Chapter 7: Argument, Tense And Team

-With Bruce And Others After 30 Minutes-

'Ready to go Bruce?' Shin asked as he finished putting his blades parts together.

'Yep,' Bruce nodded, stood up and gave Shin a high-five.

'Try to have fun too,' Frank smiled as they walked out. Shin had gotten a message from their classmates and they were watching their battles again. Bruce and Shin walked up the arena as Frank and Judy went to the audience seats.

'Bladers! Today's first match is between an old face Shin against the rookie Bruce! Are you ready?!'

'An old face? DJ needs to come up with better description,' Shin chuckled and glanced at Bruce who looked serious but happy at the same time. Shin couldn't help but smile too.

'Looks like they're going to enjoy this,' Judy smirked happily next to Frank.

'Somehow I think they won't remember that it's a tournament. Hopefully they won't… Oh,' Frank began.

'What?' Judy asked as followed Frank's gaze. She also spotted Susumu leaning against a pillar behind the last row.

'Looks like he wants to watch this too,' Judy noted Susumu's calm and emotionless expression with hands crossed in front of him. Judy turned back to the match as DJ counted down.

'3… 2… 1… and let it rip!' people shouted and two blades hit the dish. Light orange bey and dark grey bey hit against each other one after another but it was clear Shin was holding back a bit but Bruce asked Shin to be serious at the end.

'Come one dude! I have practiced. Be serious!' Bruce called out.

'Don't say I didn't warn you. Go!' Shin sent his bey forward and almost hit Bruce but his bey dodged.

'What… Looks like you have practiced on your own,' Shin was surprised.

'Of course. Here we go,' Bruce went on attack this time. Shin tried to dodge but Bruce predicted that and managed to hit Shin's bey with a sharp turn. Shin was amazed how much Bruce had learned without their knowledge but it was a good thing. This was going to be better match than it was thought and audience was encouraging them as well since a new comer was showing skills against basically a veteran.

-With Susumu-

Susumu narrowed his eyes as he watched the battle. Shin was holding back as usual after Bruce had asked Shin to stop, it got interesting, for a moment. Susumu knew Shin had a lot more hidden in his sleeves but Bruce did show a promise.

He glanced at Judy and Frank who were cheering them up along with the stadium. Near them sat Taro and their other friends and classmates. Match went on for a while but Shin won at the end, simply because his endurance was higher and he didn't have to use all his strength yet. People cheered as Bruce and Shin shook hands with happy smiles.

'Happy for that idiot, are you?' voice asked. Susumu glanced sideways and noticed James coming up to him with a wide smirk. Susumu ignored the brat and kept his posture and watched Shin and Bruce walking out of the stadium.

'Are you fucking deaf or something you jerk?' James growled. Susumu sighed behind his throat and turned to leave.

'Hey!' James called after him but Susumu had disappeared into staircase.

'What a jerk,' James growled and glanced at the stadium. He was battling Judy next and she had pissed him off too. But he had to be careful because if Bruce was able to surprise Shin, who knows how much Judy had improved.

-With Bruce And Shin-

They were walking towards the stairs they would use to go sit down on the audience to watch the next match as Judy and Frank were coming at the same time in the hallway.

'That was a good match,' Frank congratulated and patted Bruce on the arm.

'Still lost. I think I need to watch my mouth,' Bruce said and shrugged.

'You did good though. You were stronger than I thought,' Shin agreed, 'I just had more experience and…'

'Endurance,' voice stated. Everyone turned and saw Susumu walking to them.

'Exactly,' Shin nodded.

'You were watching too?' Bruce asked a bit puzzled but happy at the same time.

'We saw him,' Judy stated and headed towards the stadium, 'My turn. Hopefully, I can give out some surprises too.'

'Don't get fancy,' Susumu warned and Judy turned around.

Shin watched Susumu's expression and it showed annoyance,' James opened his mouth again, did he?'

'Hmph,' Susumu closed his eyes and turned his head away.

'Yep. It was James. Judy, James might try finish the battle quickly and show off,' Shin cleared out.

'How can you tell?' Judy asked frowning.

'First, you did pissed him off and second, James most likely saw Bruce's match and… or third, Susumu is annoyed and only one person can do that in here besides Bruce here,' Shin smirked.

'Me?' Bruce pointed at himself and Shin shook his head slightly laughing.

'Fine. Thanks for the tip,' Judy said and headed out.

'The winner of this match goes against Susumu. Come sit with us Susumu and see the results,' Shin suggested. Susumu followed them without a word and as they sat down Judy and James were ready to start their match.

'This is going to be interesting,' Bruce said excited but he was sitting down calmly.

Shin glanced at James and he guessed right. James wasn't fucking around and might win quickly if Judy wasn't careful. Shin gazed at Susumu who was sitting next to him with hands crossed like usual, and of course with a frown.

'James did say something to you, didn't he?' Shin questioned. Susumu didn't acknowledge Shin's question and kept his eyes at the stadium.

'Did he try to insult you again?' Shin's question caught others attention.

'What do you mean 'again'?' Frank asked.

'Oh. I did mention that James' ego… is a bit big and he's always been like that. He can't stand Susumu's approach towards the matches or his attitude in general,' Shin explained.

'So he just insults Susumu or something? What a moron,' Bruce growled, 'No matter what, that's not right.'

'I agree with you but as long as Susumu is fine, it's fine,' Shin answered.

'Why don't you do anything about it?' Bruce leaned forward to see Susumu better.

Susumu rolled his eyes and growled, 'Why should I? He's a moron.'

'Okay. Sorry,' Bruce stated quickly and turned back to the front. Judy and James had started the battle at the mean time they had talked and James was clearly trying to hit Judy out of the dish quickly. But Judy was cautious but smart at the same time. She was defending well and it annoyed James a lot.

'Looks like Judy has trained as well,' Shin nodded happily, but heard Susumu grunt.

'Or not?' Shin asked carefully. Frank and Bruce were listening too.

'Not enough,' Susumu answered and added right after, 'Look.'

Others turned and saw James win the match with his last attack. People cheered and James threw his hand up happily. Judy took his blade, bowed politely and left the dish.

'I wonder did James talk trash while fighting?' Shin pondered as they stood up and went to look for Judy to the hallway.

'Judy!' Bruce yelled out when they saw her coming up to them.

'You hold up very well against him,' Shin showed a thumbs up.

'I did manage with my other goal,' Judy said and others were puzzled.

Then Bruce snapped his fingers, 'To annoy James?'

'Exactly,' Judy smirked and everyone laughed, Susumu kept his poker face and frowned slightly.

'What are you people laughing about? Annoy me? I beat you a moment ago. This is not a game,' James came up and was annoyed after what he had heard. He was coming the same way as Judy to get to the waiting room he was using.

'Just like you said. I know my limits but wanted to annoy you little bit. You need to return to the earth,' Judy stated with stern voice.

'And that will happen soon, won't it?' Bruce kind of whispered loud enough to James to hear.

'You damn brat are really annoying me!' James shouted out and grabbed Bruce's arm.

'Don't be mad at me dude. We all know who's the best here,' Bruce reminded and tapped James' hand around his arm with his finger. James glanced at Susumu who was standing there with straight back and arms crossed like he owned the place. But it was his eyes that annoyed James the most, cold and empty, but full of anger at the same time and something else.

'Are you friend of his or something? I thought only Shin somewhat bothered with him in the past,' James let go of Bruce's arm and backed away a little.

'I don't know about him but I believe so,' Bruce answered without hesitation, 'Why else would he give us beyblading tips for example?'

James stared at Bruce with very puzzled look and couldn't believe what he had heard, 'Are you a fucking idiot or something? Why would you befriend him? He's a fucking bastard who doesn't care about others.'

'You can cut that out dude. I will be friends with the people who I want and don't believe your words for a moment. Besides, look into the mirror. It's not like you are nice either,' Bruce growled and pushed James back.

'You're really naive bastard. Have you seen how he fucking acts?' James yelled back. Frank and Judy backed away a little and weren't sure what to do in this situation. They hadn't seen Bruce like this, defending someone without fear. Shin was holding Bruce back instead but didn't say anything at the moment.

'It doesn't fucking matter! You can't judge someone just based on what you see!' Bruce argued. They went for like this for a while and behind them Susumu closed his eyes and tapped his fingers annoyed. He listened the argument again and this time Shin was involved too.

'Stop it you two already!' Shin grunted.

'James needs to apologize! He's a jerk!' Bruce argued back.

'And you're a moron trying to defend someone you don't actually know! It's not like you're friends!' James added.

'You guys are not making any sense! Stop it!' Shin tried to point out. It was clear Bruce got offended when James disrespected Susumu but their words didn't make sense anymore. Then Shin noticed Susumu who was glaring at them with big frown and even was gritting his teeth.

'Why do you insult Susumu like that?! You moron!' Bruce continued shouting while Shin held him back.

'Because he's a jerk who needs to know his place!' James shot back and with that Bruce pushed Shin off and went to grab James by his shirt and they were about to threw their fists but in second it was stopped. Susumu had grabbed both of their wrists and twisted them slightly to make them let go of each other. Shin, Frank and Judy stared at the scene with wide eyes as Susumu stood between two hot heads. Without a word he pushed two of them apart and let go.

'What?! Don't think your little friend can win against me?' James dashed forward. He hasn't been this pissed off before. Some brat was trying to tell him what to do. Bruce himself had calmed down a bit already and kept his eyes on Susumu as Susumu grabbed James' shoulder this time and pushed him against the wall with force.

'Who's the one trying to pick a fight right now?' Susumu growled.

'That brat grabbed me first!' James shouted angrily but didn't try attacking again.

'Get lost,' Susumu growled with narrowed eyes. James grunted and left without a word. As he was out of site Frank let out a breath he had been holding back.

'You need to keep your cool Bruce,' Shin sighed and rubbed his neck.

'I'm sorry but that jerk was just so annoying,' Bruce stated and stepped in front of Susumu, 'Why do you allow that? He was so disrespectful it was unbelievable.'

'Because I don't care and I don't need anyone to defend me,' Susumu said annoyed.

'You should care about it to make him stop! It's not right,' Bruce stated back. Without a word there was a punch. Bruce was sitting on his ass and rubbing his left cheek.

'Why did you fucking hit him?' Judy growled but Shin stopped her from stepping forward.

'Ouch… You have a hard fist,' Bruce mumbled and stared at Susumu who pulled his hand back next to him, like he hadn't just punched Bruce.

'I don't care what you think. Keep out of my way and don't bother me,' Susumu growled.

'Next match begins shortly! It's the current champion James versus former champion Susumu!' Just then announcement was heard and Bruce stood up with red cheek.

'I'm sorry dude that I care about it. I'll just have to do it myself then if James acts like a dick again,' Bruce crossed his arms. Shin was standing on the side with amused look. This was the first time he saw Susumu out of his normal element, instead of a poker face, he stared at Bruce with weird look. It was clearly Susumu didn't understand Bruce's attitude.

Susumu sighed growling, 'Fucking idiot.' With that he headed towards the stadium.

'Kick his butt!' Bruce yelled after him happily.

'Umm… Bruce? Do you realize what just happened?' Judy asked quickly as Bruce headed towards the stadium.

'What?' Bruce questioned as they sat down again on their seats.

'He just hit you and hard. That's not right. He needs to apologize,' Judy pointed out. She disliked Susumu more now. It was clear he was aggressive when things didn't go his way or his thoughts were questioned.

'Sure and it hurt but at least I got a reaction from him. It shows me that he has feelings in there,' Bruce said. Others glanced at each other and couldn't do anything but agree. Bruce had a good point and what Shin had told them, he didn't show many emotions so intensely at least.

'You might be the first one ever to get Susumu act like that. Normally, he just ignores it,' Shin finally said.

'I don't know if that's a good or bad thing,' Frank pondered himself. Situation was weird and tense back there.

'I remind you guys that his behaviour isn't acceptable either,' Judy sighed. They headed towards the audience seats and immediately saw James and Susumu standing on their places.

'The winner of this battle goes against Shin,' Frank reminded as the DJ got the audience excited. It was always exciting for two champions bey battle.

'I wonder how long it's going to take… Few seconds unless Susumu decide to toy around James a bit,' Shin wondered out loud as the battle was about to start. Bruce and others kept their eyes tightly on the stadium.

-With Susumu-

'I'm going to make you ear your crap jerk,' James put his blade into the launcher and readied himself. Susumu took his own blade out and raised his arms as well.

'3… 2… 1… and let it rip!' DJ called out and two players pulled the chords and sent the beyblades down. James went for the first attack aggressively but Susumu simply dodged easily while spinning on the centre of the stadium. James attacked again… and Susumu dodged.

'Running away already?!' James growled and his eyes narrowed even more when he saw Susumu keep his eyes closed and arms crossed.

'You think you can defeat me that easily?!' James called out and went for another attack but Susumu dodged again as he opened his eyes. Without a word Susumu brought his hand slowly forward and as James beyblade came closer again Susumu's blade span still. When James's blade hit Susumu's, in blink of the eye James's blade flew away from the stadium.

'Aa… And the winner is Susumu!' DJ yelled after recovering from so quick battle it took a moment to understand.

James stared at the scene with wide eyes as black blade returned to Susumu's hand.

'Don't get too cocky just because you won few rounds,' Susumu spoke loudly enough only James to hear him before he turned his back and left the stadium as James dropped on his knees.

-With Bruce And Others-

'That was fast! How does he do that?' Bruce asked still amazed.

'I suspect that he releases a big amount of power in a single moment. It's so fast that it happens in blink of an eye,' Frank threw few theories around.

'With practise you can also increase your strength and hold back at times. Susumu is holding back a lot and who knows how much,' Shin said as he stood up. The final match was about to begin.

'Is hoping you good luck bad in vain?' Bruce asked nervously.

'Not in vain and I'm going to try my best,' Shin said and left the seats as Frank took his bag and dug through it.

'What are you looking for?' Judy asked.

'A video camera. I think this match is going to be worth filming,' Frank said as he took out a black video camera.

'Did you film my battle? It could be useful to watch through,' Bruce asked.

'Sorry. I didn't but I can film the other ones,' Frank said as he pressed the record button. They waited for few minutes as both Shin and Susumu walked to the stadium from the same hallway.

'Now ladies and gentlemen! The final match is between Shin and Susumu!' DJ called out as Susumu and Shin got ready. As the countdown was down they watched the battle without blinking. Just like with James Susumu kept his hands crossed but kept his eyes open this time and allowed Shin hit his blade too. They went on for a while and Shin was clearly pulling his tricks out. Bruce realized how much outmatched he was from before. Shin had gone easy on him at the end.

Susumu didn't end the battle fast but after a while he raised his arm again up few inches and Shin's next attack send him flying instead too. Shin caught his blade as it flew threw him with a smile.

'And the final winner is Susumu!' DJ shouted and people cheered. Bruce stood up and cheered too along with others. People stopped cheering as Mr. Dickenson stepped into the ring.

'Mr. Dickenson?' Shin asked as man walked up to them.

'That was awesome battle. I wanted to ask you kids something before you leave home,' Dickenson asked with a smile.

'What… Don't tell me…' Shin's eyes widened and he did smile slightly.

'Yes. I did mention there is going to be a world tournament again and I was wondering would you two be the two members of the official BBA beyblading team?' Dickenson asked with wide smile.

'I… Of course,' Shin nodded and bowed slightly quickly.

'What do you think? You're the current champion here,' Dickenson turned to Susumu who just watched him with narrowed eyes while keeping his hands on his side. Susumu sighed closing his eyes and crossed his arms.

'That's settled then,' Dickenson smiled and Shin looked confused. Was that a yes from Susumu?

'May I suggest someone as the third blader?' Shin asked and Dickenson nodded.

'I was thinking of Bruce and even Judy should do it too. Their skills have increased a lot in a short time,' Shin asked.

Dickenson didn't have to think for long, 'I was actually thinking the same after seeing their battles.' Dickenson turned around and took out a microphone.

'As the chairman of BBA I have an announcement to make. For this moment forward the blader for the official BBA beyblading team has been decided and these bladers will go compete in the world beyblading tournament this year. The first member and the team captain is Susumu Hiwatari. Next member is Shin Kon, third member Bruce Granger and fourth member Judy Tate,' Dickenson spoke.

'What?! Are you serious?!' Bruce called out from his seat as light was cast upon him and Judy who also looked shocked.

'That's awesome!' Bruce cheered for a second before calming himself down.

'How? I didn't even my match?' Judy asked loudly.

'Many might think the same but this was my decision after seeing your all of your matches. You had the right attitude and will go against a strong opponent without backing away,' Dickenson answered and people cheered. Bruce ran to the edge of the audience and jumped over the edge and managed to drop down safely.

'Shin! Susumu!' Bruce called out as he ran up to them, 'We are going to be a team! A real team!'

'Don't get too excited though. We have a lot work to do now,' Shin reminded and Bruce nodded.

'I know. I need to train harder before we have to leave. It's not much time but I'm sure we can train together and keep our blades sharp,' Bruce said and took his blade out.

'Wise of Bruce. Training is always good,' Dickenson said as DJ was ending the tournament and Judy and Frank were walking up to them.

'Could Frank joins us? He has fixed my blade few times,' Bruce asked.

Dickenson nodded again, 'He can. Be ready to leave in two weeks. The first part of the tournament is held in China.'

'That's a short time. Practise is needs to be good and detailed,' Frank calculated, 'We must know that there are strong opponents abroad.'

'You're right there. We might as well start right away,' Judy agreed, 'Do you have trainers free Mr. Dickenson?'

'There is if you want to train at the BBA but if you ask me you have someone who can help you as well,' Dickenson answered. Judy and others turned to Shin who pointed towards Susumu with a smirk. While Susumu himself was narrowing his eyes and didn't look pleased.

'You want me to train them?' Susumu spoke up the first time in Dickenson presence.

'That way you four get to know each other and learn to work together. At the same time they learn beyblading skills and improve if you help them. You have the most knowledge. I know Shin has helped them a lot and with you your team can get stronger,' Dickenson explained shortly.

'Dickenson has a point man,' Shin added and Susumu brought his hand up and rubbed his own forehead.

'Fine. If I must,' Susumu sighed annoyed and Dickenson smiled ignoring Susumu's tone.

'Great. Do rest for the day and start tomorrow if you want. I'll be seeing you later,' Dickenson said before leaving.

'Let's meet up at my place then. We have a big yard and would fit there nicely,' Bruce suggested.

'Fine with me. Let's meet up 12 tomorrow then at first. It should be enough for tomorrow,' Shin checked the time for a second.

'Works for me. I can count on you to help Shin?' Judy asked.

'I'm sure Susumu will help too in his own way. Do you know where Bruce lives?' Shin turned to Susumu.

Before he could answer Bruce gave him a small paper, 'Here is my address. Don't be late.' Susumu glanced at the address before walking away without a word.

'You think he will come?' Frank asked.

'Yes. Susumu doesn't break the promises he makes. Since Dickenson asked him to help us train, he will most likely come. Maybe late but will come,' Shin nodded as they walked away from the stadium as well and met up with their classmates. They were cheering them up and congratulating them.

'It was awesome. Looks like we won't be seeing you after school as much,' Mathew asked.

'Pretty much. We have some training to do at my place,' Bruce replied as others threw them questions. After talking for a moment more Mathew, Sara, Dennis were the first once to leave.

'I'm going to cheer you on tv then,' Yoshie smiled. She had blue hair with a beautiful smile and Bruce could only smile back. Then he saw another girl behind Yoshie with long dual hair, grey on the front part and behind her back and brown eyes. It was Katherine.

'I will do that too,' Katherine bowed slightly and followed Yoshie outside.

'Looks like we got our first fans in a way. Let's go home,' Judy joked as they left the building as well. Tomorrow was going to be their first day as a team and first practice.

Hope you liked it :) Bruce might not be like Hero in this story (reason been that I didn't even recall Hero when I planned this story and it's sequel XD and I feel bad about it. Reason might that I like the first season the most and have watched the third season once entirely long time ago.)

I hope you still enjoy this version of the characters when they were children. :) Who knows where this story ends up and what's going to happen. Anything is possible :)
