becoming a huntress, if you want to."

"Thank you" Ruby said, taking the money into one of her hidden pockets and leaving the docks to go back to the hotel and take a shower, before eating dinner and sleeping. The work took her five and half an hour, causing the clock to hit seventeen when Rose exited the bathroom.

Next day Ruby woke up, ate breakfast and thought 'Should I go to the docks and earn some more money, stay in the hotel, or finally leave Vale, since I have enough for the way home? It felt good to earn money from working hard and one more day won't do any harm, also it still hasn't been two weeks so I should not leave yet. Gonna watch some TV, before leaving for the docks'.

Turning on TV she heard a news channel saying "...was brutally murdered by white fang assassin in middle of the day inside his own home. After being tortured and brutally executed victim body parts were thrown outside the window, where family of five, husband, wife, two daughters in age of seven and nine alongside their brother aged twelve witnessed these body parts landing in front of them on their walk. Family is under the psychiatrist's attention. The suspect was caught on one of the cameras, but we are unable to identify him. Police posted a bounty on him of information in between one hundred to two thousand lien and captured dead or alive for five and ten thousand lien accordingly. Here is the fragment of the camera feed showing him. Please contact the local police force if you have any information. This is Vale News and thank you for.your attention". Ruby recognized the man in the video as Adam Taurus, local white fang leader and frowned muttering "is this idiot trying to cause war or something? Throwing body on the street in front of the human family in middle of the fucking day? Better to keep watch on him".

Ruby decided to eat dinner earlier, before leaving for dock six in order to earn some more lien. On the way there she observed humans looking suspicious at any adult Faunus, some afraid and few even with hatred, which was much more absent day before.

'If he wants to get humans to respect us with fear, then this approach isn't working' Ruby thought sadly, before continuing her way to the docks.

Luckily the ship arrived earlier, so she would be able to go back faster, so without any delay, Ruby started unloading the ship, while also taking note of a couple of guards protecting a couple of crates from being approached by volunteers, so she ignored them and kept working.

About three hours later during her break, after most of the ship's cargo, alongside the protected crates there was a small explosion from one of the walls throwing the people and guards into a high alert and panic. From the smoke emerged Roman Torchwick with some black uniformed guys behind him and a scream sounded from one of the guards that was skewered by the Neo blade through his heart.

"Welcome everyone, I just came to pick up some of my packages. If you stay calm and let me do my things, you will be unharmed, except that one guard… Neo, I told you that I don't like wetwork, if there is a way to avoid it. It brings bad name and shame to any thieves and master thieves alike…" After the speech Roman sighed and made a hand gesture to let his men inside.

Ruby after a moment decided to teach Neo a lesson for useless killing, so she reached for her back with left hand and using semblance moved fast near the Torchwick and struck his head with the right one immediately knocking him unconscious to the floor to the shock of the rest of the people. After that Ruby turned to Neo and without a word, but just the look of her eyes, she challenged Neopolitan to a fight.

Neo charged at her, but meet the bullet from Ruby rifle, causing her to shatter and appear about two meters to the right of her semblance vision, causing Ruby to use her power to move near her and with side of her barrel that received recently upgrade of small elongated four sharp blades painting every direction, making the weapon into makeshift spear like weapon, struck her side throwing her two meters to the side with part of the aura depleted. Ruby did not stop here and using her semblance again, she moved next to her enemy and kicked her hard with aura enchanted strength not letting her opponent recover. Taking a small look, Ruby saw that the guards were slowly defeating the black uniforms, before going back and thrusting with her rifle to Neo, who was almost standing now, throwing her at the wall with depleted aura. Ruby got closer to her and squeezed her right hand at her throat, watching out for the amount of force, in order to not damage something, or to kill her, before putting her head right next to her ear and saying, while using her left hand to remove Neo wallet from pocket and hiding it inside her clothes.

"If I ever see, hear or get proof of you and your partner killing somebody innocent, and it doesn't matter if that person was a guard, officer, huntsman that was fighting you, I will kill either you or Roman. If he kills, you are dead. If you kill, he is dead. Do you understand?" With the last words she squeezed a little harder, letting the cold metal fall into her throat more strongly, Ruby saw the fear in Neo eyes as she nodded slightly while having difficulty with breathing.

"Now you will act, as if you lost your consciousness and I will let you go. Use that semblance of yours to take Roman out of there, but remember that you owe me and my warning".

Ruby, seeing the Neo act of falling limp, let her go watching as she was supposedly unconscious from sliding down the wall, before turning her back and heading to the office with the dropped notepad containing the amount of crates she moved. On the way there she heard the sound of glass breaking and loud curses, but ignored them in favour of getting out of Vale, though she would need to buy a ticket somewhere else, most likely Vacuo, in order to lose any pursuit.

Inside the office a man was looking nervous, as she gave him the notepad and said.

"I am finishing for today, the thieves' attack was enough. Just pay me up and I will leave, as I don't want the police to take my time and worry my family, if they hear that I am here. I need that money to buy a gift for my father's birthday".

The office worker took a look at the notepad and said "here one hundred lien, as it would be close to the amount that you would have received at the end of the job. Normally it would be around forty, but take it as a bonus, as it was not your fault that attack happened. Now go home, before the police arrive, take the road to the left, it will evade any police officer, as they are much closer from the right and middle road. Have a nice day and good luck."

Ruby smiled and with the nod of her head left and used the direction given to her by the manager and left the docks and went to the hotel to pick up her things.

Back at the hotel, Ruby went to the elevator and heard a familiar voice calling "Can you hold the elevator for a moment? I'm in a real hurry". Ruby feeling mischievous, put her arm in the doors and waited next to the wall and watched as Roman and Neo entered, before looking at her and silence took for a moment as they all stared at each other, before Torchwick saying "Well this is awkward. You beat us up and now you hold for us an elevator… Again. I don't know if I should be feeling angry, or proud that there are gentlemans still around the world, even if they are used to breaking the law."

"Well I think you should be rather happy, that I am a lawbreaking assassin from the white fang that takes out the trash of our world and not the law officer or part of the military".

Roman became a little pale hearing this, but shook his head a little before smiling and saying "damn I never expected a small girl like you to be that dangerous. Take care red".

As the elevator opened the doors, they all left and went to their rooms. Ruby checked the wallet she had stolen from Neo and found inside three thousand lien and smiled, before removing cash from it and hiding it in her bag. She had enough money for all the travels.

After packing her things, Ruby took all her things with her, left the room and threw Neo's empty wallet under Torchwick and her room, before taking the elevator down and checking out of the hotel. After that Rose went to the nearest and only airport by foot and bought a ticket to the Vacuo flight that would start in an hour and half, only to arrive there at three in the morning. Ruby waited at the airport, sitting at the comfy bench, before the entrance of the landing pad for an hour, before the craft arrived that was able to take her out of the Vale.

There she flew without any problems to the Vacuo and immediately bought a ticket to Anima continent, to one of the villages, that would allow her to reach the white fang castle in a day, or two. She found a flight leaving at eight in the morning and arriving at her destination just after midnight with two days on foot to the castle, but decided to take it anyway.

Ruby decided to go to the closest hotel and book one night there, paying around twenty lien and sleeping just to seven in the morning and going to the airport for her flight back home.
