Now that the tone of the story has been set, we can begin the actual story. As stated in the prelude, the Federation collapsed as it would if faced with such a threat as far as we know, the eunuchs are cowards, greedy and incompetent leaders in times of trouble. I mean, 90% of the population lives in crippling poverty even though the federation 'has' a policy of 'equal distribution of wealth'. That's what they say but they live like kings while the average citizen starves? That's asking for a revolution to occur. There was another story that I read where when the Kaiju attacked, that old bastard Charlie was killed in the first attacks-which forced Odysseus to take power and establish a constitutional monarchy but that happen here….at least for as that's quite far down the road and I've only planned up till chapter 4 at this point.
Also, it quite nice to see that in such a short time-my story had picked up some readers with 14 people favouring it and another 13 following it.
Kamencolin: Thank you, I'll try to keep this as entertaining as possible.
Perseus12: Well it attacked America in cannon so why not keep that target in sights, though it must have scared the hell outta Charles as there is no way he can ignore this so until the Kaiju are defeated, his Ragnarok plan is merely a unreachable dream, especially since if he tried to start a war, he'll sooner be deposed before even the nobility support him.
Shadowkragg: Thank you for your kind words. As I said, this has been an idea of mine for a long while and I thought that with this shut-down being extended, why not try my hand at it. Tech wise, that's the idea but not at the beginning as things such as the Guren and Lancelot took years of funding and work to get off the ground so increased funding would speed things up but not by much.
Ewertondragon10: She will deal with him the best she can as if you know where is was taken from, then you know she's used to dealing with monsters as comrades.
Now before the chapter starts, let me make it clear that we will not pick up at the beginning of the first movie but rather we'll begin years before that so that I can properly flush out the characters.
Chapter 1: First Drop, First Battle.
24th March 2014 a.t.b
PPDC Kagoshima Shatterdome – Southern Japan
"Burai Black, report to Hangar 2-Bay 3. Kaiju attack inbound. Category II…" The intercom blared over the speakers into the up till now quiet sleeping quarters for a certain two jaeger pilots.
"Corporal Kirihara! Corporal Kirihara! Wake up, we've being deployed! Viktoriya called out to her partner as she bounced the spartanly decorated military room getting out of her sleepwear and getting dressed. She didn't really care if he saw her in only her sports bra and boy-short underwear as he had already seen her in much less clothing via her own memories. In response to her calls, her partner and co-pilot was already jumping off the bottom bunk of their bed and stripping off his nightshirt.
"I heard the announcement Corporal Serebryakov. We need to get to bay 3 in hangar 2." Lelouch replied as he wiped away the sleep from his eyes as he went over to his rather small closet and pulled out his clothing. At age 14, he was in the time of his life where he was just noticing girls and his own instinctual desires but unlike most, he had enough self-control to keep such primal things under control. Besides he reasoned that girls would see his bare chest and legs if he were to go the beach-same with them wearing swimsuits.
"The Kaiju is a category II, it's a little bigger than average." Viktoriya said as he pulled up her pants and started to fasten them.
"Well at that size, it'll have to a pretty big difference in mass and height to really matter. Codename?" Lelouch asked as he pulled the shirt over his head and went looking for his own pants. They couldn't really tell the time of day it was as the sleeping quarters was built near the centre of the complex which meant no windows or sources of natural light. All they had was the two florescent light bulbs over their heads and the desk lamps on the two work stations opposite the beds.
"Copperhead." Viktoriya replied, sounding both anxious and excited for this as this would be their first real combat patrol. No more simulations and drills, this was the real deal.
"Well that sounds reassuring. What time is it?" Lelouch said as he yawned before he looked down at his rather expensive watch, a gift from Kaguya for his 13th birthday. "3am?" He asked, that's way he didn't feel rested. They had only gone to bed four hours prior for God's sake.
"Well they did instruct us in cadet school that Kaiju can attack at any time." Viktoriya laughed it off as she left for the bathroom to finish getting ready.
"I just wished the damn things would wait till after 8am." Lelouch said as he reached for his boots but paused for a second. "Serebryakov."
"Yes?" Viktoriya asked just she was about to close the bathroom door.
"This is our first mission. Don't overthink things, this ain't no simulation, get me?" Lelouch reminded her with a serious look in his eyes. Reminding her that he was perfectly capable of functioning with less than normal hours of sleep, and was sharp and ready got action. Just like her.
"I do." She replied as she closed the doors.
(Later – In Hangar 2, Bay 3)
Only minutes later, the two pilots had been suited up in their brand new black and grey pilot suits with their helmets in hand. The two of them speed walking towards through the launching bay where it was a organised mass as ground crews and other workers raced around the place carrying out their duties. They soon reached their own stop but paused to look at their jaeger, that war machine. "Here she is. Burai black." Lelouch said as he starred up at the giant symbol of raw power and engineering. It was rather blocky looking though it looked much more streamlined that some of the older Mark 1s but had a solid design, powered up a 2nd generation Yggdrasil drive design originally designed for smaller knightmares as there was no alternative seeing as regular fossil fuels didn't have the power needed. Still, the black and grey beast was designed to be a monster and one of the best mark 2 currently in service.
"83.08m tall, weighing in at 2,277 tons. Constructed with a strong titanium-carbon-fibre-alloy armour plating. It's both light but can take a beating. 34 diesel engines per muscle strain." Viktoriya rattled off the facts as they went for the service elevator that would take them up towards the missing head compartment. Normally she wouldn't do that but had learned long since figured out she did so whenever she was really stressed. He had in own ritual for dealing with stress which was going over their plans, looking for flaws and adding countermeasures just to be on the safe side. As it stands now, he already thought up 11 different countermeasures for if they end up fighting a Kaiju. It took a minute but they reach the head and were let in by one of the crew opening the bulkhead like door.
"Let's get strap in. You don't mind if I take the left, do you?" Lelouch asked as he walked over to the left pilot harness and set-up.
"Not at all. You did all your simulations left side, right?" Viktoriya asked as both of them stepped into their positions and let the foot paddles look them into place as the back harness was lowered down and safely but quickly attached by the support crew.
"Yes, 45 drops. 44 kills." Lelouch said as the last of the wiring was connected to his suit and secured to ensure they didn't come loose. "And you?"
"On right, 27 drops, 24 kills. On left, 28 drops, 21 kills." Viktoriya replied as their oxygen lines were secured to their suits while she grabbed the right control ring which shot out of the floor plating.
"Good morning, Burai. How'd you sleep?" The jaeger controller officer asked them over the now open coms. In response, Lelouch reach for the panel of buttons handing over their heads but still in reach and pressed a button.
"Like logs, till this happened." Lelouch answered.
(On Bridge)
"Yeah well, you knew that when you signed up so stop complaining." The controller replied as she sat at his own work station, a fresh cup of coffee in head as like everyone around him, he was quite busy. Just as he put his cup down, he heard a commanding voice speak up behind him.
"I believe you should be engaging drop, sergeant." The short but strong commandeering officer spoke up as he walked over the controller's station. Unlike most of the workers, he was in full uniform with the badges of his rank and achievements pinned to his coat. Like most of the workers though, he was of Asian descent, more accurately from the relatively new nation of the Republic of Korea.
"Engaging drop. Brigadier Choi on deck." The controller called out to the two pilots as he readied his end for the procedure, everyone called 'the drop'.
"Brigadier." Viktoriya called over the radio in a form of salute.
"Release for drop." The controller said as he pressed the last button. Sending the disconnected head falling 6 stories towards the body of the unit. With the pilots this wasn't the first time it had happened but nonetheless, it was a rush. Though it soon ended as the arms holding the head slowed it down as it came closer to the body. Before it slowed down to a neat halt as it connected. As the head and neck sunk into the torso and spun around to lock itself in place like a screw, everyone continued on with the launch procedure.
(Back with Burai)
"Linkage confirmed. Locking down joints now, sir." They both heard the controller state out as they spun around and then locked into place.
"Engage pilot to pilot protocol." Brigadier Choi ordered as he must have been keeping an eye on everything going on.
"Pilot to Pilot connection protocol sequence to engage in 65 seconds." The on-board AI confirmed as they both looked towards the main screens which just happened to be shaped up a giant visor and saw the countdown commence.
"Burai Black, ready to waiting for connection protocol." Lelouch confirmed as he saw that all systems were green on their head and reached for another button which he along with one on Viktoriya's side, they pressed at the same time. That button being the main reactor ignition which powered up the Yggdrasil drive, within seconds the sakuradite core begun to produce power. As the power levels rose from the engines, the cables that were supplying the unit with power were automatically detached from the unit and swing away.
Once the engine power stabilised and all systems went green. The bay doors opened to allow the heavy tracked transport to carry the massive bulking mass of steel and power towards the waterline. It wasn't very bright out seeing how it was still early morning but the moon did offer some visibility for them. Within moments, the transport had made its way down the ramp into the made-made deep waterline as the unit was by to its shin in water almost as soon as it reached it.
"Corporals, this is Brigadier Choi Se-hoon. Prepare for neural handshake." Their commanding officer said to them as they countdown got closer and closer to finishing.
"Starting neural handshake in 20 seconds." The controller rattled out as he kept an eye on his own screens, bouncing from screen to screen to keep up with the flow of information.
"Are you ready?" Viktoriya asked him with a small smile.
"Yes and I apologise once more for what you're about to see." Lelouch replied as he had been told that his memories and emotions….were a lot to take in. it was one of the reasons it was so hard to find him a compatible partner.
"Your memories as scary, but if I can't handle that, how the hell am I going to be worth a damn in this fight?" Viktoriya joked though on the inside, she was scared of seeing his past again and they both knew it but he didn't call her own on it but chose to rather relax himself as he heard the last couple of seconds be called out before the connection was established.
The drift as it was called in the PPDC, was an experience one never really got used to. Using the technology of the BRS as a foundation. It was possible for two or even three pilots to connect through a medium such as a jaeger. Sharing memories, emotions and experiences till the line between their minds blurred and they began to act, to think….as one. The deeper the bound. The stronger the connection, which meant the better you fight. In what felt like hours, only seconds went by as their minds were linked and they found themselves feeling like they were back in their own bodies again.
"Neural handshake established, all signs are green. We're good to go, sir." The controller reported as he checked their readings and saw them riding deep in the green. Back with the two pilots, they felt it was time to continue with the launch.
"Right hemisphere, calibrating." Viktoriya said as she rose her right arm and like a mirror image, the jaeger and her co-pilot did the same.
"Left hemisphere, calibrating." Lelouch followed soon afterward and did the same, only this time the two pilots were of the same mind and then performed the same action which was closed their fists and bring them together, the two multi ton metal fist meeting for fist bump over the unit's chest area.
(On the bridge)
"Alright, corporals. Your orders are to hold the line at the miracle mile and observe Bravo Brawler handle the Kaiju. If things get hairy, you have permission to assist but don't let that thing passed you." Brigadier Choi gave them orders/
"Copy that sir." Lelouch replied as he and Viktoriya moved the jaeger to their assigned position. As the miracle mile varied from shatterdome to shatterdome, in this case-the miracle mile was the defensive perimeter for jaegers like them to defend to prevent Kaiju from reaching land and populated human settlements and in this case, was around 15km away from the shore. The term itself was coined by the PPDC and it meant the closest distance from shore when jaegers could still defeat and kill a Kaiju before it made landfall. Sure you could still kill them closer to shore but it was considered a miracle if you could for a number of factors-hence the term 'miracle mile'.
"Remember that you are defending a prefecture of over a million people. Don't screw around." The brigadier reminded them as he kept a close eye on the positions of the two jaegers and the positions of the incoming enemy.
"We hear you loud and clear." Lelouch responded as the cut the line and went back to their own duties.
(Back with Burai)
'I wonder why he's so serious.' Viktoriya thought to herself, forgetting that her thoughts weren't so private anymore.
"Because he thinks we're too young for this. Doesn't think we'll take things seriously." Lelouch answered her question as they trudged through the water towards their assigned spot. Even with a giant machine such as this, there was something fun about moving through water that was 'waist' high.
"Then will have just have to prove him wrong." Viktoriya replied, sounding cheerful despite the situation they found themselves in. 'It's weird being in someone else's head like this.'
'Think me about it.' Lelouch joked getting a small laugh out of her.
"Oh my Lord, was that a joke?" She asked him as she had known him to be all business all the time.
"My bride to be insists I 'lighten up'." Lelouch responded with a smirk, as the girl was in his head-she had a vague idea of the girl, though she was surprised that he was already engaged, and to a 11 year old girl but she didn't press it too much.
'Well's she's right.' Viktoriya replied as they moved on through the night till they reached their spot. Minutes later, they could make out something on their scanners. "Kaiju spotted. Distance 4.2 kilometres."
"Bravo Brawler, also sighted. Distance from target, 1 km." Lelouch called in as they observed as the two large shadows moved towards one another. Unlike themselves, Bravo Brawler was a mark 1 jaeger and piloted by pilots who already had three kills to their names. "Good luck out there Bravo, good hunting."
"Good hunting, Burai." Bravo replied as they engaged the beast. Sadly due to the visibility being so poor at such range, they couldn't make it what was happening.
'So is this gonna be our first patrol? As spectators.' Viktoriya asked as the sky cleared up which allowed the light from the moon to give them a better view of things and though they still couldn't give details, they could at least see that Bravo was putting up a solid fight.
'Well I'm lazy by nature so this is fine with me.' Lelouch shrugged his shoulders which in turn, made the jaeger shrug its own as they kept on observing things.
'Why am I not surprised? Hold on, what's happening?' Viktoriya said to him as she noticed something off in the way Bravo was moving. "Bravo, are you holding up alright?" She asked as they both heard a crash through the com.
"No, we're experiences a mild malfunction. It shouldn't too much to handle but be on your guard and get ready to assist if needed." Bravo replied as he blocked a swing from Copperhead before countering with a punch to the face, the left leg of the unit seemed to moving slower than before as gears weren't aligned right.
"Roger that, Bravo. We're right here. We see anything off and we'll came running." Viktoriya responded as she turned to her partner and nodded her head. They both knew that their time for combat may just came.
"Get ready." Lelouch said as they two of them got ready to run as fast as they could to aid their comrade.
(Back on the bridge)
"Bravo, was is the issue?" The controller asked as he noticed something off.
"Sir, there seems to be a problem with the left leg. The one we reported last week." Bravo replied as he dodged another attack as they found themselves on the defensive.
"Sir, the mechanics reported that they had completed all maintenance and repair." The controller reminded him as he switched to another screen.
"Well then either someone didn't look hard enough or is a liar." The brigadier stated making a mental note to grill the hell out of the maintenance crew later before he reached for the radio com. "Bravo, are you still combat effective?"
"ARRG!" They both heard Bravo scream. That wasn't a good sign.
"Bravo! This is command, respond!"
"We're been hit, I repeat we've been hit!" Bravo reported as they tried to fight off the Kaiju that was ripping into them.
"Their torso armour has been breached. The power-plant is at risk, sir!" The controller reported as multiple alarms sounded due to the damage to the torso of the jaeger. At this rate, the core will be breached and the automatic shut-down will kick in. They'll be dead in the water!
"Command, this is Burai Black, were moving in to assist, copy." Burai reported as they begun to move towards their endangered comrades as full speed.
(Back with the battle)
"Hold on Bravo, we're on our way!" Lelouch said as they raced towards the fight. As they got closer, they started to be able to make out more details. One of which was the fact there as a massive gash in the chest of Bravo, which was leaking fuel and sparking a fire across the thing. Another was the massive Kaiju bearing down on them, like the name suggested it was reptilian in form but had a larger than normal neck with an armoured head which vaguely looked like shining copper in the moonlight.
"Get here soon or we'll toast!" Bravo yelled back at them as they tried to fight off this massive beast but it was proving relentless, as if it could tell this was the best moment to go in for the kill-it starting to attack with more ferocity than before. Seeing that they'll won't get there in time to be a proper aid, they had to switch to a ranged based attack.
"Activate weapons." Lelouch called out as they both moved to try and blast the thing.
"Weapons active. Arming missiles. Targeting Copperhead." Viktoriya echoed as she pressed some switched and buttons on her console as Lelouch did the same on his. The result was 8 silo-like doors across the shoulders of the machine opening up. In them was modified anti-ship missiles which sacrifice range for explosive as each of the warhead had been replaced with depleted uranium shells with a 150kg explosive charge behind them. The aim of the missile was that the first part would pierce the tough skin or scales of the Kaiju and once in, the second part-the explosive component would self-detonate, the only trade-off was the range due to the missiles have to be made smaller to fit into their silos.
"Missiles locked." Lelouch confirmed. "Bravo, get out of the way, incoming missiles. Danger close!"
"Copy!" Bravo replied as they landed a sucker punch to the massive head of the beast which stunned it enough for them to break away. Once they were clear, Burai let it have it.
"Firing!" Five missiles flew off, first shooting high into the sky before curving back down towards the beast. The Kaiju saw them coming and roared as he moved to try and dive but three of the missiles struck home- injuring the beast going by the presence of Kaiju blood in the water. "Direct hit!" Lelouch reported as they finally reach Bravo and saw that they were beaten up real bad. However they didn't stay still long as they charged copperhead before it could react and landed a solid punch to the face.
"Don't let up. We don't stop till its hearts stops." Lelouch yelled as they grabbed the beat's head and gave it another punch before they followed up with a shot to the chest.
"[Ha…]Thanks for the save, Burai." Bravo breathed out.
"Switch places?" Viktoriya asked them as they fought with copperhead, avoiding the claws and teeth the best they could.
"Copy, good luck. We soften him up for you." Bravo joked as they kept up the fight, blocked a swipe to their side.
"We appreciate that. We just got this and we don't want to wreck it on the first day." Lelouch said as they tried to punch the beast again but this time, it was able to move out of the way as it roared at them.
"Command, we're switched roles with Bravo Brawler. Engaging Copperhead." Viktoriya called in as they gave chase to keep the pressure up.
"Copy that Burai. Good luck out there." Command responded to them as they got in close, raising their fist into a standard boxing posture. The Kaiju tried to go for their head but they ducked under the swipe and landed a quick(or as quick as a jaeger can anyway) jab to the face. Surprising the monster as it took a step back.
"Hit him again!" Viktoriya as they went for another jab, this time to the chest which didn't do as much damage as they hoped as the beast tanked the second blow and manage to knocked them in the side, pushing them back. Sensors blaring served as their only warning as the monster tried to jump on their back-seeing they didn't have enough time to try and turn around to fight them, the dodged to the side, getting a deep gash to the their side.
"Crap! That was close!" Viktoriya swore as the systems reported that the gash wasn't too dangerous, they shouldn't get another.
"Incoming, he's charging us." Lelouch yelled as they saw the best running/swimming towards them at an alarming rate.
"Then we'll respond in kind. Let's see what this baby can do!" Viktoriya, taking on a personality that was unusual to her, yell back as they started to run towards the beast as well. They met in the middle ad both jaeger and Kaiju grabbed the other. The beast merely trying to get a grip while the fighters used a hold similar to what sumo-wrestlers use. The systems strained and some warning went off as they fought to try and throw the beast off balance but found that to be a difficult task.
"Well, he's certainly got the weight advantage as well as the height!" Lelouch yelled as kept at it but found they were slowly being overpowered.
"Get him into a headlock." Viktoriya yelled as they moved back a bit, letting the beast lose its balance a bit before they grabbed they snaked their right hand around its longer than normal neck. To build off this, once the lock was in place, they brought up the right arm and with as much power as they could-smash it into the top of the kaiju's head. It was rather disappointing when they found they had dented their fingers and the not-copper head plate was still intact so they quickly broke the hold and stepped back to reassess the situation.
"Get behind him. Arm missiles!" Lelouch yelled as they saw an opening and took it. When the beast charged them again, this time they tripped it. As it fell-they moved out of the way and grabbed onto its shoulders, forcing it' face into the water and keeping the struggling and fighter beast there with all their power. 'We're fire them point blank!' He told his partner as the missile silo doors opened again.
"I see an opening!" Viktoriya responded as they saw a large gash across the monster's back, most likely from its fight with Bravo but they didn't question it but rather chose to fire. It was a bonus for them as the creature turned its head at that same moment, the result was seven out of eight missiles striking the wounded area while the eighth struck the left eye's blowing it up with a shower of burnet flesh and blue Kaiju blood. "Ha! There goes the eye you oversized Fish!" Viktoriya screamed in joy as the beast roared and rage in what must have been severe pain.
"Can we go the other eye?-It's diving!" Viktoriya started to ask but change his tone when the beast managed to knock them off and drive back into the water.
"Don't lose it. Aim missiles." Lelouch said as they followed both their sensors but also the floodlights attached to the jaeger that was tracking the trail of blood in the water.
"Are you thinking…?." She started before he turned and gave her a quick smile.
"You're in my head, you already know the answer to that." He answered the unspoken question as they armed their last barrage of missiles. Once they fired this one off, they'll have exhausted their best long ranged attack. They tracked the best as it moved around them, trying to attack from their blind spot like an predator on the prowl but they kept on turning-never leaving their back exposed. After some tense couple of seconds, they both noticed a spot in the water where there was movement.
"There! Incoming!" Viktoriya said as the best broke out of the water, injured, half blind and most likely pissed off with them.
"Get ready…" Lelouch said as they waited for the distance to close so that the beast would have no chance to escape. Once they was reached, they pulled the trigger. "Now!"
"Firing!" Viktoriya yelled as another 8 missiles slammed into the beast, two of which hitting its long neck and drawing even more blood. "Direct hit!" Lelouch yelled with smug joy as the beast screamed and bellowed as blood leaked out of its many wounds, though they didn't give it a change to retreat into the water again as this time they charged it.
"Move in for the kill while he's stunned!" Viktoriya said as they were able to grab onto its big bulking arms and keep them to the side, leaving its chest open to attack. Now that there was practically no distance between them, they deployed their secret weapon as another 12 smaller silos opened up on their own chest. In them-modified anti-tank missiles which had their warheads replaced with the solid steel projectile.
"Die!" They both screamed as they fired off 12 rounds into its chest, aiming for the upper portions so that the neck may be hit. 'Let's see how well you breathe without a windpipe!' Lelouch thought to himself with a wicked smile as they saw that around 4 if the missiles hit the neck, causing the beast more distress as it tried to break away from them. Seeing this a chance, they let go of one hand and used their new free fist to punch the thing in the neck where the missiles had hit. They didn't necessarily hear it but from the screams of the creature, they broke something which made it harder for the thing to breathe.
'It's still kicking! Go for the throat again. The jaw!' Lelouch yelled as they saw that there was a small gap in between the head and the neck.
'Good plan!' Viktoriya responded as she reach out to it and gripped the jaw as hard as they could before pulling! The Kaiju screamed in pain as its jaw came loose and swung its arms around in the hopes of getting them to break off but despite getting a couple more glancing blows, they didn't let up if anything they put more muscle into it and with a mighty pull and a scream from all three of them(the Kaiju included) the jaw was ripped clean off. "Arrrgh! Light em up!" Viktoriya screamed as they grabbed the flaying beast and started to land haymakers, jabs, crosses and even lifting on of their massive legs to bring their foot down on its broken skull, cracking it in more than a few places. Two minutes into this beat down, the beast stopped moving but they still landed a couple more blows to make sure.
"Kaiju signature dropping, Burai, is that thing still moving?" The controller asked them as they looked down at the corpse as it sunk beneath the waves. A large trail of blood left in its wake.
"That's a negative command, we tore off its jaw and blasted it with the cannons." Lelouch huffed as he reported their condition to command. The two of them didn't need to see it but that got quite a bit of Kaiju blood on them after that.
"Good job out there Burai. Clean up teams will be sent out ASAP. For now, you and Bravo are to return to base for inspection and repair." Brigadier Choi ordered them as he breathe a sigh of relief. Another Kaiju attack stopped.
"Copy that, command. We're see you when we get back." Viktoriya responded as the two started to move their unit away from the battle and back to base, filled with pride that all their training was worth it.
'So, we bagged our first kill. Pretty great, right? Lelouch asked as he breathe a sigh of relief.
'It's feels great. Maybe one day, we're be aces too.' ' She asked, still riding on that victory high, though she wasn't the only one.
'Hold on Ms. Dreamer. You need five kills for that. What are the odds of another Kaiju heading our way?' Lelouch asked her with a small grin.
'You never know, I mean. No-one thought Kaiju would even show up, much less there was alien life out there.' Viktoriya defended her reasoning with a huff, though the smile never left her face as she could see there was one on her partners as well.
'Fair point, but all I want to do right now is rest.' Lelouch conceded as she could pick up on the fact he was thinking about heading back to bed.
'I think we can agree there.' She said as they continued on their way.
(Later – In the Kagoshima Shatterdome)
"That was something else." Lelouch said as they walked away from their damaged jaeger. Turns out Copperhead had given them more than a few dings and scarps. But from what the maintenance crew told them, it wasn't anything serious so they'll be able to get her back to 100% in 3 days if they rush it.
"Yo! Wait up!" They paused as they heard someone or someones calling out to them. They turned around to see the crew of bravo walking towards them. "We wanted to say…thanks for the assist out there. If we were by ourselves, you would be fish food right about now." The two men thanked them as they both recalled how wrecked the mark 1 look when they came in. Apparently, it'll take at least a 9 days to fix everything.
"It was nothing really. We rangers have to stick together, don't we?" Viktoriya replied with her usual sweet smile, which made both men stutter and blush as they worked to collect themselves.
"Hmm, true that. See you around." One of them quickly said as they made their way towards anywhere but there, leaving a confused Viktoriya and smirking Lelouch as he didn't need to be in her head to know that she didn't understand why they left. Did she not understand that she was quite the attractive young girl, her innocent appearance and thick Russian accent-even when speaking perfect Japanese only added to her attraction factor? He was broken out of his thoughts then they heard their commander approach them.
"Corporals." The brigadier started as he approached them as they turned and saluted him.
"Sir!" They both replied at the same time, that wasn't because of their connection but merely because of military style training. The older man looked them over for a minute but before he responded.
"…Good work out there, maybe it wasn't a mistake to allow children to enlist after all." He said before he turned around and walked away, leaving the two in the still busy launch bay.
"Was that a compliment?" Viktoriya unknowingly asked in Russian. Though her partner had picked up enough of the language over his time with Kirihara to understand.
"I think so." Lelouch responded in her native tongue before he turned off to walk away. "Come on, we need to write up our AAR and submit it first thing in the morning which will be in…." He started before he looked down at his watch and saw what time it was. "3 hours."
"And we still have to attend lessons at midday." Viktoriya grumbled as they walked on off. Leaving the bay behind as they walked along the many corridors.
"It's the condition for pilots as young as us. We still need to obtain enough credits to be considered high school graduates. I still got to work through all the material to finish junior high." He responded to her as it was a pain but the governments of the world eventually fixed that little loop-hole that allowed minors to enlist. Countries like Britannia, Korea and China didn't see anything wrong with it but ones like Japan, Russia and France thought it barbaric to let children fight in warfare. The compromise being that recruits must be at least 12 to enlist into training can have to still complete a regular education curriculum on the side. If their grades dropped, they're kicked from the PPDC.
"I know, I know but can't it wait." Viktoriya said as they reached the sleeping quarters of the shatterdome and quickly made their way towards their door. Even if she was a girl and he a boy, strict training and even stricter punishments kept any tomfoolery or acts of….reproductive purposes from happening as it was thought best for pilot to share a room to make it easier for them.
"As much as I would want it to, no-it can't." Lelouch joked as he would much rather sleep till noon but they had things that needed to get down and what better time than the present, as they say.
And that is done. Their first deployment and first kill. I tried to keep things as close to the Pacific Rim movie was possible but that left the issue of content as the actual fights between jaegers and Kaiju are pretty short if you cut out everything else like when they switch to another character, I don't think that's bad as real fights often are very short but it did leave me with the issue of how long I could make this chapter before it started going off course so for now at least, chapters won't be so long as with my other cross over and BNHA story as I'll try to keep them in-between the ranges of 5 to 7k words.
I little trivia as to why I choose a character like Viktoriya(a leading supporting character in Saga of Tanya the Evil) is because of her personality and drive as she can deal with Tanya like she was any other person and while others would quake and hate their little blonde devil-she can stand tall and act like a proper soldier and even friend at times. Because of that, she was a good choice for a character that could enter the drift with someone as messed up and hate filled as Lelouch and come out without issues. Another reason is because she will replace Shirley in this universe as there is no way Ashford could start up in Japan as (1) the nation never fell to the empire like cannon and (2) as stated in the prelude, in the time following the war between the two counties-racism against Britannians was quite high so trying to start a school would be crazy. Due to this, all the friends and other side characters that appear in Ashford with the exception of Milly herself, are not going to be characters in this story.
Also, I stated that it's a Yggdrasil drive powering the jaegers instead of nuclear reactors(Which was what powered mark 1 through 3 jaegers) or the unknown type of engines used in mark 4 onwards. The reason for this was because as far as we know, nuclear technology isn't as far along as it is in our world and since knightmares were the base for the idea…it would make sense they would use them. it puts Japan in an powerful position as they supply the majority of the fuel but that also means that the island nations has to defend itself much harder than other nation as if the supply is cut or destroyed….they'll fucked.
One last thing. as its stated that jaeger pilots are in each others head, I made it a thing that they don't need to speak to communicate, just think what they want to say.
