In which the family that Harumi rescues debates whether it was too late to thank her.
Episode 10, Season 9
It was a dark night, but a bright one for many. The Colossus has been destroyed, and the forces of the evil Emperor Garmadon have been defeated. Peace has been restored once more, but the minds of this particular family are being wrought with regret. Harumi, the Quiet One and the right hand of Emperor Garmadon, went out of her way to save them at the cost of her life.
The mother sat sullenly on the curb, not far from their apartment, now the resting place of their savior.
"I could've thanked her when I could," she mused. Little did she know her son was listening.
"But Mom," said the boy, "we all thought we could thank her when we would see her again. It wasn't our fault."
She spoke as if she didn't hear him. "It's too late. . ."
As she sat there, her son called to her. "Look!" he said, pointing to a familiar figure. "It's the Green Ninja!"
Lloyd was running towards the ruins with Kai following. A searchlight glowed above them as Lloyd frantically dug through the rubble.
"We can save her!" they can faintly hear.
"It's useless, Lloyd." They heard their conversation dying down as Lloyd continued to remove each piece of rubble one by one.
A stern voice spoke to them. "I can agree with Kai."
The son didn't understand why his father would say that, especially with that tone, but he was glad it wasn't about anything else.
"She saved our lives!" snapped the mother. "Plus we didn't know."
"Yeah!" agreed their son.
"Now we know, and I don't think she deserves a tip."
"Honey," said the mother despondently. "What do you think she was doing? If she didn't intend to save us, she wouldn't have directed us to those stairs."
"She's right, Dada."
"You don't know what she did," scolded the father. "She was the one that made this happen in the first place!" he yelled, throwing his arms in the air and motioning them to the ruins, where Lloyd is still digging desperately for that sign of life.
"Honey. . ." she scolded him. She was sorry that her son had to see them argue so bitterly.
They stood there sullenly, only the sound of heavy breathing and the Green Ninja ranting broke the silence.
"You are right," declared their son. "I may not know what's going on, but if I went on that elevator, I -- I may not see ever you again. . ." he said, his eyes watering.
His mother, comforted by his words, bent down and hugged him, tears streaming down her face. "Oh, honey! I love you! I don't care about what happened today, I'm just glad we're alive, too!"
"I love you, too, Mama. You know, maybe we can help Lloyd so that we can say thank you to her."
She hated to destroy her son's optimism, but she was telling the truth. "I think it's too late now," she admitted with a sad smile. "Let's just hope and pray that we don't waste this privilege as a way to show our gratitude." In the background, Lloyd dropped to his knees in despair and Kai gave him comforting pats on the back. It appeared Lloyd has given up his search, and there was no hope for her.
"You're right," mumbled the father regretfully, glancing at the ninjas. "I'm sorry about yelling at you. It makes sense anyways."
He walked over to his wife and son and joined in their warm embrace. Harumi is indeed an evil person, but they're alive and well, and that's all that matters.
