DxD: Gamer Story
Chapter 1
It was dark.
That was the first thought that I had when I woke up. Though woke up is probably not the right phrase for my predicament, gained awareness would probably be more accurate.
I know that I am a soul that currently exists in an empty void, and I know that that is usually not the case, but I don't remember ever existing anywhere else.
I have knowledge of things that I also know I have never experienced before, normal things that are common knowledge but also things that I am sure is no common knowledge at all.
Things like the existence of the supernatural, of Angels, Fallen and Devils, but also of Yokai and various other creatures and gods.
Of how there are many different versions of these worlds and also versions where these worlds only exist as fiction and fanfiction. That what may be fiction in one world may be real in another. Something that others can only guess and theorize at, while I know that to be the truth.
As I was continuing to analyze my existence, she suddenly appeared before me.
She was a female being of slightly above average height and an hourglass figure with a moderately sized bust and fair skin tone. Her hair was free flowing and went down to her hips with soft curves and an ethereal silver appearance. Flawless skin let to soft rose lips, to a cute button nose and finally to the woman's most stunning features of all.
Eyes that shone with an internal glow of power that lit the crimson irises up and made them shine and shimmer like cut and polished Ruby's that seemed to be able to stare right into your soul with an unimaginable amount of power and authority while somehow also managing to be able to hold so much warmth and gentleness that it radiated caring perhaps even love.
The image of the woman was completed by the eight pairs of black leathery, and with gold accented, bat like wings that sprouted from the woman's back that also seemed to constantly shift slightly to silver feathered wings with a golden shimmer and back to the black leathered ones.
Together the appearance of the woman radiated such a sense of royalty that you instinctively knew that this woman stood so far above you that it was laughable.
The sheer presence of this woman was so enormous that the armored clothes she wore fell completely to the wayside of the perception of the being.
I knew instantly that this being, this Devil, was the reason for why I existed and that no matter what strengths I may reach, she would always be above them. I also instinctively knew that she did not wish me any harm, which left me in a relaxed state of awe at the being in front of me.
Seeing this, the woman chuckled slightly and her voice rung out like a clear bell and I knew that for me, her voice would always be the most beautiful sound in existence.
„Hello dear soul, I see that you know that I am the reason for your existence, but let me enlighten you as to the why.
I am Lucina Lucifer Morningstar, daughter and direct heir of the Morningstar, The Devil, The first Pureblood and many other titles that are to bothersome to list up. One of these titles is that of 'The Observer'. I travel to other dimensions but are unable to interact with them, as I am but an observer in them. In most of the Universes I do in-fact not even exist. I only exist in the alternates of my own universe, and they are the only ones that I can affect as a consequence. Though I have admittedly ditched in most of these universes the earth and have fun in the galaxy. It is one such universe in which you will be placed and granted a unique version of the 'Gamer' Powers.
I gained the Idea while visiting the different universes and from time to time encountering ones where some people seem to have gamer powers and I wanted to see one of my own design. This Gamer power will also incorporate the design of a unique race that I have designed over the years.
The rest you will have to find out for yourself, but you will know the basics and, when I feel like it, you will also have an idea of what might be happening in the near future, plot-wise. But only if I feel like it!
But ultimately there is one task that you have, and that is to life, your life, the way you want. Enjoy your life!
Oh, and in case you were wondering, everything is looked over and approved by Big G himself, so no worry's on that front.
So now go on and enjoy your life!"
And with that the woman, Lucina, was gone and seconds later appeared a rose colored screen in front of me that I knew to be the Gamer Power.
[{ Hello Gamer!
I am the Gamer System created by Lucina Lucifer Morningstar, Firstborn of Lucifer Morningstar and favored by Time, God and the Cosmos. But you may simply call me the System.
First let's have you know who you are.}

Next to my Stats was a figure, showing how I looked. I was a tall nineteen year old girl/woman with fair skin, a voluptuous body, waist long curly blond hair that faded to orange with several red strands threaded throughout, a face with aristocratic features and eyes that seemed to shimmer between orange and red like a fire.
The Model showed me in a tight black tank top over which I wore a half closed red jacket that had on it's left sleeve black stitchings of a rose. Furthermore I wore light red, skintight trousers that had on the left leg black stitchings of a rose as well. Over the trousers was a deep purple, gold studded belt and in place of the clasp was a golden rose. The shoes I wore were knee high high heels in a deep red color with black lacing.
So that was what I looked like.
[{ Now you know what you are going to look like and you have had a purview of your stats, what each means is knowledge you have already been previously given. Be aware however, that at some points in time there may be random special events in the system that may give rewards that come never again, these will be mainly what ever, and whenever, Lucina feels like it. Furthermore you will own a small house at the border of Kuoh Town, directly next to a forest. There you will wake up.}]
And with that the dark was temporarily replaced with a blindingly bright light that immediately afterwardsreceded and left me blinking the spots out of my eyes. With that I awoke on a sizable bed with red covers and light red bedsheets in a medium sized room that was decorated with various shades of red, gold and orange.
Slowly I sat up, filled with wonder at the sensation of feeling my body with a clarity that I knew not to be normal for a human body. This clarity gave me an insight into my body that let me instantly know the state of my body and what needed to be trained in order to be in top form and where any potential problems may lay or arise.
Upon this realization a pop-up appeared in front of me again.
[ Skills:
Gamers Body (Altered) (Passive):
A Gamers Body allows you to live your life like a video game while ensuring that, unless stated otherwise, no injury will be permanent. This version is altered however. While sleeping in a bed for five hours will still fill your HP, MP and SP back up, extensive injury's will temporarily alter your max HP for the duration they take to heal. This feature can be negated by the regeneration of your race, once you have ascended at least once. The stronger the regeneration, the weaker the debuff.
Gamers Mind (Altered) (Passive):
A Gamers Mind calms your mind and makes you immune to mental debuffs. This version is altered however. While it still calms your mind, your mind is however not that of a human and as such has greater capability's and an entirely different structure than a humans, allowing you, due to your races natural Telepathy, to have two 'mind channel's'. A public one and a private one. Attempts of mind reading will automatically be directed to the public 'channel'. ]
That certainly explained that.
It was the Fireangel physiology that made it so easy to purview my own body like that. In the back of my mind I also noted a steady trickle of information and understanding of my races basic ability's and affinities and the culture that developed out of that.
Following that reveal I looked around the bedroom spotting a dresser, a wardrobe/closet, a vanity, a desk with a computer, a roll chair and a window, while on the ground was a wide carpet. Taking the sight in, I acknowledged that this is my new room. This is where I will be sleeping and living for the foreseeable future, perhaps even for most of my life, but definitely for the time to come.
Standing up I decide to explore the rest of my new house, my new home, as well.
Stepping out of my room I see that I am in a small hallway with several doors. The hallway is in a neutral beige, while each of the doors is in a different color, with the one to my bedroom being a nice warm red with golden accents and the one in front of me a creamy white with golden accents as well.
Opening the door in front of me leads to a bath with a color theme that matches the door, which I quickly notice is the same for each room. Otherwise there are two more doors before the stairs that lead downwards. One door lead to a small office that was colored in a soothing pale yellow with soft orange accents, which was reflected on the door, and the other door lead to a small bedroom that appeared to be a guest room that was done in a soft baby blue that was varied with a bit of white and other, darker, blues which was, again, reflected in the door to the room.
Going downstairs I am greeted with a relatively open design regarding the ground floor of the house. In front of me was an open living room with lively earthen colors of orange and brown with a bit of soft yellow sprinkled in, which held a soft brown couch, an armchair, a loveseat, a living room table and a big TV screen where also a few consoles were located. One area next to the stairs was a bit shielded through a partial wall that obscured the view from the front door.
Across from the stairs was the wall facing the garden which held a rather large window front that left a magnificent view on the garden that seemed quite big as well. On the right side of the room was a blue-grey door to a kitchen with a table and chairs, which was held in white and soft blue-grey tones, while the other door, which was a soft shade of brown, led to a fully stocked pantry. On the kitchen table were a few stacks of documents which prove that I actually exist in this world, things like a birth certificate, school certificates, an ID, a driver's license, a deed for the property I now own and a few other legal documents and other documents that validate my existence and can prove helpful if needed.
After I shifted through those and quickly took them up into my new office I looked towards the left wall, where a green door waited for me. Behind the door was a small Library, that also held a study, in a room of green tones that, while small, was still something to be proud of for a small house. Finally behind the stairs leading upwards was another set of stairs which led to the basement, which was kept in white, grey and black tones, which had a store room and otherwise plenty of space for crafting, painting or other hobbies.
At the back of the basement stairs however, I could feel a small magical rift which, upon investigation, lead to another set of stairs which led into a second basement, this one done in a dove-grey and pale lavender, that was significantly bigger than it theoretically should be, according to physics. It was an extended space which I could use for all things magical making this second basement basically my magical workshop without having to do it in the more open portions of the house, which had windows through which I could be observed, theoretically. Looking around this place a bit more I found, to my delight, a second Library, this one for all things magical.
This place was absolutely amazing and everything I could want out of a home and I couldn't contain my excitement anymore and did a jump with glee while barely holding back a squeal of joy at this place.
Pulling my self back together I composed myself again and went back to the kitchen, which was with a growl from my stomach confirmed to be a good idea.
There I however ran into another problem.
Lucina had apparently seen it fit to only give me the bare bones of the knowledge of how to cook.
I found several cookbooks however, which gave me the sneaking suspicion that I was supposed to learn on my own. A pop up from the System confirmed that.
[{You guessed correctly! Here take a point for your WIS stat. + 1 WIS }]
Reading that pop up I was slightly unsure wether I should think of it as annoying or simply take it in strife as something useful, but ultimately I decided that I should think of it as positive reinforcement that actually thinking about something is useful and that it keeps you mentally fit. The System seemed to appreciated that.
[{Aww, thanks. Usually when something like this comes up the Gamer sees it as annoying and mocking and not the gift and encouragement that it ultimately is. As a thank you take another point. + 1 CHA }]
Huh. It raised my Charisma. Apparently being understanding and seeing the deeper meaning raises my Charisma, while making deductions and coming to conclusions on my own seems to raise my Wisdom, which leaves Intelligence which I would guess is raised by studying.
[{And that is another true deduction! + 1 WIS }]
Okay, good to know.
But I was nevertheless starting to get hungry and as such, I used my minimal knowledge to make me a cup of instant noodles. With my hunger sated I still decided to at least practice cooking a bit more so that I would at least be able to live off of something else than preprepared food.
While I did that I also decided to check out my new Inventory and what effects it would have.
'Inventory'
And with that the Inventory opened up before me. It seemed to be a rather infinite place, but since it was empty I couldn't really tell. Each slot showed itself as a rose tinted square and there were several categories according to which the things seemed to sort themselves. There was a tab for clothes, for weapons, for books, for food and for other things as well. A small pop up informed me that everything that was placed into the inventory would be in stasis, which made the Inventory very versatile. One of the exceptions however was that living beings could not be placed into the Inventory.
Another interesting thing that I discovered about the Inventory is, that I can use it to be instantly dressed or undressed. I also found out that the attire that I was currently wearing is basically my default outfit, which I honestly don't mind since I do like red. Something that had occurred to me while I was pondering these discoveries, was that I had no problem walking in the High Heels that I was wearing. I could walk as if I had normal running shoes on and not shoes with 3 inch heels. In the end I simply decided to ignore that oddity as it ultimately didn't really matter.
With that inspection of the Gamer Powers complete I returned my focus to the food that I was making. It were just some very simple dishes like some simple mashed potatoes and some other simple stuff together with some basic sandwiches. I served all that I had made on some plates together with the silverware laid out and then stuffed the dishes into the Inventory for later use. While I did that I came to the conclusion that if I am going to continue doing that, that I am going to need new plates and silverware in large quantities, for which I would need money and that, after a quick glance at my Inventory, I only had around 500 dollars of finite money, and while it could last me a while for normal food and stuff, you could otherwise not do all to much with it before it runs out. Which means that I need a consistent money source and I don't think that a standard job would help me all that much, seeing as I am positive that I will need a lot of different stuff in the future, as well as time, which a normal job won't necessarily provide for me.
[New Quest: Money, Money, Money]
Money, an interchangeable resource that you only have a finite amount of. However are you gonna change that?
Goal: Find a way for you to have a stable income of money [ ]
Reward: 5000 EXP, + 1 random Stat Point, stable source of money
[Y/N]
Well, that certainly made it a challenge. Especially since I couldn't refuse the Quest, what with the 'No' option being grayed out. Though something that did relieve me a bit was that there was no time limit for this quest, since I usually preferred to avoid risks when possible, though I did have a certain impulsiveness that provided me with enough risks to keep life interesting.
But that money problem would be a problem for later, for now I wished to make sure that I am not defenseless. For that reason, I was going back to the second basement and the Library I had seen there to look through it in search of anything that would currently be useful for me.
It took several hours of leafing through the Underground Library but I found several things that will be important to get me started on surviving in this power wise insane world. I mean, the knowledge that Lucina had imparted to me had told me that in the next few years events would start that would lead to literally world threatening scenarios, and I really want to live through that and preferably have this world survive. But I don't actually know what will all be going on in the background that will lead to that, so I can't actually go out of my way to stop it… I really have no idea how I would go about trying to stop it from completely happening so I will just have to follow my gut and hope that I don't royally screw it up, all while hopefully being strong enough to stop it should it happen.
[New Quest: Stop the world from ending!]
You know the world is gonna end … way to soon! Stop it from happening.
Goal: Stop ?, ?, the end of the world [ ]
Reward: + 10 Levels, + 50 Stat Points, +2 Ascension Gems, + 1 World Access Gem, + 10.000.000 $
Failure: Death, 99% chance of the destruction of the world, severe disappointment
[Y/N]
Note: Even if the Quest is declined the events will still happen.
Because of this, the Quest can be put on hold until the events actually start.
Then you will either have to either accept or decline the Quest.
The note made me pause, along with being confused about the penalty of severe disappointment. So, with great care, I re-read the Quest. And was infinitely grateful that I didn't simply pick yes, because then the penalties of failure would be un-retractable, but currently should I fail, there is still a greater chance of those penalties not coming into reality. As such I decided that I was going to wait before I accept or decline the Quest, seeing as I can still do that when the time has come. Wether I accept or not is going to be dependent on the circumstances and how strong I will be. Seeing as how I am currently pretty weak, only about as strong as a human that regularly does some sport. Which really isn't that strong.
But back to what I found in the Library. There were several books that would be able to help me at what I assume is my current power level, but first and foremost I would need to figure out how to sense my magical energy and then how to direct that to do what I would need it to do.
And the way to go with that would be Meditation, though I do have an advantage with that, since I can sense and feel my body in a way that humans usually can't, while also having a more structured mind.
So I started with Meditation. Sitting somewhere vaguely comfortable, closing my eyes, regulating my breathing and focusing inwards.
It took a bit but I was eventually able to focus on the right plane of my body where the energies converged. Then, suddenly, I was able to feel it. I could feel the energy permeating my body, flowing through it, swamping everything it could reach with energy. I didn't notice it earlier since it was still pretty dormant, but with the sudden focus on it I could feel it waking up. Feeling like a fire that was roaring through my body and swamping everything with a warmth that made my mind ache with longing and made my heart jump. This were my flames, my fire. I could feel them, they were a part of me that could never be taken away, they made up my entire being and it felt absolutely wonderful to feel them, to feel my being, my power, my Fire.
With a start my eyes snapped open, blazing with my internal fire, the flames trailing around my entire being, before they finally centralized behind my back at about the height of my shoulders and crystalized themselves into a magnificent pair of red, feathered wings that resembled a burning fire, that burned long and bright, never ending. The feeling of the wings was amazing, as if I had found a part that I hadn't even know that I lost, something that completed me and made me feel whole. The only thing that was missing was a steady murmur in the back of my head that should welcome me into the ranks but wasn't there anymore and that made my head and heart ache with a distant sense of loneliness.
But aside from that it was the most wonderful feeling that I have ever felt. It felt like coming home.
A small, nearly inaudible, ping was what brought me back out of my reverie and pulled my attention back into the here and now. There in front of me was the System again.
[{You know, I didn't expect you to transcend without any help on how, or even what you are doing. I mean you didn't even properly investigate the ways of your race yet and you already transcended once. I didn't even get the chance to generate a corresponding Quest for that and you already finished it! So, since I am so impressed with your progress there (and I am not a meanie), here have the rewards anyway!}]
[New Quest: Fiery Ancestry]
You are a Fireangel, but yet you seem pretty human, nothing all that special. Oh, but you are, so find your Ancestry!
Goal: Transcend once [x]
Hidden Goal: Do so without any help at all [x]
Added extra hidden Goal: Do so before the Quest is generated [x]
Reward: Fireangel Guidebook, 500 EXP, Access to Racial Skills
Hidden Reward: + 1 INT, + 1 WIS, 1500 EXP
Added extra hidden Reward: + 2 LUCK, + 1 Ascension Gem
Failure: Remaining a Level 0 till you figure it out :(
[You gained 2000 EXP, + 1 INT, +1 WIS, + 2 LUCK, + 1 Ascension Gem, Fireangel Guidebook, Access to Racial Skills]
[You have leveled up 3x]
That Information dump left me briefly stunned, before I had to snicker at the sad smiley by the failure point. Yeah, that would be pretty sad if I failed that, when I could have even gotten help. But I didn't, I even managed it before I got the Quest in the first place. But that made me interested in what I had gotten as a reward for the Quest.

[Race: Fireangels are an extinct race that even during their prime was barely known, in part due to their elusive nature.
They have large red feathered wings that have an usual wingspan of around five times the individuals height. They are closely aligned with fire, heat and energy. The most defining feature of their race is their level system. You start at the Racial Level zero and once you have reached the adept level of the Racial Skills that you have gained at that level, you can level up through the use of a Level Ritual.]
Oh, that sounded interesting and it told me more about my race. But first let's see what the Racial Skills that I have access to are.
‚Racial Skills'
[Racial Skills Level: 1
Flight:
A pair of large red wings that have an impressive wingspan of around five times the individuals height. At Level 1 you can not yet retract them.
Max Speed: 25 m/s
Cost: 25 SP per min
Regeneration: Beginner:
1% HP per 5 seconds
Grip:
The ability to call small items into your hand with a gesture and mental command.
Max Range: 1 meter
Max Weight: 1 kg
Cost: 5-10 MP]
Huh. While it wasn't all that much, it wasn't really bad either, well except for the fact that I can't yet retract the wings. That was going to make going out a problem. Though if I read the subtext right, I should be able to retract them from Level 2 on. But otherwise I could see an impressive improvement, especially in the Regeneration department, MP and SP as well as HP. Though what irked me a bit were the stats, considering that I could actually feel the energy that was a part of me, I did not need it in stats, but I guess that it is to give me an overview in simple terms.
Now that I had examined that, I looked at what else I had gotten. One Ascension Gem and a Fireangel Guidebook. I examined both.
[Ascension Gem:
This Gem is a crystalized Level Ritual, that only has to be crushed in order to trigger the Ascension. WARNING: The Requirements have to be met before you crush the Gem, otherwise the Gem will be lost without having transcended the Level. Please Note that the only exception is between Level 13 and 14.]
[Fireangel Guidebook:
This is a Guidebook for the race Fireangel that describes the race, describes their power and their culture. This book was actually compiled by a Fireangel in years long past. This Guidebook has been granted to you since there are no Fireangels left to teach you their ways. You are the last of your race.]
[A new skill has been added: Observe]
[Observe: (Active)
This skill is a basic Gamer skill that has been created through the repeated action of studying an object. It gives you the description of the Item you are observing.
The amount of detail depends on your level of strength in comparison to what you are observing.]
And I gained a new skill from it. With that Information, I looked over my wings again and stretched them, unfolding them to their stunning diameter of around five times my height, so around nine meters. Bathing for a moment in the energy they radiated I realized with a start that I would have to somehow shield my property and myself, in order to avoid the devils or other factions to look into my sudden existence. I was a complete unknown to them after all.
An important factor to stay unnoticed would be to reach Level 2 so that I could retract the wings, but that won't be all, since I was now giving off non-human energy, which would be instantly detected by a supernatural being once they got into my proximity, unless I started to suppress my aura. But to be honest, I did not want to always have to hide my aura since alone the thought of that felt wrong. At the very least in my home I should be able to let it out. And since I didn't want it to be sensed I would have to ward my property.
With that goal in mind I continued researching with the materials available to me, meaning the pre-stocked library courtesy of Lucina. It, again, took several hours, during which I also had a quick lunch with the food that I had prepared.
When it was late afternoon, nearly evening, I had read all the books about warding my property that I had in the library and was reasonably sure that I had understood it all. With all the studying that I did I also gained two more stat points for my INT stat. The next thing was to actually do it.
And in order to do that I was going to have to set up several rune clusters all around my property in even spaces for a relatively stable ward scheme, even though it would only cover the basics since I was only a beginner with no prior training in the area and the books I had access to were only for beginners.
But it should still be enough to make the most basic barrier around my property, though I would have to get more books on the subject and hopefully soon.
With a sigh and a plan of action firmly in mind I stood up stretching slightly and then, folding my wings carefully behind my back, made my way back up the stairs. It was a rather tight fit since, even folded together as they were, my wings were enormous and the stairs up out of the basement weren't that spacious and, come to think of it, the hallway upstairs wasn't either. Though thankfully my bed was.
Now in my living room I let the blinds down, except on the side with the door to the garden, and did the same in the kitchen and library. In the library I moved to the study and let a bit of my energy flow into my outstretched hand while focusing on a few pieces of paper and commanding them to ‚come to me'. With the mental command done the pieces of paper shot into my hand and I could feel the slight drain on my magic. Doing the same with the pen I sat at the desk, while doing the mental calculations on my MP-Regeneration. I regenerate 2% every 10 seconds, making that 2.6 MP per 10 seconds, meaning that in one minute I regenerate 15.6 MP, so for 15 MP I need 60 seconds.
With that mental calculation done I focused on mapping out the rune cluster that I intended to use and roughly planning where they would be placed. I already knew that I wanted one of the stronger ones, with anchors in the corners to stabilize the whole ward scheme.
In the center of every rune cluster would be the algiz rune which would be coupled with a few others, like Eihwaz, Mannaz and Pertho. The main meaning would be protection coupled with strength/stability, augmentation/support and unknown.
Once I had the clusters arranged it was nearly dark outside and I ate a late dinner, after which I steeled myself, opened the door and stepped outside into my garden.
It was dark by now, and tough I doubted that I would be seen, I still tucked my wings close to my back to make them seem not there as much a possible. With that done I ventured outside to first map out the grounds of my property, so that I knew how much ground it covers, so that I knew how many rune clusters I would have to make, as well as the amount of space between them.
The Property was big, especially compared to the house. The garden was somewhere around six hundred square meters, with a small shed of to the side were a few gardening tools were stored, while the house covered only somewhere around a hundred square meters, though to be fair, quite a big chunk of the garden reaches into the forest, making it seem not that much and more appropriate for a house of that size. The cover that the trees provided was also appreciated. I took an hour to take all of it in and access it. Then I stood in the woods for a while, trying to work out where I needed to place the rune clusters and how big the spaces between them should be. Coming to a conclusion, I started going all around the garden placing the clusters, though not yet activating them and when I was done I stood and looked around. The main reason that I had not yet started to activate them, was that they each need to be fed with my energy, and I do not yet have much at my disposal, only a meagre 130 MP. I decided to power each single rune with the full 130 MP I had, which would mean that for each rune I need to regenerate for five hundred seconds, which are 8 minutes and 20 seconds. In each rune cluster are around four runes, which means that I need 520 MP for each cluster, meaning that I need 41 minutes and 20 seconds alone to regenerate the energy needed for a single cluster. I had placed 48 rune clusters around my property in equal distance to each other for the most stability of the wards, since it was still a ward done by someone who only had so many resources and did this for the first time. But this still means that I needed 24.960 MP. I didn't think that I would be able to get it completely done that evening/night. To get it all up and running I would need around 33 hours!
Okay, I didn't think this completely through. But it was still my best shot for protection and remaining undetected that I had at the moment.
This was going to be a project for the next few days.
