Ch36 - You Bested Me Pt2
Just like the last time, only this time there would be no beanstalk; but it wouldn't stop us from having the same conversation, even with slightly different wording than before...
Even though we can't climb a beanstalk, it shouldn't stop us from having the same conversation; I turned to look at Killian, who still had his hands bound together with the rope. I smiled softly, before speaking.
"There's no beanstalk in Storybrooke, and I don't think my magic is that powerful; however we shouldn't let that stop us from continuing this recreation"
He nodded in agreement, before speaking.
"As unusual as this town is, I wasn't expecting to find a beanstalk here; and you're right love, we shouldn't let that stop us from continuing because I'm having far too much fun..."
He stopped speaking, and that's when I noticed the smirk on his face; it widened, when he realised I was looking at him. I cleared my throat, before I spoke.
"Of course you are..." I looked at him again, before speaking again. "You ready to continue?"
He nodded, I then grinned; before refocusing, I schooled my features before getting back into character. We walked through the forest, in a somewhat comfortable silence; he walked ahead of me slightly, he spoke using the same words as before.
"Up ahead, we'll find the compass just over this ridge"
I tried my best to adopt the same tone my mom used, before uttering the words she said; changing them slightly.
"Why am I getting the feeling that you're leading me exactly to where Cora wants...and that this is all a trap?"
He looked at me, before he stopped; we came to a clearing; similar to the one back in the enchanted forest, I glanced at him. I guess we'll have to use our imagination for this part, I spoke again.
"I'm guessing that the compass is up there?...So how do we get to it?"
He looked at me, before speaking.
"It's not the climb you need to worry about, it's the giant at the top"
I walked forward slightly, before turning around; I shoved him forward, and we walked the same distance as we had that day. If we were going to be accurate, we'd need the cuffs; that had allowed us to climb the beanstalk, I guess I'll have to conjure them too.
I closed my eyes, and imagined the cuffs; that's when I heard Killian laugh softly, he inspected his wrist. He smiled softly, before he turned to me; he spoke, laughter in his voice as he did.
"Ah yes, the cuff that allowed me to climb the beanstalk..." He glanced at my wrist, before titling his head in confusion. He spoke again. "Where did you get this?"
I grinned, before speaking.
"Magic...We might as well, keep this as accurate as possible; and just because we aren't going to climb the beanstalk, I figured it wouldn't hurt to have the cuffs again...Shall we continue?"
He grinned, before walking ahead of me again; and when we reached the spot where the beanstalk should have been, I tried to convey the same emotion I used that day.
"It's so much more freakier than I remember from the story..."
He didn't acknowledge me, but he spoke anyway.
"Well, the compass awaits; shall we..."
He moved to walk ahead again, I then spoke.
"Wait so these beans, create portals; so why not pick one, and go home. Why the compass?"
He turned towards me, before speaking.
"Because, there aren't anymore beans; whatever story you may think you know my dear, is most certainly wrong"
I scoffed slightly, before speaking.
"There was a guy named Jack and a cow, and something about an evil giant; with the treasure and a golden goose...or a harp"
He looked at me, before speaking.
"Sounds like a lovely tale, but it's a little more gruesome than that...the giants grew the beans; but rather than use them for good they used them to plunder all the lands. Jack and his men, fought a terrible war defeating all but one of the evil giants; the beans were destroyed by the giants...as they died"
I looked at him, pretending to be stunned; that Jack was real to, he smirked at me before continuing speaking.
"If they couldn't have the magic, then nobody could; very bad form..."
I looked at him again, before speaking.
"Evil giants, who made magic portal beans...why doesn't anyone go up there and grow some more?"
He spoke.
"Because one giant survived, the most strongest and terrible of them all; now we have to get past him..."
I scoffed again, before speaking.
"To get the magic compass?..."
He smirked, before speaking.
"Indeed, now the treasure remains; and amongst it, is the compass. Now it will guide us to your land, Cora has the means to open a portal; with the wardrobe ashes, but she can't find your land without the compass...once we get it, we'll steal the ashes and then we're on our way home"
I look at him, with what was my best inquisitive expression; I remembered what Mulan said, I cleared my throat and then spoke.
"How do I know, that you're not just using me to get the compass for Cora?"
He tilted his head, before answering my question.
"You're far safer company, all I need is a ride back; and that's where allegiance to whomever gets me there first"
I kept my tone as serious as I could, before speaking.
"Right, then we better start climbing..."
He spoke again.
"Right so, I failed to mention; that the giant enchanted the beanstalk, to repel intruders"
I looked at him, frustration clear on my face; as I spoke.
"Right...So how do we get up there?"
He looked up, as if he was looking at the Beanstalk. He then spoke.
"I've got a counter spell from Cora..." He then gestured to his wrists. He spoke again. "If you'd be so kind..."
I stepped forward, just like my mom had done; I untied his wrists, he leaned forward slightly before speaking.
"Thank you Milady"
He winked, and I stepped back; as he took off the rags and scarf he was wearing, he then gestured to his wrist that held the cuff. He spoke again.
"I've got one more of these, Cora was supposed to accompany me; so I guess you're just going to have to take her place..."
I stared at him, remembering that he said that to me, my mom, Mulan and Aurora. But since it was just us, he changed it slightly; which was fine, as it would make the next part easier. Well kind of... I closed my eyes and conjured up a similar sleeping powder, kind of like the one that Mulan gave me that day.
I spoke again.
"Sleeping powder, made from poppies; the giant has to inhale it"
He looked at me, before speaking.
"In this world, we're slaves to time; and it's running out, so in other words tick tock"
I moved closer to him, unzipping my jacket sleeve; staying mildly frustrated, just as I had that day. He had the other cuff in his hand, ready to place it on my wrist.
He looked at me, before tilting his head again; I knew that he couldn't say, that he was hoping it would be me as we were alone this time. So I looked at him, before speaking again.
"Just get on with it..." whilst giving him my wrist.
He spoke again, while he was placing my hand on his shoulder.
"Put your hand there..." He patted his shoulder, I then gently placed my hand where he gestured to; he then spoke again. "That's a good girl, this will allow you to climb"
I looked at him, and he smirked; before speaking once more.
"Now, there are other dangers; thankfully, you've got me to protect you..." He lifted his stump, and then looked at me; before, he spoke again.
"I can't climb one handed, now can I?"
I lifted his hook out of his satchel, I then gave it to him; and watched as he clicked it into place. I spoke again.
"Don't think I'm not taking my eyes off you for a second"
He smirked, before answering.
"I'd despair if you did..."
I looked at him, before giving him my best annoyed look; I then gave him his satchel and the sleeping powder, which he placed into his satchel. I then spoke.
"Let's go"
I moved to walk away, but then I felt him grab me; he smiled softly, before breaking character. He spoke.
"If we can't climb a beanstalk, how do you suggest we proceed?"
I grinned, before speaking.
"Well, we could find some sort of uphill trail; you know to simulate climbing"
He nodded in agreement, we then continued walking; until we came across the perfect trail. It was slightly uphill, which would be perfect; I then turned and faced Killian, who smiled at me.
I spoke.
"This is perfect, don't you think?"
He nodded, before getting back into character; we started to walk uphill, that's when he spoke.
"First beanstalk?..."
I gave him the same look, that I did back then. That's when he continued speaking.
"Well, you never forget your first; you know most men, would find your silence off putting but I love a challenge..."
I quirked an eyebrow at him, before speaking.
"I'm concentrating..."
He scoffed, before speaking.
"Oh...you're afraid..."
I looked at him, before speaking again.
"Afraid...?"
He stared at me, before he spoke.
"Yes, you're afraid to talk; to reveal yourself, to trust me. Things would go a lot smoother if you do"
I scoffed lightly again, before answering him.
"You should be used to people, not trusting you..."
He interrupted me.
"Oh the pirate thing?...Well I don't need you to share, you're something of an open book..."
I smiled internally, before speaking again.
"Oh am I?..."
He nodded, before speaking.
"Quite, let's see...You needed to do this, because you were motivated; you need to get back to a child"
I looked at him again, before speaking once again.
"That's not perception..."
He smirked, before continuing speaking.
"You don't want to abandon him, the way that you were abandoned..."
I tried to look as stunned as possible; before I spoke.
"What's that?..."
He grinned, before speaking again.
"Like I said, open book..."
I interrupted him.
"How would you know that?"
He turned to look at me, with the same look; he used back then. He then spoke again.
"I spent many years in Neverland, home of the lost boys; they all share the same look in their eyes, the look you get when you've been left alone..."
I cleared my throat again, before speaking.
"Yeah well, my world ain't Neverland..."
He looked at me once more, before speaking again.
"An orphans still an orphan...Love has been all too rare in your life hasn't it?"
I stared at him, he took a breath; before he uttered the same words he did then.
"Have you even been in love before?"
I shook my head, before speaking.
"No, I've never been in love..."
That's definitely not the case now, but I need to stay in character; so I took a breath, before we continued our uphill climb. We walked for the same amount of time it took to reach the top of the beanstalk, we stopped for a few minutes; I knew that we couldn't replicate the level of destruction caused by the giants at the top of the beanstalk, so I broke character.
I spoke.
"So, we can't...well I can't replicate the level of destruction caused by the giants, but there's fallen trees...So if I remember correctly, we jumped off the ledge; and then we looked around. So do we just go from there?"
Killian nodded, before speaking.
"Yes love, we might as well finish this recreation off the right way"
I nodded, before getting into character again; I spoke.
"What happened here?"
He glanced at me, then at our surroundings; he then spoke.
"This is where the final battle was..." He glanced down at my hand, and that's when I remembered that I cut it when we jumped from the beanstalk.
There was no way I was cutting myself again, so I smiled softly; before speaking.
"Yeah I know, my hand isn't actually cut; but it doesn't mean you can't be a gentleman and bandage it..."
He smiled at me in understanding, I then shifted back into character; that's when he spoke.
"Your hand, it's cut...Let me help..."
I glanced at it, pretending that it was cut. I spoke.
"What?... it's fine"
I tried pulling away, before he reached for it; he then spoke.
"No it's not..."
I interrupted him, using the same tone of voice I did back then.
"So now you're gonna be a gentleman?"
He stared at me, before speaking.
"Giants can smell blood, and I'm always a gentleman"
I scoffed, my eyes widened; as I remembered what happened next, but before I could say anything that's when he spoke breaking character as he did.
"This was the exact moment I opened my flask, and poured rum on your wound. But since you're not actually injured, it would be a bloody waste of rum. Let's just skip to the part where I bandage your hand"
I nodded in agreement, there were better uses for rum. I smiled, before he continued. As he spoke, he began to bandage my hand; in the very same way he did then.
"Here's the plan, we wait for the giant to fall asleep; and when he does, we'll sneak past him into his cave. That's where the treasures are, and that's where the compass lies..."
As he was finishing speaking, my heart stopped slightly; as he used his mouth to secure the scarf around my hand, just as he did that day. It took all of my self restraint, not to break character again; and kiss him senseless.
I cleared my throat slightly, before speaking.
"And then?"
He smiled at me, before he spoke.
"Then we run like hell..."
I stared at him, remembering what I said. I then spoke again.
"I don't have time to wait for a giant to fall asleep...the powder I have, we need to use it; we need to knock him out..."
He looked at me, before speaking.
"That's riskier"
I interrupted him again.
"Than waiting for a giant to fall asleep when we need him too?"
His gaze met mine, before he spoke again.
"Point taken...oh you're a tough lass..." he reached into his satchel; lifting out the knockout powder.
He stared at me, before speaking again.
"You'd make a hell of a pirate"
I stared at his forearm, which still bore the tattoo that he got for Milah; I swallowed before speaking again. Remembering this part of the conversation well.
"Who's Milah, in the tattoo?"
He stared at me, in the very same way he did then. He then spoke.
"Someone from long ago..."
I spoke.
"Where is she?"
He looked at me, before speaking.
"She's gone..."
I uttered the name, we both despised.
"Gold...Rumplestilkskin...He took more than your hand from you didn't he? That's why you want to kill him?"
He gave me the same look, he did then; he then spoke.
"For someone who's never been in love, you're quite perspective aren't you?"
I smiled softly, before speaking.
"Maybe I was...once"
He smiled softly, before breaking character again; he moved towards me, pulling me into his arms. I had a feeling, that he probably wanted to end our little recreation; and that was fine, so we stood like that for a few minutes.
I broke the silence, slightly pulling away from his embrace; he stared at me, as I spoke.
"I guess that's as far as we can go, because we don't actually have the compass; and we can't recreate the giant's treasure room either, I also can't put you in shackles. But it was fun, you know reminiscing..."
He stared at me, before speaking.
"Emma love, it was perfect; every little detail was exactly how it was then. You my love, are amazing; you thought of everything, and I know that last moment was probably difficult for you and I'm sorry if my words brought up any unpleasant memories"
I shook my head, before answering.
"You're welcome, I'm glad you enjoyed it; and you were right, accuracy was key to this whole thing. Back on the beanstalk you said that I had never been in love before, you were right...I mean I loved Neal, but it wasn't true love; because it turns out that my true love, was a devilishly handsome, leather wearing pirate. And all it took for me to realise that was, climbing a beanstalk, going to Neverland, breaking a few curses, being trapped behind an ice wall, defeating a snow queen, and going to the underworld. I mean who else can say that their love is Greek god approved?..."
He laughed softly at that, he then focused his gaze on mine; as I spoke again.
"So I guess what I'm trying to say is that, I love you..."
He stared at me, before pulling me into his arms again; he spoke softly.
"I love you too Emma, more than you'll ever know"
I grinned, before speaking.
"Oh, I think I know Pirate..."
He smirked, before leaning down slightly; his lips inches from mine. I whined softly in protest, I heard him chuckle slightly; I spoke, in a slightly teasing tone.
"Shut up and kiss me..."
He lifted me slightly, before speaking; in a tone very similar to my own.
"As you wish, Princess..."
I grinned again, before his lips met mine...
