Many houses had passed since Juno and her group had escaped the airport, but they had lost Peach and Jack was hurt and to make things worse it was now dark. The living dead was everywhere on the road, but Legoshi drove the truck until he found a place that was clear of the ghouls. He and the others go Jack out of the truck to see if they could help him at all.
Jack sat against a tree as Haru checked his wound. "How bad is it?" he moaned sickly.
Haru put a fresh bandage on his arm and walked over to the others. "His wound has turned black and filled with puss," she explained turning her attention to the sick dog. "It's just like Peach's wound and when he dies he'll come back as one of those things." she grumbled.
Jack couldn't hear what the others were talking about, but he knew that it was not good. Ibuki pulled his pistol out. "We should get rid of him because he's a danger to us all!" he demanded.
The others could not believe what the lion wanted to do, but they knew he was right because the same thing happened to Peach and she almost killed them. Pina looked at Legoshi who was starting to get brokenhearted placed a caring hand on his shoulder trying to comfort him. The wolf didn't feel any better, but the doll sheep had only one thing to say.
"We should let Legoshi do it or let Jack decide for himself on what should be done!"
Louis nodded in agreement and turned to Ibuki. "Give Legoshi your pistol!" he ordered.
Although hesitant, the older lion obey and flipped his pistol around before offering it to Legoshi. The gray wolf looked at the weapon with a sorrowful expression on his face, but he took it and looked over at his best friend since childhood. This was going to be so hard for him to do, but Legoshi knew that Jack would want him to kill him to keep him from turning into one of those undead freaks.
Jack saw Legoshi walking up to him with the pistol, but he could tell that his friend was at the point of tears. The two best friends stared at one another and Legoshi pointed the pistol at Jack, taking aim right at his head.
"Jack, I'm sorry," he said to Jack, but no matter how hard he tried, the wolf could not bring himself to pull the trigger.
The dog looked sadly at his friend. "Legoshi, just leave me here and go with the others!" he ordered with tears running down his cheeks. "Go my friend!" he begged, but Legoshi just stood there.
Haur walked up to Legoshi and took the pistol from his hand. The wolf looked at the dwarf rabbit with concern because he feared that she would kill his friend herself, but to his amazement she threw the pistol away. The rest of the group could not believe what just happened, but Louis calmed them and waited to see what would happen next.
Jack held out his hands to Haru and Legoshi. "Give me your hands." he said with a weak smile. Legoshi and Haru took his hands and he placed their hands together. "Live happily guys!" he cried.
Legoshi broke down into tears like never before. "Jack, you have always been a good friend and I'll never forget you!" he cried taking Jack into arms for one last hug.
Legoshi and Haru joined the others at the truck, but everyone could tell that Legoshi was taking it the hardest. They took off as Jack watched them leave, Legoshi watched Jack shrink into the distance until he was out of sight. The wolf sat in the back of the truck with Haru, Juno, Pina, Sheila, Casmo, and Free while Louis and Ibuki drove the truck, but everyone felt bad because how many more had to die in order for the rest to live.
The group drove for hours and it was now midnight when they pulled to a stop because a sign had caught their attention. Pina got out and tried to read the sign, but it was to dark to see it. "Give me some light!" he ordered.
Free took a flashlight and aimed it at the sign. The sign read "Lake View Mall 10 miles". The doll sheep smiled at his friends. "We might be able to find shelter there."
Sheila laughed in disbelief. "There's only going to be those dead pricks at that location waiting for us!" she had lost all hope since the airport.
That didn't stop the group from voting to see if there was any shelter at the mall. They needed to find a place to hold up that would have food, medical supplies and be safe. They drove until they were about three miles from the mall when the truck died on them. Ibuki looked at the truck's engine and could tell that it was not going to work anymore.
"Damn, everything is dying around us!" grumbled Louis. "Looks like we're walking!" he added taking out his pistol.
Free pulled his pistol out, licked his finger and ran it across the pistol's sights. "Why do you like your sights?" asked Cosmo. The lion didn't answer, but only aimed right at her. "what the FUCK!" she gasped. Free fired and Cosmo felt the bullet graze her fur, but then she saw what he was really aiming at.
Free smiled as a female ghoul moose in a wedding dress fell to the ground. "A little off center, but I got her!" he laughed, but Cosmo only smacked him for not telling her to move.
The group walked down the road and things were quiet, but they stayed alert because they didn't know what was out there. The group ran into a few more ghouls, but they took them out without any trouble. Haru was starting to feel to tierd to walk, but Legoshi picked her up in his arms and carried her. They all knew that needed to find shelter and they hoped that the mall would be it.
The survivors finally reached the outskirts of the mall. 'Look at that!" gasped Juno pointing at hundreds of dead bodies around the wall that surrounded the mall. "They have all been shot in the head!" she stated.
"Then there must be other survivors here!"
Just then gun shots rang out and the group hit the dirt, but Pina felt something wet on the side of his face. He ran his hand across the side of his face and looked at his hand in horror. "I knew it I'm DEAD!" he screamed.
Louis reached over and ran his hand across the doll sheep's face and tasted the stuff. "Strawberry Jam!" he laughed. Pina saw that there was a broken jar of jam that he fell on and he laughed also.
Ibuki shouted to the one who shot at them. "We're survivors mother fucker!" he roared.
A zebra in a police uniform looked over the wall and saw what the lion was talking about. He turned to a group of other police officers who were at the wall's gate. "Hey you guys open that gate we got more survivors!" he ordered.
Juno was happy to know that there were more survivors that could help them. The female wolf hugged Louis. "We're safe!" she cried with joy.
"Let's get in there and get some rest." sighed Louis with a smile.
As the gates opened, armored SWAT officers rushed forward. The lead officer then pulled his Glock 19 and said in a commanding tone, "Hands up and be ready for inspection!" The survivors did as they were told as a goat in a lab hazmat suit walked up. He carefully checked each survivor for any bites. Once he was done he turned to the lead officer.
"They're clean," he smiled giving the lead officer a thumbs up.
Juno, Legoshi, Haru, Pina, Sheila, Cosmo, Louis, Ibuki and Free were then escorted through the gate and saw hundreds of other survivors of different animal breeds both young and old. Some medical doctors were tending to the wounded that had come and then some cooks gave them something to eat. After they eat they were given a place to sleep. Juno thought that the nightmare would soon be over, but Melon was still on their trail.
While the survivors settled down, Legoshi went to go look around. Maybe he might find other survivors from Cherryton. As he passed by a seating area, he noticed to his great delight that his roommates from 701. Collot the Sheepdog, Voss the Fennec fox, Durham the coyote and Miguno the spotted hyena. They saw their friend and rushed forward, but Legoshi suddenly remembered the fate of Jack, how could he tell his friends about Jack?
