Mackenzie had been home for a week resting her back. She had another week to go. Sam didn't think it was possible but his dislike for Alex just piled on more and more. Even though she was hurt Alex never lifted a finger to help her. It disgusted Sam every time he saw it happen. Sam had just gotten back to the apartment after skating. He saw Mackenzie still moving gingerly carrying a laundry basket.
"Mac, what are you doing?" He asked.
"Going to the laundry mat." "Ow!"
"You need to be resting."
"I have to go."
"No you don't." "Where's Alex?"
"Napping."
"I'll go."
"You don't have."
"I am." "Let me have the basket." She gave it to him.
"The first one is already in the car." "Here's the keys." She put them in the basket.
"I'll be back." "Please sit down and rest."
"I will."
Sam came back two hours later. Mackenzie was laying on the couch.
"I'm back." He said.
"Thanks."
"You're welcome."
"I have to get dinner started."
"I'll do it." "It's pork chops tonight right?"
"Yes." "I'll peel the potatoes."
They went into the kitchen. She started peeling the potatoes while he seasoned the pork chops.
"Has Alex ever cooked for you?" Sam asked.
"He doesn't know how."
"When's the last time he did something nice for you?"
"He does nice things for me all the time."
"When?"
"We're usually alone."
"I'm home." Alex said as he came through the front door. "I have a present for you baby." Alex came into the kitchen holding a teddy bear. "I thought this would cheer you up."
"Aw, thank you." They kissed.
"You're welcome."
They'd just got done eating. Mackenzie stood up.
"I'm gonna go take a bath." "I'll do the dishes when I get out." She went to the bathroom, shut the door and turned on the water.
Sam got up and started doing the dishes.
"You don't like me do you?" Alex asked. Sam didn't say anything. "That's alright, I don't like you either." "The only reason I'm letting you stay here is for Mackenzie." "I know you have a crush on her." "It must suck for you to see her with me." "She'd never be interested in you." "She'd rather go to bed with a real man." "Not someone so poor, he can't even afford a place to live." He went into the living room.
"Fuck you." Sam muttered under his breath.
Twenty minutes later Mackenzie came into the living room. Sam was sitting in the kitchen.
"I already took care of the dishes baby." Alex said.
"Thank you honey."
"You're welcome." They kissed. Sam rolled his eyes.
