Heading into Brooklet Hill, the three teens crossed a plank bridge over a pond and spotted a short, thin girl with short blue hair.
"Hello. I'm Lana Kawai. I serve as the captain of Brooklet Hill." She greeted them in a soft spoken tone. "So, trial-goers... which of you will attempt my trial first?"
"Let's rock paper scissors for it!" Hau requested.
"Sure." Ash replied with a grin. The two shook their hands twice before showing their choice.
"Yes! I get to go first!" The native boy cheered.
"Well, see you after your trial." Misty told him.
"Yeah, see ya." Ash held out his hand for a fist bump, and the two boys added an explosion after the bump, softly laughing before Misty and Ash went back.
"I'll explain the trial to you now. My particular trial is this. I want you to herd the Pokemon found in the pools of Brooklet Hill, driving them downstream to draw out the Totem Pokemon. If I might be so blunt, they are Wishiwashi. It's Wishiwashi I want you to herd. But I won't expect you to swim through the pools yourself. You'll have a Lapras to help you travel the bodies of water and and help drive those Pokemon downstream for me! So if you're ready, please follow me." Lana led Hau towards the first part of his challenge. "I'm sorry, what's your name?"
"The name's Hau Hoaloha."
"Oh, so you must be Kahuna Hala's grandson. It's lovely to meet you. Just lovely. Oh, do you see those two splashing over there?" Looking into the water, Hau was able to spot some WishiWashi splashing about.
"Yeah." He replied. Putting her fingers to her mouth, Lana whistled which summoned a Lapras towards them.
"Herd them downstream so that you'll face the Totem Pokemon." She reminded him.
"Yeah, thanks." He said as he got on Lapras. With the help of his Pikachu using Thundershock, Hau was able to go from pool to pool, shocking Wishiwashi and Dewpiders alike and sending them downstream. As the long afternoon went on, it went from sunny without a cloud in the sky to dark, cloudy and rainy, and Hau was wet. Upon reaching the final pool, Lana encouraged him.
"Keep it up Hau! It won't be long now before you meet the totem Pokemon! Right by the waterfall! Seize victory!"
"Yeah! Definietly! Come on Pikachu, Thundershock!" Hau requested with vigor and a smile. Pikachu leapt up and sent a zap of lightning towards the frothing spot. Hau caught Pikachu as Lapras headed towards the spot. The rain started to become heavy, like it was becoming a storm. Thunder echoed in the sky but there were no near by flashes. WishiWashi swam around frantically as big blue eyes glowed underwater like bio-luminescent plants before grey and green legs shot out like bamboo stalks and touched down on the surface. Bursting from below the surface, the Water Bubble Pokemon roared despite the water bubble surrounding its head. It glowed with a mystical power.
"An Araquanid." Hau gulped. "Alright then! Pikachu, use Thundershock!" The electric type jumped again and sent a bolt of lightning. Araquanid tried to defend with Bubble Beam, but the concentrated stream of bubbles just gave the electricity a path to travel and got shocked in response. It staggered a bit. "Yes! Now use Electro Ball!" Landing on Lapras's head only to jump again, the Mouse Pokemon formed a yellow plasma ball before throwing it at the water/bug type, which it exploded against. However, from the smoke, more bubbles shot forth and popped powerfully against Pikachu. He screamed from sheer discomfort as he fell into the water. "Pikachu!" Hau cried out. Floating back to the surface, Pikachu was knocked out in one go. "Pikachu, return!" Once he was withdrawn, Hau sighed. "Thanks buddy. You did awesome through this trial. Rest now." For something this strong, Hau knew what to do now.
"Eevee, let's go!" Letting his newest catch take a turn, Hau started to make a pose, just like Ash did earlier. He and Eevee began to glow. "Eevee, use Breakneck Blitz!" Like Mudbray, Eevee rushed with the speed of a horse and power of a rhino a 10th of their weight towards the totem Pokemon. It tried to shoot more bubbles at Eevee but the Evolution Pokemon zigzagged around the attack before leaping up and ramming right into it's chest with force to cause it to fly into the air a few feet up and back. However, the water/bug Pokemon then flicked the normal type off with its leg before using Bubble Beam. "Use Swift!" Reorienting herself, Eevee spewed a barrage of golden stars which managed to cut threw more of the bubbles than exploding into dust and thus was able to manage to land another hit, pushing Araquanid back. Being pushed into the waterfall, the totem Pokemon submerged underwater, defeated. Eevee then fell into the water, but by then victory was claimed as Hau picked her up from the water. "Atta girl! I knew you could do it!" Hau laughed as he hugged her close, Eevee laughing with him.
"Well done Hau! Please come over here now!" Lana requested from the shore. Once he was back standing on sand, the trial captain spoke to him. "What a very surprising surprise. But I knew you could do it. Who would've thought it; that all those WishiWashi gathering would have summoned an Araquanid, that is. Hehe, even I was caught-hook, line and sinker."
"That was certainly challenging!" Hau laughed.
"You were amazing. Truly impressive. Please take this." Lana handed Hau a Waterium Z crystal, which was colored dark blue.
"Awesome!"
"This is how you use Waterium Z." Lana crossed her arms like an x before shooting them forward. She then moved her arms to her left and moved them like waves, then shifting them to the right. "And I have more than just that to offer you. Another token for clearing my trial. These are Lana officials. My own homemade fishing rods." From the ground behind her, Lana gave Hau a blue and white fishing rod. "I recommend using Dive Balls for any Pokemon you catch with that. Here."
"Wow, this is much more then I was expecting." Hau was so grateful for all of this.
"By the way, did you know I once reeled in a red Gyarados?"
"A shiny?!" Hau gasped with sparkling eyes of admiration.
"Yeah. Well, you certainly did a fine job today. I shall see you back to the Pokemon Center."
Once Lana led Hau back to the Pokemon Center, they entered where Ash and Misty were waiting for them.
"Hey guys!" He called to them.
"Hey Hau! I'm guessing things went well for you." Ash guessed.
"You guess correctly! Check this out!" Hau presented his friends with the Waterium Z crystal.
"Cool! I can't wait to get that for Brionne!"
"I'll be waiting then." Lana giggled. "After me comes Kiawe's trial. It takes place at Wela Volcano Part." Lana's face changed as she thought of something. "By the way, did you see any Sudowudo by the ranch?"
"No." Misty replied.
"Good. They tend to cause trouble so I give them a taste of my Waterium Z power. I wonder how they'll react to you two having it, if Ash wins his."
"I will win it, then I'll show every rock, ground and fire type what I'm made of!" Ash boasted.
"You need some Waterium Z just to cool that ego of yours." Misty retorted. Everyone laughed. Even Ash as he awkwardly chuckled.
A/N: Short, but it was nice to write.
