Song of Sorrow

Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime;

Say the word and I will follow you.

Share each day with me,

Each night, each morning.

All I Ask of You by Phantom of the Opera

Draco loved it when Astoria sang while she was in the bath. It was always a different tune, sometimes cheerful, sometimes sorrowful. Whichever the case, she never sang in English, it was either Greek, Cantonese, or Mandarin, but it was her voice that made it all so beautiful.

Draco discovered this little secret of hers early on in their marriage when she left the ensuite door open one evening. He was passing by to head for the walk-in closet to grab a jumper when her voice echoed out into the bedroom, and he took pause in hearing it for the first time in this way. He recognized it to be Greek but didn't know the words at the time, but he found himself sinking to the floor with his back against the wall next to the door to listen to her song.

He made an effort to do this every chance he could since. And as the time passed, he learned the words to the songs she sang. Draco felt like Astoria knew he listened to her while she was in the bath after so long of being together, he never told her, but she always left the door open as if knowing. She never brought it up, either, but it still felt like a little secret he kept of hers she didn't know about.

Tonight she was singing in Mandarin, and Draco had heard the song before but not often. But he knew what it meant, and this time he slowly met the floor with his knees and his forehead pressed against the door. He let out a quiet sob that was drowned out from her sorrowful voice.

He soon joined her quietly, singing in Mandarin that he had long since perfected for her and her family. The words are soft, his voice mixing with hers perfectly but he in a lower octave, giving the song an even more harrowing sound as the couple quietly mourned another loss in secret to each other and themselves.
