As promised, the missing half of chapter 11, but now it is its chapter, enjoy.
Chapter 12: Trouble in Hong Kong
(With Lloyd, Cecile, and Nina)
"Did you hear what happened?" A couple of hours later, in one of the free launch bays, Cecile, Lloyd, and Nina worked on the F.L.E.I.J.A. and the system they plan to use to deliver it. As this was meant for jaeger use, the actual warhead was quite large, being even larger than even the biggest shells of and battleship ever built.
"No, what happened?" Nina, the genius brain behind this weapon of mass destruction asked. Like most of her fellow younger officers, she had aged well into her adulthood, though she was still on the skinny side.
"That new pilot the commander brought in and Mako tried to practice in the simulator. Things didn't go well." Cecile told them all as she had recently came back from the cafeteria with their trays and heard from the others what had gone down.
"Well, I just glad we managed to install that. Can you imagine what they could have done if they were practicing in an actual jaeger?" Lloyd smirked and though the two women he was with shivered at the idea, he was scared as well.
"Odds are, they would have destroyed the shatterdome. But we have our work to do." Nina spoke up to get them back on track, this was her legacy, something she had worked on for years now, starting as a science project back in her last year of junior high. This was what got her bumped up to a private school that before her, never took someone from the commoners as a student, no matter how brilliant. It was there she had the pleasure and honor of bumping into Princess Euphemia, quite literally bumping into her. It was through her that she met Milly and the rest of her friends. Made connections and progressed her research. She didn't know how at the time, but she was damn sure she'll get back at those monsters, she was going to make them pay for what they did in San Francisco, to her parents.
She quickly shook herself out of that mindset, she worked hard to ensure that no-one ever saw the burning, seething hatred in her and she wasn't about to let that stop now. Not when she had her shot to finish her work and see an end to the Kaiju threat.
"Yes, Nina, this is only the third one we've ever built, right?" Lloyd asked her as he put down the tools he was using to head over and take a bite of the food Cecile had brought them.
"That is correct, Professor Asplund. The first one was a bust and the second was a much smaller prototype to this one." Nine answered. That first one having been the one she built back in high school. not the best attempt but it was just to show off her work to potential investors and when it flopped, she saw her dreams nearly smashed. It was thanks to both Princess Euphemia and Milly that she had the strength to keep going and when the time came to present the thesis to Prime Minister Schneizel, she nearly had a heart attack when he agreed to give her funding for 6 months to build an actual bomb.
She built a working prototype in 5 months with 2 weeks to spare. And unlike its predecessor, it was a total success. And although she was concerned about moving up from a bomb that had to be set up on location to fitting it into a projectile that would be fired from a giant cannon, she was confident that they'll get it done on time. "I built it under Prince Schneizel, he was my chief backer and even lent us a weapons testing site in Area 5 where we detonated it."
"Are you nervous, Lloyd?" Nina asked the man that had been her teacher for the last five years.
"About the project? No. About the material at play? Yes. Uranium-235 is already a dangerous substance, add that the amount of refined, energy-rich and unstable sakuradite over there and we have quite the barrel of monkeys to contend with." Lloyd pointed out as he gestured to the corner of the repurposed launch bay where they had built a lead-lined storage unit for their radioactive component. Just entering required either one of their codes or the password that Stacker had and even then, one was required to wear a radiation protection suit as going in without was moronic. Nearby to that containment unit, was their large cache of refined, liquid sakuradite they were planning on packing into the warhead along with the nuclear part. To prevent anything from happening, they were stored on a platform that limited the amount of shock that could reach the container if the base itself was in danger, there was a no firearms rule in the entire launch bay and there was a no smoking within a 30m radius of it. All to prevent that stuff from blowing up on them and possibly killing or maiming them.
"We took as many safety precautions as needed and then some, odds of even a minor accident are extremely slim." Nina reminded them as they had been sure to ensure that the odds of an accident being anything more than minor would be as low as possible.
"That's not my concern, my concern is the fact that the drop method we're using is a risk onto itself. A rifle that large is a massive undertaking by itself. We were lucky that we were already working on one when you approached us. Gave the brass the reason to keep the funding coming." Lloyd, in a rare sight, called the situation was it was as he turned towards the project that he and Cecile were more worried about. The giant, jaeger sized rifle. As it was based on the design for a prototype rifle of his design, it shared many similarities with the V.A.R.I.S that he wanted to build but for practicality and budget reasons, it was still very different. As it was sized to a jaeger, the rifle had a truly massive caliber, firing projectiles 380mm in diameter. It had a magazine but due to its sheer size and the strain on the auto-loading system, it could only fire 2 rounds per minute and had a magazine that could take 5 rounds. Still, they could only afford to build two of them, the first one already done and stored away for safety.
"We are just lucky that the Lancelot performs as well as promised, seeing how you blew almost our whole budget on it." Cecile reminded her long-time boss seeing how when they got the contract to design the Lancelot under the Ashford, Lloyd went nuts and spared no expense, if not for her frequently 'reminding' him, there wouldn't even be an ejection system for the pilots.
"Shouldn't you be referring to it by its first name?" Nina asked as she wondered why not call it by her first name like with most other jaegers.
"Don't even. The name was a compromised and I would very much like it if you didn't get Lloyd into a rant about why his choice was better. Relations between the empire and Japan are still tense so trying to start an argument about a name isn't worth it." Cecile explained to her as the name wasn't what Lloyd wished but it was either that or lose the project all together to another designer.
"Oh, alright." Nina nodded her head she didn't pay a lot of attention to politics but she could never understand why people saw themselves as better due to where they were born. They had bigger things to worry about than that. "Well, at least the rifle in question being that large makes out job a little easier. With such a large weapon, the shell is a question that will house the device is much larger."
"Yes, it makes our job much easier if the device in question doesn't need needle sized tools and microscopes for proper observation." Lloyd agreed as he put his food down and went over to clean his hands before getting back to work.
"Either way, we don't have a lot of time. The mission will take place in less than two days, we need to finish final preparations." Cecile added in as she took a quick drink of water before going back to work on the computer terminal she had been manning.
"Deadlines, oh how I hate working with a deadline." Lloyd muttered and would have continued if not for the alarm that sounded through the entire base. The alarm itself wasn't too loud but what he heralded in was something that always grabbed people's attention.
"Another attack?!" Nine yelled out, both out of fear and hate as they paused what they were doing.
"But's it's only been a couple days since Sydney." Cecile stated as they thought they'll get another fee ways before the next attack.
"Less talking, more working. We need to finish this as soon as we can." Lloyd told them al as he started to work as fast as he could. They didn't need to fear that the shatterdome itself would be hit, in every attack since K-day, there had only been 2 cases of Kaiju attacking them so logically, they were safer here than in the city.
(On the bridge)
"The breach was exposed at 23:00 hours. We have three signatures, category fours, codenamed Leatherback, Mammoth and Otachi. They'll reach Hong Kong within the hour." Tendo called out to the gathered crowd of both pilots and ground crew, the pilots in question bar Raleigh and Mako, wear all suited up in their gear and ready to go.
"Evacuate the city, shit down all bridges. Get as many people as you can fit into shelters. Crimson, Cherno, Obsidian. You're our frontline, you three are ordered to stay on the miracle mile and meet the Kaiju to try and stop them before they reach the city." Stacker gave out orders as he gestured to the three crews in question, Crimson wearing blood-red, Cherno being dull green, and Obsidian wearing black and dark purple.
"Sir!" All three teams replied at once as Stacker turned to the others.
"Guren, Striker, Shinjuku. You three stay back and look after the coastline, we can't afford to lose you, Striker so no heroism and only engage as a final option, understood?" Stacker ordered the other four, purposely glossing over Gipsy as they didn't have a co-pilot for Raleigh they could spare.
"Yes Sir!" They all replied, Shinjuku's pilots wearing white and gold, while Guren's wore white and red as lastly, Striker's wore green and grey.
"The rest of you, stay put." Stacker said as he eyed Raleigh and Mako before he clapped his hands to get everyone moving. "Let's go, people!" It wasn't long after that, while it rained heavily that jaegers were scrambled as VTOLs lifted off carrying the advanced team into the night sky while the rearguard made their way through the relatively shallow waters to their positions.
"Command, striker has the ball and we're on a roll." Chuck, now strapped into Striker Eureka along with his father, called back to command as they had been the last ones to launch, moving to join up with the other three at key positions on the line.
"Command, near position and awaiting your orders." Herc called up as they moved.
"Remain at the miracle mile and engage at your digression." Stacker told them over the radio as he stood on the bridge, observing everything as it happened on screen. "Keep your eyes open and your wits about you. These category 4s are the biggest we're ever seen both in size and weight." He reminded everyone as the advanced team soon reached their destination and the VTOLs slowed down to allow the jaegers to drop without incident.
"Copy, we'll keep our eyes peeled and killed the sons of bitches the first chance we get." Lelouch replied to that as he flexed his neck to the side as he looked over all the systems packed into his machine as Viktoriya handled something else.
"No flashiness, fight to put them down and put them down hard." His Russian partner told everyone, getting a snort from Cherno.
"Trust me, we don't fight to look good but get the job done." Sasha told as they found themselves the first one with the green light to drop as she reached up and put in the commands to cut the lines carrying them. "Cherno Delta, reaching target zone. Disengaging transport."
"Crimson Typhoon, reaching target zone. Disengaging transport." After then, Crimson followed after them as the three armed machine dropped into the water.
"Obsidian Zero, reaching target zone. Disengaging transport." Viktoriya called out as she pressed the command to follow the other two and once they dropped and found their footing, they began to move forward as a group, keeping enough space to not get in the other's way but close enough to be of assistance if once gets attacks. "Obsidian Zero, in position at miracle mile, beacon is activated."
"Scanning the waters for any Kaiju signatures. Command, do you see anything on your scope?" Lelouch asked as like the other two jaegers, they was keeping a close eye on the waterline, using both their scanners and their powerful floodlights to try and spot any potential threat before it got a chance to jump them.
'Keep your eyes on the scanners, if we can nail one of them with our Hadron cannon, it'll help us end this fight.' Viktoriya thought to her partner as she wished she could see it right now, it always helped when their target surfaces early as it gave them time to aim and nail the damn thing. Even if the blast didn't kill it, it always managed to wound them enough that killing them was that much easier. As they looked through the murky waters with both lights and other sensors, they picked up a large and fast-moving target heading right for them.
"I got movement to our left." Lelouch called out as all three paused in their movements to get ready, no sooner did they stop moving did truly massive Kaiju break out of the water and charged Obsidian. The creature appeared to be covered in thick, scaly hide with some fur here and there. it was much bulkier then Obsidian in a way a man is much smaller than a bull but what drew their attention to the charging monster was the fact it's head not only had an armored looking skull plate made from what they could also assume was bone and scales but it looked like it came straight off an elephant with both the snort and the very large, very sharp looking tusks that looked more than capable enough of shredding through their metal hull.
"Contact!" Viktoriya called out as they were forced to take on the beast full-on, by which they had to grab it by the tusks to prevent it from taking them out of the fight and killing them. Still, with all that bulk and speed behind it, they found themselves being pushed back as they struggled to keep the tusks as far away from their chest as they could.
"Dammit, we got one ourselves. Cherno, keep an eye out for the third one!" Crimson called out, they glanced at them to see that they were being assaulted by who they only assumed was Otachi, the Kaiju using its muscular tail to slam the Chinese machine away and into the water. Turning back to their opponent who they knew must be mammoth, they worked to slow themselves down before he could get too far from the others.
'Damn, this one is a big boy.' Viktoriya cursed as they changed their footing and used their hold on the creature to toss it to the side, giving them some breathing room.
'Nothing we can't handle.' Lelouch replied as they activated the right chain sword and got ready to fight. Their opponent feeling the same way as it recovered from the fall quickly and roared at them as it charged.
(Back with command)
"Sir, all three jaegers have engaged in combat." Tendo reported as they kept constant track of all three jaegers and the Kaiju they were all fighting. While Stacker stood over this and watched the crews do their duty, Mako and Raleigh could only watch on as they had been benched. Stacker spared the two a glance but went back to his duties.
"Keep the others back, unless there is a problem, they are to remain where they are." Stacker ordered as it didn't seem like the other three jaegers would need to get involved but anyone that ever fought a Kaiju can tell you that there can be quite surprising and unpredictable so for now, better sage than sorry.
"There is something…different here." Dr. Gottlieb pointed out as he was also present watching as things played out. He had already predicted that a triple event attack would occur but not this soon however, much to the unexpected, that wasn't what he was hung up on since these things act like under orders. There was something at way here, he didn't know what but this attack didn't feel right.
"My thoughts exactly but we don't know what. All we can do is play it safe." Stacker agreed with him as even though these things are bred for war, they were never expected to act like this, one would assume that they'll target one jaeger and try and destroy it as soon as possible.
(Back in the field)
'Dammit, this guy is a fast one.' Meanwhile, back in Hong Kong harbor, the three jaegers found themselves in the thick of it as they exchanged blows with their monstrous opponents. Obsidian Zero was still battling Mammoth which contrary to its large size, could move when it wanted to as they tried to fire their left arm-mounted Hadron cannon only for the thing to dodge the blow and charge them again.
'Incoming!' Viktoriya warned as they once more had mere seconds to counter, in this case, they chose to race towards it and meet it in the middle with a crash of metal against harden skull plate and scales.
'And strong, that bulk must be all muscle.' Lelouch noted as even though they used their bulk to try and add more weight to the punch, the mammoth still kept going and nearly ran them over, forcing them to dodge to the side as the creature turned around and faced them, leading to the two circling each other, watching the other, waiting for an opening to strike. "Cherno, Crimson, how you holding up?" They asked the other two.
"We got a big guy, but this might take a while." Sasha replied for Cherno as they fought blow for blow with Leatherback, their opponent was smaller than mammoth but seemed to make up for that in armor and speed seeing how Cherno more often than not was forced to bob and weave like a boxer to avoid blows from its giant fists and claws.
"Our opponent is a slippery one, but we'll deal with it." Crimson meanwhile had to deal with the smallest of the three but that meant it was the fastest as they had already switched over to thundercloud formation as they slashed and cut away at the Otachi, spilling what was surely liters of glowing blue blood into the water. "We've already managed to draw blood." They added in a particularly nasty cut managed to take out one eye of the kaiju, leaving it screeching in pain and what must have been anger as it ramped up its attacks.
"These things don't seem to be all that concerned with losing it, hurry up and kill it." Viktoriya ordered them as they found their opening and charged the Kaiju, both arm blades drawn and ready for action.
"Roger!" Both other machines replied but not even a minute later and Crimson was calling out for back-up.
"Back-up, we need back-up!" Crimson called as Otachi used its tail to not only bask them but to also attack at their headpiece, the pronged tail gripping them with crushing force as they fought to keep alive as long as they could as their con-pod around them slowly gave way to the stresses from the kaiju's attempt to crush them
"Dammit, that bastard as Crimson by the head!" Cherno called out as they tied to fight their way to them but their foe wasn't letting up and managed to land a blow that damaged their right arm, forcing them away from helping and keeping them on the defensive.
"Hold on, Crimson, we got you!" Viktoriya called out as they knocked their opponent away before switching off their MVS blades and while using the one left hand to keep it at bay with the left hand, they brought u their right one and brought up the Hadron cannon and started charging it.
'Charging up Hadron cannon' Viktoriya told her partner as they found that they were started to lose their power struggle against mammoth but they had brought enough time as the hadron cannon was fully charged and their target was locked.
"Head-up Crimson, we're firing on you. Danger close!" Lelouch informed them as Viktoriya pulled the trigger and not a second too soon since right before Otachi could rip their head off, it's tail found itself hit by a Hadron blast, one strong enough that it burned tight on through and blasted the damn thing off, leaving only a stump on one end and useful tail still gripping into Crimson's head on the other. Though they had saved their fellow crew and their jaeger, they were in no condition to fight as they struggled to keep up and were only lucky that the pain and shock of losing a tail kept Otachi from pressing that advantage.
"Command! We're moving in to assist." Shinjuku Lancelot called out as they started moving, rushing to the aid of their comrade as they drew one of their massive, hulking blades. The dull, grey blade only stating that way for a moment before it activated and turned blood red as the power flowed through it.
"Copy, get Crimson outta there!" Stacker ordered them as he refused for them to lose a unit this close to the operation, they needed as many hands as they could get as is!
"Crimson, do you copy? Crimson!?" Shinjuku asked as they rushed towards Crimson and used one hand to remove the claw still attached to them so they could get a better look at things, as they feared, while the main body didn't suffer all to much damage, the head was a crumpled mess, one that looked like it was barely holding on as it.
"We still have a signal but it looks like all three are injured." Tendo told them over the radio as the three pilot's suites while still transmitting their vital signs, also transmitted that they had suffered several injuries.
"Roger, Shinjuku, you have range. It's yours, we have our problems." Kallen told them as they kept their distance as Shinjuku protected Crimson while they waited for Striker to move up and guide the thing back to base.
"Roger that." Chiba replied as they faced their wounded opponent with fire in their eyes. They were going to kill this bastard right now. They didn't give it time to think as they pulled out the second blade and charged.
'Dammit, what the hell is that skull plate made of?' Lelouch asked as they found that though their blades did damage, the armor around the damn thing's face was so thick that they couldn't penetrate fast enough as the beast never stayed still. They had tried to go for its sides but it was careful in not showing its weak points to them. Mammoth in turn eyed them before it roared to the skies as it moved to stand on two feet, and while that wasn't surprising, what it did next was.
"What the hell?" Lelouch asked as he and Viktoriya watched wide-eyed as the beast brought its arms up and close to its face as it spread its legs to give it better balance. "Is that a-"
"Combat stance. Looks like these things are learning." Viktoriya noted as their opponent was upping the difficulty here as they also got into a stance, one that favored blades as they hoped they could finish this quickly as with a foe such as this, the longer they took, the better their chances of being defeated and killed.
"Obsidian, repeat that. Did you just say that it's taken a combat stance?" Stacker asked them sounding both shocked and slightly….frightened but this turn of events.
"Positive. We need to take this thing out now." Lelouch concluded as they started to fight with the beast once more, this time trading blows in a fashion that didn't match that of earlier fights as it wasn't a fight between a beast and a human but rather, it was a fight between a human and an intelligent beast of that made sense. As Shinjuku and Cherno kept their respective opponents at bay, they soon found themselves being overwhelmed as just about every strike they landed hit that damned skull plate while Mammoth got closer and closer to doing actual damage. They ran out of luck when the beast dodged a lunch attack from them and seeing them slightly off-balance, struck. In that it's smashed its giant right first right into their chest which sent then flying back into the water, lading on their ass. "Fuck!"
"Aaah!" Viktoriya uttered as they both felt that one but they didn't have time to gather themselves as mammoth had closed the distance and was about to spear them lean through with its tusks. Seeing no way for them to grab them again or dodge, she quickly brought up their defensive systems. "Shield, shields!" She cried out as managed to activate their blaze luminous shielding just before the tusks made impact but even then, the force behind them was no joke as it rattled them in their harnesses and when they attempted to bring up one of their blades to go for the vulnerable neck, it grabbed into the forearm and started squeezing, damaging the MVS housing before it broke through it, sending a jolt of pain shooting up both their left arms.
"Left MVS is gone!" Lelouch reported as they were forced to raise their right hand and grabbed onto mammoth left as it tried to reach for their head. The left arm, though damaged and feeling like someone took a blade to it for the two pilots, was still functional enough to keep the other hand at bay but that left them open for mammoth to continually smash its tusks against their shields to get at them.
"Our shields won't last under this!" Viktoriya called out as with each strike, their shield generators kept building up more and more heat while draining their fuel reserves, they wouldn't last another minute like this. Lucky for them, as soon as they took the plunge into the water where they could barely keep their head above the freezing cold water, Guren had started to move towards them. Striker would have gone with but by Stacker's orders, they were to remain where they were unless they needed to intervene.
"Heads up, Obsidian, we're coming!" Gino called out to them as they raced as fast as they cold towards them, the two pilots sparring a glance at Crimson as it wobbled back towards the shoreline, while slow and an easy mark right now, all three Kaiju had bigger concerns in the form of the three jaegers they were currently battling.
'No choice, fire the AKM!' Lelouch said as he got ready to lower the shields around their shoulders while at the same time, aiming at they wouldn't have the time to do both separately.
'But we'll need to lover the shielding there to fire!' Viktoriya thought back as they felt as their shields began to fail as mammoth pushed the attacker.
'Better that than dying.' Lelouch countered as he finished putting into the targeting data and prepped the missiles for launch as soon as they could get them ready.
'Alright, prepping them. Give me a second.' Viktoriya agreed as she took charge of watching the shields and looking for the best moment to lower them.
'Easier said than done!' Lelouch replied as he worked both arms with as much muscle power as they could put out to hold the Kaiju at bay. It took far longer than the two were comfortable with seeing how the shields on their right side had just about been blown but they got their opening as mammoth was pulling his head back for what they were sure was the final push to smash through and piece their chest. Seeing that this was now or never, they quickly shut down all their shields rather than try and shot down some to save time, this time allowing them to grip at mammoths hands with all they had to make sure he couldn't dodge as their shoulders opened up to reveal 5 missile silos in each, all of them primed. Mammoth saw this was dangerous and tried to jump back but their grip on his kept him there and what's better, his attempt to move through him off balance.
'Oh no, you don't! Fire!' They both though at the same time as they fired all ten AKM missiles they had on them into the beast's face and while one or two wouldn't have done much thanks to that skull plate, ten proved more than enough to crack and smash it along most of its surface, heck, one missile managed to fly into his mouth before exploding while the other smashed into the base of the right tusk, sending what was surely the most expensive piece of ivory down into the watery depths.
"Obsidian. You good?" Kallen asked as they finally reached them as they were pulling themselves out of the water.
"Yeah, a little banged up, we're good." Viktoriya relied as she breathed out a sigh of relief at still being alive as her partner checks what was damaged and what wasn't. From what he was seeing, both their right Hadron cannon and MVS chain blade were far too damaged for use, they also suffered damage to their right side as the blaze had failed in that area, not enough to get them to turn round and return to base but enough to let them know one good hit to their right chest area will take them out of the fight.
"He did a number one you." Gino joked to ease the tension as they looked them over and could say that they certainly looked like they were nearly drowned while impaled.
"Not like he didn't pay for it." Lelouch responded as the got back into a fighting position, all while command rattled out updates to them as they both watched as mammoth recovered from the attacks and roared at them, though now it was lacking a tusk and its skull plate was covered in cracks and some places, missing pieces all together. "Watch yourselves, that thing knows what it's doing."
"So we saw." Kallen replied as they charged their wounded foe, as they did so they brought up their radiant wave surger for the attack. "Die!" She cried as they tried to take the damn thing out in a single blow but even injured, it still showed clear signs of survival instincts and intelligence as it dodged the blow and tried to claw at them, forcing them to intercept the blow and step back.
"Yikes, that was too close for comfort." Gino said as that was a pretty fast counter-attack, but they didn't let up as they went to work trying to kill it, making ample use of its injuries as they weaved into and out of its personal space and landed blow after blow to the creature, at one point they even managed to find the broken tusk which they used as a makeshift knife to stab into the side of the beast, drawing blood. As the two of them fought, Obsidian moved into a position where they could attack the thing when it least expected and wouldn't see them coming. They got that opening when a blow from Guren stunned it momentarily, giving them time to rush towards it from behind and thrust their right blade right into its back, narrowly missing what they couldn't only assume was the spine due to a last-minute jerk from the beast when it heard them coming.
"Room for more?" Lelouch growled as they kept the blade in the beast's side as it tried to get them to back off as they used their other hand to try and rip through its scales with their own sharpen fingers. "That's some tough scales." He noted as they were forced to back away as mammoth managed to strike them a couple of times. As he turned to face them, which left him open for a strike from Guren which reached for its arm with its radiant wave surger.
"Got yer!" Gini cheered as with their hand holding on, they triggered the weapon, sending massive amounts of heat and radiation into the creature and through its size moved to be too large for a one-hit kill, the blast did cook the beast's right arm, rendering it useless as nerves fried and muscles busted, it was a very bloody mess. Though it had only been no more than five minutes since the fighting started, they felt like it had been an hour but now it was drawing to a close as mammoth was wounded, crippled, and tired as it tried to get away from the two and regroup with the others, not that they'll let it as Guren punch it across the face, sending more fragments of its skull-plate into the water and exposing more of its soft unprotected skin.
"Let's finish this!" Viktoriya called out as the two rushed it from opposing sides, forcing it to try and make a choice of face one or try and flee. When it moved to run towards where leatherback was pushing back Cherno, Guren intercepted it and managed to grab onto it. Holding it in place as Obsidian came in with its right MVS drawn and ready and though it struggled and roared, it was on no condition to put up much of a fight. This proved to be the final blow of the fight as Obsidian drove its blade right into its side, cutting apart muscle and organs as the monster screamed out in pain as they repeatable brought out their blade only to stab it again in a different spot in that area as they used their other hand to attack the vulnerable portions of its face now that its damn skull plate was damaged.
"One down." Lelouch breathed out once Mammoth stopped moving, their little brutal display covering both machines in its blue, glowing blood as Guren let go and let the body drop into the water. They didn't give themselves time to rest as they turned to the other two jaegers they tied and put down their opponents. As the observed, the two machines seemed to be holding their own, though they started moving towards Cherno as that damaged arm was started to give them a whole lot of problems, problems that leatherback seemed to be using to gain more and more ground against them.
"Cherno, we're coming in to assist." Viktoriya called out as the two jaegers started running towards them. however, things only got worse as Otachi, injured and bleeding heavily from the multiple slashes on its body, rushed past Shinjuku and through they picked up Suzaku cursing in surprise at this as they made a desperate swipe to kill the thing, the blade only managed to take off the left arm from just above the elbow joint. Something they didn't see coming was the fact that the damn thing, even with a freshly amputated arm, kept going as it dived into the water. Cherno heard their calls and tried to prepare for a two on one while back-up rushed in to assist. But what they couldn't have prepared for when the thing broke the surface, flaps at the bottom of its chin and covering its throat pumped up and spate out a glowing azure liquid at them, the liquid hit home and showed itself to be very acidic as it started to eat away at their hull, getting as far as their Yggdrasil drive which sent off a cascade of errors and systems failures. Even their con-pod wasn't safe as the acid ate to it, leaving a large gap where rain was getting in. As this happened, everyone accepts Striker was already rushing to their aid as Shinjuku was preparing to take off the head of Otachi from behind while Obsidian aimed both its chest-mounted Hadron cannon and it's right arm mounted ones for Leatherback as Guren rushed in to try and make some distance between the damaged jaeger of his target.
"No….you don't…"
"What the hell was that?! Who said that?!" Lelouch demanded as he heard a strange and inhuman voice speak up, but what got them all was the fact that that didn't come through the radios but rather, it felt like it was coming from their heads. The shock proving so much that they all momentarily paused in their actions as they tried to figure out the source of such a phenomenon. That pause game leatherback the time it needed to charge up its unknown organ on it's back.
"You have…no advantage…..over the true….masters….!"
Seeing that they didn't have the time to try and figure this unknown voice out, Lelouch took action as he saw this charging device and though he didn't know what it was, he refused to let the damn thing show them. As the thing slammed down the hammer looking back through the charging ball of green electricity, he kept up the charge of their Hadron cannons as he aimed for its center mass with the intention of burning a hole right through it. "Look out, it has some kind of weap-!Arg!" Sadly, he proved too slow as while he tried to warn the others of this, the green electricity ball was smashed by the hammer looking part of the unknown appendage, sending the green ball out in all directions as a wave of pulsing power that when it hit the jaeger, burned through their systems and targeted their Yggdrasil cores, the sakuradite in each of them somehow coming to a halt and ceasing energy production, something that was made abundantly clear when all of them just froze in the waters with the charging Hadron cannons of Obsidian dying down even faster than they charged up.
"Arg!" This meant that all of them were violently disconnected from the drift which caused them all no small amount of pain but also shut down their machines entirely. The other pilots screamed in pain, with Cherno being the loudest as their violent shutdown sent feedback through back their heads. The blast sadly didn't stop with them as it traveled quite the distance, so much so that it made landfall and though the city itself was largely untouched, the Shatterdome was not as almost all systems, lights, and computers in the base proper shut down, leaving them in the dark figuratively as they now had no idea of how the battle was going and literally as they barely had enough light to make their way around the place, with the bridge having some light from the open bay doors.
"What's going on?" Herman asked as they both saw how their holographic screen of the battle just died along with everything else.
"The blast, it jumbled all the jaegers electrical circuits." Tendo reasoned as he tried to restart them but found no luck, quickly he turned to other members of the staff present and ordered one to try and activate their back-up generators but found that they too, were unresponsive.
"What the heck was that?" Viktoriya asked as she along with her partner attempted to move but found their controls unresponsive, they didn't even feel the unique vibrations and tremors of their machine moving so they knew they were dead in the water for some reason. Seeing that they were otherwise out of the fight, they removed their helmets as they tried to make sense of what was happening.
"Command, do you copy? Command? Tendo, answer me dammit." Lelouch tried to contact command with the actual physical overhead display now that their hologram one was out but he got nothing, not static like no signal, but nothing as in there was no difference in the thing being on or off.
"Looks like Newton was right, they are being built. They're adapting, this isn't a defense mechanism, it's a weapons for fighting jaegers." Herman had to admit as there was no natural environment where what amounts to an EMP would even be possible as a biological adaptation.
"Get me striker, Guren, Obsidian, any of them, and get them running yesterday." Stacker, on the other hand, tried to stay in the here and now, which was they were in a tight bind as Crimson had barely made it back to the shatterdome before the pilots were taken away to the med-bay for emergency care and Cherno was wounded and bloody in the water. Things were only worse for him as the remaining jaegers he had out in the field appeared to have been taken out by that blast.
"I can't sir, all the jaegers run on sakuradite, whatever that blast was has fried their circuits. It'll take me two hours to reroute the auxiliary on just one of them." Tendo replied to him as it would take time they didn't have to reactivate the thankfully, non-sakuradite based emergency powers cells on any one of the jaegers. The pilots themselves had no way of doing it which left it up to him and him alone.
"What in the world could that blast have been?" Stacker asked them, trying to find out more.
"A Gefjun Disturber." Rakshata answered his question as she long with Lloyd walked into the bridge, both looking far more serious than normal as they had noticed the power out as soon as it hit.
"A what?" Stacker asked, having never heard of such a phase as Herman had only heard it in passing.
"Gerfjun Distuber, in theory, the emission from such a device can interfere with the sakuradite that powers the jaegers, but I never used it on anything that large, nor did I think it was possible to create a single blast wave that could knock a machine that large out of commission." Rakshata explained as she had heard all she needed to as they entered the place, that along with the evidence all around her allowed her to realize that this was just like her own experiments with Gerfjun Disturbers back in India, but on a much…much larger scale.
"Can you fix them?" Stacker asked her as they came forward to join them.
"If they were in docks, yes but right now, I can't do a thing." She replied as she knew that there was no way for one to fix this, not unless the source of the wave was taken care of but this was different a while her work always relied on a continuous emission form whatever device she created, this was worked much better than anything she made in that like a standard EMP, it was a time shot deal. Secretly, she wasn't even sure she could get them back online with this limited information.
"So we don't have a machine to fight right now?" Tendo asked her as he looked out the window and saw how the ground crews couldn't even start up Alexander and had to resort to using small, battery-powered torches to find their way around. That also drove home the fact that the base's defenses from their cannons, missile turrets, V.A.R.I.S. cannons, and Hadron guns were also out of commission as there was no way to even get them started up like this.
"Not all of them, Marshall. Gispy doesn't use sakuradite, it's nuclear so it should be good to go." Raleigh step forward to them, getting into the discussion as this was their chance. Stacker didn't look pleased by his statement in the slightest but they both wished to protect the city and the people in it and both also knew that Gispy might just be the only one that could do it.

And that my friends, is where I will end things, troll move I know but it was rather difficult to write this out as is. As you can imagine, more will be revealed next chapter but let's talk about what I revealed in this chapter. Unlike chapter 10, this chapter doesn't focus on Raleigh so much which I hear some of you had a problem with, I didn't feel that way since Raleigh and Mako are the main characters of the first movie and not having them in an important role felt like a disservice to them. I also used that time to show off how the rest of the world is handling things and like the movies, it's not that well as riots have broken out in a shit ton of cities.
I did take the chance to expand on the other characters of Code Geass in Nunnally, Kaguya, and Euphemia to an extent. First, we'll talk about Kaguya and yes, you all hear that right, she and her man are not only happily married but have two children together. I couldn't do much with their looks though as both parents have black hair so I tried to mix up their eye colors and point out that both have clear signs of being half Asian(Japanese) and half Britannian in their facial design.
I tried to show that she is till herself in that she still loves to mess with other and it quite intelligent but it also caring as we see whenever she's with Tianzi in cannon, here that caring nature is directed towards her children and her husband who I gave actual issues with families and the role of the father seeing how he had such poor examples growing up. She loves them all dearly and as she said, the fact that Lelouch feared becoming like Charles is a sign that he's the better man as while Charles only now realizes that he becomes just like his own father in terms of absentee nature and his terrible treatment of his many children, Lelouch was thinking about this before he even becomes a father.
The fact that he was willing to share so much with her is also a measure of how close they are as in CG proper, the only person who can claim to know all there is about him would be C.C. Here that title goes to his partner as she's regularly in his head and his wife, Nunnally, and Suzaku know more about him seeing how they've been close for years but he stills keeps things close to the chest with them.
The last change is that she has gone through puberty and came out the other side gorgeous, especially for a woman that is a mother of two.
The second person was Euphemia who didn't get much these last two chapters but what I did give her is what I imagine she would have grown up to be if she had lived and circumstances were different. She still has that desire to help others and do right by her fellow man but she's matured and wised up to the ways of the world, learning that she can't just make things so because she wishes or because they are right but rather, there are other paths to that goal. She still has her title of princess but has gained her following through her actions and achievements in trying to better the lives for all and sadly, that takes time as new laws won't change how people like law enforcement and prosecutors act overnight. And while her new bill she's trying to push for isn't the same as the laws we have, you have to remember she's in a different world as Britannian society in terms of laws and customs haven't changed all that much from the times of King George III. It was only in the late 1890s that the movement really began to get children out of factories and workhouses, by the time WW1 started, most of the world still made ample use of child labor, so only be constricted to 8 hours per week is not only a great improvement but a calculated move on Euphemia and her allies part to make child labor so impractical that it's dropped entirely. Throwing in free healthcare, food, and an education up till your 16th B-day makes this law, by their standard revolutionary and will no doubt win her a shit ton of support from the lower classes and former numbers.
The last person would be Nunnally who has grown a lot in this story and has come a long way from the blind, cripple girl she once was. I've been hinting at it for a long while now but she finally managed to recover enough to walk around, though she still needs a cane I see that as an absolute win considering once upon a time, her legs couldn't even move. She regained her sight when her father's geass was broken when they used the drift to observe her suppressed memories and unknowingly break the spell. At present, the only ones that are confirmed to know this and everything they uncovered so far would be Lelouch, Nunnally, Viktoriya, Cornelia, and Kaguya. I at first didn't have much of a plan for her as an adult since she doesn't have much in the way of character seeing how one can just say she's a younger, even more, naïve version of Euphie but that wouldn't do, so with her sight now hers once more, I thought she'll do great in medicine.
Shiemi is based off Shiemi Moriyama from Blue Exorcist in both appearance and personality, only older since the girl I based her off is like 15 and this one is in her early 20s so yeah. The only key difference would be that she doesn't have powers and is the daughter of a powerful and wealthy Japanese family. The two children, Rukia and Augustus were hard to name as I wanted to originally name Rukia Marianne or make that her middle name but even though Marianne's sins are still hidden from them, I couldn't bring myself to do it. They also have long names because they are of noble birth of people in European high society tend to have a bit load of names, both in the past and present, especially amongst nobility or royalty. The thing with Nunnally maybe(?) having a crush on Suzaku steams from the fact I have no idea who to pair her with and to mess with her. Same with the whole Chiba/Suzaku thing as it may or may not go anywhere as it won't affect the story much no matter which way it goes.
With the combat test for Gispy, that was a…..it was a mess as yes, Mako didn't hurt anyone nor was she a threat seeing how in cannon, she nearly killed dozens of people and damaged Cherno Alpha, that very graphic viewing of what she could have done proved to be more damaging for both her chances and her reputation as say what you want about all the pilots, but all of them care about protecting the people so seeing what she could have done if she was in an actual jaeger didn't make her many friends. I was surprised that in the film, they didn't have a safer way to test pilots as that would the same as giving someone with 0 flight hours the controls of an actual fighter and letting them figure it out.
Oh, and I transferred Nina's undying hatred for Zero and Lelouch towards the actual monsters of the show, let's see where that takes us.
With the actual fight, what did you all think of it? I tried to keep it entertaining by adding that third OC Kaiju which I have to remind you of, I didn't show the scene with Herman and his prediction of a double event but rather changed it to one of a triple event instead, the only difference being that he didn't think one would occur this soon which should be a picture of what was to come as the story goes. But they did better than the movies as they didn't lose two crews and their machines but they won't be in action for the rest of the story, or at least, not Cherno as those damages can't be fixed overnight. Crimson maybe but they'll need a new crew or to replace some of them due to injuries as no way two can man a three-armed machine. In exchange for this, they managed to kill one and severely wound the other as Otachi now doesn't have an arm, which means no flying for her(I say her since you know….it was pregnant), though that still leaved Leatherback more or less good to go in wrecking Hong Kong. With that whole telepathic message at the end there, I won't say much on that front other than the fact that the precursors and Kaiju are going to be a much….bigger threat than the movies made them out to be.
Reviews:
extremeninja09: Well yes, greed played a role, the other issue was that many countries simply can't afford to keep supporting them. With the fact anyone can die, not even the best trained and experienced still need to eat, sleep, and can bleed and die like anybody else. Same thing here, with the upgrades, those were in dire need of happening and it wasn't as if the countries or unions that built them couldn't afford it seeing how much they spend on knightmares and other war material in CG proper.
Vein Bloodborne: Yes, they are and they'll only going to get more interesting as they fight this newly identified enemy.
RedRat8: Of course they'll be differences, otherwise there wouldn't be all that much flare to this story. Though I do intend for things from the second movie and the upcoming animated series to be used.
Blaze1992: One, to show off how regular folks get along in this world and two, since Raleigh is one of the two MC of the first Pacific Rim movie, I can't just shaft him for the whole story.
Perseus12: Schneizel always has his own goals. With the dog, Suzaku is shown to be horrible with animals so I thought, why not show him to be great with them? Kinda of another foil between him and the man that should have become his worst enemy. Though the thought of a dog…..hmmm, I didn't think of that, give me time to think it over
ewertondragon10: The relationship that Chuck and Lelouch have is similar to the one Lelouch has with Kallen in R1, only that they both think the other is an asshole but can respect them as soldiers and pilots. Add in that Lelouch has rank and experience over him and they won't have a serious fight. And I didn't forget, I purposely left that out as jumping to such power in a bomb from only theories a year prior is too much of leap in my opinion. Also, how would you even place a limiter on that thing in the first place? Wouldn't it just make more sense to make smaller, less powerful ones like how we do with nukes? A fighter can carry a nuclear missile but not one capable of wiping out Tokyo.
omega9028: Thanks for the head's up.
