Sam and MacGyver had been walking for about 2 hours before they dared breaking radio silence. They hadn't intended to, but Riss had been right about the tunnel's length. They were farther from the rendezvous point than they had intended to be, and they weren't sure what shape the rest of the unit was in. They had heard some sounds of pursuit now and then, but not for the past hour.

Sam pulled out the radio and they finally found Sergeant Fitzwilliams.

"Echo, Bravo, Romeo. Virgil here. Foulsom, do you read?" said Sam.

"Foulsom here. Golf, Tango, Alpha. Virgil, what's your status?"

"Alive, but too far to make it to the point by agreed on time. What's your status? Over."

"Rendezvous compromised. Repeat, rendezvous is compromised, do not proceed to point. Change course to Vex. Time unknown. Do you copy?"

"Copy. Over and out." Sam set the radio down and pulled out the map.

"Where is Vex?" asked MacGyver. Sam pulled out a pencil. This was the checkpoint where we met up. The compound is here, and over here was the rendezvous to the west. Vex is the point here to the east. We'll have to circle back a bit to get there. Then, I guess we wait."

MacGyver nodded. "If the rendezvous was compromised, it's a safe bet that Jin tried to hand over the unit to Murdoc. That means it's very likely that Murdoc knows exactly how many of us there are, and may even know we're on our own."

Sam nodded and folded the map back up.

"So, we keep moving?"

MacGyver stood back up. "Yes, but drink some water."

"I'll have some later. We need to save it."

"You need to stay hydrated. We'll find more, but we're not just trapped in the wilderness. We're trying to evade capture, and we need to stay alert. Drink up."

They kept moving, circling back around east, stopping to rest every now and then. MacGyver had been right. He was able to find water, but they didn't stay near the rivers or streams. Murdoc's men would be hoping they would do that. As the day wore on, they pulled the map back out. MacGyver studied it. "If we pass on the right side of the hill, we can keep it between us and the compound. It may take more time, but it'll be safer."

Sam stayed silent.

"Sam?"

"It'll be dark soon which would give us some cover. Whether or not they overheard the radio message, Murdoc will be expecting us to try to get out of here as quickly as possible."

"Sam, what are you thinking?"

Sam held the map with both hands. "I'm thinking that Murdoc knows our mission was reconasiance. He knows we got the photos and information, the logical conclusion to our mission is to get out of here quickly, not to go back for Riss."

"You're thinking you can slip back into the compound," accused MacGyver.

"You said it yourself, he won't start in on her until he's sure he's lost us. They won't be expecting us to come back, they may even have lighter patrols if they sent men out to look for us and the unit."

"Sam-"

"Dad, I've already thought of every argument you have. Riss knew what she was doing, getting ourselves killed won't help her, we need to get the information back to the foundation, etc. I've already thought about them all. But...if we walk out of here without her, she's a goner. She will never have another chance to get out."

MacGyver turned and leaned against a tree. "It's not that I don't care Sam. I do. She saved us and she's Pete's family. But, you're MY family. Look, one person will stand a better chance of sneaking in. I'll go back and see if there's a way to go in and get her. You take the film and get to the new rendezvous point. Keep the radio and the map. I've got my compass. If I can get her out, we'll only be a few hours behind you."

MacGyver was expecting a fight. Instead, Sam thought for a moment. "Fine," he said.

"Really?" asked MacGyver.

"Yeah, you head out now. I'll circle around the hill."

"Right," said MacGyver, still confused. He took two steps before turning back.

"You're just going to try to follow me as soon I turn my back, aren't you?"

Sam gave a half smile. "You're starting to catch on."

MacGyver rolled his eyes. "Fine, but you're gonna follow my orders, to the letter."

"Your orders?"

"Maybe you forgot, but the Phoenix Foundation put me in charge of this operation. So like it or not, I'm in charge, and you will stick to me like glue, and will not try ANYTHING without clearing it with me first, got it?"

"Dad, I-"

"Got it? Believe me Sam, I've done missions like these before. Things can go sideways fast. So can you handle following my lead?"

Sam nodded his head, his half smile growing. "Yes sir."

….

It was dark by the time they were back at the compound. Last night they had watched it from the west. Today they were on the east side. Instead of trying to slip through the fence, they had gotten on a hill nearby it. The watchtowers were still manned and their biggest risk, but Sam had been right. There did seem to be fewer guards patrolling inside the fence than last night.

MacGyver and Sam passed the binoculars back and forth.

"Do you see a way in?" asked Sam.

"A couple possibilities," murmured MacGyver. "Nothing definite though. The watchtowers make it hard. They're more on edge tonight than they were yesterday," he handed the binoculars to Sam.

"Coming out of the main tent. Commander Verden?" he asked.

Sam looked down at the tent entrance. "Yeah, it looks like him. Wait, Murdoc's there too, standing in the entrance. He's waving across the way." As Murdoc headed back into his tent, Sam shifted his binoculars to see what Murdoc had been looking at. "It's Riss!" he hissed.

"Are you sure?"

"Here, see for yourself."

MacGyver took the binoculars and looked down where Sam was pointing. Two guards had just walked out of a small tent. Between them, they half walked/half dragged Riss. Her hands were bound in front of her. She had a blindfold on, and she wasn't walking well. She kept tripping and staggering. Every time she lost her footing, they just dragged her till she gained her feet again and stumbled along with them towards Murdoc's tent. MacGyver gripped the binoculars. Sam reached for them. He handed them back, gritting his teeth and blinking fast. "She's not in good shape," he warned. Sam looked through them, and then back to MacGyver. The worry on his face was making MacGyver anxious. He knew too well what Sam was feeling. He wanted to believe that Riss really was trustworthy, but he knew how split loyalties could tear a person apart. He'd seen it before, with Lisa and Maria. Even with Victor, the Romanian soldier who'd discovered his humanity just before dying. Of the three, only Maria had been able to break completely free from her past. He wanted to give Riss that chance, he just wished Sam was well away from this.

"Kay," said MacGyver. "We're going to go down there. I've got an idea. But, once again, follow my lead? Okay?"

"I will," insisted Sam. "So, what are we going to do?"

"Something insane," said MacGyver as he started down the hill.

…..

Riss tripped again as they walked through the tent flaps. This time, instead of hauling her back up, the men just pushed her down onto the dirt floor. She winced as she hit the ground, but tried to cut off the sound. She knew what tent they'd brought her into. The last thing that would help her now would be showing weakness.

She could hear him turn when they came in. She made herself kneel up from the ground. She tried to keep her face blank and her breathing steady. The guards shifted uncomfortable behind her as the silence stretched on. Finally, he spoke.

"That'll be all. Wait outside." The guards retreated back out the tent.

It was even quieter with them gone. Riss tried not to tremble.

"Stand up Riss," came the emotionless voice.

Riss gulped and tried to stand up, but couldn't quite lift herself. When she'd stood holding Murdoc's guards back, she'd wondered if they would just shoot her to clear their path, but her father had shouted out that he wanted her alive. She'd tried to keep her spray wide spread, but they'd managed to get behind her. One of them rammed the but of his machine gun into her stomach. She'd gone down immediately, where a few of them had kicked her for good measure until Murdoc came up. Even when he did, he let them land a few more kicks before telling them to secure her and take her back.

"I said to get up," snarled Murdoc as he crossed over to her, grabbing her arm and yanking her up. Riss gasped, trying and failing to stifle it as the pain shot through her ribs. The grip on her arm loosened as his other hand moved to rest on her lower ribs. Murdoc felt the bandages underneath her shirt.

"Broken?" he asked, his voice almost sounding bored.

"Bruised," replied Riss curtly, struggling to keep her voice neutral the way she'd been trained. The grip on her arm softened. Gently grabbing her other arm, Murdoc pivoted her and lowered Riss carefully onto an ottoman to sit. His hands lingered for a moment, making sure she didn't fall over. Riss planted her feet to keep her balance. After a moment, Murdoc let go. He waited a moment more and then straightened up and stepped back.

"Well," he said nonchalantly, "I'm waiting. What fantastic tale do you have to tell me, hmm?"

Riss remained silent.

"What? No explanation. Come come Riss. You must have some story ready? No? Well there's so many you can choose from. They kidnapped you and forced you to open the doors. You were trying to escape. You couldn't see where you were shooting. Come now, I'm waiting. I could use the entertainment."

Riss swallowed. "If you've already thought of them, then what's the use in saying them?"

Riss couldn't see Murdoc's bitter smile, but she could feel his contempt.

"Yes, true. So how about we start instead with the truth. Why?"

Riss stayed silent.

Murdoc crossed over to her and clasped her chin, tilting her face up towards him. He rolled her face back and forth a moment.

"The medic says you got the right amount of the flare, you should recover your sight in a few days. As for your hand," he said reaching down, "you've probably lost the fingerprints on your right hand. Not too bad to be honest, we may even find a use for that in the future."

Riss tried to not look hopeful at the word "future." She could tell her father was watching her closely.

"Well, in the face of your silence, let me tell you some truth," he said sitting down across from her. "You're not as good an actress as you think you are Clarissa."

Riss held her breath.

"I know about the baby. I know about your mother and her 'friend'. I've known about it all for some time. You've also failed to adequately hide your distaste for our most recent venture and ally. You know, the Commander wanted you handed over to him?"

Riss tried to steady herself. She'd felt herself reeling when her father revealed he knew about her mother's new life.

"When did you find out about Mom?"

Murdoc smiled. "Finally. About one week after you deleted it from the report you handed me. Did you really think you knew all my sources? No, I've been tracking dear Jennifer for some time now. Her and that oaf she calls her husband."

"What are you going to do?"

"About them?" asked Murdoc, grabbing some buscuits from a tray and popping them into his mouth. "Well I guess we'll see soon enough. I've just been waiting to wrap up my business here Honestly though, that shouldn't be your main concern right now. Buscuit?"

Riss just sat there, trying to process. She'd tried to come up with a plan yesterday while she'd been left in the tent. At first she'd been too worried about whether or not MacGyver and Sam had made it out, but as she realized they'd made it, she'd tried to figure out what to do next. Honestly, she hadn't thought she'd live long enough to leave the tunnel.

Murdoc leaned back in his seat. "Is that what this is about? You think saving MacGyver means he'll protect your mother?"

Riss shook her head. Murdoc reached over and grabbed her face again, harshly this time. Riss tried to raise her hands, but he pushed them down with his other hand. "Careful Riss. Commander Varden hasn't left yet. There's still time to hand you off to him with the rest of the weapons." Riss gasped. The sharp movements were hurting her ribs. Murdoc gave her chin a shake. "I asked you a question Clarissa. You made your choice back in L.A. What made you think you could go back on it now?"

"I'm sorry."

Murdoc sighed in disappointment and released his hold on Riss. "Well, sorry just makes everything better," he mocked as he walked back to his table. Riss heard him pick something up, and then a gun being cocked.

"I didn't finish. I'm sorry I'm not Ashton."

"Excuse me?" said Murdoc turning. "What?"

"From the moment I met you I wanted to be everything you wanted. And I did try. You know I did. But I couldn't. I know I always let you down. That you wanted me to be more like Ashton, with no doubts, no weaknesses. And I wanted to be. When she died I tried to be and do what you wanted, but I can't. I can't and I never will."

Murdoc slipped the gun into his holster and stepped closer. Riss flinched as he neared her, but kept her seat.

"So just shoot. If you ever considered me your daughter, just shoot and get it over with."

Murdoc paused, and then leaned down. Putting his hands on either side of Riss' face.

"I was proud of you. When you evaded all your guards to go to that stupid concert, passed your field test at just 16, handed me MacGyver and his friends. Even when you let me down in L.A. and got in the way, I was still proud of you." Murdoc's hand started shaking as he held Riss' face, his voice breaking with the bitterness that now slipped in. "But MacGyver? Of all people, you risk your life to save him? Or was it his brat? Please Riss, don't tell me you fell for the offspring of that bumbling swiss-army knife?"

Riss pulled her head away from Murdoc's hands.

Murdoc straightened with a shrug, trying to regain his nonchalance. "Have it your way. Know that they are still out there in that jungle and we will find them. I will finish my business with Commander Varden, and then I will deal with your mother. So exactly what have you accomplished?"

Riss took a breath. Her training screamed at her to stay silent and ride this out. To focus on self-preservation. But she couldn't. She couldn't hold herself back anymore. Painfully, she rose to her feet. She tried to look in her father's direction.

"I'm done. I'm done with your organization," she said coldly.

"You're done?" asked Murdoc incredulously. "Just like that?"

Riss trembled but stayed firm. "I'm done with trying to be good enough for you. I don't want to be like you. Maybe Mom was right. Maybe you are insane."

"SMACK!" Murdoc's hand flashed across her face. Riss tumbled and fell hard into the dirt. With her hands bound, she couldn't break her fall. Her nose smashed into the ground. She lifted her head slowly, raising her hands to wipe away the blood.

"Riss?" asked Murdoc from above her. A tinge of regret in his voice.

Just then, she heard a loud engine roar and felt the ground around her rumble.

"What the-?!" exlaimed Murdoc.

…..

Sam was ecstatic! Right now, he was behind the wheel of a miniature tank, barreling down the hill toward Murdoc's tent!

First, MacGyver and Sam had jumped two of the guards on the edge of the compound and taken their uniforms.

"Okay, here's the plan," he'd explained. "Do you think you can sneak over to that miniature tank over there and get it running?"

"Yeah, I can handle that," said Sam. "But I think they're going to notice a tank moving?"

"Hang on a second. Once you're in, don't start it right away. I'm going to pass over by those jeeps parked on the hill there. They're already running, probably waiting to our good Commander and his weapons away."

"So you're going to swipe one of them?"

"Not exactly. I'm just going to shift them into neutral and let them slide. Once you hear some shouting and people moving around, run the tank into the tent."

Sam's eyes went wide. "And then what?"

"I haven't quite figured that out yet. I'll run down under cover of the chaos and meet you in the tent."

"You just want me in a tank so I don't get shot."

"That's only part of it," insisted MacGyver. "It also happens that's going to be our best bet for getting up the hill and through the fence without getting shot."

"Is this how you normally handled rescue missions?"

MacGyver adjusted the guard's black beret on his head. "I don't think I've ever had two rescue missions that happened the same way."

He turned to Sam and gave him a smile. "Let's get moving. Remember, keep your head down."

…..

As Sam and his tank crashed through the tent, Murdoc jumped to the left, and Riss started rolling to the right. The whole side of the tent collapsed around Murdoc, trapping him in it's folds. Sam popped the top of the tank open just as MacGyver came running into the tent. Another guard was close behind him, but Mac spun around and punched him in the face, knocking him our cold.

"Dad!" called Sam

"Sam?" asked Riss in disbelief as she propped herself up on her elbows. MacGyver rushed over to her and started hauling her up.

"What? Let go of me!" cried Riss when she felt someone grabbing her from behind.

"Cool it Riss. We're trying to get you out of here," grunted MacGryver as he lifted her flailing body up towards Sam. Sam grabbed her arms, and dragged her into the tank as MacGyver climbed in.

"It's a little tight!" called Sam.

"Well, double up in your seat," replied MacGyver.

Riss settled onto Sam's lap. Sam fumbled trying to figure out how to place his arms. Riss however, still had the adrenaline from the crash running through her veins. "Let's get out of here!" she called.

MacGyver squeezed through the opening. Just before he pulled his head in and clanged the door shut, Murdoc managed to get his head out of the folds of the tent. For one second, their eyes met. Murdoc's face in a snarl of rage, his eyes shooting daggers.

"MacGyver!" he screamed.

Quickly MacGyver sealed the door shut. "Time to go!" he said hurriedly. They floored the tank through the other wall of the tent. Through the view in the front, they could see the guards leaping left and right to get clear of them. They gunned the tank up the hill.

"Are we going to have enough momentum to break through the fence?!" called Sam over the roar of the engines.

"We're in a tank!" shouted Riss. "Blast it!"

MacGyver looked at the controls. They all seemed to be in the wrong place on this model. "Where is it?" I don't see it."

"Are you kidding me?!" shouted Riss. She reached over and pulled a lever, swiveling the cannon gun around. "Is it pointed at the fence?" she asked.

"Yeah!" called back MacGyver.

Reaching up Riss slammed her hands into a button above her head, firing off the cannon and exploding a small hole in the fence.

"Good hit!"

"There's more ammo under this seat, but we're not going to get far in a tank! This isn't very subtle!" she accused.

"Don't worry," said MacGyver. "We just need it to get out. We can lose them in the jungle."

Riss shook her head in disbelief as they broke through the hole in the fence and jostled them in the tank like sardines in a can. She fell into Sam, his arms wrapping up around her defensively without thinking.

"You are unbelievable. Both of you. You're crazy." she said.

Sam looked offended. "I think you meant 'thanks'. We just saved your life!"

"You haven't saved anything yet. Besides, I saved your skins first."

"You put us in danger first."

"I did-"

"Cut it out will you?!" snapped MacGyver. "Right now we need to get out of here!"

They heard explosions behind them.

"What was that?" asked Sam.

"I don't know," said MacGyver. "But it might give us cover. Hurry, everyone out. We're at the hill."

Riss held up her bound hands, "A little help here?"

Sam cut her loose and helped her out. He reached for her blindfold too, but Riss stopped him.

"It's no use. I tested it while they were keeping me. I can only see a blur right now. In this dark I won't see anything."

MacGyver found a rock and braced it against the pedal in the tank. He jumped off as it started rolling deeper into the jungle.

"That'll hopefully draw them away. Come on," he said as he slipped on his night goggles. "We've got to move fast."

He grabbed Riss' hand and pushed Sam in front of him. "Get moving, get moving" he said as he pulled Riss behind him.

They'd been running for 30 minutes, more sounds of explosions occasionally going off in the distance.

Suddenly, their radio blazed to life.

"Virgil do you copy? Virgil are you there?" Sam pulled the radio up.

"Virgil here. Echo Bra-"

"Forget it kid, MacGyver, are you there? You need to get to point Helm now! Full speed ahead skipper!"

MacGyver grabbed the radio in shock. "Nikki?"

"Who else do you think would save your butt? Now move it! We've been giving you some cover, but we don't know what resources Murdoc could be calling in. Get to the new rendezvous point now!"

MacGyver turned to Sam. "It's a valley 2 miles to the east."

"We got it Nikki."

"Good, now move it!"

They set off racing to the east. MacGyver was impressed at Riss. Despite running blind, she managed to stay upright, jumping over the roots and rocks as they ran. He kept a hold of her hand, but only had to pull her back up once. One mile in they started to hear a roar. "Is that the helicpoter?" asked Sam.

Riss started sniffing. "Burning?"

MacGyver looked behind him. "Oh, no, run!"

The jungle was ablaze, the flames eagerly climbing up the trees and racing through them towards the three dark figures scrambling over the rough terrain.

As they finally broke through the tree line into the valley, they saw a helicopter just hovering over the ground.

"That's got to be Nikki," shouted MacGyver. "Hurry!"

"We're going to get shot out of the air!" cried Riss.

"Don't worry. Nikki knows how to run an operation. She'll have thought of a way. We just need to make it to her." They broke through the trees and into the valley, where a helicopter hovered above the ground. The door was thrown open and Nikki leaned out. "Come on!" she shouted.

They rushed forward. Sam reached it first, but turned to help MacGyver lift Riss in. Nikki grabbed her shoulders and set her down in a seat. MacGyver pushed Sam, "get in!" he called over the roar. Finally, he climbed in himself, grabbing Nikki's arm to pull him up.

"They're in! Climb!" she called.

The pilot nodded and started up. Some more explosions went off in the distance.

"You have no idea what it took to get the hail fire cover," Nikki said to MacGyver. "But when you didn't appear at Vex, it wasn't hard to guess that you'd gone back towards Murdoc's compound. We worried he might have captured you." She looked back at Riss. "Didn't realize you were on a rescue mission till that tank came rolling out of the compound."

MacGyver looked back at Riss. Sam was sitting by her, and trying to get her to show him her arm. In the light of the copter, he realized her right arm was badly scratched. He realized that's how she'd managed to keep running through the trees without hitting her head and falling. She'd just kept her arm up and let it take the hits and the scratches.

"Your cover fire might have backfired a bit," MacGyver said while waving at the flames below.

"Oh, that wasn't us," replied Nikki. "We kept the fire over the compound."

Riss raised her voice above the copter's rotators. "It was Da—Murdoc. He wasn't about to let us get away without a scratch. Ahh, that hurts Sam!"

"Mac, don't tell me that's who I think it is," whispered Nikki.

MacGyver smiled. "Nikki, meet Clarissa-Pete's Great-Niece. Clarisssa, Nikki, a great co-worker."

Riss raised her good hand. "Yeah, Hi. Ow! Stop that!" she snapped at Sam. He had used the distraction to grab her right arm and finally push her sleeve up.

Nikki looked at MacGyver in disbelief. "You went back in to get Murdoc's kid?"

"She's Pete's family too, and she risked her life to help us escape when things went sideways. Speaking of which, what happened to Sergeant Fitzwilliams? Was this a setup?"

Nikki nodded. "Partially. I don't think Jin was already in Murdoc's pocket. He just saw an opportunity when the Sergeant and his men were trying to create the distraction for you, and tried to sell you all out. Probably hoped to get more money. He and two of ours got killed in the crossfire. The Sergeant and his two other men made it to Vex, but when he told us you'd got his message but hadn't shown, I started worrying you'd been captured. With the information from the Sergeant, I was able to get a stealth plane to fly overhead. When we saw the mayhem you created, I called in some favors and got you some cover fire. A tank? Really? How were you planning to get out of that one Mac?"

MacGyver gestured to the helicopter. "Well it worked didn't it?"

Nikki turned red. "It worked because I bailed you out!"

"That's what I said. It worked."

Nikki glared at him. MacGyver started laughing. Nikki tried to keep her face angry, but she couldn't help it. Mac had always had that contagious smile. She started laughing too.

MacGyver reached out and clasped Nikki's arm. "Thanks Nikki. I owe you one."

Nikki smiled. "Yeah you do."

While they talked, Sam pulled out the first aid kit and got to work on Riss. Between getting captured, having a tank break through the tent she was in, and the run through the jungle, she was pretty banged up.

For someone who was normally so stoic and tough, she was being quite the baby.

"That stings!" she hissed as Sam started disinfecting her cuts.

"You don't like it? You can find your own helicopter."

Riss glowered at him, though the effect was definitely hampered by her blindfold.

Sam started spreading the ointment over her arm and wrapping it up.

"Thanks Riss," he finally said.

Riss froze. She opened her mouth, but then closed it again.

Sam continued. "I don't even begin to get why you do what you do, but thank you. I was wrong. You did help us. You saved my Dad...and me."

Riss sat there in silence as Sam finished wrapping her arm. He let his hand rest on her arm for a moment.

"I know that couldn't have been easy," he said.

Riss could feel all the emotion and pain she'd been suppressing for the last 24 hours start to bubble up in her throat and threaten to start leaking out of her eyes. She shook her head and took a deep breath, trying to hold it back.

"I didn't have a choice anymore," she said. "I was an idiot. You all told me what he was. Mom told me what he was, and I just kept refusing to see it until it was too late."

"It's not your fault," said Sam.

"Really, almost getting us all killed back in L.A. wasn't my fault?"

Sam shrugged. "Okay, that one might be a bit your fault."

Riss let out a half laugh/half cry. "Thanks."

Sam squeezed her hand. " It's going to be alright now. Pete and Jennifer are going to be thriilled to see you."

Riss bolted upright. "Oh no, Pete, Mom! We have to warn them!"

"What?" said Sam.

MacGyver had just finished telling Nikki what they'd seen and about Commander Varden, when he heard Riss shout.

"What?" he echoed.

"He knows. Murdoc knows about the baby. He said he would take care of it once his business with Commander Varden was completed."

MaGyver and Nikki looked at each other. "I don't think he means sending the happy couple a gift basket," said Nikki.

MacGyver nodded. "We gotta Pete on the phone."

"Peter Thorton speaking."

"Pete, it's me. Where are you?"

"MacGyver! I'm at the hospital! Jenny went into labor. It's a little early, but they say she's going to be just fine. Where are you? Do you think you'll be back soon? How did things go with Nikki? Is Sam alright. Did you take the mission?"

"Pete, will you slow down a minute? Now, things have gotten a little complicated. We have Riss. She was at the compound. We got her out, but things are bad. Murdoc knows about Jennifer and Aaron. He knows about the baby."

"What?"

"Riss tried to hide it from him, but he's been keeping tabs on Jenny, and you. Now he's over here, and we've hopefully created some distraction for him, but if he's put a tail on you or her he probably knows what's happening."

"Alright, I'll get some more protection down here at the hospital. We'll have to relocate them as soon as we can. And Riss. MacGyver, how did you get her out?"

"It's a long story Pete, I'll tell you when I get there. We'll get back as quickly as we can. Be careful!"

Riss leaned her head back against the headrest, trying to think.

"This isn't good."

"Relax," said Nikki. "There's no way your father can beat us back."

"No, but he might already have people in place he just needs to call. I have to be there. No one knows how my Dad and his operatives work better than me. I've made him so angry. Just before I left I said some things..."

"Hey, we'll get there, don't worry," said MacGyver. "And you need to take it easy when we do. You need your eyes to heal."

Despite the bandage, MacGyver was pretty sure Riss was rolling her eyes.

"Please. If I need advice about going blind, I'll ask Uncle Pete, not you."

"As a matter of fact," countered MacGyver. "I know a thing or two about temporary blindness."

"Oh really? Was that a souvenir from my father?"

"Oh no," said Nikki. "That was a gift from his girlfriend."

MacGyver looked flustered. "Nikki," he moaned. "Not now."

"Wait, what is this story?" asked Sam.

"I said not now," repeated MacGyver. Looking to change the subject he turned back to Riss. "By the way, I didn't tell you earlier. It's a boy. You're going to have a little brother."
