Cole, Jay, and Zane were on the Destiny's Bounty's deck to train their true potential. In another room, Kai found the green gi from Sensei Wu's room.
"Earth!" Cole attacked what appeared to be a Serpentine with his scythe.
Meanwhile, Kai has donned the gi. He was looking at himself in the mirror. "Whoo-hoo!"
"Lightning!" Jay shocked the Serpentine with his nunchucks.
Kai practiced fighting with the green ninja gi. "Whoo-hoo!"
Zane threw the shurikens in the air the caught them as he stared at the Serpentine. "Ice!" He froze the Serpentine with his shurikens. A light turned on revealing their enemy to be nothing but a training dummy.
"Good training. Your powers are getting stronger. But where's Kai?" Nya asked them. Zane sniffed the air and the others followed him since his nose was the strongest.
In another room, Kai was trying to prove that he was the Green Ninja. "Fire! Unlock Fire! Uh, Fire go! Shoot flames! Oh, come on. Everyone else can do it. So can you. Bring heat!" Kai did whatever he could to unlock his true potential but nothing worked. He even did one-arm push-ups once he stood up, he saw the others in the mirror. They were laughing at him while giving him a round of applause.
"Very nice. Perhaps if you tried the phrase "Fire dork," maybe it might work."
Kai turned around and removed his mask. "How long have you all been watching?"
"The Green Ninja suit. That's awesome!" Jay said impressed.
"Well, I was looking for some kind of clue from Sensei and then I found this," Kai told them, trying to explain why he was wearing the Green Ninja outfit.
"But you know only he who is foretold to face Lord Garmadon is destined to be the Green Ninja, and only he should wear the Green Ninja outfit. So Sensei would most likely be very..." Zane started but Kai said, "I know, I know." Kai walked to the window and looked outside. "But I thought if I just tried it on, it might help me see my True Potential." The others joined Kai at the window. "It's not fair that you guys have unlocked your cool powers and I still haven't. Besides, Sensei's gone and we don't know when he's coming back."
Zane's ears flickered softly. "Actually, Kai..."
A door opened and they could all hear, "Hello? I'm home."
"Sensei!" Everyone but Kai shouted with glee. Kai gasped and hid. 'I gotta change back into my gi fast!'
As Kai was changing, the others greeted Wu on deck. "Ah. It's so good to be home."
"So glad you're back," Zane told him with his tail flickering happily.
"Did you bring us anything?" Cole asked him.
"Oh, Sensei, have you missed a lot. Zane's a conquered his fear of humans, Nya's the mysterious Samurai, Cole's a dancer—
"Cole is a...what?"
"You've been gone a while. We'll catch you up later. But you should know, all of us except for Kai have discovered our True Potential," Zane told him.
"Have you now? Where is Kai?" Wu asked.
Kai, who was in his own gi, came just seconds after Wu asked. "Right here. So glad you're back safe." Kai saw Lord Garmadon from behind Wu and knew he had to protect him. "Aah! Sensei, behind you!" Kai goes to attack Garmadon while Zane dove to protect their Sensei Wu.
"Sensei!"
Kai nearly hit Garmadon with his sword but he dodged the attack and fell to the ground. "Ugh! He's got four arms."
Kai tried to fight Garmadon but Garmadon had gotten stronger since he and Kai last met. "So we meet again."
"He must've followed you, Sensei!"
"Kai, stop!" Kai looked at Wu shocked then back to Garmadon. "He is the reason I left. For so long as Pythor has Lloyd, he will be our guest."
"We have to live with this guy?" Cole asked shocked.
"But Sensei, he has four arms!" Zane said shocked. Zane may be a hybrid, sure he has a tail and cat ears and had seen bug hybrids with just as many or more arms than Garmadon, but Zane knew that Garmadon was human. Getting more arms was not possible.
"Uh, must I remind you ever since he turned evil, he's been trying to get our Golden Weapons..." Jay told them.
Angered by his students' words, Wu shouted, "Enough!"
They all backed off and said, "Yes, Sensei."
Garmadon stood up and told them, "This isn't about the weapons. It's about my son."
"From here on out, you will obey me and you will respect my brother."
"Yes, Sensei."
"Now to the bridge. We must put our attention to more pressing matters." Kai watched Garmadon and Wu leave but before Garmadon left he smirked evilly at Kai. 'I don't trust him. No matter what Sensei says.'
On the bridge, the Ninja catch up Wu and Garmadon from what has happened since Wu left. "So, where are we at with the four Fangblades?" Wu asked them.
"Oh, Pythor's managed to take the first two, but there's still two left," Jay told him.
"And we only need one in order to prevent him from unleashing the Great Devourer," Cole told them.
"Any luck finding their whereabouts?" Wu asked.
"Unfortunately, No, but we have hidden cameras around Ninjago to detect any suspicious activity," Zane told him.
"Good. If we find the Fangblade, we find Lloyd. Kai and Nya, prepare the deck and double-check the anchor. We need to be ready when we first get word of activity."
"Yes, Sensei," Kai and Nya said as they bowed to Wu in respect.
Before the siblings left, Kai looked at Garmadon. "I have my eye on you." As they were leaving, Kai kept his eye on Garmadon but he didn't pay attention to where the exit was he grunts when he hit his head, and Wu sighed at the sight but didn't say anything. Kai rubbed his head in pain until Nya grabbed him and pulled him away. "Now, tell me, what has happened since I was gone?"
"Haha. Okay, Sensei. I don't know where to start. It all started when Zane smelled something odd, and then we ran after him..." Jay's voice started to drown out as Kai and Nya reached the deck.
"But Nya, did you see he has four arms? Wherever Sensei found him, he's now made it possible so that he can possess all four weapons at once. I don't trust him. Not one bit," Kai told her.
"You have to remember, he's not just the Dark Lord, he's also Sensei's brother. Though he's pure evil, Sensei holds him close to his heart," Nya told him trying to calm him down as she unfolded the sail. She didn't trust Garmadon either but that doesn't mean they needed to be mean to him. After all, she understood Sensei's bond with an older brother.
"That's it."
Nya turned to him and asked confused, "What?"
"To unlock my power. Sensei said the heart is the key. Maybe if I stand up to Lord Garmadon, I'll find my True Potential and then everyone can see I'm the Green Ninja! Ha! Nya, you are a genius!" Kai jumped down to the lower deck
"I don't quite follow your logic..." Nya said still confused.
"No time to explain. I have to go train. If I'm gonna confront Garmadon soon," Kai pretended to fight a fake enemy then he did a backflip. "I gotta be at the top of my game."
"But Sensei said he's our guest."
"Garmadon might've fooled Sensei, but don't think for a second I'm not keeping my eye on him. Nya, the Lord of Darkness just became our roommate!"
The next few days with Garnadon as a roommate were... odd to say the least. One evening, as the Ninja were brushing their teeth. They watched Garmadon as he brushed his teeth with a dagger. His teeth were sparkling clean though.
At the dinner table, Kai was still keeping a close eye on Garmadon who winked at him. Garmadon then proceeded to eat his dinner. Kai and Cole stared at Garmadon as he ate some form of black grubs.
"What's he eating?" Cole asked Kai as he leaned over.
"Condensed evil. Supposed to be low in fat."
A grub flew off his plate towards Kai who brushed it away with his fork in disgust. 'Ugh. How much longer are we going to keep him here?'
Another evening, Jay, Nya, and Garmadon were watching a romance movie.
"Goodbye, my darling." Jay just stared at Nya just thinking about wanting to have a romance like that with her but he was confused when he saw Nya have a face of surprise and shock. Garmadon changed the channel multiple times and laughed each time he did.
In the middle of a storm, Kai was trying to pilot the Bounty. "Where's Garmadon?"
Kai sighed then said, "Sunbathing." Garmadon was outside on a towel passed out during the thunderstorm.
The ninja shared their bedroom with Garmadon, since Wu's was too small, the guest's bedroom was full, and he couldn't share a room with Nya. Garmadon disturbed them with the electricity coming from him. It bothered Zane the most since the electricity was loud and it caused the fur on his tail and ears to puff up.
"Do you have to do that? We're trying to sleep," Kai told him. Garmadon ignored him and only laughed as he played with the electricity. Kai groaned as he covered his head with a pillow. 'Ugh. why couldn't he have stayed in another room?!'
The next day, Cole and Zane were watching Garmadon play a video game. He was making his character die on purpose because he loved the chaos that was happening.
"He's not even playing the game right. He's just shooting and destroying things," Kai commented.
"I've noticed when he isn't so focused on trying to turn Ninjago into his own image, he's actually quite fascinating," Zane told him.
Cole then added, "Sure, four arms are freakish and most hybrids have four arms as well, but all in all, he doesn't seem that bad of a guy."
This made Kai upset. 'Garmadon is fooling everyone. How?! He can't act like this forever. I'll catch him in the act.' Kai thought to himself. "He might be pulling the wool over all your eyes, but not mine. He's up to something. And I'm gonna be ready for it."
One of the hidden cameras near the fire temple started to record the Serpentine. The camera caught an image of the map showing the locations of the four fang blades and Lloyd trapped in a cage.
Kai was on camera duty but he wasn't paying attention. He was too focused on beating Garmadon and becoming the Green Ninja. "Garmadon, get ready to get Kai'd! Fire!" He jumped across the room and pretended to fight against Garmadon. "Wham, bam, sorry to beat you, man!"
"This way. Come, come." Kai could hear Wu talking to someone. It was obvious that he wanted to have a private conversation with someone. Kai followed his voice. He went to the lower deck to the guest room that Lloyd stayed in. He saw Nya and Wu along with the Golden Weapons and the Green Ninja gi. "I have come to understand the mysterious Samurai is no longer a mystery."
"Oh yeah, you heard about that. I guess I picked up a thing or two," Nya told him.
"It was foolish of me to think that a girl could not be the destined Green Ninja."
Kai was peering through the window while standing on a step stool. He couldn't believe what he was seeing. "Nya's the Green Ninja?" Kai asked himself.
"When the four weapons are laid out before the destined one, the weapons will react, revealing the identity of the Green Ninja," Wu told Nya.
"But, Sensei..." Nya started but Wu told her, "Approach the weapons."
Before Kai could see what happened, he heard Garmadon ask, "What are you doing out here?"
"Whoa!" Kai fell off the stepstool and he stared at Garmadon in anger. Garmadon was in a blue robe that was modified for his four arms. "What are you doing out here?"
"Evil never sleeps," Garmadon told him as he approached him.
Kai stood up and told him, "Yeah, well, good never rests."
"Maybe we should take care of this right now."
"I was hoping you'd say that." The two started to push each other. However, before it could get any farther, Nya came out.
"Guys, guys, what are you doing out here?" She asked them.
"Perhaps you should be asking Mr. Snoopy Pants that question," Garmadon told her while gesturing to Kai.
Nya turned to Kai and asked in a slightly sad voice, "Kai, were you spying on me?"
"What? No way! I was, uh, keeping watch," Kai said trying to make an excuse. "So are you the Green Ninja?" He asked.
"What? Of course not," Nya said shocked why he would ask that.
"So the weapons didn't tell you. Ah, that means I still have a chance," Kai said with relief and excitement.
Wu came out of the room and told him, "Truth is, she never wanted to know."
"At first, all I wanted was to be like you, but after seeing how obsessed you've become and discovered what I could do on my own, I'm happy being a Samurai," Nya told him.
"So then who's the Green Ninja?" Kai asked.
"Perhaps we will never know."
Jay came in and said, "Kai, you were supposed to be on the bridge. The cameras spotted them."
Everyone ran to the bridge and Cole was already at the wheel. Nya looked at the monitor and told them, "Looks like Pythor is at the Temple of Fire."
"That means the Fangblade is there," Kai deduced.
"And Lloyd," Garmadon added.
"That's the same Fire Temple where Kai and Lord Garmadon first faced off," Jay told them.
"If my memory serves me correct, I'd say one of us cheated back when we last fought," Jay said with anger in his voice while he looked at Garmadon.
"And I remember someone needing their Sensei to save them," Garmadon said biting back at Kai.
Cole, having enough with their fighting, said, "Guys! For the sake of the Fangblade and Lloyd, can we please just get along?" Kai sighed but he wasn't ready to drop it. 'I still don't trust Garmadon and I never will.'
"Since the last time we've been there, it looks like the volcano has grown unstable. The place is a powder keg just waiting to blow up. This will be a highly combustible environment," Nya told them. 'I just hope Kai's pride doesn't get the best of him.'
"Oh, great. Just what I like. Fighting armed and deadly snakes in a highly combustible environment about to blow up!" Jay shouted sarcastically.
"We will do what we must," Wu said calmly.
Zane nodded in agreement. "Yes, Sensei. But where are our weapons?"
Kai then noticed that Garmadon was gone, "And why is Lord Garmadon not here?" Kai ran off to find Garmadon, knowing he went after the Golden weapons.
"Kai!" Wu shouted but Kai was already gone.
Kai slid down the stair railing to the lower deck, put his hood up, and entered a room to find Garmadon holding the Weapons.
Anger, Kai shouted, "I knew I couldn't trust you, you thief!"
Garmadon turned to Kai and told him, "Foolish child. I look forward to teaching you a lesson."
"This ends now!"
"Indeed!" Garmadon agreed.
"Ninja, go!" Kai did his spinjitzu and hit Garmadon but at the same time, Garmadon hit Kai knocking them both back causing Garmadon to drop the weapons. "I'm alive. I'm alive!" Kai said celebrating his small victory.
"You need to be taught a lesson!" The two began fighting and they seemed to be evenly matched. They both delivered a punch to each other but punched their fists together at the same time recoiling them in pain.
"Kai? You in here?" Kai heard Nya calling out for him and he locked the door to keep the others out. "What are you doing?!"
Pressed against the door, Kai answered, "Discovering my True Potential!"
Jay tried to open the door but it wouldn't open. "Unh! The door won't budge!"
"Kai thinks he'll unlock his power if he stands up to Lord Garmadon," Nya told the others.
"Why would he think that?" Zane asked her.
Making the cuckoo gesture, Nya told them, "Cause he thinks he's the Green Ninja!"
"Well, if we don't open this door soon, I think he's gonna be mincemeat. Stand back!" Cole activated his True Potential. "Earth." He broke the door down and they all run into the room but Kai had already defeated Garmadon.
"I defeated him. I did it! Are my eyes glowing? Did I unlock my powers? Is this my True Potential? Argh! Why isn't it working?"
"Because you cannot defeat someone who allowed himself to be defeated," Wu told him as he went to his brother to help him up.
"I wasn't going to hurt you, boy. I was only fetching your weapons."
"But you were trying to steal them!" Kai accused.
In a stoic voice, Wu told him, "I asked him to get them. Perhaps it is best you do not reach your True Potential, or else someone could get hurt."
"Way to go, hero," Cole told him.
"Oh. Poor thing. Let me help you," Nya said as she bent down to help Garmadon"
"Yes. Poor thing," Garmadon smiled evilly at Kai.
'They are all blind. Garmadon is evil and I'm going to reach my True Potential, no matter what anyone says. I am the Green Ninja, I'm sure of it.' Kai clenched his fists made a thud sound. Indicating that they were at their destination.
"Sounds like we've finally reached our destination."
Everyone got off the ship and observed their destination. "The Fire Temple."
On the bounty, Nya looked at the readings and told them as they were going into the temple, "The volcano seems to be on the verge of eruption, guys. All recent indicators tell me that this place is becoming increasingly fragile. Even the smallest rupture can make the whole thing go off."
"Then we must not use our weapons," Wu said. Everyone but Kai puts their weapons away.
"Kai," Nya said knowing her brother didn't but them away.
Kai sighed as he put his sword away. "Yeah, yeah. No Fire Sword. But only because I wouldn't want anything to prevent us from getting that Fangblade."
"Or my son," Garmadon added.
"There." Wu pointed with his walking stick. "The Serpentine must be inside the inner core. From here on out, we travel by shadows."
"It's the only way I know how." The group rushed down the tunnel to the base of the volcano, where the Serpentine were digging on a pillar.
There Serpentine had yet to notice them as they were all too focused on finding the Fangblade. "There's Lloyd," Jay pointed out. Lloyd looked sad since he was still trapped in the cage.
Garmadon gasped. "Son." Garmadon wanted to save his son but knew that it could do more harm than good.
One of the Hypnobrai hit something hard and Pythor noticed it immediately, "Huh? Out of my way, fool!" The Ninja were slowly and quietly making their way down. Pythor pulled out the Fangblade and held it up in history. "The third Fangblade is ours!" They cheered loudly. They crept closer to Pythor to get the Fangblade. Pythor got out of the hole he jumped in and observed the blade in greater detail but in the reflection of the blade, Pythor saw the Ninja sneaking up from behind. "Ninja? Attack!"
"Light as a leaf. Attack like there is no tomorrow," Wu ordered. The Serpentine tried to attack Wu but he used his cane to get some of them into the lava but they weren't too badly harmed, their butts were on fire so they fled in fear. Cole ran across the bridges and attacked the Serpentine with ease.
Jay attacked a Serpentine and when he was about to jump across to another rock, a faint fire came up and Jay used his powers to get rid of it. "Wind!" Jay released a gale of wind from his hand to disperse the fire and he jumped across and attacked the other Serpentine.
Zane punched two Serpentine behind him. "Ice!" He used his ice to make an ice bridge then he slid down it and attacked the approaching Serpentine with his feet and tail. Kai looked around and saw that he was surrounded by many Serpentine. He took his weapon out without hesitation and it lit itself on fire but this caused an immediate reaction with the volcano in the Fire Temple.
Kai was quickly defeating the Serpentine surrounding him than Zane noticed and shouted at him, "Kai, the weapon is compromising our safety."
Kai ignored Zane and told him, "I will do what I must."
Pythor shouted as and the other Serpentine were leaving, "Let's get out of here! But not before we leave them with a parting gift. Boys?" Three Constrictai dug holes in the volcano to make to start to collapse and with Kai causing it to react with his weapon, the volcano became too dangerous to stay in. Lava was spurting everywhere and rocks were starting to fall from the ceiling.
"They're making the volcano unstable," Zane told them.
"Any minute, this place is gonna blow. We have to get out of here," Jay concluded.
"Not without my son," Garmadon demanded. He refused to leave with Lloyd safe in his arms.
"Dad!" Garmadon jumped across to the rocks and attacked the Serpentine. They tried to fight back but were no match for Garmadon and his four arms.
Pythor, knowing that Garmadon would go after Lloyd and not them, said, "Argh, lose the boy!" They dropped the cage and Lloyd shouted in fear, "Dad!"
Lloyd landed near the bottom where the lava was starting to rise. "Lloyd!" Garmadon knew he had to stop Pythor from escaping with the Fangblade but Lloyd was in danger and the lava was getting closer and closer to him. Without another moment, Garnmadon flipped another Serpentine using their own weapon then jumped over another three to grab the pole holding his son's cage. He saved Lloyd just as the bottom of the cage was starting to melt.
"Dad." Garmadon threw to pole to the side as Lloyd jumped into his father's arms as they hugged. "Son."
Determined to still get his True Potential, Kai ran past Garmadon and Lloyd, "The Fangblade's mine!"
"Come back. It's too dangerous. The whole place is going to explode!" Cole shouted at the stubborn Kai. Jay and Wu were climbing the wall to get out of the volcano with Zane and Cole soon joining them.
"Then I better be quick!" Pythor was about to leave through the hole but Kai threw the Sword of Fire and knocked the Fangblade out of Pythor's grasp. The Fangblade and the Sword of Fire were stuck in the wall and Pythor roared in anger at Kai.
Kai was running up the stairs to get his sword and the Fangblade but Pythor was trying and failing to get the Fangblade back. Scales came out and told Pythor, "Hurry, we must leave here at once." Scares grabbed Pythor and pulled him through the hole just seconds before a rock blocked their hole.
Kai was still running to the Fangblade with the others watching him with bated breath and worry. "Leave it, Kai! It's not worth your life!" Jay shouted at him.
"Not without that Fangblade!" Kai shouted back at him. The lava was rising faster and faster but Lloyd was concerned for Kai's life.
"But what about Kai? Kai?" Lloyd shouted for Kai but the ground under him broke and started to fall down. (The ground under him breaks.)
"Lloyd!" They tried to save him using their hands, weapons, or in Zane's case his tail but it was too late.
"Dad!" Garmadon wanted to save Lloyd but the rock was floating away from them. Kai didn't hear anyone, he was trying to get the Fangblade out but Lloyd was shouting for his father's help. "Dad! I'm sinking!"
"It, unh, won't budge," Kai told them. Kai was able to get the Sword of Fire out but the Fangblade fell on a rock very close to the lava.
Wu noticed that the volcano was getting too dangerous for them to stay any longer. "We have to get out of here, or else none of us will get out of here." Kai jumped down to the Fangblade and tried to reach for it as the others were slowly backing out of the entrance to leave.
"But my son!" Garmadon shouted as Wu and Zane forced him out and just as they did, the entrance they came from was blocked off. They then left, and the entrance was blocked by rocks.
The Fangblack was slowly falling into the lava and Kai, frustrated, shouted, "Come on, why won't my power unlock?"
"Kai! Help me!" Kai turned to Lloyd who looked scared then back at the Fangblade. 'What... what am I doing? This isn't what being a ninja is about.' Making a decision, Kai jumped to Lloyd.
"Come on. Let's get out of here." Kai grabbed Lloyd and Lloyd said, "But the Fangblade."
"Forget it. This place is coming apart. Ninja, go!" Kai used his Spinjitzu to leap from ledge to ledge but they were soon surrounded by lava geysers. 'I don't deserve to be the Green Ninja, none of us do... unless we aren't supposed to be the Green Ninja. We're supposed to train him.'
Outside, Zane and Cole had their hands on Garmadon's arms and Zane had his tail wrapped around Garmadon to force him to leave. "Lloyd! Lloyd!" Everyone got on the Bounty safely however they watched in horror as the volcano exploded with Kai and Lloyd inside it.
"Kai," Nya said sadly.
"Son." Suddenly, a ball of fire shot out of the volcano. They feared it was a rock however it was oddly shaped. It's soon revealed to be Kai and Lloyd flying back to the Bounty.
"It's Kai! He's found his True Potential!" Jay said with relief in his voice. The two landed safely. Kai removed his mask and gave a look of understanding to Wu before his power diminished then he passed out. The Bounty soon left for the skies
In the bridge, everyone watches the Garmadons have a proper reunion.
"Dad? Is it really you?" Lloyd asked his father.
"It is, son," Garmadon told him with a smile on his face.
"Dad? Why do you have four arms?"
"He's gonna be okay." The Ninja cheered relieved to know that even after everything that happened, Lloyd was going to be okay.
Garmadon turned to Kai and told him, "Thank you, Kai."
Zane then asked him, "But how did you survive? How did you discover the key to unlocking your powers?"
"I knew when I had to make a choice. I wanted the Fangblade so badly, to prove I was good enough to become the Green Ninja. But then I figured it out. All of my training to become the best ninja wasn't in preparation to become the Green Ninja. It was... to protect him." Kai looked at Lloyd, who looked confused but then everyone, except Lloyd, caught on to what he was saying.
Confused, Lloyd asked, "What? What is everybody looking at me for?"
"That means..." Nya said with realization in her voice. She, Kai and, Cole brought the weapons in front of Lloyd, and they reacted by levitating and emitting green lightning.
"Lloyd is the Green Ninja," Wu said with a bit of shock in his voice but it didn't show much. "I had thought it would be one of you, but it was him the whole time. It all makes sense. Not only have you four been chosen to protect the Golden Weapons, but also to protect the Chosen One." The weapons fell to the ground after Wu came to Lloyd sad.
Garmadon frowned once he realized something important. "That means..."
"The battle lines have been drawn, brother. Sadly, our family has only become more divided. Brother versus brother, and now, son versus father." The group developed looks of sadness. Lloyd had looked up to his father all his life and now, he had to fight him with one of them being the victor.
Jay broke the silence by saying, "Hehe, this is heavy and all, but whatever happened to the Fangblade?!"
At the Temple, Pythor, Scales, and two Venomari were leaving the Temple when Pythor spotted the Fangblade flowing in the lava. He grabbed it with his Anacondrai Staff and it landed in the ground.
"Ah, it's so beautiful. Cool and clean it off, boys. Because we've only got one more to go." Using his Staff like a golf club, he hit it to the two Venomari and Pythor laughed evilly as two Venomari whimpered from touching the hot Fangblade.
