Mackenzie had been back for about a month. She was having a blast. However she and Sam still hadn't spoken to each other. They'd seen each other but said nothing. She, Sam and two others had autograph signs followed by Q 's together. It was time for the Q 's portion. Mackenzie was sitting at the front of the table and Sam was at the end. A teenage girl stepped to a microphone.

"This question is for Piper and Darby." She said. "Can you please get back together?"

Mackenzie and Sam looked at each other and smiled.

"Darby and I had our time together and it will always hold a special place in my heart, but it's over."

"She couldn't have said it better." Sam said. "Piper will always be a special person to me." "As she said our time as a couple is over."

The next night Mackenzie was hanging out in Britt's room.

"So, what's up with you and Sam?" Britt asked.

"Nothing, you know we don't even talk anymore."

"Right." "Why don't you talk anymore?"

"It would be nice to be friends with him again, I can't do that."

"Why?"

"I don't want to fall back into old patterns."

"Like loving him?"

"It didn't work out last time." "I lost my best friend because of it." "I'm not going down that road again."

Feeling Sam's touch again made Mackenzie so happy.

"Oh yes, oh Sam." She moaned.

Mackenzie woke up and sat up in bed. She'd been having those dreams about Sam since she'd been back.

"Damn it Mackenzie." She scolded herself. "Stop having those dreams." "I don't want to hurt Sam again, it's over."
