So this story has kinda been abandoned. My cowriter and I never got around to continuing it. Though we did write quite a bit of the story before we stopped, so I guess there's no harm in posting the remaining chapters to fanfic. Fair warning, these following chapters have NOT been edited at all, they haven't been beta read, or anything of the sort. If you want to read one of my modern stories with quality that I'm proud of, go check out my story "The Greatest Midoriya". Fwi, I'm using all the OCs that were originally intended for this story, over there, so if you like any of them, be sure to stop by and give it a read. :) Anyway, I wish you best and hope you find some enjoyment out of the ashes of this story. It might be rewritten it might not, we'll see.
Today was the day Kyo would take the UA entrance exams alongside Mao and Kumiko. From the moment Kyo stepped onto the campus he couldn't stop being amazed. The entire school building seemed to be made of… glass? There were four giant glass towers connected by glass bridges and they shone in the sunlight. Just the walkway leading into the structure seemed grand. It was bustling with people and looked like the widest sidewalk he'd ever seen. Wow, UA must have more money than I thought. Kyo knew from his light research that the campus of this school was actually much bigger than it appeared on the outside.
"Well, someone looks excited," Mao commented with a slight giggle. Kyo turned towards her, smiling exuberantly.
"This is gonna be so cool! What do you think it'll be like?" Kumiko placed a finger on her chin as if deep in thought. Finally she provided her piece.
"I'm sure it's amazing, IF you get in."
"I wonder what the teachers will be like, do you think we'll have actual pro heroes teaching us?
Isn't the entire staff of UA supposed to be pro heroes? What do you think, Mao?" Kyo's voice came out in an uncharacteristically high pitch and he began bouncing up and down the more he talked. Mao placed a single hand on his shoulder,
"First of all, you need to calm down. Second of all, I'd assume they have some normal teachers for the general education courses. Like seriously, who wants to sit at a school for 8 hours a day when you could be out saving people?" Mao said it as more of a statement than a question.
"I'm sure there's more to it," Kyo offered. "Anyway, how do you think they'll run the entrance exams?"
"Hmm, if I had to guess, they'll probably split us up for the exam," Kumiko stated thoughtfully.
"I don't know about that," Mao countered, "I don't see why specifically splitting us up would have any sort of effect on the outcome. Knowing what they've done in the past, it'll probably be a free for all." Kyo could see where Mao was coming from with that one, seeing as UA was trying to test their individual abilities, a free for all would definitely make sense.
Suddenly, a new voice was heard from behind them, "Well, in my professional opinion, seeing as UA is one of the most prestigious schools in Japan, I would say that predicting their entrance exams is next to impossible." Kyo, thinking nothing of it, responded promptly.
"I guess you're right about that. Wait a minute, who are you?" The trío came to a stop by the door and turned to meet the newcomer. It was a handsome silver haired boy who had deep blue eyes and a smirk smeared on his face. His attire consisted of workout clothes and a gray jacket that looked much too big for his skinny body.
"Oh yes, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Mínato Itsuki," Itsuki reached for Mao and Kumiko's hands. "It is a pleasure to meet you two fine ladies." Itsuki then grabbed Mao and Kumiko's hands and began pulling them towards his lips. Kyo saw as Mao's eyes widened with realization. Before Itsuki could resist she pulled her hand back voraciously and turned away from him.
"What on Earth do you think you're doing?" She questioned with a disapproving look towards Kumiko, who had actually let him finish the job. Itsuki let go and turned towards Mao,
"I'm offering my presence to you ladies, what else would I be doing?" He responded with a snarky voice. He turned his attention to Kyo with a smile. Kyo returned the gesture with as furious a glare as he could muster. "Is this your boyfriend?"
"Are you for real right now?" Kyo snapped, "they're my sisters!" A disappointed look appeared on Ituski's face as he shrugged.
"Oh well, I'll see you inside ladies." He waved them goodbye and went into the building. Kyo released a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding. That guy's a creep, how audacious to do that in front of her brother! Kyo turned his attention back to Mao and Kumiko to see Kumiko just staring at nothing. Her hand hadn't retracted from the position that Itsuki had kissed it in.
"Kumiko are you ok?" Kyo waved his hand in front of her. She seemed to snap out of whatever trance that guy had put her under.
"A guy just kissed me," Kumiko said in barely a whisper. Mao raised an eyebrow at this and added her own piece.
"It was a kiss on the hand, he didn't actually kiss you. Stop overreacting, you have to focus on the exams today."
"Right, sorry, I'll forget about it for now," Kumiko apologized.
"Ok, let's go get these exams over with," Kyo prompted as they all entered UA.
…
When Kyo and his sisters walked into the presentation hall he was immediately taken aback by the sheer amount of people in the relatively small room. There must've been over two hundred applicants there. Nonetheless they all fit nicely into the semi circle shaped room. As they took their seats Kyo noticed a woman wearing a yellow dress standing in the front. She had long mint colored hair, and piercing red eyes. What appeared to be her hero costume included two yellow gloves that came up to her elbows, and a long yellow dress with a side slit and a classic off the shoulder neckline. The most interesting and obvious thing about her appearance however were the ten massive yellow tentacles coming out of her neck extending all the way down to her heels. Wait a minute, was that the QUEEN IN YELLOW? The Queen in Yellow was well known to many people in their region and she had stopped numerous petty crimes in the past. Pretty much everyone back home who had any sort of interest in heroes knew who she was. The Queen in Yellow walked up to her microphone and tapped it a few times, waiting for everyone to quiet down. Once they did she began to speak,
"Greetings examinees, I am 'The Queen in Yellow', I am here to explain to you the UA entrance exam for this year. You will notice that on your seats there is a slip of paper, that paper will tell you where to go for your exam. Once you get there you will be paired with 4 other people taking the test. Your team's mission is to free a hostage locked away in a tower at the heart of our mock battlefield." A large projection behind her began showing an animated example of what she'd just said. Kyo silently cursed to himself It's not a free for all? Shit. I didn't train to work with other people, I guess I'll just have to wing it. The Queen in Yellow gave them all a smirk before continuing, "Don't think that freeing the hostage will be easy though, we have many robots scattered around the site to guard it. Oh, and one more thing, you may encounter the kidnapper along the way. That is all, good luck examinees; perhaps we will meet again in my hero class." Once she finished, the spotlight went out and the main lights returned to normal. Kyo got up and looked at his slip of paper to find out his exam site. Kumiko came up to him with a smile,
"So where are you testing?" She asked while looking at her paper.
"I'm apparently gonna be at Ground Sigma, how about you?" He asked,
"She's going to be at Ground Beta and I'm at Ground Alpha." Mao answered as she entered the conversation.
"Wait, how did you know that?" Kumiko asked with a confused look on her face.
"I sat next to you and read your paper while reading my own," she shrugged. "Anyway, we'd better get changed and head to our respective areas, but first…" Before either Kyo or Kumiko could stop it, Mao had pulled them all into a big bear hug. "Do your best today guys, don't let me down ok?" Kyo wrapped his arms around the both of them and said,
"We won't let you down… but don't you slack off either ok?" The group released and Mao gave each of them an approving nod,
"I won't if you don't."
Kyo then waved goodbye to his sisters and made his way to the locker rooms to change. When he got in there Kyo noticed a bunch of other dudes silently changing into their testing attire. Man, everyone looks very serious about this. I can't let them intimidate me though, I've worked too hard to get here. He thought while quickly removing his shirt. Kyo began to examine his shirtless self in one of the mirrors. He gazed at his well defined muscle structure with pride, reminiscing of the thousands of hours he'd spent building it. Today, all of my hard work will be put to the test. Failure is not an option, I'm going to prove mother and father wrong. Then I'm gonna show the world that I have what it takes to be a hero. Kyo finished changing into his workout tee and shorts before giving himself one last look over in the mirror. Everything about his face showed confidence and strength, and his defined muscles were on full display through the shirt. Today is the day, let's do this. Now that he was mentally prepared Kyo made his way through the halls of UA towards Ground Sigma. As Kyo approached the testing area he seemed to be the first one there. Well, I guess I'm the only one testing today, strange I thought I was supposed to have a team. Seemingly on que, Kyo saw a group of four people approaching. One of them, a short blue haired teenage boy, rushed over as soon as he noticed Kyo.
"Hello there, how are you doing today?" The short boy asked in an overly cheerful voice.
"Uh… fine I guess?" Kyo responded sort of confused
"That's great!" He said with a giant grin covering his face. "My name is Atsushi Yasu, and you must be our fifth teammate." Yasu slightly bowed while locking eyes with Kyo, "might I ask the name of our fifth teammate?"
This guy is kinda weird, and why won't he break eye contact with me? His brown eyes, his damn brown eyes.
"Sure, I'm Kyo Kuro" he answered before lightly pushing past Yasu to meet the other three. He first came across a girl with glasses, rusty hair, and an almost white skin tone.
"I assume you want my name now? It's Setsuko Kyouko, nice to meet you Kyo." Wow isn't she full of herself, Kyo thought quietly. He then turned to the last two members of the group. The first one to catch his eyes was a boy with dark blue hair and two giant bright red butterfly wings on his back. Upon further inspection Kyo could see that he also had two antennae on the top of his head.
"Hello, my name is Kyo Kuro, it's nice to meet you." He reintroduced himself, the butterfly boy nodded.
"Likewise, I'm Takashi Yu and I hope we all get into UA after today." The final person Kyo turned to was a taller girl with dirty silver hair. She had bright blue eyes and her smile was slightly unnerving.
"Hi, my name is Yuzuki Hina. Nice to make your acquaintance fair gentleman." Sounds like a richy, Kyo thought to himself. Suddenly a loud siren played over the speakers,
"ALRIGHT CONTESTANTS IT'S TIME TO LET THOSE BEAUTIFUL QUIRKS SHINE, BEGIN!
For a minute everyone just stood there not knowing what to do. Then the rusty haired girl, wasn't her name Kyouko? Suddenly clapped her hands together and took charge,
"Alright everyone, if we ever hope to win here we need a plan and we need it now."
"Woah woah woah, who said you get to take charge of this group?" The butterfly boy challenged, "I think if we just charge in and wing it we'll be fine…" he was promptly interrupted by a smack to his head from the silver haired girl, Hina,
"Are you out of your mind? The only way we'll win is by working together. This test was clearly designed to assess our teamwork skills."
"I think she's right," Yasu pitched in, "if we split up or charge in without a plan we could very well lose." Yu looked around at each of them, betrayal splattering his face. He then looked at the ground in defeat,
"Fine, we'll work together then." Kyo turned to Kyouko expectantly, she returned the look.
"You look like you want to say something, spit it out."
"Oh no," Kyo held his hands up defensively, "I was just wondering what type of plan you were considering. You seemed like you already had an idea of what to do."
"As a matter of fact I do" Kyouko readjusted her glasses to their proper position for effect. "First, each of you tell me everything about your quirks, how about you go first Mr. Kuro."
"Sure," Kyo nodded before turning to the rest of the group. "My quirk is Bioluminescence, it allows me to light up any point on my body up to 100,000 lumens, however if I overuse my quirk I can get serious rashes forming along my skin and they take days to go away." The rest of the group nodded with comprehension. However, behind him, Kyo heard a loud tsch sound. He turned towards the source of the sound to find Yu giving him a pitying look. "What's your problem man?"
"So you can make some light, it's almost as if we don't have light literally all around us."
"Do I need to explain to you how bright 100,000 lumens is?"
"I'm gonna take a guess and say it's bright. Which would be sooooo useful if it wasn't daytime right now." Kyo couldn't stand how cocky Yu's face became.
"How about you go next, butterfly boy, what's your quirk? You look pretty and fly off into the sunset?" Kyo nearly shouted the question at him. He simply shrugged
"Pretty much, but at least flying off into the sunset is something that's useful. I mean come on, if we had to fight each other I'd completely destroy you."
"I'll take you in a fight right here and now and we'll see who's better." Sure, if this jerk wanted to fight him then Kyo would happily accept. It was going to be fun wiping the smug look on his face in hand to hand combat. Unfortunately, before anything more could happen Kyouko got in between them.
"Boys! Break it up, we don't have time for this nonsense. Yu, stop being rude and dissing someone's quirk for no reason, and Kyo stop challenging your own teammates." Damn, she's just like Mao as far as being a mom goes. I'll have to wipe his smug look in other ways I guess.
"My my, not even five minutes in and this team is already off to an excellent start!" Yasu piped in, "Kyouko is making for an excellent leader, keep it up Kyouko." He gave her a big smile and a pat on the back.
"I will got next. My quirk is named Airbow and it allows me to launch blasts of air in any direction I want by tugging the air like a bow." Hina declared
"WOW, That quirk is so awesome. You're really gifted Hina," Yasu commented. Hina gave him a pointed look,
"You may now explain your quirk."
"I scream silence." he answered happily.
"What does that even mean?" Yu asked the question that they were all thinking.
"Sure, my quirk allows me to scream and negate all sounds in the area that I screamed in because of me screaming. Sadly it does make me lose my screaming voice if I scream too much." How many damn times is he gonna say the word 'scream' in a single sentence my goodness, Kyo thought to himself. "Kyouko, our glorious leader, how about you tell us what your quirk is, hmm?" Kyouko pushed her glasses back into their proper position before speaking.
"Very well, my quirk is called Electromagnetic Pulse. In terms of the simple minded, it allows me to short circuit anything that runs on electricity within a 30 foot radius of me. I believe that out of all of you I will be most effective in the front lines directly against the enemy."
"I can see that, you could probably get the whole operation done by yourself if you wanted with a quirk like that." Hina commented, "what's to stop you from leaving the rest of us in the dust?"
"She won't do that! Kyouko is our leader, she needs us," Yasu defended.
"Speaking of not abandoning us, hey bugboy, what's your quirk do again?" Kyo asked a little too aggressively.
"Sigh, I guess I can explain it again more formally. My quirk is called butterfly and it, obviously, gives me these two gorgeous wings and I can sense vibrations in the air with my antenna on my head."
"Has anyone ever told you that you're kind of annoying?" Kyo asked. "I mean, not to be rude, but your quirk isn't all that impressive ya know?" Without warning Yu charged Kyo. Kyo simply sidestepped the attack causing the other boy to fall onto the concrete. "My my, with combat skill like that I do not have high hopes for you." Kyouko took the opportunity to step in front of the combatants.
"What did I say about fighting your teammates? This is a group exercise people." She pointed at Kyo with a finger, "YOU, stop provoking him with insults," she turned towards Yu, "and YU, stop being a baby about this and work with us." Yu just grumbled something under his breath as he stood back up. Meanwhile Kyo slightly nodded but thought it better not to say anything more. Man she's a buzzkill. Kyouko moved herself back in front of the group before speaking again. "Alright everyone, now that I have taken a survey of all your quirks, I believe it is time to come up with a plan.
