Mackenzie's doctor's appointment was next week. She hoped her condition had improved. It was early in the morning. Sam had just brought Mackenzie her breakfast.
"Can you stay in here with me?" She asked. "I'm bored."
He sat next to her on the edge of the bed. "Just one more week."
"Hopefully."
"I'm sure you're better." "You've been doing everything the doctor said." "If you're not though, I'll extend my work leave."
"If I'm not I'm hiring a private nurse." "I don't want you miss anymore work." "Oh."
"What?"
"She's kicking me."
"Maybe she's mad because we're talking about me leaving."
"Maybe." "In addition to hopefully, finally getting off bedrest, I can't believe I'll be my sixth month next week."
"I know." "She'll be here before we know it."
"Yeah, but not quick enough."
"Once everything's settled with you and her I need to start looking for a place." "I want one as close to you guys as possible."
"That might be difficult." "My closest neighbor is a half hour away." "I just hope she never asks how she was conceived." "I can picture the awkwardness now." "Well honey, mommy and daddy made you in the back seat of a van, while other people were sleeping."
Sam smiled. "Yeah, it sounds bad."
"I'm gonna have my hands full with her." "She'll probably be a daredevil."
"I wonder which one of us she'll get that from." He said jokingly.
She laughed. "I have no idea."
Later that night Mackenzie was in the tub. Sam always carried her to and from to limit her movement. She stood up and wrapped herself it a towel.
"I'm ready." She called. Sam came in. He picked her up like a bride and sat her on the edge of the bed where her clothes were next to her. After she got dressed Sam came back in to help her adjust her pillows. He was leaning over her.
"Comfortable?"
"Yeah." "Sam, thank you for everything you've done." "I couldn't have gotten through these last few weeks without you." She leaned up and kissed him. He kissed her back. It started intensifying. He broke it. "What?"
"I can't do this."
"The baby and I will be fine."
"No." He stood up. "I can't do it because I love you, but according to you, you don't love me."
"Sam, stay, come on."
"Do you want me to stay because you love me?" "Or because you're horny?"
"Because I love you." She thought.
She didn't say anything.
"Yeah that's what I thought." He left the room.
