Hello there everyone, I'm back with the next chapter for you all! The reactions on the last chapter were sort of mixed, so I'm looking forward to you all reading this one and I hope you enjoy it more! I had a great time writing this chapter, as we're getting closer and closer to the big Dawsey wedding, so hopefully you guys like it as well!

That's pretty much all I've got for now, I hope you all have a nice Thursday and a great rest of your week. And I'll see you all next time.

ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTEEN

Casey stood back by the counter in the common room of the fire house, loading up his plate with a second serving of the large lunch that Boden had treated them to while the rest of the firehouse sat around the tables in front of him, everyone hoping to enjoy as much as their meal as they could before they got called out again.

"Case, you mind bringing me another piece of bread while you're up?" Severide asked from his spot beside Shay, his words someone hard to understand with the food he was putting into his mouth. But Casey heard enough to give him a nod back, the firefighter placing another roll onto his plate before he started heading back towards his chair.

"You're disgusting." Shay replied towards her friend, disgust written across her face as Matt got back to his seat at the head of the long table. "Can you please shut your mouth?"

Severide merely shot her a look back in response before he took another large bite of the shredded up meat on his plate, Matt then handing the bread to him once he'd sat down. "Thanks man." He responded after swallowing, Casey giving him a quick nod before they all went back to enjoying their delicious, ordered-in meal. Though it didn't take long for the blonde paramedic to speak up once more, as Severide continued to shovel too much food into his mouth at once.

"Kelly, you need to slow down, you're gonna choke." Shay berated him. "And I'm not giving you the heimlich if you do."

"That's fine, Dawson or Casey will do it." He responded smugly, placing his fork down so he could get a quick sip of his water.

"Yeah, I'm not so sure about that." Gabby replied from her place across the table from him, Matt doing what he could to hide his smile as Kelly shot her a look.

"You can't blame the guy for being hungry, Shay." Otis piped up from further down the table. "This food is insane. Wish we got stuff like this all the time." He continued on, his words prompting Severide to flash Shay a winning smile as the paramedic rolled her eyes, before Otis' attention moved towards Casey. "You sure you and Dawson don't want to get married more often, Lieutenant? It would help us out." He spoke, causing a few laughs to erupt from around the room while Matt shook his head in amusement, everyone well aware of the fact that the only reason they were having this incredible meal today was because of the upcoming wedding between 51's Truck Lieutenant and their PIC.

Though neither Casey nor Dawson asked for it, Boden had decided to treat them and the house to a large, catered-in barbecue lunch today. One full of a few different meat options, as well as all the sides you could even imagine, along with a few pies that were stowed away in the fridge for later. He had certainly gone above and beyond, and done too much if you were to ask Matt or Gabby, as they knew all of this couldn't have been cheap. But they were grateful regardless that their Chief insisted on doing this for them, as a celebration of sorts for their upcoming wedding.

"Yeah, I think once is enough. But maybe we can find some other way to have this a little more often, Otis." Casey spoke back, the firefighter nodding with a slight grin as the group went back to enjoying the rest of their meal, people occasionally getting up to get seconds while Casey, Dawson, Severide, and Shay stayed in their seats at the end of the table.

But while they sat there and talked, it didn't go unnoticed by Matt how his fiancée would occasionally reach over to take some bites of food off his plate, Casey seeing her movements out of the corner of his eye. And while at first he just let it go, after the fourth or fifth time he started glancing her way in between one of Severide's stories about their call this morning as he raised his eyebrows in Gabby's direction, seeing her catch his gaze before a knowing smirk appeared over her lips.

"I thought you said you didn't want anymore." He spoke once Kelly had finished, his words referring to moments ago when he'd offered to get Gabby more to eat while he was up, and she said she was fine.

"I don't." She responded simply, Casey letting out a soft chuckle as she swiped another bite.

"You know, I can still get you more. I don't mind." He offered once more, Gabby shaking her head lightly as her smirk turned into a bright grin.

"It's okay, I'm full." She told him after another bite, Matt laughing once more before he nodded, the man simply letting her continue to take his food while he went back to listening to Shay and Severide.

Though their conversations soon were cut short by the sound of the bells ringing out above their heads, a few immediate groans being heard around the room while they waited to see who was being sent out, those sounds soon dissipating when only 61 was called to assist at a car accident.

"Duty calls." Shay spoke as she placed her napkin down on the table before getting up from her seat, Gabby mimicking her action after taking a quick sip of her drink.

"Seems like you're saved for now, boys." Dawson told the table, a few of them cheering a bit before going back to their food, while Gabby moved behind Casey to get out of the garage, the paramedic pressing a kiss to the back of his head before walking past him.

"Be safe out there, babe." Matt called, Gabby giving him that signature Dawson grin accompanied by a wink, before she disappeared with Shay out into the garage, the Truck Lieutenant's eyes lingering there for a few seconds longer.

"Dawson seems to be in a good mood today." Severide spoke up, Matt blinking a few times before glancing towards his friend, seeing a sheepish smirk written over his face as he leaned back in his seat.

"She is." Casey agreed, downing some of his water while Kelly continued to eye him. "...Why wouldn't she be?" He pushed once he noticed Severide's stares, the other Lieutenant merely shrugging.

"No reason, I just figured she might've been a bit nervous or something." He told him, Matt slowly started to understand what he was referring to before he nodded. "You know, those pre-marriage nerves, since the big day is almost here." Severide continued on, not missing the way a soft smile started to grow across his friend's face, like just the mention of their wedding made him the happiest man in the world. "You and Dawson are getting hitched in, what…"

"48 hours." Casey answered for him, Kelly matching his grin as he nodded. "Give or take an hour."

"Yeah, that sounds about right. We're getting close to you being locked down." He commented, Matt unable to stop himself from rolling his eyes in response. "Which is why I'm kind of surprised you two came to shift today… I thought there'd be a lot of last minute wedding stuff you'd have to take care of, I don't think any of us were expecting you all here today." Severide mused, Matt leaning his head back and forth while making himself comfortable in his chair.

"We thought about it, but honestly there's not much left for us to do." He breathed out, lifting his leg up to rest against his knee while he continued. "We've gotten everything finalized, and ready to go… We've done our last fittings, and triple checked everything with the church, and the catering, and all of that. All the big stuff is done and ready, and whatever little things are left Camila's got them handled." Matt explained, Kelly smiling softly before he nodded. "So there really wasn't anything we could be doing right now anyway, and besides with as long as our honeymoon's about to be I figured it was best to go ahead and work today… I've gotta pay that off somehow." He joked, Severide chuckling a bit back at him. "But no, really we both just wanted to come in today. A little bit of normalcy before the big day, you know." He finished, earning a knowing nod from his friend before Herrmann's voice hit his ears.

"You're feeling alright, Casey? You and Dawson?" The older firefighter asked him, Matt glancing his way to find Herrmann, along with Otis, Mouch, and Cruz all watching him and Severide. "It's been awhile, but I remember how I was before marrying Cindy- I was a wreck. No matter how sure I was." He joked, Casey chuckling softly before he nodded.

"I can understand that, but we're feeling good." He responded with a soft grin. "I'm ready… A little nervous, I can't lie. But they're good nerves. We're really excited." Casey continued on honestly, earning a knowing look from his friend.

"Yeah, that sounds about right. For the wedding being just a couple days away." Herrmann replied, while leaning back in his seat.

"So no second thoughts, Case?" Severide questioned with a shit-eating grin on his face, Matt giving him a rather unimpressed look as a few men around the table chuckled. "What? It's a fair question. He's about to be legally tied to another person for the rest of his life."

Those next words prompted Casey to lean forward and smack the back of Severide's head, the laughs from their friends getting louder as Kelly brought his hand up to rub along his neck.

"Ow! What the hell?"

"Severide, you know some people actually look forward to that, yeah?" Herrmann said with a laugh, Kelly waving him off with his free hand while Matt returned to his previous spot.

"I didn't realize you could smack that hard." Kelly mused, Casey fighting off a chuckle as he knew he hadn't done anything more than a tap.

"Well you kind of had that one coming, Lieutenant." Cruz told him, Severide angling towards him before glaring his way.

"Yeah, if there's anything Casey's sure about, it's Dawson. We all know that." Otis answered for him, Matt smirking knowingly as Kelly huffed out a breath.

"See?" Casey spoke, Severide glaring a bit while he stretched out his back.

"You know I'm just messing around, Casey. Believe me, I've seen it almost since the beginning, I know what all Gabby means to you." He told him, his voice a little more sincere as Matt's face softened. "And trust me, there's no doubting the guy who spent his entire bachelor party blabbering to every person we saw about how in love he is with his fiancée." Severide added on with a smirk, Casey ducking his head with a grin as loud laughs came from their friends, because of just how true Kelly's words were.

A lot of that night the week before last was hazy, at best, for Casey, as he'd consumed more alcohol in those few hours at his bachelor party than he had in a long time. But one of the things that stuck with him was just how often he'd spoke of his girl throughout the night, to anyone who asked about her. And sometimes to those who hadn't, it didn't matter. Whenever the opportunity arose, he took the chance to praise his fiancée as much as he could. Everything from how smart and successful she was, to how great of a paramedic she is, and how lucky he was to be marrying her, before finishing with how beautiful and sexy she was once more alcohol had hit his system, Matt didn't shy away from talking about her almost the entire night.

But despite Severide's teasing, he wasn't ashamed of it. Because even though most of his words were prompted by alcohol, they were all true. His girl was smart, and successful. She was an amazing paramedic, and he was more than lucky to be marrying her. And she certainly was very, very beautiful. Every single one of those things were true, and he'd never regret making sure everyone knew it. Even the strangers he knew he'd never see again.

"I swear, at those last couple bars every minute you were finding someone else to tell about Gabby." Severide continued on as Matt lifted his head. "It was like a woman-repellent, when you're surrounded by the guy who's so grossly in love with his fiancée."

"Well, Sev I'm sorry you weren't able to pick up anyone at my bachelor party, but I can't say I'm all that upset about not being approached by women when we were out to celebrate me getting married." He told him dryly, Severide waving them off once more as he huffed out another breath.

"Yeah, I wasn't really thinking about you." He spoke, Herrmann laughing loudly as he shook his head.

"Oh don't be like, Severide. We all know you had a good time." Herrmann replied, Kelly doing his best to hide his smirk before he nodded.

"Yeah, yeah I did. It was a good night… Even with Mr. Dawson's drunk blubbering." Severide said with a smirk, Matt chuckling lightly while his hands came up to cup the back of his head.

But before anyone could respond to Kelly's teasing, the sound of the bells ringing out once more gained their attention, the men in the room listening intently as Truck and Squad were called out.

Truck 81. Squad 3. 231 South Willis Street, backup needed at a multiple car pile up.

Casey's eyebrows furrowed as he listened to the address that was rattled off, his gaze meeting Kelly's before seeing the same uncertainty written across his features.

"Isn't that…"

"Where the girls went, yeah." Matt replied before they all started to get up. "Sounds like they just need some back up." He added on, Severide nodding in agreement while the men of Truck and Squad began to jog out towards the garage and towards their respective rigs, all the firefighters moving quickly before heading out to go meet up with their medics.

Casey secured his helmet onto his head after jumping down from the rig, the chaos around them a lot to take in as 51's firefighters approached the scene. There were four cars in a line just a few feet back from the traffic light, the position of all of them telling Casey that the first two were likely involved in a fender bender, and the other two then hit the car in front of them before they were able to stop. Nothing from it looked too bad, but that wasn't where the issue was. And Casey was sure that's not why they called for backup, but instead they were sent out here because of the car currently rammed into the driver's side door of the second car in line.

There was no way to know for sure, but based on the other vehicle that was currently out in the middle of the road, clearly hit in some sort of collision, Casey had a gut feeling that the car that had t-boned that other driver was the one that made this relatively easy accident so much worse.

It was that, and the fact that the driver of that car was yelling at the Lieutenant on scene as he and a few of his men tried to help him out of his vehicle.

"Sir! Sir, you need to calm down." The Lieutenant, who Casey recognized to be a man named Kenny Rivera, an officer down at Firehouse 89 a few blocks away, tried to settle this defiant man. But he was wanting none of it.

Drawing in a steady breath, Casey started to make his way over to Rivera and a few of the other men, his eyes continuing to look around the scene as he saw more firefighters working on the car that had been hit rather hard on the driver's side door, their quick movements telling Casey that there was likely still someone, if not multiple people, trapped inside that vehicle. Which was never a good sign. But before he could do anything to help, he needed to speak with his fellow Lieutenant, and find out what the best course of action was.

As he got closer, he couldn't help the way his eyes drifted around the scene, Casey looking for someone in particular before he finally found her, Gabby hidden from view at first as she was a few steps behind Rivera, her and Shay both looking over a patient. Once he saw her, it was like he released some tension he didn't realize he'd been holding, as when they got the call to come help assist here he wasn't sure what to expect. But from what he could tell, her and Shay were both fine.

"Rivera." Casey called as he came around the back of the vehicle, the sound of his voice gaining not only Kenny's attention but Dawson's as well, his girl glancing back at him and giving him a soft smile before she went back to work, while Rivera stepped away and left a few of his firefighters with the irate man. "What do we got?"

"Casey, hey." He greeted, shaking the firefighter's hand before they both looked out towards the scene. "I'm kind of surprised they called you and Squad both, but we'll take all the help we can get… This was just your standard accident. That second car there wasn't able to stop in time and rear-ended the car in front of them. Then it just sort of created a ripple effect, but everyone was fine." Rivera started, Casey nodding in understanding as some of his men and Squad moved closer to the scene. "But then this nutcase came flying through the intersection, wouldn't slow down." He said, nodding towards the driver who was still yelling at the firemen. "He was swerving around, trying to miss the roadblocks and he ended up hitting an older couple over there," He said, pointing to the one damaged car out in the middle of the road. "Before he rammed into this car that was already in the accident."

"Is everyone okay?" Casey asked first, Rivera grimacing for a moment before he nodded.

"Yes and no… Most of them were just shaken, and might have a few bumps and bruises. Luckily the older couple in the car he hit first were fine, they've already been taken to the hospital. And mostly everyone involved in the original accident is fine, they're all getting checked out… Except for one guy." He told him, Casey nodding as he was beginning to understand that his original assumptions had been correct. "The driver of the second car this guy hit, he's still stuck in there. Trapped against his driver side door… He got wedged in there pretty tight, and the damage from the impact has made it impossible for us to get him out through the other side." Kenny relayed to him, Matt stepping around the back of the vehicle to get a better look. "Dawson already got in there and got a brace on him, and tried to wrap up some of his injuries from getting hit, but I'd like to get him out of there sooner rather than later."

"Want us to get the car moved?" Casey asked, noticing that Rivera's rig was up towards the front of the accident, helping to block traffic. "So your guys can get him out?"

"That would be great, yeah." Kenny agreed, Casey giving him a nod before he turned back towards Severide.

"Squad, get the chains and move your rig around… I need you to get this black car hooked up and move it out of the way." He ordered, Kelly giving him a nod while his men were already hurrying back to the rig. "We've got a victim trapped in this other car, we need to get him out."

"On it, Casey."

Casey and Rivera both moved out of the way so Squad could start to do their job, all while the uncooperative driver who caused this was still resisting help from a few of Rivera's guys. Though they had at least managed to get him out of the vehicle.

"What's the deal with that guy?" Matt asked while Cruz started to hook up the back of the car. "Our reckless driver."

Rivera blew out a sigh, the man shaking his head while he reached up to hold onto his radio.

"Honestly I'm not really sure. We've been trying to get him looked at, but he's not wanting it… I think he's tweaked out on something, I don't know. But we've got some uniforms on the way." He explained, Casey nodding in agreement just before the driver started yelling once more.

"Hey! That's my car!" He screamed once he finally noticed what Squad was doing, as they'd just secured the last chain before he ran around to the back of the vehicle. "This is my car, take this shit off."

"Sir, we have to move your vehicle." Rivera tried once more, stepping away from Casey while waving Shay and Dawson over. "There's a man trapped by your car, and we have to help him. Why don't you just let our paramedics look you over, make sure you're okay then we'll get all this sorted out." He said, his voice remaining calm despite the irritation he felt towards this man.

"You're gonna mess my car up!" He continued to scream, all but ignoring everything Kenny had just said as he tried to push his way past him. "I'm going home."

"Sir, you can't go home." Rivera held his ground, being able to stop this man as they were now standing a few feet from the car. "You were in a car accident, so our paramedics have to make sure you're alright." He repeated himself, while he gestured for Dawson to come a little closer. Though with as upset as this man was, Casey couldn't help but wish he'd called one of the other medics over to help. "They'll take you over to the ambulance."

"I don't need to get checked out, I'm fine." He bit out, wanting none of their help.

"Sir-" Gabby tried while coming up beside him.

"I said I'm fine!" He yelled, using his forearm to shove Gabby back away from him.

He didn't push all that hard, and Shay was able to steady her rather easily from her spot behind her, but it was more than enough for Casey to intervene as the second that man put his hands on Gabby, he saw red.

"Hey!" Matt shouted, stomping over with a purpose as his voice held nothing but anger, the driver glaring his way before he opened his mouth to respond. But he never got the chance to as Casey continued. "You listen to me, you're gonna sit down and shut up, and let some paramedics take a look at you. But you are never going to touch them again, do you hear me?" He bellowed, seeing this man become more and more angry by the second. But Casey didn't care. "You caused part of this accident, so you're not going anywhere until the police get here and talk to you. So be quiet, and let us all do our jobs." He finished, before giving the signal to Cruz to pull the car back.

But the driver didn't care about that, his eyes having gone wide ever since Matt mentioned the police. "...You called the cops?" He questioned, his own words seeming to have made him nervous as it was becoming more and more clear that he didn't want the cops here. Which from their years of experience, every first responder standing there knew that wasn't a good sign.

"Sir…" Casey tried, but he didn't get the chance to say anything else before the man bolted, the first responders watching as he ran straight to the first car that got rear-ended in the accident, the same one that had been vacant for a while before he jumped in, trying to use that vehicle as a way to escape.

Though Rivera didn't seem to want that to happen, as within seconds he ran after him.

"Rivera, let him go!" Casey yelled, knowing that this wasn't a good idea.

They tried to never chase suspects, not ones like this at least. Ones that posed a threat. Because as far as Matt was concerned, he did, and it wasn't their job to try and stop him. Casey didn't want anyone else to get hurt because of this man.

But Kenny didn't listen to him, as he fought against the man trying to get the door shut.

"Dammit." Matt huffed out before running after them, his instincts kicking in as he needed to try and help the other Lieutenant. "Severide, call Main. Tell them to send more backup!" He yelled back while hurrying towards the two men.

By the time Casey got over there the man had already managed to get the car started, while Rivera was fighting with him, trying not to let him get the car into gear.

"Rivera, man-"

"Casey, go to the other side and try and get a hold of the gear shift!" He ordered during the struggle. "We can't let this maniac leave."

Matt winced as he listened to Rivera's words, knowing that wasn't the smartest thing to do in this situation. But it was also clear that Kenny wasn't going to back down. That he was stopping this man from leaving one way or another, and Casey couldn't let him do it on his own.

"Alright, alright." He agreed, shaking his head roughly before quickly trying to figure out the best course of action.

It would take him too long to go around the back of all the vehicles, meaning the quickest, and really only way around was to just walk in front of this car. Which certainly didn't feel like the smartest thing to do under the circumstances, but he didn't really have another choice as he heard Rivera ask for his help once more, Matt huffing out a breath before he started moving.

He put a few yards of space between him and the hood of the vehicle before he started moving around the front. Though he barely got a step or two around before he heard Rivera start to shout once more. But it wasn't to Casey, it was to the crazy man in the driver's seat.

"Hey, don't! Stop! Stop!" He shouted just seconds before the man floored it, Rivera falling down to the pavement while Casey's eyes widened, the car now coming straight at him as the distance he'd put between himself and the vehicle was now gone.

"Matt!"

Gabby's scream was all he could really hear before the car collided with his body, Matt barely able to jump up just before he made impact, his limbs moving faster than his mind as he'd managed to get his legs out of the way and lessen the severity of the hit while that man ran right into him without a second thought.

His body landed harshly against the hood of the car before banging into the windshield, the force of his weight no doubt crushing the glass in before the quick movement of the vehicle caused Casey to fall off and collide painfully with the ground, his helmet saving him from hitting his head.

It all went by in a flash, feeling like not even a second between when he got hit to when he was on the ground, Matt now hunched over on his stomach as he immediately started to feel some pain throughout his body. He could tell he was out of it, that much he did know as he didn't even see the guy continuing to swerve before hitting right into the side of House 89's firetruck, Rivera's firefighters hurrying towards him and all but ripping him from the car, before pinning him down until the cops came.

Casey has missed all of that, the loud buzzing in his head making it hard to focus as he continued writhing around on the unforgiving pavement.

"Matt! Matt!"

Gabby's voice hit his ears, Casey having to shake his head a bit before he started to get up, the feeling of hands on him soon making it hard for him to move.

"Don't move, don't." Gabby told him as she crouched down on the ground beside him, Shay mimicking her position on his other side while Severide stood behind him.

"Severide, call Boden." Shay told him, the Squad Lieutenant glancing towards his friend for one last moment before he nodded, Kelly stepping away to contact their boss and let him know what happened.

"Matt…" Gabby spoke once more with her hand on his back, feeling his somewhat quick yet steady breathing beneath her hand as she tried to look him over, Dawson doing all she could to push down the worry and hurt she was feeling right now and focus on him. "Matt, can you tell me what hurts?"

"Everything." He coughed out, Shay biting back a smile at the tone in his voice as Gabby let out a heavy breath. "But I'm okay." He replied before slowly pushing himself up.

"Don't move-"

"I'm fine, I'm okay." He assured her after coughing once more, Gabby reaching out to help him once she realized he wasn't going to stop, as between her and Shay they were able to get him up on his shins. "God, that hurt." He groaned, the slow movement making him feel every bit of pain even more while he forced himself to take some deep breaths.

"What hurts, Matt?" Gabby asked him again, reaching down to open his jacket before she gently started to feel around his chest and torso for any obvious signs of injury. Thankfully, she found none. But what helped relieve her concern even more was how he didn't really react when she touched him, which told her that he wasn't feeling any significant pain in those areas. At least not anything more than what the rest of his body was feeling, which was a good sign.

"My side, mostly." He finally told her, Dawson nodding as her eyes moved back down towards his abdomen. Though this time when she did, she noticed something she hadn't seen before. Something that made her throat tighten just a little bit as she saw the bit of blood that was dripping down his sleeve onto the pavement. "And my arm is probably what's hurting the most."

Dawson swallowed thickly before she nodded, her eyes raking over him once more while she adjusted her positioning on the ground to crouch down in front of him. "Alright, babe well your arm is bleeding so that's probably part of why it hurts." She explained to him, her voice soft as the term of endearment slipped in without her even noticing. But Casey would never complain as he felt himself starting to regain more and more of his surroundings, and truly understand what happened.

And he couldn't say it was a great feeling, but he was okay. For the most part, he was fine. Which was all he could ask for after getting hit head on by a vehicle.

"Does anything else hurt besides your side and your arm?" Gabby continued to ask him while she slowly worked on getting his jacket off, Matt wincing when he felt a quick, sharp pain move through his forearm before he shook his head. "Your legs don't hurt or anything? You can feel everything?" She spoke, her mind racing as she tried to get through all the routine questions.

"Trust me, I can." He assured her with a wince, while slowly stretching out his back. "My legs are fine, I think I got up enough before he hit me so they didn't get caught."

"Yeah, I saw you got some nice air under you, Casey." Shay joked to diffuse some of the heaviness around the situation, Matt letting out one dry chuckle as a slight smile pulled on his lips.

But Gabby wasn't really in the mood for messing around, as her one and only focus was making sure she didn't miss anything, and that her fiancé truly was alright.

"What about Rivera, is he okay?" Casey asked after a moment, while Gabby removed his helmet before continuing on with his jacket.

"He's fine." Shay replied, nodding back to the other Lieutenant who was now talking to the police, who must've shown up sometime in the last minute or so.

"And the guy trapped in the car? What about him?"

"81 and Squad are working on getting him out right now, you don't need to worry Casey." Shay promised, while reaching down into their bag for some gauze. "Everyone else has got it covered, let us just focus on you for a bit." She told him, Matt nodding with another grimace as Gabby finally managed to get his jacket off of him, Dawson soon matching the look on his face while she took in the state of his arm.

His skin was definitely scratched up, Gabby already seeing a few chunks of glass sticking in his arm, which is no doubt what was causing all of this bleeding. But overall, it didn't look too bad. It certainly could've been worse, which is what Dawson had to keep reminding herself.

"I think I hit my arm into the windshield." Casey spoke up when she had yet to say anything, as he was beginning to see just how worried Gabby was. She was trying to hide it and do her job, but now that he had gathered his bearings he was able to see clearly that she was upset after what just happened. And given that she'd just seen him get hit by a car, he couldn't blame her, as he knew he'd be handling it a lot worse than she was if the roles were reversed. "Some glass must've gone down my sleeve, I don't know… But that has to be where it came from." He continued on, Gabby giving him a nod before she reached into their bag for her tweezers.

"We need to get you to med, but I'm gonna try and pull some of this out first… Unless you'd rather have a doctor do it."

"You can do it." He replied softly without an ounce of hesitation, Dawson meeting his eyes for a second before she nodded.

"Alright… Shay, have the ointment and bandages ready, I don't want any of this to get infected." She told her partner, the blonde nodding as she was all ready to go. "And once we get this wrapped, we're taking you to the hospital." Gabby continued, her words clearly towards her fiancé this time while her eyes were focused on his bleeding arm. Some of which had already gotten on her, but that was the least of her worries.

"Okay.. But I'm not a priority though, make sure everyone else is alright before you take me." He responded, prompting what was almost a glare to come from Dawson before she shook her head roughly.

"You got hit by a car." She replied quickly, her voice holding more emotion than she cared to let on as Matt reached his uninjured arm out to rest his hand on top of her leg.

"It was more of a tap." He responded, trying to lighten the mood. Though by the look she was still giving him, it wasn't necessarily working. "Babe, I promise I'm fine… He wasn't able to go that fast when he hit me, I'm okay." He assured her, squeezing her leg in an effort to get her to meet his eyes. And once she finally did, he smiled softly. "I'm okay." He repeated, seeing Gabby draw in a slow, somewhat steady breath before she nodded, her body language alone telling him that she was gradually starting to believe what he was saying.

"Okay." She finally spoke, before carefully removing another piece of glass from his skin, the movement causing him to wince for a moment as he felt the uncomfortable stinging that came with her tending to his cuts. But he'd rather her do it than anyone else, Matt sitting there quietly the whole time while she focused on helping him. "...But you know I'm not leaving your side at the hospital, right."

That small smile returned to his lips before he let out a gentle laugh, Matt nodding in understanding as she started to wrap his arm. "Yes, dear." He answered her, Gabby biting back a smile of her own while she continued to work.

"Alright, I just finished talking to Boden." Severide spoke as he came back towards the group, Casey and Shay both looking in his direction while Gabby stayed focused on Matt's arm. "He's gonna meet you guys at med. He thought about coming here, but I told him we have everything under control, and that you probably wouldn't be here much longer. So he's just gonna meet you there." He explained, letting his radio fall back down to his chest as Casey gave him a nod.

"Thanks, Sev."

"It's no problem." He responded before crouching down to the ground, his eyes moving over Matt's clearly uncomfortable form for a moment. Casey was in some pain, that much Severide did know. But overall he looked to be alright. "...How you feeling, man?" Kelly questioned, Matt forcing himself to take a breath before he answered.

"Okay, considering." He told him, catching Gabby's gaze for a second before she went back to finishing up with his arm. "I'll probably be sore tomorrow, but nothing's broken as far as I can tell. So we'll call that a win."

"That's good… Though this couldn't have happened at a worse time." Severide commented with a bit of a grin, Matt starting to narrow his eyes in Kelly's direction. "Two days before the wedding, and you get hit by a car… Bet you're wishing you'd taken the shift off right about now, huh?" He teased, Casey scoffing lightly before he reached his good arm out to shove Severide.

"Yeah, yeah."

"The good news is that nothing happened to that pretty face before the wedding." Shay joined in, Gabby biting back a laugh this time before Matt turned her way, a small smile starting to form over his face as he was just glad to see his girl relaxing a bit. "And your suit should be able to hide that bandage, so no one will look back on your wedding day and remember that you got hit by a car. That's what's most important here."

"You're hilarious, Shay." Casey responded dryly, earning a proud nod from his friend just as Gabby finished up wrapping his arm.

"I know I am… Now let's get you out of here so Dawson can go and harass some doctors." Shay quipped, Gabby shooting her a look before the two paramedics and Severide began to help Casey up off the ground.

They were moving slowly, Matt unable to shake the weirdness he felt through his limbs once he was upright, almost like the collision had thrown off his body's equilibrium. But with each gradual step he took that feeling started to go away, the firefighter getting his legs under him as he walked off some of the soreness from getting hit.

After a few minutes of some slow and somewhat painful walking, they had finally made their way to the ambulance, Casey checking with Herrmann for a moment or two to make sure they had everything under control while Gabby climbed in the back with Matt, Shay shutting the doors behind her before heading around to the front seat.

Their drive to the hospital was rather quiet, neither one of them sure what to say right now as Gabby would occasionally check his vitals every so often, just to make sure nothing was going on with him while they made their way to the hospital.

"...You alright?" Casey finally spoke up after what had to have been at least five minutes of silence, Gabby glancing up at him from her spot beside him on the gurney.

"Aren't I supposed to be asking you that?" She deflected, Matt cocking his head to the side after reaching out to grab her hand.

"Yeah, but we know I'm fine… And we're about to go to the hospital, and have a bunch of smart doctors tell us that I'm fine, too. But right now I wanna know about you, are you okay?" He asked her, watching his fiancée draw in a slow breath before giving his hand a squeeze. "I know that freaked you out, it did for me too… I'm just sorry you had to see that."

"I'm fine, Matt." She responded softly after meeting his gaze. "And you don't need to be the one apologizing, it wasn't your fault… Rivera shouldn't have gone after him, but you were just doing your job. You were trying to help another firefighter, and it… it didn't go well. But as long as you're okay, I'm okay." She promised him, Matt looking over her features for a moment before he gave her a strong nod, the two staring at one another until she leaned in to give him a quick kiss.

"Just… Please don't scare me like that again." She breathed out against him, Matt frowning a bit as they separated and he saw a bit of fear still hiding in her gaze. Though he supposed he wasn't all that surprised to see it.

"I'll try not to." He promised her, knowing that was the best he was able to do without lying to her. And she knew it, too. "I always try to be safe, and I'll never stop doing that. Every time we get called out."

Gabby gave him another nod before leaning in to kiss him once more, their lips moving together easily until she pulled back, letting her forehead rest against his while she took a few slow breaths.

"I love you." She murmured into the air, Casey's smile growing a bit before he moved to steal another kiss.

"I love you too, baby… Always."

"Hey babe?" Casey called from his seat on the couch in their living room, muting the movie he had playing on the television while he listened to Gabby move around in their bedroom.

"Yeah?" She called back.

"Shay just texted me, she'll be here in about five minutes." He told her, there being a brief pause before he heard her start to walk down the hallway, Gabby then coming around the corner with a large duffle bag in her hands. "Babe, I could've helped you with that." He offered, seeing her shoot him a knowing look before she placed her bag on the ground and stepped around it.

"I don't think so, you need to rest." She countered, Matt resisting the urge to roll his eyes before he pushed himself up off the couch.

His movements were a little slow and stiff, as his body was surely feeling the effects of what had happened on shift yesterday, but overall he was fine. He could feel that he was alright, he knew it right after it happened, then the doctors at med had also assured them both that he was okay after running their tests and scans. He had gotten the all clear, as that man hadn't had enough time to do much real damage, like Casey suspected. The worst part about it was that it had just hurt like a bitch.

But regardless, he was fine, Matt walking away with just a few bumps and bruises, and those cuts on his arm that he'd have to keep covered for the next few days. And for that, he was grateful.

"You remember when the Doc said I was okay, right?" He pushed back once he gained his footing, Gabby wearing what he could only describe as an unimpressed look before coming to a stop in front of him. "And that I finished out the rest of shift yesterday?"

"Yeah, but I still think you should've come home." She challenged, Matt drawing in a deep breath before he reached out to gently grab onto her arms, knowing Gabby was still holding onto more worry about what happened yesterday than she needed to.

"Babe." He started, rubbing over arms before sliding his hands around to her back. "I'm alright… I promise." He reminded her, Gabby looking over him for a second or two before ultimately nodding.

"I know you are." She replied, pushing herself up to give him a kiss. "Just try not to get hit by any more cars before tomorrow, yeah?" She asked against him, Matt letting out a laugh before kissing her once more.

"You think you're so funny." He spoke quietly before swallowing the laugh that tried to leave her throat, the couple moving together for a few more moments before they eventually had to separate, the combination of needing air and Shay honking outside pulling them apart.

While sucking in a few deep breaths, Gabby rubbed her hand along his side before moving back over to grab her bag, Matt following easily until they came to a stop in the hallway.

"Well, I guess this is goodbye for a little bit." He told her, Gabby offering him a small smile as he reached out to hold onto her once more.

"Yeah, it is. As long as you're sure you're okay by yourself." She checked once more, Casey immediately giving her that reassurance that she'd needed most of the morning in the form of a nod. "Okay… But it won't be too long till we see each other. Just until our wedding tomorrow." She replied, her face beaming at the mention of their big day as Casey couldn't help but smile too.

"Yeah, it's not too long. Though it's still gonna be weird, not having you here." He responded while keeping that grin on his face, knowing this tradition of the groom and bride spending the night before their wedding apart was important to her and her family. "I'm gonna miss you."

"I'll miss you, too." She spoke, feeling his grip on her tighten just a bit. "But after tonight, they'll be no more nights apart." Gabby reminded him, seeing his smile grow before he let out a soft laugh.

"Never." He agreed, the two leaning forward to share one last kiss before their wedding until Gabby reluctantly pulled away, both of them having to all but force themselves to separate as she grabbed the last of her things before they started walking towards the door.

"I'll see you later." She told him, Matt offering her a gentle grin as he crossed his arms over his chest.

"See you… I'll be the guy standing there at the altar, probably crying." He joked, Gabby laughing back at him before shaking her head.

"Well, if you cry then I'm definitely gonna cry, too."

"Sorry babe, but I can't make any promises." He continued on, the two sharing another laugh before she reached down to open the door.

"I love you." She told him, Matt nodding at her while their eyes locked.

"I love you, too." He replied, their moment cut short by Shay honking the horn once more, even though she could clearly see Gabby was coming. But the two just ignored her, their gazes staying focused on one another before Matt spoke up once more. "See you tomorrow, soon-to-be Mrs. Casey."

Those last few words caused her face to light up before she nodded back at him, Gabby taking the last step out the door while still watching him. "Bye Matt." She said, Casey giving her one last wink before she shut the door, leaving him on his own inside their apartment while Gabby went off with Shay to her parent's house, the immediate silence around him hard to ignore.

But it didn't leave him with a bad feeling. In fact, it left him feeling almost giddy, as he knew these were the last few hours before what would be the best day of his life. Before he'd be going over to that church tomorrow and doing what he'd wished he could've done months ago. He just had one more night, until he would be the happiest man in the world.

Because tomorrow he'd be marrying the love of life. And he couldn't wait.
