Normal POV. (at Abbey)

Boris was personally surveying the camera footage. It wasn't an ordinary blader who had missed practice today. Kai was pushing his luck.

He took a drag from his cigarette and blew it out. The smoke formed patterns that stood out when it passed before the red light in the otherwise dark room. For some reason, this amused the director. It reminded him of his beautiful genius apprentice. A clueless boy who was burning bright like the golden ashes at the end of his cigarette. Soon he would burn out completely, leaving black ashes as his only memory.

This perfect scene was ruined when the lights automatically switched on indicating that someone had come to visit him. It was Alastair. His chief scientist. He was a bit annoyed, but he knew that Alastair wouldn't bother him without a reason.

"Speak," Boris commanded.

The words that came from the overexcited were music to his ears.

" B 264 finally triggered!

Our bit beast started her job sir!"

Boris was in euphoria. Maybe there was a reason that that pretty brat ran today. He has tapped into the dark phoenix's power.

"How was it?" He asked, too eager to wait for a detailed report.

"Beyond words."

KAI'S POV

There was smoke all around me, and the temperature was very high. I was searching in the smoldering mess, but I never got burnt. I picked up the last charred wooden plank. There was nothing beneath. I sighed in relief. No one was hurt. My body was still fueled with adrenaline, but my mind was calm. After years of training, I could easily separate emotions from logic, or that's what I thought...

The memory of what I had just done came to me. I pushed it aside. No one has been hurt. No one has seen me (except for that boy, duh. He will be taken care of later)

Still, I felt miserable. I sat on a small stool that had miraculously sustained my assault and started thinking about it.

"Kai?"

I heard my name but it was like hearing something underwater.

There was a pause and it struck me that I wasn't alone. I jumped up.

My eyes landed on a familiar face. Why is she everywhere?

My anger Changed into fear when I saw Zia looking at the debris and back at me. Shit! I should have used the little energy I had to escape the crime scene. I had an urge to just kick that girl and run away, that would solve the problem... For a while. But I couldn't afford to lose control again.

"Kai" she called again.

"Is my name so hard to remember that you have to keep chanting it like a Pokémon?" I asked, clearly annoyed.

"Or maybe I'm practicing to get it right when I complain about this to the police " she pointed towards the rubble.

I could think of various witty comebacks to seal this girl's mouth. But she had a point, I was in a tight position. Moreover, I could read people pretty well and my intuition told me that this girl wasn't here to play the law-abiding aunty.

"What do you want?" I asked coldly.

"When my patient told me you were about to assault him, I hadn't expected this. But looks like you are in deep shit. I could just complain... Or: I Can solve both problems for you. The boy and this fire. I can cover it up."

So that's why she was here, that coward was behind this. "What do you want in return?"

"Nothing much. Teach me ways to get inside that place. That Abbey "

I was stunned by the reply. So many boys spent their lifetimes trying to get out of that coffin, and this girl wanted to enter it?

"You have already been there," I said dryly, thinking of how I had seen her that day.

"That was different. I know there's more to that place than the orphanage. I can get inside the orphanage cause of some special favors I do for the guards there. Even guards fall sick and not everyone can afford treatment. I and my sister treat such broke guys at a low cost. We aren't doctors, my grandmother used to be a nurse. That boy you tried to kill was my client. That's why I can silence him for you. He is terrified and angry at you, but such emotions tend to take a backseat when your mom is dying, and only we can treat her for free."

I realized that this girl had a sadistic streak in her. But overall she was a nice person. I liked her confidence and ambitious nature. Making a deal with me was reckless.

"Fine then, I can help you. But I'd like to know why you are interested in that place"

"More clients. I Can steal medicines. And some personal reasons".

(That blush on her face was making it obvious that the 'personal reason' had something to do with a certain blonde blader.)

So she was clueless about what that place actually was. I decided to just teach her 2 of the safe routes I knew: they were in the second level. The pharmacy and kitchen.

"So it's a deal. We'll start this weekend. It's just 2 routes. By then stitch that boy's mouth close, and clean this mess." I pointed at the smoking rubble. She smirked and extended her hand. "A deal it is," she said.

I ignored her and walked away. She probably thought that she had dug up a gold mine today, but all she'd find digging there would be some rotten bones. I already had a plan to get rid of her if she interfered in my life a bit too much.

At the Abbey: (Tala's POV)

"When I get hold of that bonehead, I'm going to make sure he won't have legs left to run with"

Need I say that Bryan was pissed? The 'bonehead' in question was none other than Kai. After hours of practice, we were out here searching for him. Everyone was mad at him.

"Why does Boris tolerate him so much? He isn't the only blader in the world" Ian said.

I pursed my lips.. my teammates knew about Boris's intentions, but none of them had seen a side as intense as what I had seen.

"If he doesn't return in an hour, forget cutting his legs, I'll chop him into a million pieces.

"Go easy Bry, that would be the ultimate cockblock for Tala," said Spencer.

I almost tripped and fell. Where had that just popped up from?

"What are you talking about?" My voice took a threatening tone.

Bryan chuckled, "You know exactly what, Loverboy"

"Stop calling me that right now, it's an order" I tried remaining as dominating as possible while my cheeks were reddening.

"Well, did anything happen in your room last night Tala? Is that why Kai missed practice? You know... Anything he needs to recover from?"

IAN too! Now my dignity was going down the drain.

I took a deep breath to keep myself from murdering my teammates.

"Nothing like that happened Ian. He still hasn't completely given in." [ I spared them the detail of how I fell asleep on him last night. It was amazing]

"Ooh, poor heartbroken Tala" Bryan did a horrible mimicry of a girl.

I made a mental note to include extra paperwork for him while I made next week's schedule. I could just hope that my idea of revenge wouldn't get some scientist's neck sliced. With Bryan, you could never say...

"How did you guys find out?" I was still in the closet, so this was surprising.

At this, all 3 of the baboons started laughing.

"It wasn't obvious at all"

"Yeah the way he always kept the book on his lap while making notes on Kai's blading techniques, despite having a table was just a coincidence"

"So was that time Tala rushed to the washroom when Boris was explaining those match recordings and came back with that weird look"

"I just wanted to use the washroom, like any other person" I was getting angry and embarrassed. These guys had noticed..?

"Yeah, were you constructing a washroom to use? Cause people don't take that long."

"The lecture was boring. I needed some fresh air"

"Tala, the break was in 5 minutes? Why did you have to skip class then? Was it soo hard?"

The last question made me beet red.

Bryan smirked and said, "Hard to concentrate, I meant. You should wash your b- Aaaah"

I threw a snowball right at his face. The snow that was caught on his face melted. He was literally fuming. "Tala!" Before he could tackle me, Spencer caught him and dragged him away. Ian also went with them but came back just to say "don't worry. We have taken control of this ship. We won't let it sink"

He went back with that. I was scared. The last time these guys were on a mission to make Zia say a yes, things didn't go pretty (I'm thankful that Bryan at least tried to do something that didn't involve blood and explosion). But with Kai, I don't think he would hold back. I sighed. My boy has many dramatic days ahead...
