Lawd!
Chapter 13
Mary shook her head when she walked into the safe house only to find it empty. She ran through the house looking for a trace of something but she knew Sam would've left it untouched.
"Fuck!" She spat, slamming her hand on the table before pulling her out her phone and calling Sam. "Pick up, pick up!"
"Mary, where is she?" Dwight asked, walking into the room after she instructed him to stay in the car.
She let out a breath and shook her head. "I don't know… I can't get a hold of Sam either."
"You're not telling me something… what is actually going on?" He asked and she ran her hand over her face.
"Nothing I can't and won't handle… I just need to talk to Stacey." SHe replied looking up at her husband who by his expression wanted a better explanation. "I don't have time for this."
"Make time, why are you so antsy to talk to our daughter but not happy that our son managed to free her? Why did it go down the way it did and why in the hell was our home attacked? I don't ask a lot because I understand your job is… a lot but my children are in danger. Now talk." Dwight demanded and Mary knew she had no choice but to tell him everything.
"I… Stacey has information I need to put an end to all of this and get the Tres and the Fabray's sent far away for a very long time."
"Why in the hell would Stacey have information like that if she was kidnapped?"
Mary shifted nervously. "That's… that's a long story and I promise to explain but I need to find them before-"
"Before what!" Dwight asked, growing angier by the second. "Did you… did you set our daughter up to be taken?"
Mary let out a shaky breath and shook her head. "No… not ours."
Dwight took a minute to process what she said before realizing. "You-" He took a step back away from her. "You're the reason Mercedes… that's why you were so against Sam and her being together!"
"She was collateral! I needed the Jones' to help but they wouldn't and when I tried to Mia they moved her… so I went for the one easier to get and I knew Sam would protect her because I taught him how to do his job well but he just… he faltered and fell for her. That made her dangerous. Not just for Sam but for stacey and the whole operation was in jeopardy because she kept spreading her legs for him!" Mary blurted out.
"You put that poor girl at the mercy of killers for what reason? To solve a case? To pad your resume? Jesus! You put our own daughter… I can't be near you…"
"Dwight listen, this is a lot more complex than that! I needed a person on the inside and one of the members was interested in Stacey and I just figured… he wouldn't hurt her… but when she couldn't come back I needed someone else, someone innocent and alluring. She made herself known to them after she beat Justin's ass but Sam wasn't supposed to get to her as quickly as he did." She explained.
Dwight shook his head. "You have lost your fucking mind… you're playing puppeteer with other people's lives and for what!"
"BECAUSE SHE SHOULD'VE HELPED ME!" Mary shouted, taking several deep breaths. "Kennedy should've helped me when I asked… she refused to even take my calls and when I showed up to her doorstep she turned me away and told me to figure it out on my own so I did."
Dwight sighed. "Kennedy Jones… the woman you were blackmailing? You expected her to help you because of what?"
"She was my friend once upon a time… we were best friends and she-" Mary started before getting choked up. "She was willing to let my child suffer to protect her own… I know it sounds selfish and I know I did wrong but she wouldn't even look at me. I begged her to make one call but she wouldn't. It could've all been done, even after all that I still sent Sam to protect her daughter because I know any other agent would have failed."
"You… you really think that reasoning is sound enough to justify what you did? You burned bridges and expected someone to give you a favor? I'm going home without you… don't you dare come back before fixing all the shit you've done." He said, shaking his head before walking out, leaving her there.
Sam paced the floor taking in all the information he was just given, his mother, was the cause of all of this, pulling strings, to fuel her need for power. Putting not only Stacey and himself in danger, but Mercedes as well. He looked over to Mercedes who was sleeping in the bed. After they spoke to her parents, she told them she needed time to think about all they heard, but when she and Sam got to the room, she was so tired she just passed out.
Sam heard a knock and he sighed, going to the door and opening it. David stood there frowning.
"Why are you in my daughter's room?"
Sam rolled his eyes. "She's sleeping, so kindly come back later please."
"Is something wrong with her? You can tell me, was she shot? Stabbed? Something is off with her. I saw it when she came to the door. She looked off, sick even."
Sam looked back to the bed. "I noticed she's been tired, but no I made sure she wasn't hurt. Well she was hurt a few weeks ago but I am sure that healed."
"Hurt how?" David asked.
"When the sniper shot at us through the window, I protected her but some glass cut her thigh, I cleaned it and she was fine. It could be the fact that for the last six weeks she has been running for her life and this is the first time she is relaxed. Home does that to a person." Sam defended.
David looked at him before looking over at Mercedes and shaking his head. "It's not that… I know my daughter, she wouldn't sleep here not even if she was on her last days. That's my fault though… I was too hard on her." He said, sighing and shaking his head. "Figures she'd end up with an Evans."
"And what the hell is so wrong with me being an Evans. I know my mother is who she is but I have fallen for your daughter, she was a pain in my ass but dammit if she didn't reach a part of me that I thought was unreachable. And I will give my last breath to protect her."
David nodded. "Don't be so defensive… it wasn't an insult and I'm going to hold you to that because you may be a trained killer but you've never been up against a Jones… not truly and it's not something you should want to experience. I'll have Terese bring up some soup for Mercedes." He said before walking away.
Sam watched him leave, and shut the door looking towards Mercedes, if her father was right and she wouldn't sleep here unless something was wrong, then he needed to figure it out, he couldn't lose her.
Quinn picked up the vase on her desk and slammed it against the wall angrily. "You said you could find her Biff! Why the hell are you on my payroll if you can't do your fuckin' job!"
"Q, baby calm down. I have my people out looking for her and we're going to have something here real soon that will ensure the Evans clan is back here as well." Biff answered smoothly.
Quinn eyed him. "Calm down? Do you wanna get shot? I WANT RESULTS!"
Biff smirked, walking behind the chair she was sitting on and began rubbing her shoulder. "Yes, calm down. You're setting a horrible example by firing off like this. Your men are going to start thinking you're hormonal and not in the right headspace to run them." He explained. "That was how your mother managed to rule the way she did, she never showed when she was angry. She always remained calm."
Quinn huffed, taking a breath. "Fine! You are right. I am just tired of being surrounded by idiots." She closed her eyes as he rubbed her shoulders, letting the calmness fall over her. Her eyes popped open and she smiled widely. "I got it! It was so right in front of my face I don't know how I didn't see it before. Grab my phone."
Biff smiled. "You know, I technically don't work for you but I'll grab it just this once." He teased, grabbing her phone and handing it to her.
Quinn unlocked her phone and smiled as she started to type.
Q: Hey Stevie! Long time no see! How are you?! I heard you came home and didn't even bother looking me up.
S: Q! What are you up to now? We can grab a few drinks, I need a good hang!
Q: Considering your brother has left me high and dry, I would love to hang.
S: Sam's an idiot, just tell me where and I'll be there! I can tell you about my new girl.
Q: That is something we both can agree on, and I am glad that we can still be friends even if he is being a fool. Umm Meet me at Duces. Say 7pm?
S: I'll be there!
"Now to make him think I am just insecure about me and Sam." She said looking over to Biff.
Q: Hey Stevie…have you seen her? The girl he chose?
S: … yeah, I met her.
Q: He really loves this one doesn't he?
S: Yeah, he does but I don't think he intended for it to happen this fast.
Q: I always thought it would be me and him..but it's okay I don't want to bring you down, I will just see you tonight okay?
S: For what it's worth, I don't think he doesn't love you… he's just in love with her. I'll see you in a bit.
Biff looked at Quinn. "Okay so what did you just do?"
She smiled. "Get a few men down to deuces, the moment you see Stevie Evans grab him and bring him to me. Its time we end this, once and for all."
"How is kidnapping Stevie going to end this?"
"Sam will do anything for family, so I am going to make him an offer. We will send him a video of his brother being tied up. Sam will have three hours to give over Mercedes, for every hour he is late." She opened her drawer and pulled out her Rose Gold colored 9mm. "I am going to shoot one of Stevie's limbs."
Biff shook his head. "This is going to backfire… I'll do my part finding the girl but I want no parts of this hairbrained idea."
Quinn raised an eyebrow. "Did it seem like I was asking you to do this?" She pointed her gun at him. "You don't have a choice. Pick up Stevie, or die alongside Mercedes Jones."
Biff chuckled, nodding towards the door. "You're not in the position to make that type of demand or threat." He replied smugly. "You want this done, do it yourself."
Quinn smiled. "Really?" She sent a bullet flying past his ear, grazing him just enough to draw some blood. "That was a warning shot."
A gun went off behind her causing her to look and see that she in fact was alone. Biff wiped his ear, seeing the blood and shook his head. "Your parents will be billed for that. You may need to ask them who outranks who." He said moving closer and looking at her hard. "If you ever so much as point another gun at me, it'll be you that's missing limbs."
Quinn scowled. "I would love to see you try!"
Biff nodded to the men behind them, letting them know it was okay to leave. "I'd like to see your little organization thrive without the McIntosh bank helping to fund it."
Quinn looked at him confused. "What the hell are you talking about? My family doesn't need yours."
"Oh Quinn, did you really think you were able to fund all of this on your own? No your family has been taking money from McIntosh for years, your parents are broke." He smirked.
Quinn shook her head. "No, no they just bought a new compound! We have all this product going out… that's impossible!" She protested.
Biff moved closer to her. "You really don't know do you?"
"Y-you're lying!"
"Am I?" He laughed. "Quinn, your parents have been skimming off the top for years, between your father's many love children and your mother's many lovers, I am surprised you stayed afloat as long as you have."
"No, that's not…I can't…" She stepped back and shook her head.
"Oh are you realizing now all those signs you conveniently chose not to see? I mean why would your parents put you in charge if they were doing more than just living off of your hard earned work. Check the bank if you don't believe me."
Quinn eyed him and went to the computer checking all of the accounts and staring in disbelief. "This isn't…you knew all this time and you just didn't bother telling me?"
"We all have our secrets Quinny, now don't we?"
Quinn glared at him. "What secrets do I have huh?"
"One word. Beth." He spoke with a wicked grin on his face. "Didn't think I knew about her now did you?"
Quinn stood from the desk. "Who told you that name?"
"Another thing you should know about dear old dad, not only is he a lousy poker player, but he is a sloppy drunk. I know everything."
Quinn's hand shook. "E-everything?"
"Everything Quinn, how you seduced your Health Teacher Mr. Puckerman, how you got pregnant, at 16 bringing shame to your family and his, how your parents ripped you out of that small lowly town and brought you here, until you gave birth and gave your daughter away."
"I didn't give her away!" Quinn yelled.
"No, you just didn't stop your parents from taking her. I know about that five grand a month you send to a Shelby Cocoran. So keep up with your threats Quinn, and I will not only stop funding your little operation, but I will ruin you."
Biff turned to walk to the door but stopped. "Like I said, I will help you get the girl, call it a good will gesture, but when it comes to Stevie Evans, you are on your own Princess." He blew her a kiss as he walked out the room, and Quinn picked up her keyboard, throwing it against the wall as she went off in search of her parents.
Russell Fabray sat in his study playing online poker when Quinn barged into his office. "How could you!"
Russell looked up for a moment then back down to his screen. "Why the temper tantrum Quinn, aren't you on the verge of having everything you ever wanted?"
"We're broke?" She said, staring at him.
Russell looked up and frowned. "What no! Who told you that!"
"Biff!"
Russell's eyes widened and then he shrugged. "Oh, well then yeah we are broke. But before you go all crazy on me, this deal should bring us back to our former glory. Now if you will excuse me."
"How many, father."
"How many what dear?" He asked not looking at her.
"How many kids do you have! Am I really your only child or is that a lie too."
Russell sighed standing. "Well since you aren't going to let this go lets just get this out in the open. Those that i know of there are at least 5."
"Are you serious?"
"As a heart attack. Look your mother is great, but five seconds after we got married she barely let me touch her, it wasn't until your grandparents made her get preganant to get her inheritance did we even have an active sex life, though I did get a paternity test, you never can be too sure." He said waving off his comment.
"I can't believe this! Do I- have I met them? Oh my God are they any of the people you have introduced me too?" She yelled.
"Well see, that's a complicated matter."
"Then uncomplicate it!"
"You've met three of them. An older sister and two younger siblings…twins actually." He said sitting on the edge fo the desk.
Quinn's eyes widened. "Mason and Madison are your kids?"
"Yes, your half brother and sister."
"This is not happening." Quinn said, running her hands through her hair. "And the older woman?"
"Franny…"
Quinn froze and turned to him. "Franny…as in Franny Puckerman, Puck's wife? Are you telling me that I had sex with my sisters husband…"
"And had a child with him, now you see why we couldn't let that get out!"
"Did they know who I was?! Did you know at the time?! What the hell is wrong with you!" She said pacing the floor.
"No, they didn't know til it came out you and that Puckerman guy were sleeping together and when they found out, we asked if they wanted the baby but Franny was pregnant herself so we made other arrangements."
"You were gonna give them my baby!"
"Well they were both technically family."
"You are a sick bastard and you better be damn happy I don't have my gun!" She shook her head. "I am gonna go take care of this Evans problem and then when I get back I will take care of your problem." She said storming out of his office and pulling out her phone. It was time for Quinn to show everyone that she was indeed that bitch, starting, with Sam and Mercedes.
Mercedes awoke to a dark room, feeling Sam's arms wrapped around her. She didn't even realize she had fallen asleep, she was just so tired. Dealing with the Tres', finding out the truth was all so much. Turning she smiled seeing Sam asleep. She leaned in and kissed him softly. She didn't care if her dad didn't approve, she was going to fight to make things work with Sam. Stretching in the bed, she slowly untangled herself from Sam and stretched, feeling a bit dizzy as she stood. Sitting back on the bed she sighed. Maybe she was coming down with a cold or something.
Looking over to the bedside table she noticed at tray with a soup and a glass of water. She wondered who sent it up, when they sent it up. As her stomach began to grumble she held it. Grabbing the tray she decided to take it to the kitchen and grab something else to eat. As she headed to the kitchen she smiled seeing Mia sitting on the stool.
"Hey Mi." She said placing the tray down. "Why are you up so late?"
Mia looked at her little sister and smiled. "You… I remember how it was when you'd get sick. You would wake up in the middle of the night looking for a snack or water or want to watch a movie." She replied.
Mercedes smiled. "You remember that? I don't know why I am so sick. I was fine a few hours ago."
Her sister smirked. "Sam's handsome…" She said, taking a sip of her cocoa. "How long?"
Mercedes smiled. "He is…I really care about him." Mercedes looked over to her. "How long what?"
"How long have you two been sleeping together?" She clarified.
Mercedes grabbed herself a mug and the milk from the fridge. "Don't judge me…but we slept together like the day we met."
Mia snickered. "And how long ago was that?"
Mercedes grabbed the cocoa mix and stopped trying to think. "Wow it feels like a lifetime ago…but I think it's like six weeks or so. He's really sweet…I still can't believe this mess though." She said fixing her drink.
Mia nodded, watching her sister carefully. "Six weeks and you're feeling sick? You weren't hurt right?"
Mercedes stirred her cocoa and shook her head. "I mean I got cut like a few weeks back…" She blushed remembering her and Sam wrapped in each other's arms, then bullets flying everywhere. "My thigh, but it was fine…you don't think it's something regarding that do you?"
She shook her head, smiling. "I'm surprised mommy hasn't picked up on it but I guess she's just happy to see you, we all are… including daddy."
"Picked up on what? What am I missing here?" Mercedes sighed, running her hands through her hair. "Daddy hates me. He always has."
"Hey, don't say that. He doesn't hate you… he just misses his little girl. You two weren't always at each other's throats, you know? Also, you should consider taking a test… soon."
"He wants me to be you, but I can't be Mi, I love what I do, teaching, helping, and I love that I rely on myself and not his money. And I think that is why he hates me, because I wanted to be my own person." Mercedes sat back remembering the times that she was nothing more than Daddy's little girl. And the chilling moment that all changed. "Yeah well that was a long time ago."
Mia shook her head. "No, he doesn't. I have two kids by a man who is too afraid to ask me to marry him because of daddy. He's hard on you because you're just like him and it scares him. You are so strong and so smart, you literally go after the things you want and aren't aren't afraid to disappoint them."
"Me? Strong? I always thought you were the strong one. I just started to teach. And now I wonder if all this could have been avoided. I went through so much just to end up right back here, I needed their help."
"You needed your parents' help, there's nothing wrong with that… it's human. I know you feel like you like they hate you but they don't and it's going to come home every once in a while. I know my babies would love to see their auntie more often."
Mercedes took a sip of her drink. "I guess I shouldn't punish you all by staying away, I just… I always felt like a disappointment. The blacksheep. Even now, they brought you here to protect you, and left me out to be kidnapped, attacked…" She wiped her eyes, shaking it off. "And now I am being emotional, being home sucks."
Mia moved over and wrapped her arms around her sister. "Listen, you were never the blacksheep. You were always the brightest light to all of us but I think you finding out that daddy isn't Superman ruined you somehow. And it's not because you're home… you're pregnant."
"Yeah, realizing that he was human after all just, I dunno." Mercedes wiped her eyes and looked at her sister before bursting out laughing. "What in the hell are you smoking, I'm not pregnant." She put her drink down. "You have to have- I mean you have to…" She stared at her sister as her smile dropped. They had sex a lot and never wore a condom. "No…" she said barely above a whisper.
Mia smirked. "I had the same reaction, it'll get easier to swallow when you take your test."
Mercedes looked down and placed her hand on her stomach. If she was pregnant then Sam was going to be a dad…could she be a mom? Mercedes looked to the clock on the oven and then to her sister. "Wanna take a drive?"
Whew... a lot happened!
