I don't own A song of Fire and Ice.
Chapter 1
The years went in and come by quickly than anticipated. Daenys Velaryon the firstborn, and as some would later whisper, the only daughter of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and her husband Laenor Velaryon was an exceptionally intelligent child.
By her eighth month, she was able to say her first word, mother to Rhaenyra, and by her second name day, she had stopped using nappies and had been successfully weaned off the wet nurse's teat. By her fourth name day, she was capable of speaking the common tongue fluently and was just as capable in reading and writing.
Daenys did have attempted to give a dragon when she was no more than 2 years, but it was deformed and monstrous-looking that Laenor had no choice but to kill it. Her poor daughter screams and cries as her mother held her in her arms.
Rhaenyra knew that her daughter wished to have a dragon of her own, but feared she may never have one. Her little brothers have one, but never had Daenys spoke out of envy or hatred.
Despite every whisper, she is a genius, yet she lacks a dragon. Perhaps that is why she chose a sword to be her only weapon to fight equally on the ground.
Daenys grew fast, but she wanted to fight swords then being a lady. Perhaps as Rhaenyra had thought to herself, 'I should have gone on to name her Visenya instead.'
However, Daenys often said that she will be greater than the name Visenya Targaryen sister wife to Aegon the first.
The princess of Dragonstone believes it to be true. 'My daughter will be greater than Visenya Targaryen.'
Daenys would demand that Ser Harwin Strong train her.
Rhaenyra couldn't help, but see how he doted on her daughter and couldn't say no. He and Daenys would practice wooden swords and fight on the field.
She knew she had to separate those two if those whispers heard that she is his bastard daughter than her husband.
Rhaenyra knew how much it hurts her daughter to be separated from Ser Harwin, but she cannot allow those rumors to commence. Daenys was clever in that she secretly sends little notes and messages being passed with each other.
'Mighty risky and clever my dragoness is.'
Rhaenyra has already given birth to sons Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey. Daenys was always the favorite big sister they had, but no doubt that Lucerys whom she nicknamed Luke is her absolute favorite. Daenys looked at Targaryen very much, yet her brothers are contrast appearance. Her brothers had brown eyes and hair and pug noses, a complete contrast to their parents and older brother, causing many to whisper that their real father was Ser Harwin Strong, Princess Rhaenyra's sworn shield.
Few had the guts to say that in front of their sister were beaten black and blue. In some other cases, she let her sword do the talking for her.
The sources of rumors were from Alicent Hightower and her sons, Aegon and Aemond.
Rhaenyra knew that her daughter shared her mother's hatred for the greens. Especially when Daenys knew her mother is the rightful heir and that alone should demand respect for it is the will of the King himself.
Aegon and Rhaenyra never hide their dislike for each other. Aemond and Daenys on the other hand had no qualms for wanting to kill each other. Rhaenyra often fears if her daughter turns her back from Aemond he wouldn't hesitate to stab her if given a chance.
Aemond and Daenys relations and animosity towards each grew worse when her daughter managed to tame her deceased good sister, Leana dragon. He is no ordinary dragon.
It is Vhagar a bronze with greenish-blue highlights and bright green eyes. Rhaenyra smiled in the joy that her daughter tamed the most powerful dragon in the Seven kingdoms.
That truly made her day when that green bitch truly matches her envy.
Many whispers that Daenys is the next Visenya Targaryen. Aemond took his anger out her brothers when she wasn't looking. Daenys saw bruises as they made excuses that they were training or accidents, but she doesn't believe in their lies.
She demands the challenge against Aemond in honor of her brothers. They weren't how she convinced him to accept, but many said that Daenys even mock how Hightowers had loved to go high in reaching their throats like his mother did practice others before the king.
That infuriated Aemond so, he accepted.
The Blacks and the Greens cheered viciously for they wished to have the upper hand. Daenys showed cleverness and cunning when she fights her uncle with real swords. Aemond fight with upper strength, but Daenys had the upper hand as she kicked away his sword and made him kneel before her.
However, Daenys knew that he shall not go unpunished.
Unsheathing her father's dagger.
She cut away Aemond's eye as she wished to have that as her prize. They said she used her hand to ripe his eye out and gently held it in her hand.
She held it high to show everyone her uncle's unblemished eye.
The Blacks cheered more as Daenys is the one who never let one go unpunished. Yet the Greens were furious and appalled that she would take her uncle's eye despite that he yields and humiliated him to kneel before her.
Alicent Hightower demanded retribution, but Rhaenyra approved her daughter's method of defending her brothers and mother's honor of being called, Strong.
Viserys did not demand any retribution as Daenys fought for her mother's honor and brother's being legitimate children.
Daenys escaped with no punishment, in fact, many said that she was rewarded because her great uncle and stepfather Daemon Targaryen later took the girl on as his squire, which was odd as she became the first girl squire in history.
King Viserys decreed that any man who dared call his grandsons bastards would lose their tongue.
In the aftermath, Prince Aemond would say that losing an eye was a small price for gaining Vermithor while princess Daenys would say that Aemond was lucky he still had one eye.
Daenys was a dreamer as they said. She would gaze at the Narrow seas and stand there for hours. How would you say if she was hearing voices that she was destined for great things?
"Right!" Daemon Targaryen ordered as he swung his wooden sword at her. Daenys heard and went right.
"Right, left, right, right, left. And now you are dead." Daemon stated as she held the practice sword to Daenys throat while the girl glared at him angrily.
"Horseshit! You said left and went right." Many would-be appalled that a girl of her status hears her curse like a sailor, but Daemon paid no mind. Her objection made her glare at him while he couldn't help but chuckle.
"And now you are dead." He reminded her.
"Only because you lied." Daenys snapped at him.
"My tongue lied but my eyes held the truth. The eyes are the key to victory in a fight girl. Remember that." Daemon told him as Daenys nodded as she picked up the practice sword all the while looking into her eyes with determination, causing Daemon to smile.
In the beginning, he was sure this was meant to mock him since he married her mother without the King's approval and the girl's punishment for cutting her uncle Aemond eye out during the trial by combat.
Now, he seemed to take a liking to this brat. Perhaps, it was because she reminded him of her mother and grandmother, Aemma Arryn. Daenys would have made herself a fine Targaryen queen since she thinks highly differently than others.
Perhaps, she was made to have a fine match with a Targaryen yet. Daemon thought that if he had a son, he would make sure Daenys married him. He will make sure his blood is on the throne no matter what.
"In the name of the Warrior, I charge you to be brave." King Viserys Targaryen, the first of his name declared as he held the blade of his Valyrian steel sword Blackfyre on the shoulder of his kneeling granddaughter Daenys who was struggling to keep her face stoic. She was only fifteen years old, the youngest member of her family to ever be knighted and she knew that her mother was well-pleased.
And unlike most young nobles Daenys wasn't being knighted because of who her ancestors were, or because like many young nobles she begged her parents for it, but because of her actions. It certainly filled her with pride.
It was during the riot that nearly attacked her beloved aunt Helaena Targaryen. She was always closed to her since she was born. Helaena often said when she was a baby. Daenys would cry if Helaena would disappear from her sight and warmth. Daenys killed six men that were about to rape her aunt and stabbed them despite their begging for mercy.
"In the name of the Father, I charge you to be just." King Viserys continued with the ceremony. "In the name of the Mother I charge you to defend the young and innocent. In the name of the Maid, I charge you to protect all women. Now arise Sera Daenys Targaryen." Viserys declared as he removed the blade from her shoulder and he did so while the great hall exploded in cheers, with one half much more subdued than the others.
The Black openly cheered as Daenys had made herself known that she will fight for their cause. The greens politely applaud then stop for a bit.
The King raised his hand in silence.
"There is another word that I wished to say." King Viserys stealth his sword and said, "I was never made to be a fighter, but this sword, Blackfyre had been in our family for generations. Blackfyre is meant for either the king or his heir, and while my daughter is my heir, she does not require a blade, therefore it is only fitting that this sword should go to her own heir."
Daenys gapped, but corrected herself and said, "You honor me too greatly, your grace."
"Nonsense!" the King declared and placed the clothed sword unto his granddaughter. "I see that this sword was meant to be in your hands." He then ordered, "Arise Sera Daenys Velaryon."
She did as she was bided to do.
She took her sword. It was heavy but refused to let go for she wished not to shame herself and her mother. She turned to look at the court.
She smiled as this is the first step for her mother's path to the Iron Throne. And she will make sure that her mother gets to it.
Extras:
Margaery Tyrell POV
Women had to reach whatever grasp of power and ambition to thrive and fight for their own standing. Princess Daenys Velaryon was truly a woman to be admired.
Sometimes I wished that I was that Daenys Velaryon.
The first to become the Rogue Prince squire. The first to be a knight in her own right. The first who was not afraid to bring bloodshed to her enemies.
Grandmother said that Daenys was truly one of the true rulers of the Seven Kingdoms and that is why we as a woman had proven again and again. That we can fight not with swords, but with our wits and cunnings as Daenys had done in her time.
Eddard Stark POV:
A woman never tamed, but truly a formidable warrior. The North had never forgotten how Daenys would come to their rescue from Wildlings and pirates.
A woman who would seek help from the North more than the Southerners. The Starks had a feast and glorified her presence with feast and stories.
Daenys Velaryon was the one who brought the idea of the Fire and Ice Pact.
Tyrion Lannister POV
In many songs, they spoke about how beautiful she is. Or how witty, smart, or desires of her heart, yet they have often forgotten that she was the first Hand of the King for her brother in order to make peace in the Realms.
Clever that woman was. She would have been the second Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, but move the motion to crown her little brother as King.
Many see this as making her brother under her power and thumb, but I see a woman who truly loves her brother and rather have him rule in a new era of peace and not of war.
Daenys had helped the realm with the king until her death as her people and brother mourned for her.
The Queen of Hearts is what they sang about her.
