Chapter 33
Anthony Taglietti had refused to cooperate with OCCB. Sergeant Bell was not surprised – he didn't know what had been found at Abigail's house. The letter was more than just a letter – it also contained a crudely drawn map. Not only did it confirm the agreement between Karen Davidson and her father's lawyer, but the map was also enough to send CSU and Sergeant Tutuola and Detective Rollins out to the site. Sergeant Bell hadn't heard from them, but she didn't need to – Taglietti was already sweating when she showed off the note and map.
"Tell us where the body is. Confirm what your accomplice said," Bell gave him a look from the other side of the interrogation table. The lawyer had his own lawyer, who leaned over and whispered something into his ear. Detective Stabler, who was sitting next to his Sergeant, gave her a look.
"We want some consideration…" Taglietti's lawyer, Michael Silvestri, said.
"He had a man kidnapped and killed for hire. That's Murder One in the state of New York. Never mind the pile of corruption charges that our computer tech and CSU team found evidence of at his office. What's he hoping for?" Bell gave him a look.
"He'd like to get out of prison before he dies," Silvestri said.
"We might be able to work something out, but only if he gives us confirmation that the body is where the map says it is," Bell told him.
"You won't find it there. They were going to build a building there, so we moved it," Taglietti spoke up.
"Where'd you move it to?" Stabler wanted to know.
"A piece of property I own outside the city," Taglietti hung his head. He gave the address and Elliot left the room, calling Fin on his way out. Sergeant Bell called the uniforms to have Taglietti transferred back to the holding and left the room, leaving the two lawyers to talk.
"Fin and Amanda are on their way with CSU. Told them to bring the ground penetrating radar," Stabler told her.
"All right. You better update Phil and Abigail. Glad we could wrap this one up," Bell gave him a slight smile.
"What's up?" He asked her, knowing that there was more.
"How'd Phil and Abigail take the news?" She wanted to know. The meeting with Taglietti had come after Captain Benson and Detective Stabler had talked to Ron Davidson's remaining family.
"Phil was beside himself. I told Huang to check on his mental health. It's a hard idea to swallow that your own daughter ordered the hit of her husband behind your back. Abigail just sat there with this look on her face, like she couldn't absorb what she was being told. Liv was going to stay with them until Huang showed up. She didn't want to leave them alone," he explained.
"Understandable. Write up your fives and make sure that Abigail's house is back to normal. Then I don't want to see you until Monday. Got it?" Bell asked. It was almost lunch time on a Friday. Finding a body could take a while and even then, CSU would need to confirm that the body they found was Ron Davidson – nothing her second in command could do about any of that.
"You got it," he smiled before texting Olivia. She told him that she'd spell Fin and Amanda with Joe and he offered to join her instead. The rest of her team deserved to go home and they could get some time together. He was surprised when she acquiesced. Promising to see her in a couple of hours, he quickly got to work on his required paperwork.
Olivia had returned to her office and now texted her detectives to give them the plan. She wasn't surprised that Fin and Joe responded in the group text message. Amanda on the other hand, responded in a separate message – Are you sure? Olivia heaved a sigh. Noah was staying with the McCann's this weekend. It was time to have the conversation. Yes, she responded. Ok. Call me if you need me, Amanda told her. Olivia heaved a sigh, glad for a friend like Amanda, she just sent a smile emoji. The quiet of her office allowed her to think and she needed some time to gather her thoughts.
