Here is the final part. From here, things will change in the MCU timeline.
Differences in this chapter: Dalla added to these scenes. Please note that some of what is said near the end of the Thor final battle scene is copied and pasted from A Spark for a Stark just because I already had it written there, but changed to fit this story. We also get to see the aftermath of everything for Dalla and see a side of Odin normally only Thor sees.
They made their way out of the castle. Once at the Bifrost, Loki let the Jotuns into Asgard. Dalla stood next to him, concealed by her brother so the Jotun could not see her. Neither wanted to be apart after the first part of the plan failed.
"Welcome to Asgard," Loki said.
Laufey smiled and they all walked into the city. Dalla felt nervous, but there were no other signs that she would back out. She would do this. Odin and Thor had abandoned her when she needed them and no one but Loki cared enough to see why she acted the way she did. He was her only real family.
When the giants got to where Odin and Frigga were, Loki had to hold his sister back. Frigga was her mother. A quiet love. Okay, so Dalla would claim Frigga as family, but Odin and Thor made her grief and her feel small, insignificant, and unwanted. She only wanted to make her own choices, to love her soldier even if he were dead, and know her family would be there when things were too hard or there was great need. Loki had given her all of that, Frigga as much as she could as the mother of three and a queen.
Seeing Frigga fight to protect Odin only to be knocked aside, she looked away. But it was too late to back out of the plan now, and she wouldn't want to. This would show everyone.
Laufey went to Odin, stood over him, opened his eye, and said, "It's said you can hear and see what transpires around you. I hope it's true, so that you may know your death came at the hand of Laufey."
He created an ice dagger and raised it high. It was then that Loki and Dalla rushed in. Loki used the king's spear to fire at the giant, Dalla adding her power to it. He was thrown from where he sat over Odin, injured.
"And your death came by the son of Odin," said Loki, Dalla looking on with a stone face. "Aided by the daughter of Odin."
Laufey gasped in pain and surprise. Loki then shot once more, destroying the Frost Giant for all time. Dalla and Loki turned to Figga as she rose from the ground.
"Loki, Dalla," she said, "you saved him!"
They hugged as Dalla said, "It was more Loki than I, Mother."
"You give yourself too little credit, sister," Loki replied before they pulled apart. "I swear to you, Mother, they will pay for what they have done today."
"And I swear to aid him so that this never happens again," Dalla added.
"Loki," boomed Thor's voice. "Dalla."
All three turned to the chamber doors and saw Thor come in, Frigga running to him as she exclaimed, "Thor!" She ran and hugged him, Loki and Dalla's faces hardening as shock took over. "I knew you'd return to us!"
"Why don't you tell her how you sent the Destroyer to kill our friends?" Thor asked, his siblings backing away from him. "To kill me?" For a split second, Dalla's eyes wavered but Thor noticed. "No, just Loki did that. Dalla loves Midgard, the home of the one she loved." She stared at him, tears and shock from his words forming. "I understand now, sister. We can end this."
He's right, sister, said Loki. You're only crime was not stopping me. Easily forgiven.
I helped with the Frost Giants, she reminded. I was with you at all times. Heimdall…
Only saw a guard with their king. I release you from any debt, perceived or otherwise. Even if we face each other on different sides of the battlefield, I know you would never betray me.
And I, you, but we went too far this time. The tears in her voice and one slowly tracked down her cheek. I will not easily forgive Thor, maybe never Odin, but you will always be my favorite brother. I should have equal punishment, Loki. This is just as much my doing as it is yours.
Thor looked at Loki, saying, "You used her grief to get her to work with you. I knew you had formed a bond, but knowing she would follow you anywhere because of her sense of loyalty, of even exchange. You knew she wished to go to Midgard, and promised it to her. In return, for what she perceived as a great gift, she would help you take the throne of Asgard!"
"What?" Frigga asked in shock.
"The Destroyer must have been enforcing Father's last command," said Loki, moving away from Dalla, who was rooted where she stood, knowing how much what his next words would to her. "Though, I cannot say Dalla is all innocent. She stood by and watched everything that happened. She is the criminal here."
Dalla's head jumped up. Loki saw she knew what he was doing, making it seem as if he were betraying her. With the tears and shock still seen, it led credence to what Loki said.
"You are a talented liar, brother," said Thor. "Always have been."
"It's good to have you back," Loki continued, Frigga pulling Dalla away from the fight. "Now, if you excuse me, I have to destroy Jotunheim."
Loki shot the spear at Thor, the bright light knocking him through the palace walls. Loki left in a flurry, Dalla covering her mother from any debris. When it was quiet, Dalla fell to the ground, crying.
"My daughter," said Frigga, "talk to me as you once did."
"I didn't stop any of it, Mother," Dalla confessed, not noticing Thor had returned to the room. "In some cases, I helped this cause. This is my fault too. I only wanted to be allowed to choose my own fate, to live out the rest of my days on Midgard."
"What would you have done there? Grieve? Battle?"
Dalla smiled, needing no time to answer. "Protect it. It was home to the man I love. Even after his death, I would protect his home from all dangers, internal or external."
"Your emotions run so deeply, as does your loyalty."
"I know I have much to answer for, mother. And I will accept it. I was just so… angry all the time. Now… I…"
"Something happened to cause you to remember that this man you love would not have wanted this."
Dalla nodded, followed by Thor clearing his throat and saying, "Sister, I know I have not been the best brother, let alone a twin to you. But help me now. I will speak to Father when he awakes on your behalf. You were in pain and made a mistake."
"People have been thrown into cells for a lot less, Thor," Dalla said. "But I'm the only one out of the two of us who can convince Loki to end this before it's too late."
"So, you will fight by my side?"
"It will take more than finding a woman to love to convince me to forgive you. But yes, I will stand by you."
"I will not ask for forgiveness, Dalla. But should I earn it, never again will I forget what my own arrogance cost me." He went to her, touching their foreheads together. "My twin, my sister." He moved back, noticing the small smile on his sister's face. "Now, let us be off."
He grabbed her hand and they flew to the Bifrost. Dalla was in shock of the frozen lightning when they landed. This was not part of the plan. Loki was spiraling without her, and now, all of Asgard was in danger. She drew Eldr from its sheath, the flames dancing along the blade.
"You can't stop it," Loki said, staring at his siblings. "The Bifrost will build until it rips Jotuneheim apart."
Thor and Dalla looked at each other before running to the icy root-like system. Both went to destroy it, but Loki blew them back. The twins stood up, though Dalla clutched her side in pain. Thor went to check on her but she waved him off.
"Why have you done this?" Thor asked.
"To prove to Father that I am a worthy son!" Loki growled. "When he wakes, I will have saved his life, I will have destroyed that race of monsters, and I will be the true heir to the throne!"
"You can't kill an entire race!"
"Why not? And what is this newfound love for the Frost Giants? You could have killed them all with your bare hands!"
"I've changed."
"So have I." He hit Thor in the face with the butt of his spear. "Now fight me." He hit again, this time sending Thor across the room. "I never wanted the throne! I only wanted to be your equal."
"I will not fight you, brother!" Thor could not do that to the man he had grown up with, the one who helped keep Dalla with them this long.
"I'm not your brother. I never was."
"But you are mine," said Dalla, standing next to Thor. "Blood doesn't matter. We love you, Loki. Please, stop this now."
"I will not until they see what they did to us!"
Thor said, "Loki, this is madness."
"Is it madness?" Tears formed as all the pain and hurt this so-called family had put him through crashed in on Loki. "Is it? Is it?" Anger grew in him. "Come on. What happened to you on Earth that turned you so soft? Don't tell me it was that woman." The look on Thor's face told him everything. "Oh! It was! Well, maybe, when we're finished here, I'll pay her a visit myself!"
Thor launched himself at Loki then. Dalla couldn't take more than a step. She removed her hand from her left side and saw it covered in blood. She felt her legs give out as weakness took over. She saw her brothers leave the Bifrost. She crawled out to them, a trail of blood behind her. She stopped a good twenty feet from the entrance, the sound of fighting and thunder behind her. She fought to stay conscious.
Then, she felt hands grab her and slide her next to Loki. He saw her roll, not even able to stop. He saw the sound on her side, knowing he had done that because she had been closer to him than Thor. She looked over and watched Loki try to lift Mjollnir with a yell.
"Look at you," Loki goated, "the Mighty Thor, with all your strength, and what good does it do you now, huh? Do you hear me, brother! There's nothing you can do!"
Thor called his hammer to him and smashed it into the rainbow bridge over and over. It began breaking. Loki sat up in shock.
"What are you doing?" Loki asked. "If you destroy the bridge, you will never see her again! Dalla will never get to live on Midgard like she wishes to!"
"Don't stop!" Dalla managed to say
Thor said under his breath, "Forgive me, Jane."
Loki lept to stop Thor, both yelling as they went to strike their blows. But Thor was quicker of the two. The bridge exploded, sending both men flying into the air. The Bifrost portal room fell over the edge of the waterfall as the brothers fell back towards certain doom.
Then, Odin appeared, no longer locked in in the Odinsleep. He caught Thor by the ankle, who held onto Loki's spear, saving his brother in the process. Dalla's pale face peered over the edge.
Loki was worried now. He hung over empty space. He didn't want to fall but he wanted to have Odin's approval.
"I could have done it, Father!" Loki called out. "I could have done it! For you! For us."
"No, Loki," Odin responded.
Loki knew it then. He'd never be accepted by his father. Never.
"Loki, no," Thor pleaded.
"Don't you dare!" Dalla called out weakly. "Please!"
But it fell on deft ears as Loki let go. There was no more reason. Thor screamed out in denial, reaching for his brother as Loki fell, tears filling his eyes and blurring his vision.
"No," Odin said softly, as this was not what he had wanted for his son.
Dalla was taken to the healing room. After a month, she went to the throne room and knelt before Odin.
"Dalla Odinsdottir," the king said, "you do not deny the charges against you of aiding Loki in his treachery nor of stopping it when you realized what was happening?"
"I do not," she said, her head downcast.
"Why? Why not save yourself as Loki clearly tried to do?"
She looked up. "I let my anger and grief take hold. And while it still grips me, I was reminded that just because we are heartbroken, we cannot stop protecting those in need."
"This from the mortal you claim to love?"
"I had forgotten in the time I spent locked away from the world, but yes, he taught this to me. I will take whatever punishment you give me. I sullied his memory by allowing this to happen willingly."
"You truly see the error of your ways and can guarantee that it will not happen again?"
"While I cannot say I will not fall victim to my own emotions, I will never repeat this incident. I strive only to protect the nine realms if you will allow me."
Odin looked at Frigga and Thor. "Very well. Both your mother and twin have spoken to me of their views. You will spend the next six months in the dungeons and another six on house arrest. Once I can see your loyalty is to the many and not the one or solely yourself, you will join Thor in protecting the nine realms."
"Thank you, Allfather."
"Now that my duty as king is done, is now time for my duty as your father."
Dalla stood as Odin made his way to her. "I am sorry that you were hurt by my words. I only wanted you to see what heartache comes with loving mortals."
"He has my heart, Father. I cannot change that any more than we can stop the wind."
"I see that now. If there is to be no other for you, then so be it. I am sorry that you must suffer like this because of what Loki has done."
"I am not."
"Why?"
"Because it reminded me of the man I love, of his values and my own. While I cannot say I agree with what we did, I am back on the right path. My soldier taught me this, and I swear to him, you, and our family behind you that I will work this next year to be the woman he knew me to be, the woman you and mother raised me to be."
"Then, despite the circumstances, enjoy this next year. It will be good to hear you laugh once more."
They hugged, tears in her eyes. Thor and Frigga came to hug her as well. Dalla gave them a small smile before following the guards to the dungeons.
